New York has always been a dangerous city, even as far back as the 1930s. But zombie-esque creatures and ape-like men are big news even for the Big Apple! When a gorgeous dame narrowly escapes their rotting clutches, she sends the bronze-skinned superman Doc Savage on the investigation of his lifetime! Who knows where the trail of corpses will lead? Who knows what evil lurks behind this rash of oddness? Savage isn't sure, but all fingers point to... The Shadow!
I wanted my first review of 2021 to be a good one, so I thot a comic book would not be too demanding. But no. I got this off Internet Archive and it's a piece of garbage. Terrible art, just awful. Faces are downright ugly. Story is nothing either. Glad it was free.
More fun than I thought it would be. If you are a fan of either of these characters this is definitely worth checking out. The Shadow is doing Shadow things (being menacing, shooting and stabbing the hell out of people) and Doc Savage is doing Doc Savage things (mainly one-handed hand stands and whistling tunes. Yeah, I'm more of a Shadow guy).
On the down side the artwork isn't anything to write home about and the two main characters don't interact at all.
I don't think there's a single more hit-or-miss era for comic book art, as the nineties. This one's definitely a miss. The story was nothing to write home about either.
The first part of a Doc Savage Crossover in the Doc Savage series, their enemies are wrecking havoc on the good city of New York and when a damsel is in distress she gets saved by the friends of Doc Savage and she needs his help and thus Doc Savage goes investigating. There is a Shadow also chasing similar leads which brings him to a big airship where he confronts the main baddie which turns out to be a Nazi, and a fight starts.
Not a big fan of Doc Savage he is too boring for my taste, the Shadow on the other hand talk of a mysterious menace who rights bad situations but is less of nice operator about it. This is the first of two installments. Dark Horse has given the Shadow a run for its money.
With James Patterson updating the character "The Shadow" in 2021 for a series of books, possible movies I am happy to reread this older stuff.
