First book doesn't really cover anything. If there's a review chapter at the start of the second it was a waste of time.

Against Princples

During the first 40%, I'm getting tired of a typical story of a teenage girl finding out she has superpowers, and becoming embroiled in a good against evil conflict. Suddenly the story shifts as if a different writer took over. The conflicts become more like Medici subterfuge our heroine becomes more introspective about the necessity of war, conflict and killing. She had principles she used to stand for which necessity made her violate. The whole of society is divided into classes and groups upon which bias is imposed. There are those that have one superpower, and they're placed at one level of society while a different superpower is placed at a different level of society. Miscegenation is punished with death. There are the outsiders of society that live in tribes, and they have their own different noble social grouping.

This series is based upon some dystopian world that exists without much explanation. The city is in the former United States, apparently in the heartland. There are low mountains and forests, a small, but productive stream, but no big bodies of water. The city has a 100 story tower, and several more high risers of a much less height. The city arms its police force with high power energy weapons which clearly outclass anything else available. How they come by these weapons is unknown since the city seems to run on a preindustrial economy except for their self driving automobiles. Usual transportation for the hoi polloi is a conveyor belt through town that one cues up to and grabs a pole as it comes by. Further these weapons seem to be routinely discarded but ever available. Somehow this society works in its structured fashion supporting several thousand citizens in apparent reasonable comfort with the elite definitely living in style in their commune style residences. There are the unproductive who live in squalor, and have a short lifespan usually dying by hunger if not killed for their possessions. More likely they are gathered and indoctrinated as a part of a zombie police force.

There's an underground series of tunnels which seem to be related to a subway, but don't seen regard to any city I'm familiar with. The residents of this city speak a version of English that has a very, very strong flavor of British. Many words I know, but they are just not used colloquially. For example, remit.

Into this paradise enters an outside force that has the intent of destroying everything. In order to combat this outside force, the interior combatants must enter a very fragile truce. Again, compromises are made to justify expediency.

The author's attempt to bring philosophical concepts into his writing is interesting, but it seems to be overshadowed by the intensity of the story line he tells. It is an intense story of intrigue, danger, and reversals. Taken by itself, I'd consider the story to be too predictable. In context with the author's other intent, however, it's good. Keep up the good work.

I am not ashamed to admit that I love YA books.
This was bought on a whim , and it was a good investment.

The set of ten is lengthy and tbh a bit repetitive, although I will say I got it at a set and had I got them individually it may have been.
I found the book something was long winded and the MFC Brie waffled a lot, going over the same things, I’m not sure if it’s because I’m (49) and the MFC is 18. I felt her counterpart who was male did waffle as much and it felt like a stereotypical idea.

However pages turn and characters must die, especially if they are in battle, it made me sob! Always a good indicator for me as to how much I invested in the story.

I love the fact there is a breakaway trilogy and another dip into the Enhanced world.

It’s worth a read, but maybe not all in one sitting 📚

Very well written and lengthy

With my first introduction to the author being a rather lengthy box set, I'd have to say that I liked his story, which was full of action, emotion (both light and dark), set in, unfortunately, a possible future. Filled with memorable characters, the MC has a slow start to her powers but that allows more world building, and time to setup the emotional bonding that so many stories lack.

Now, being a box set, this was a Lengthy story, and is not what I'd consider a fast read, but read it I do recommend, as it mixes the best and worst of what the future could be.

Very novel series

Dystopia has been done several times and they all follow similarities in ways of opression and rebellion. Yet I truly did enjoy this series due to the introspection involved in how their are truly not really villains. Just people doing what they think is best, or according to their nature. The ending pained me but that just means that the books stuck with me and made me care deeply about the characters. As an aspiring author I strive to write stories that can engage with the reader such as this one. Look forward to reading more books in the expanded universe amazing job .

The premise of these books was great and there was great character development. However, I don't think these books were edited. There was so much repetition and useless thoughts by the heroine that I literally was skipping over page after page to get back to the story. This would have been a great series if it had been seriously tightened up. Could have easily cut out 5 whole books from this series if the useless and repetitive words were removed. The heroine was not always likeable. I found myself very irritated by her self-righteousness. Having said that I liked the story line and all the characters.

