This is a very difficult book to rate, so I won't.
On one hand, it is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. The photography is gorgeous, the art is precious, and the general layout is so visually appealing and interesting. The graphics design team knocked this one out of the park, if you ask me. Plus, I had no idea anyone could come up with so many Pusheen-themed recipes, but there are a lot in here! There are even templates in the back of the book that you can copy and use for decorating your foods.
On the other hand, this cookbook will probably only appeal to THE most extreme Pusheen fans, or maybe people who want to throw a Pusheen-themed birthday party, shower, etc. A lot of the recipes are intricate and/or require use of many different shaped molds and baking tools, many of which the average person probably won't have on hand. Because of that, I can't say this is a cookbook I'd really recommend to the average consumer. That said, if you really love Pusheen and baking, I'm sure this would be the perfect combo for you!
Thank you so much to the publisher for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
A vôbec nie že divočiny, ale veľa klasík, len neklasicky dozdobených, nech sa to Pusheen pozdáva! ♥ No akože hrkálkové sušienky či slzičkový dezert morskej víly?
When this came out, I immediately ordered it. Everything in it looks super cute, but looks super complicated to make. Not only the techniques, no matter what you make you gotta make the Pusheen face with a toothpick, the tiniest piping bag or a tiny cake you make separately. So that drags it down for me, and I haven't made anything from it yet. I might update this if I do, maybe with a photo if it doesn't turn out like a nightmare. The recipes are very varied, with influences from different continents. The book is divided into cookies & sweets, desserts, pastries, cakes and breads & breakfast. In the back there's a baking glossary, some words are very basic, some explain more foreign ingredients. There's also templates you can photocopy to use, which again seems very complicated to bake with. So unless you are pretty good at baking (including doing tiny details), you might not really get any use out of this.
Update: I tried one of the easier recipes, for pancakes. It was hard work, but it actually didn't turn out so bad!
I received a copy from Gallery Books through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
If you you’re a Pusheen fan and you love to bake, than there’s a good chance you will be interested in this book because it is all Pusheen baked goods. Split up by the type of baked good, you’ll find everything from adorable cookies to cakes and breakfast items. As a long time fan of Pusheen, I was super excited about this book and it did not disappoint me in any way.
Each recipe has a picture of the adorable finished item, clear baking instructions, and photos that accompany the steps based on its difficulty level and ease of decoration. I like that there’s extra pictures to show the steps as needed because sometimes you need a visual. I think the instructions are clear enough that even unexperienced bakers can easily follow along. It’s a great book to experiment with as beginner bakers become more experienced because even the difficult recipes have easy and detailed instructions.
Because each finished item is absolutely adorable, I think that many of them are great treats for kids. It reminds me of when my mom would make food in fun shapes and cute, decorative baked goods as treats when I was growing up. Anyone who likes to bake that also has kids who are Pusheen fans are bound to enjoy making these as treats for their kids. Some of the recipes would actually be fun to make as a family, like the Pusheen marshmallows.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book and look forward to making several of the recipes. They look great, sound tasty, and I’m bound to have fun making them since I love baking. I highly recommend this cookbook for anyone who is a Pusheen fan.
Cute, with some interesting recipes, but definitely not for every skill level. There are ingredients and processes that require a moderate to highly skilled (amateur) baker. Not a kid's cookbook! The pictures are helpful, but the experience is too complex for a casual baker like me.
Almost every pastel-colored treat has a gorgeously staged photo to go along with it and the more difficult recipes have photographic instructions! Not to mention the inclusion of natural alternatives provided for the food coloring such as beets and matcha powders. The only thing that would have made this book better would have been vegan alternatives for the dairy and eggs.
My favorite recipe is the Pastel Pusheen Dango (Hanami dango) because for me it was one of the easiest to make and I just happen to really love dango. (I blame Itachi for this.)
All things considered, this is a pretty decent cookbook because of the super simple instructions and the abundance of visual directions and the recipes are still relevant and tasty even when I didn't go to all the extra trouble to form everything into chonky cat shapes.
I love this wholesome as heck adorable lil fat cat and her sisters and friends. So when I saw LET’S BAKE! A PUSHEEN COOKBOOK on Edelweiss, I had to request the digital review copy! Thanks to Gallery Books for granting the request!
