Jacob Knight has just discovered that a tenth of the world was hit with nuclear bombs, and the military needs his help to track down the metahuman terrorists. The problem is, he wants to keep Liz safe as well, something that won’t be possible if she comes along. But leaving her behind isn’t a simple task, because if they claim she died, then most of their team would have died too. Is Jake strong enough to leave behind some of the team? Some of his friends? Will his new comrades be enough to help him take down the enemy? And will he be able to make it back in time to resolve the crisis unfolding without his knowledge?
Prologue The person they were bringing was sitting on their knees in the middle, their hands tied directly to the floor with chains so thick that I was confident I wouldn’t be able to snap them with my strength. And that was saying something since I maxed out on bench at about six-hundred pounds. Granted, I could just slice through easily with my blood, but that wasn’t the point. They were some big ass chains. They looked like chains used to secure an anchor to a ship – something that you could lift a pick-up truck straight off the ground with. Could this person really be that strong? Even stronger than Trinity and me? Surely this guy wasn’t that dangerous? I mean, they didn’t exactly seem dangerous. They seemed… Female. “Umm, he is a she,” I said out loud.

This was a bit of a let down relative to the first book. A lot of the conflict seems forced and the Machiavellian nature of the military agency everyone works for is exhausting. We spent much of the time missing half the characters from the first book and the two that we stick with aren't my favorites. Furthermore, the author goes to a complicated OP place with our MC's powers that is okay in this installment but is likely to cause problems going forward. There seems to be an explosion of unexplained phenomena as well. Finally, I didn't really buy the plot/character twist that we run into at the end.
There's dialog where there should be narration and there's narration where there should be dialog. There are many missed opportunities for character and world building.
The main character is whiny and mopes around for most of the book. The entirety of first several chapters is the main character going on and on about his self loathing. Such a person would NEVER be put into a combat situation as there's no way to predict how that person would act. Instead of giving that character some tactical and strategic training, they throw him into yet another life or death mission. It's just dumb.
Not the author best work, it leaves a lot to be desired. The idea that should have pushed the plot gets replaced by the nonsense of the struggling relationships the author is trying to force on the reader. The lack of character development and plot progression was a major blow. The discardmen of charatcer that could have enriched the story is another factor against this work.
It's not quite as light hearted or "fluffy" as I'd like. At it's core it's actually quite dramatically well done.
I would rate it a 4 for the lack of warm fuzzies except it's too well written not to give it a 5.
I highly recomend the series to fans of super power fantasy but want a little more substance to it than some alternatives... Especially if you want a little suspense thriller thrown in.
There was a bit more excitement this time and it takes some interesting turns. It is unfortunate that we lose half the cast for most of volume though. Jake continues to be naive and emotional, as opposed to his future seemingly stoic persona. The story seems to be setting up for a harem, but unless we get a time-skip soon I suspect it will remain sexless.
This series drew me in fast. I can’t stop reading. I started on book one yesterday and am now finished with book 2. I assume if you’ve gotten this far you’ve probably already read book 1 but if not this series is definitely worth the read!
Jacob develops new powers and by accident nearly kills Trinity and lex. His relationship with Eva develops and so does, his relationship with new member Blaine
This second book builds from the first in a magnificently stressful way, with quite a few unexpected twists and turns. It again makes one question some of the very daunting realities that random abilities could present to the modern world and the characters feel very real within the confines of a situation that just keeps getting worse all around them.. cannot wait to read what happens next!
This book lured me in so bad that I ended up finishing it in a single sitting! I recommend you find a comfortable place to read. I can't wait for the next book to come out. The author really know how to build a truly worthwhile story!
This story evolves into something totally different perspective from what you expect. The experience is worth the wait, twists and turns keep your attention to the end of this book.
Superheroes vilified and controlled by the government. Rogue heroes trying to exist as criminals. End of the world scenarios. Toss in some teenage love angst and it's a fun chaotic world. Lots of options to work with here. Should be fun series!
I’m really liking the way this series is progressing, and I’m looking forward to the next book. The characters are developing and there is good world building going on.
The first book in this series is pretty good but I think this one is great. The author does a really good job of developing the main character and making you like the other minor characters. Really looking forward to the next entry.
A little shorter than I would have liked, but exciting. It would be nice if they had resolved the Sarah/Farah situation. Also, this new plot line might be a bit too much.
This is such a great read. It’s fun seeing how Jacob’s powered progress and the turn that they take and the ending just makes me anxious for the next book. Well done
