Warhammer 40,000

Imperium at War

Rate this book
A fantastic collection of action packed stories from the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

Three novellas of war and bloodshed in the Dark Imperium, where mankind stands on the brink of annihilation…

On the once-glorious shrine world of Chevreuse, the stalemate between Faithful and Defiler is broken when the Adeptus Astartes take to the field, and the Fulminators walk the Storm. Deep in the alien forests of Kallash, Mordian lives are fed to the meatgrinder of war to blunt the advance of a vast greenskin horde, until one hastily built medicae post is all that stands against the tide. And across the gulf of the void, the soulless Necrons pursue their inscrutable agendas, one that will see Nemesor Zahndrekh and Vargard Obyron test their bond, searching for what lurks in the darkness and what has become of those known only as ‘the Severed’…

Brilliant stories from all three authors thoroughly enjoyed each addition and take on the characters and settings.

The Fulminators Story was a nice spilt dynamic where we got to see a variety of characters on both side of the conflict and holy vistas whilst staying grounded in a chaotic warzone.

The second novella/ story focuses on a young Mordian Guardsmen on a hostile world facing grim odds and even greater pressures from those above and around him where every hour brings more challenges and difficulty.

Finally my favourite of the three sees the lesser seen Necrons where a bewildered Nemesor and his Vargar (bodyguard / companion) are tasked with containing a threat to the wider necron empire however an old 'friend' poses new challenges and considerations for the Vargar as he struggles to maintain his silence and character and cool when his relationship with his Nemesor is put to the test.

Overall a solid set of non linked stories which could easily set themselves up for their own series given the depth and breadth of the W40k universe 4.9/5 (Fulminators took a bit of run up before it got going)

Great compilation of three short stories set in the modern time of the warhammer series, and gives insight into space marine, guardsman, and the necrons! May need a general knowledge to fully understand, but the stories can be enjoyed on their own!

A book consisting of three very good stories. Each one, better than the one before it. All very interesting and enjoyable!

Finally finished it. Loved the first two stories, but that Necron story was a slog. Just couldn't get into it. Like I'm going to read a warhammer fantasy book because I don't want to read 40k for a bit bad.