So far I’ve tried the cream puffs and although they’re a little ugly-cute, I had a fun time making them! I’m totally a novice baker and used techniques I’ve never done before with a recipe I haven’t tried before, but the book made it so easy! Each step is clearly outlined and it adds context for why you’re supposed to do it. For example, when you add the flour to the liquids, you have to put the dough back on heat to reduce moisture! Never having made pastries, I wouldn’t have known that.
Yes, this book may be for a specific set of people, but I know the teens at my library would love this! And at every craft show I’ve done, younger kids always gravitate to my Pusheen art. I myself even just love looking at the images which are aesthetically pleasing and perfectly arranged. .
I will most likely fail at a lot of the recipes on the first try, yet I can’t wait to try again! I want to get the right baking tools and black food coloring so I can actually make the true Pusheen grey. There’s recipes for pizza, dango, eclairs, and many more I’d like to try.
This review is based on an ARC of Let's Bake which I received courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher. This cookbook would be perfect for any Pusheen fan. I could see it being utilized for birthday or other theme parties. I love how every recipe had beautiful photographs to accompany it. However, if you are not a huge Pusheen fan (which I'm not), it gets to be a little overwhelming. Many of the recipes were quite intricate and required things that many people would not have on hand. They also often required special molds or baking tools that may require additional purchase. I personally will not be trying any of these recipes. That being said, if you really love Pusheen and baking, this may be the perfect book for you!
I received a hardcover copy of this book free from winning a Goodreads book giveaway. Many thanks for the opportunity to read this book and share my thoughts.
When I first saw this book, I wanted it because I love Pusheen. I am a huge Pusheen fan, and in that aspect the book does not disappoint. All the photos of the recipes were gorgeous, the food literally looks too pretty to eat.
I didn't actually think I would wind up baking, or even baking things that are tasty and look like Pusheen. This book has a way of making you feel like even if your level of cooking experience is "Yay, I didn't burn the grilled cheese sandwich!" (like me), that you can make the easy level recipes and create some yummy desserts.
I appreciated that the recipes are clearly labeled with difficulty levels, as it helped me judge what I felt confident enough to try. I've managed to bake several of the easy recipes, and it's given me the confidence to try a few of the easy/medium difficulty. There's design templates in the back of the book, and it's pretty straightforward on how to use them. Even if you're not good at free hand drawing, you can still make cute desserts by following the design templates. (Can I tell you how happy it made me when a friend recognized Pusheen on my cookies?) I also learned a lot along the way ... like how you could make pastel Pusheens using either food coloring or natural food coloring like beets & purple sweet potato. There's a glossary in the back of the book to help explain unfamiliar terms.
If I had to pick one word to describe this book, it would be inspiring. Cute and adorable are also appropriate, but I chose inspiring because it made me feel like even though I'm not experienced at baking by hand (or even that much of a cook), that I could make some of these recipes and they could come out being pretty tasty and adorable. You don't need to be an experienced baker or artist - you can make cute and delicious Pusheen treats with just 5 ingredients and a decorating template.
My first attempt was Pastel Pusheen Cheesecake Cups (no bake!), which I skipped decorating and just enjoyed plain. Soon it will be October, and I look forward to Pusheen Pumpkin Pie. My favorite remains Pusheen Pizza, combining two things I really love.
Adorable! The recipes look quite difficult, and they aren’t really for young kids to make. Every item is shaped/decorated like Pusheen, except for some chocolate-covered bananas at the very end, that look like sloths. A good number of the recipes are Asian influenced—dango, jellies, sesame tarts, black sesame tea cakes, steamed cupcakes, steamed buns. 40 recipes in total.
Won this from Goodreads. It's so cute! All of the recipes are as cute as Pusheen. It has patterns in it so you can get the likeness of the cat in all of the treats. Hoping they come out as more of a nailed it than failed it.
Recipes this cute should be illegal! ^^ I'd really like to give some of these a try, too cute to eat! This collection of adorable recipes bring together two of my favorite things: Baking and Pusheen!
If I was rating it on how it looks, it would get 5 stars. Visually, it is so appealing, and each recipe is accompanied by many pictures showing the finished product as well as each step.
