As I walked out towards Eagle Cove, Skipping through a greening grove, I followed where the pathway led-- And spied a great big lake ahead.

From the prolific Jane Yolen comes On Eagle Cove , a sparkling new addition to the On Bird Hill & Beyond series. A young birder and her mother hike beside a lake and experience the majesty of an eagle aerial show. They spy a massive nest, high in a tree, and understand that the two eagles dancing across the sky are a mating pair. Soon, there will be chicks, and the girl and her mother return to the nest months later for a peek at the new little lives. On Eagle Cove reunites Jane Yolen with award-winning illustrator Elizabeth Dulemba for this quiet walk through nature that leads to an unexpected glimpse into one of life's miracles.

Not only a lovely picture book with beautiful illustrations and a lyrical rhyming text, it also includes information on bald eagles after the story. Published by the Cornell Lab.

A young girl and her mother are both avid bird watchers. Hiking beside a lake they watch a majestic aerial display by two eagles. They spy a massive nest, high in a tree, and realise that the eagles are a mating pair. They occasionally visit a cliff top that looks down upon the nest to watch the eggs, then chicks as they grow.
On Eagle Cove is a wonderful celebration of nature, bird life and the life cycle of the bald eagle. Yolen's tight verse and Dulemba's evocative and detailed illustrations are a great combination.

I like that the illustrations will make brown-skinned people, for example Mexican-Americans, see themselves in the wilderness in all seasons. Part of a 'set' that includes On Bird Hill, On Duck Pond, and on Gull Beach. Rhyming text is a bonus for those who like that sort of thing. I'm rounding up because some of the photos I saw in the back are completely unfamiliar (therefore interesting and enlightening) to me.

An interesting, non-fiction read about eagles and their habitat in the winter season. How the children watch as they build nests and come back in the spring to see the eggs hatched and fuzzy new eaglets struggling to fly and leave the nest. And the back matter is very interesting.

All the kids and I loved this one. The kids loved talking about how some of the things described in the book are things we’ve also observed in the two eagles that nest next to our house. Beautiful illustrations and simple story of observing nature.

A mother and daughter hike out to observe a pair of eagles, and later, their nestlings. Pretty, textured illustrations pair up with rhyming text to make a sweet nature book.