"Books" don't stand alone -a little drag, some repetition but grabs your attention!

Series would have been better as two books. It ends with emotional force that may motivate you to read addition series books. Breaking it into so many books adds some repetition and weariness of the primary character. The story is primarily told in her adolescent emotional mind engaged in constant conflict and misunderstandings as if this were a romance novel. The book has a lot of twists and is full of battles and other action that hold the reader's attention.

10 books in this series but I pounded through them in about a week and a half so good

I rated this five stars because the characters were believable well put together and the story had a good continuity and the author is definitely a gifted storyteller. Gripping at some points high action at some points emotional and detailed as well but not boring ever. A good conclusion to the end of the ten book series and I'm looking forward to continuing on other books with the same characters

Epic adventure

Thought provoking premise of separation between classes and oppression of the poor. Equal mix of despair, hope for the future, and a vision of equality. A vivid and graphic depiction of the horrors of war and the difficult decisions required to initiate change. Political manipulations, hidden agendas, and the propaganda to influence public perception are skillfully woven into an intense and emotionally charged story.

Absolute Brilliance. !!!!!

From beginning to end. Such brilliant management of characters involved in their war. But the evolution of Zander , Brie and the difficulties they face are truly magnificent. Life in a war between the cure. He deluge of war within and without ending with the peaceful setting of the inner core with enhanced an unenhanced sharing the city that Zancer protected and the Stalkers saved.

I have reviewed each book separately, so will just say that if you enjoy a fast-paced fantasy story with plenty of action, thoughts, feelings, philosophy and wisdom, this series is for you.

Great characters and plot with a great sense of place. A brilliant writing style, despite the typos.

Overall, a fabulous read, which I highly recommend.

I really enjoyed the entire series and felt the twists and turns that snapped over the plot and subplots! I quickly became invested in the characters and as I completed each boom, I could not wait to keep reading it. Thank you for such an enjoyable series.

Amazing!

A fantastic series... one of the best I've read... a completely different world so normal at times & yet so vicious, so much action, adventure, thrills, super powers, strong bonding, friendship & loyalty... enjoyed thoroughly though was really saddened to see Zander die... wish he had survived... the brother/sister relationship was so unique...

Great series ! Very well written, action packed !

I really enjoyed this series and recommend it to anyone that likes dystopian storylines. Brie starts as a normal teenager, and ends up as a mighty warrior! Her world is turned upside down and she finds out who she really is and goes through a ton of different situations and tons of constant danger. Well worth your time to read !

Great take on a genetically manipulated future.

I was thoroughly entrenched in this series. The characters are so well defined and brought to life by the author. Been a long time since a book made me feel the way this did, with love, tragedy, loss, discovery.
I recommend for anyone that enjoys a good post apocalyptic vision.

Another great story.

This was a really engrossing story in the enhanced world. I’m pretty sure that I read them out of order but it didn’t seem to matter much. I was disappointed to find out that after buying the “complete” series that there were actually 4 more books that I’m not going to buy or read.

Not worth the read

Even for fiction this book made no sense. A teenage girl with no experience in arguing becomes an overnight assassin and war leader?! And the attempt to toss in romance.....gag. Not to mention all the inconsistencies and probabilities even for a fiction story.

1 long book not 10

Good read, kept me interested. A couple slow areas but nothing that made me stop reading.
Only thing I could say was none of the books are standalone, so must be read in order and all the way thru...so actually just 1 good book!

This series started out well with a good plot but my oh my was it tedious. Each book could have been condensed and suggest editing was lacking. But hey who am I to criticise I’ve never written a book so well done for an interesting storyline.

Kicking off a great series..!

I really liked this series and I’d read a later one previously which was no problem... the detail and continuity is as good as I’ve seen... and the emotive finale was moving... great stuff. Thanks!

Great series

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this series. The characters are great and it builds very well. Some grammatical errors throughout but they don't detract from the overall enjoyment.