It I was rating it on the likelihood of me actually attempting any of these recipes, I would have to give it 1 star. As cute as the treats were, the decorating ability required is a bit too intricate for me. I might attempt one of two for a special theme such as a children's birthday party. Maybe. Realistically though, there are too many fiddly steps involved for me to actually use this book. It is like a coffee table book of cat-themed desserts-- beautiful but not really useful.
I won this in a Goodreads Giveaway. I am going to give it to my daughter-- she is an artist and may be more likely devote the time to making these recipes.
Let's Bake!: A Pusheen Cookbook is an adorable and well curated selection of baked goodies which feature Pusheen, the cute tabby cat of internet and media fame. Due out 30th June 2020 from Simon & Schuster on their Gallery Books imprint, it's 180 pages and available in hardcover and ebook formats.
This is such an appealing and well made cookbook. I've literally never met anyone who doesn't love Pusheen. It's an admittedly niche book, but every one of the recipes would make a wonderful starting point for a wide variety of inspiration (I stuck with the recipes as written and they all worked perfectly). The recipes are arranged thematically: cookies & sweets, desserts, pastries, cakes, and breads and breakfast and there are 40 different ones by my count.
The recipes all have an introduction header with yields and information. The ingredients are listed bullet style in a sidebar. Measurements are given in US standard with metric measures in parentheses (yay!). Special tools and ingredients are also listed, along with yields and cooking directions. The ingredients are all easily sourced at any moderately well stocked grocery store. There is no index, but the expanded table of contents is well formatted and recipes are easy to find. The book does include an abbreviated glossary.
The entire feel of the book is cute, breezy, and sweetly upbeat. The recipes are written simply and clearly and the graphics, including the photographs, are clear and easy to understand. All of the recipes have finished serving photos and many of them have step by step tutorial process photos as well.
I'm often a little bit *meh* about strictly niche cookbooks, but this one is so full of appealing, tasty, and well developed recipes, that I'm making a big exception. This is a valuable cookbook for desserts and small bites which will actually get a lot of use in my kitchen.
Five stars.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
This book is full of extremely adorable and aesthetic pictures with matching recipes and kitchen hacks so that YOU, the reader, can make the very same adorable pastry found on these pages. This book is very step by step with detailed pictures and clear instructions. However, the difficulty levels aren’t entirely accurate. For example, the cream puffs were described as medium but as someone with limited experience in baking, I found them rather difficult. I think that this cookbook might be aimed for experienced bakers, as it’s not beginner-friendly in baking. Although, there are some recipes in here that even beginners could do.
This book is rather adorable with a large amount of entirely aesthetic treats. I have respect for the entire team that put hard work into this book. Additionally, so many of the ideas found in this book are really creative yet familiar when it comes to American treats. I hope to one day make each of these one by one! Also, I hadn’t realized how much hard work it was to make each of these dishes look the way they do until I tried it myself. Respect!
I like to cook/bake and that's why I entered the giveaway. I honestly had no idea what a Pusheen was. I'm a sucker for a good cookbook.
The cookbook is beautiful and the photography is gorgeous. The recipes could be changed by omitting the colors/decorations and it would simplify them. Someone put a lot of effort into coming up with so many Pusheen-themed recipes! There are even templates in the back of the book that you can copy and use for decorating your foods.
On the other hand, this cookbook will probably only appeal to THE most extreme Pusheen fans. Someone like me will definitely pass this one one to a family that can use it. I can make the recipes but working from home - I have no reason or desire to decorate cat cookies/cakes.
Some of the ingredients are a little obscure but if you want to make a recipe - you can always substitute it or if you do buy it - then find another recipe and use it up. Don't let it go to waste sitting in your pantry.
Thank you to Goodreads and the publisher for the gifted copy of this cookbook.
This cookbook is absolutely adorable. If you love Pusheen, you’ll love just thumbing through the pages because the photos are cute and fun. It’s filled with tons of Pinterest-Y recipes and it would be the perfect gift for a cat lover. Everything looks just so much fun.
That said, many recipes are overly complicated just for the sake of being cute. I didn’t necessarily expect that. While not the cookbook for me in the end, it’s perfect for more creative bakers. I’m gifting it to my mom who is a way more ambitious baker than I am, and I know she’ll love trying everything in it and perfecting the decor style in here.
