Shifting Seasons #1

Summer Enchantment

Rate this book
A loner shifter meets a bubbly college student. One is sure being together is a mistake. The other is sure being together is the only option.

Dr. Emmett Sable has been struck by a supernatural force now twice in his life. Once in the Alaskan wilderness by an ancient artifact on a dig and now again in Hawaii by the spirited local beauty Kealani Mahelona.

After the last few grueling months of his PhD, Emmett is treating himself to a month of relaxation in Hawaii. He is taken by surprise after literally bumping into Kealani in a fishery where she is completing her zoology internship. He is immediately taken with this bubbly creature when she unexpectedly asks him to brunch.

Kea is not sure what to make of this Alaskan mystery man. He clearly has a secret he is not telling her, which only makes her want him more. She agrees to show him the local sights including surfing and volcanoes, but he has more to show her than she bargained for.

Attraction and confusion plague the pair as his time on the island dwindles. He wants her. She wants him. Both have reservations about the relationship and for good reason. The more their differences clash, the more doubt creeps in. Is the shifter life for someone who's merely curious? Maybe. Maybe not.

Will his secret destroy them or or will she destroy his secret?

ONE OUTSTANDING TREAT!!!
OMG! Sammie really knows how to spin a tale to maximize the most enjoyment.
Her take no prisoners attitude sets the stage for this tough and tumble, on point realistic bad boy that swirls so intense, bursting with emotions propelling this gripping tale to life spectacularly. Throw in some twists and turn and a few bumps and bruises as you watch the world light up. The personalities are well matched and brought together smoothly. The scenes are so graphically detailed it paints an incredible backdrop that feels so realistic it's like you're right there with them. Amazing job Sammie, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.

Enjoyed the interaction between Emmett and Kea. Beautiful descriptions of Hawaii and Alaska. Emmett still has to learn how to accept the changes that occurred in his life. Is Kea willing to give up all that’s familiar to be with Emmett?
I received a free copy of this book and this is my voluntary, honest review.

This seemed very real to me

This is one of the most realistic writing about relationships between shifters and humans I've read. The hero is magically transformed into a shifter as an adult. He deals with it by himself and learns how to cope with it. Then he meets a girl his polar bear recognizes as his mate and he agonized over telling her , afraid she will run away in fear. When he finally tells her, she embraces his second nature and starts researching the phenomena and looking for others. He struggles with this because he is used to hiding what he is and she is out asking g questions about it. He feels this is his life she is messing with and they have to work out those issues. I'm anxious to read the next book.

I appreciated how the author draws on ancient cultures for the world building background on the shifters. And I also liked the intensity of the characters’ emotions in the first half of this novel. Unfortunately, once Emmet revealed his truth to Kea, it felt like the author just wanted to rush to the end, rather than continuing to believably explore the characters’ wants, hopes, fears, doubts and dreams. If this had been properly balanced into two parts with the different settings and the themes actually engaged with instead of glossed over, it could have been an amazing read. Lastly, it felt quite unpolished. There were lots of things in terms of the language that could have been improved.

Decent story needs a bit of revision

Decent story, doesn't really align with the prequel, it's a totally different story really. There are some words used incorrectly which makes it hard to understand what's going on and there are a few grammatical errors that were easy enough to overlook. Overall it's an okay story. I will continue reading the series to see if she can change my mind and tie up loose ends. I almost stopped reading it but I like to finish what I start. I'm hoping that the rest of the series helps conclude the cliffhanger like ending to this book.

Interesting version of becoming a shifter.

An archeologist finds a necklace in the shape of a bear. What happens next is the interesting part.
He goes to Hawaii for a vacation and meets a young lady. This is their story of becoming mated.

Good story

I really can't leave a review because I started this book in October and completely forgot about it until a day ago. I was half way when I stopped in October. But I hate not finishing what I started! Sorry

Amazing!!! ❤

This author is new to me, but I look forward to reading more of her books!! Summer Enchantment gives the reader a different perspective on how shifters are created as opposed to being born a shifter!

Sammie Joyce has nailed it again. Can’t wait for the next book!!! Although I do hope it will be available on iBooks as I’m not seeing the preorder yet.

Now about the book. It only needs one word WOW. She really has a knack for nailing that fine line between romance and erotic. Her books are definitely romance there are sex scenes that are just detailed enough without TOO much detail. PERFECT!!! This is one of very few series that I will be waiting for and read each and every book
