Roxie Walker has been married to Fletcher for over twenty years. They live in a beautiful house on Sunflower Street, have a cute pug named Glenda and enjoy a comfortable lifestyle. However, Roxie has a feeling that something isn't quite right…
Fletcher works hard and likes to relax on his days off, whether that's playing a round of golf, watching a football match on TV, or pottering around in the garden. Recently, though, he's finding it hard to switch off and he's concerned that Roxie seems to be drifting away from him. He comes up with a plan to try to make things better, but the secrecy required to carry it out creates its own problems.
As summer descends upon Sunflower Street, with warmer days spent at the recently refurbished lido and lighter evenings whiled away, surrounded by roses and honeysuckle in their lovely garden, matters come to a head. It's time for the truth to be revealed, and for grievances — both old and new — to be aired.
Will summer on Sunflower Street bring Roxie and Fletcher closer together or will it tear them apart?
Rachel Griffiths is an author, wife, mother, Earl Grey tea drinker, gin enthusiast, dog walker and fan of the afternoon nap. She loves to read, write and spend time with her family.
Summer Days on Sunflower Street by Rachel Griffiths is a good follow on from Spring Shoots on Sunflower Street the first book in her Sunflower Street series which I reviewed last month.
Having read the first book I found it easy to get into the story as I already knew the four main characters, Lila Edwards and boyfriend Ethan and Roxie Walker and her husband Fletcher.
Whilst the first book focused on Ethan and Roxie, this time the focus is on Roxie and Fletcher and their life after twenty years of marriage including the ups and downs and misunderstandings!
I really enjoyed the storyline and it was an easy read too. Having read the first book, meeting the characters again was like meeting old friends, although I see in this book Roxie is not so confident as she came across last time. A past tragedy has left her with uncertainties.
The plot flows well and I love the descriptions of the village and life on Sunflower Street. The ups and downs kept my interest throughout to the very end. There were plenty of lovely, happy moments but also some sadness within too, so a good mix.
Summer Days on Sunflower Street is a really good summery read which I would highly recommend, though I would suggest reading Spring Shoots on Sunflower Street first. I now look forward to reading more from author Rachel Griffiths.
Another superb read from the pen (keyboard?) of a favourite author who is always guaranteed to leave me smiling.
Roxie and Fletcher are happily married and clearly adore each other. But with Fletcher working hard and Roxie looking after their home they don't seem as close as they once were. Both of them seem aware of this - if only they could share their worries . . .
Following on from the first book, this time round we focus on another home on Sunflower Street. These are wonderful stand-alone reads, yet connected through friendships and location. What a happy street name! It automatically makes you think that all residents must have a permanent grin on their faces and yet, like all of us, they have their ups, downs, and doubts. This author does a fantastic job of making her characters come alive on the page and before long I had clear images of everyone - even Glenda! Beautifully written with her trademark warmth and compassion, this is one I heartily recommend - just perfect to curl up - or stretch out - with. Another sparkling five star read and I can barely wait for more in this series.
My thanks to the author for my arc copy (I also have this one on pre-order); this is - as always - my honest, original, and unbiased review.
Couldn’t wait to read the second part in this series and didn’t disappoint at all. Full of love friendship and plenty about summer. It’s such an easy read which helps. Roxie and fletcher have been married for years and live on sunflower street but Roxie feels something isn’t right. Fletcher works hard and loves to relax on his days off however he’s been struggling to relax and switch off. He’s also worried Roxie is drifting away. He wants to make things better but in doing so will he cause problems. Will they get through the problems and be happy and will it bring them closer together or not.
After reading the first book, which I thoroughly enjoyed, I was glad this didn't disappoint. It flowed nicely on concentrating on others characters, whilst still maintaining characters from the first book. In these depressing times, it's great to read a feel good story about ordinary people and their lives.c Great to read, Thank you to the author.
I loved this book as i did the others and i felt like therr was so much emotion behind it that it made me feel what the characters felt. I loved roxie and fletcher and i feel as though they experienced a lot of misconceptions that a lot of couples may face. However glenda is my favourite character and i loved how they included her in the end of the book.
A fabulous short story from the Sunflower series of books , this time we meet Roxie and Fletcher who have been happily married for almost 25 years. This gentle story underlines the importance of friendships and keeping the love and affection alive during a long term relationship. Uplifting and thoughtful, I enjoyed reconnecting with this gorgeous village and the interesting characters that live there. Perfect sunshine filled story that was delightful and engaging to read 🌻☀️
This book is written so well. It captures the sort of life situations we’ve all been through. If you love happy endings, then this book is for you. Love the community spirit portrayed . I have always loved ‘good feel factor’ reads.
Wow, what an emotional ending - I'm wiping away tears as I'm writing this. Brilliant book, brilliant characters and I'm off to read the next one and download more books by this amazing author.
What a lovely book! I was great to read Roxie and Fletcher’s story. Drama, laughter and tears, and such a wonderful ending. Just a short story, but it seemed the perfect length for all that happened and didn’t feel rushed at all. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
Cute and cozy. Though Roxie’s secret at the end comes out of left field and is a little too big to be forgiven in a moment (at least, it would be for me).
More about Sunflower Street with Roxy taking centre stage. A little anxiety for the characters to work through in the second book. Again well narrated and an enjoyable romantic interlude.
This book did not disappoint.. lovely end to the story and I’m loving how Rachel writes these books touching on real life issues and events that can effect us all, it makes these cute n cosy books more relatable.. now straight onto the 3rd ..