I’d recommend this to ambitious bakers who like to make cute tiny desserts and don’t mind spending a lot of time on their baking. I wouldn’t recommend it to beginning bakers or perfectionist bakers because it may be more stress than fun for you.
he treats in this cookbook are absolutely adorable, many featuring a recognizable Asian flavour. I'm not sure I would try any of them - except for the simplest (i.e. chocolate covered bananas), most involve a lot of effort for very few treats. There are templates provided in the back for Pusheen in a variety of sizes and a few poses..... and there is no denying how absolutely adorable the results are.
I do wonder about the 'difficulty level' assigned to some of the recipes; I have never heard an amateur baker refer to using fondant as anything less than hellish (that is enough to keep me from trying it), yet a couple of recipes using it are ranked 'medium to difficult'.
I know more than a few friends who would love to try some of these recipes, and many who would love eat them.
This book has a mixture of Pusheen themed recipes at all difficulty levels. The only basic knowledge you’d need to how to create your own template to use and apply for making food Pusheen shaped. You can get into further detail of making things more Pusheen if you have baking related skills in making stuff out of baked goods. The cookies tend to be the easiest to create compared to the other sections of the book like breads, cakes, etc. If you love Pusheen and want to get into baking, this is a fun book to pick up and try its recipes. I know I had fun recreating them.
Also, if you’re lazy and don’t feel like creating Pusheen templates, just use whatever you already have lying around the house. You don’t need to buy cookie cutters or anything if you already have the basic tools you need for baking.
I received a hardcover copy through a Goodreads Giveaway.
There are a lot of difficult level recipes in this book. These are probably going to take a lot of practice as I do not bake too often. I am really looking forward to trying the mint ice cream recipe, though! Difficulty ranges from easy - difficult and just about everything in between.
There are guiding pictures for most steps of each recipe. I have never heard of some of the ingredients until today, so it will definitely be an interesting journey with this book.
The finished products are extremely detailed oriented, but they look really cute.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a beautiful cookbook!
But the recipes look more complicated than expected. I think with some time I could pull off some of these recipes, but even the 'easy' section is a bit complex. That being said the results are beautiful! There are great pictures throughout the book of the finished product from pudding to pastries and pictures showing each step.
There's a variety of recipes and cute edible pusheens to look at!
This book is beautiful! A great gift for people that love Pusheen. It has so many different Pusheen themed recipes that you can't choose just one. It's a great guide for kids birthday party if you're interested in Pusheen. The recipes require a lot of different baking tolls, shaped molds, lots of decoration tolls and of course a lot of time to dedicate to each little dessert. I would probably get it for baby shower or girl's birthday party.
I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review
Let’s Bake!: A Pusheen Cookbook by Susanne Ng, Claire Belton is a cute cookbook. I’ve never heard of Pusheen but it’s a cute little cat. I like that they have Pusheen templates in the back of the book that you can use if you really want to make the perfect little cat. Some of the ideas look nice. Am I going to make any of these items I’m not sure yet? But the book did put a smile on my face.
I received a copy of this book in a Goodreads Giveaway so thank you.
This is the cutest little cookbook. I have a restricted diet, so I was sure I wouldn't be able to try anything, but there are a couple recipes I might try with my nieces when we can visit again. There were a few tips that looked like they could be useful, but it should be noted that if you want to use the recipes to make Pusheen delights as intended, there is some detail work to get the appearance correct that many home cooks will not want to attempt.
I won this is a goodreads giveaway. I'm not currently rating it because I haven't tried anything, but it looks like a 4 or 5 star book!
I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I have been a Pusheen fan for a long time. I love that crazy and sweet cat. This book is to mark the 10th Anniversary. It is broken up into a five sections. I love baking and I have read through the recipes. I would to be able to make them like in the pictures. They are little pieces of art. I have not tried all of them yet but I want too. I enjoyed the Pusheen Butter Cookies which is the first recipe in the book. My aunt loves butter cookies so I had to try this recipe.
***Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Publication date June 23, 2020.***
3 - 3.5 stars 😺😺😺
This book was really cute...it's Pusheen, how could it now be 😻? However, the recipes and projects included were WAY too advanced for someone like me. Overall, it was still enjoyable to see project options for someone that DOES have more skill. 😊
