Event planner Rachel Persopoulos doesn’t have an impulsive bone in her body. The one time she threw caution to the wind, she wound up alone and pregnant, just like her mother before her. Now her life as a single mom only works because of her determined avoidance of anything that isn’t part of her plans. But when her boss assigns her a massive Christmas charity fundraiser, she learns the celebrity face of the event is the one person she never planned on seeing again.
All-Star catcher Cameron Cole never stopped thinking about the woman who dumped him via text message two years ago—though he never expected to find her coordinating a celebrity bachelor auction. He’d fallen hard for Rachel, and when she ghosted on him he'd told himself it was for the best. He’d been in the middle of a messy divorce—which, yes, he should have told her about, but she should definitely have told him he’d fathered a child!
When he meets his baby daughter for the first time, Cam knows instantly that he wants to be part of her life—a desire which becomes more complicated when he realizes he still has feelings for her mother.
Rachel isn’t sure she can trust Cam again, but if he isn’t the married playboy she thought was using her, could he be exactly what she needs? She wasn’t planning on letting him back into her life, but this Christmas nothing is going as planned…
Contemporary romance author Lizzie Shane was born in Alaska and still calls the frozen north home, though she can frequently be found indulging her travel addiction. Thankfully, her laptop travels with her and she has written her way through all fifty states and over fifty countries.
Lizzie has been honored to win the Golden Heart Award and HOLT Medallion, and has been named a finalist three times for Romance Writers of America’s prestigious RITA Award®, but her main claim to fame is that she lost on Jeopardy!
An Unplanned Christmas is book three in the Yours for Christmas series by Lizzie Shane. This is a sweet second chance romance. I would call it a clean romance, in that the sex scene is fade to black.
Two years ago, Cameron Cole, an up and coming professional baseball player, met Rachel Persopoulos and fell fast and hard. They spent a little over three weeks inseparable. Cameron failed to let Rachel know that he was technically still married, in name only, the divorce pending. He had fallen so hard for Rachel he was afraid it would scare her off. But she did find out, and it did scare her away. She ended things with a text message. But found out soon after that she would forever be tied to who she thought was a cheater. She was pregnant.
Fast forward two years. Cameron is more successful than ever and has been slated as the headliner celebrity for a bachelor auction for a charity Cam supports. Rachel is struggling as a single mother of an eighteen month old toddler as well as working full time for an event planner. When Cam walks in to the office to be briefed regarding the auction, both he and Rachel are in for quite a surprise when they come face to face.
Rachel has a past, a father who left lasting scars on her resulting in trust issues. She never told Cam about the baby. He didn’t know he had a daughter. When they are forced to spend time together, he gets the opportunity to explain and Rachel learns she had misconstrued the entire situation two years ago. She knows she has to tell him the truth.
Neither Cam or Rachel ever really got over the other. What they shared was strong. Now as they attempt to learn how to co-parent, the feelings have a chance to grow again, strengthen. But Rachel still has to learn how to trust, how to give in. Every time she starts to let down her defenses just a little bit, something will remind her of her childhood and those walls slam right back up. How can Cam convince her that he would never hurt her? That she is all he ever wants?
This was such a sweet story. I loved Cam. I REALLY loved Cam’s family, especially his oldest sister, Carly. She was hilarious with her over sharing and her blunt way of letting her brother know what he was doing wrong. I clearly understood Rachel’s reasons for feeling the way she did. Still, I did struggle a little bit with her keeping the knowledge of the baby from Cam and I got a little frustrated at how hard she tried to keep herself from falling for him again. But, of course, with the magic of Christmas at hand, she figured it all out in time. This book had the sweetest epilogue. I have not read the other two Christmas books in this series but if this one sounds good to you, then you definitely should check those out as well.
Oh how I love holiday stories (especially) when the characters are SO surprised that life isn’t always as it seems. An Unplanned Christmas was heartbreaking AND heartwarming, from the very start, because Rachel Persopoulos and Cameron (Cam) Cole both have what they consider devastating personal issues to deal with, from their pasts. It takes most of the story for them to realize that they need to work on their own personal “inside” stories before life can move on…and/maybe for both of them.
I won’t give any spoilers but Rachel and Cam have a child together – Cam has no idea his baby daughter exists until he meets up with Rachel years later. It sounds heartbreaking, and it is, but I loved how Cam persisted in being in their lives again and how much he immediately loved his baby girl. He and Rachel “work” together, too, but it takes time and trust to make it happen.
Great read, truly heartwarming, and a wonderful Christmas in July story!
A lovely second chance romance. Rachel and Cameron are together for three weeks and it is intense. She has baggage, her father was married to someone other than her mother and it has left Rachel distrustful. When she finds out that Cam has not been completely honest with her, she runs. Two years later and they are thrust together. Reading the insecurities of both of these characters and hoping for them to get back together is a very enjoyable read.
Holiday books are the best! This second chance romance about letting go and letting someone in is a good read. I liked how Rachel was such a planner, but even she couldn’t plan for everything that would happen in her life.
Cam is a good guy, even if he constantly flubs up what he truly wants in his life. A professional baseball player who works for everything in his life, he works hard to earn Rachel back. I enjoyed this book!
I really liked the story in this book, but Rachel was downright depressing. SPOILERS AHEAD…
I totally understood Rachel ghosting Cam when she found out he was still married—especially with the history of her father. But not telling him she was pregnant and had a daughter was unforgivable in my eyes. Whether he was married or not, he had every right to know he had a child and that child had every right to know her father. The only time I find this acceptable is if the father is abusive or she has no way to find him. Anyway..he forgives her pretty quick.
But my gosh, her depressing attitude killed this book for me. She didn’t trust anyone—especially Cam. She didn’t trust her mother’s judgment in regards to relationships and love. She said hurtful things to her mother many times even though her mom did so much for her and her daughter. She was jealous when her daughter warmed up to Cam so quickly. She was a control freak and had this unhealthy need for everything to be perfect. I was surprised that Cam still wanted her so badly. I just thought this book would have been way better if she was a little warmer and accepting towards him—even if she still held him at arms length.
I did however understand her being so upset when she thought Cam was cozying up with his ex-wife. But I thought that whole scene would have been way more suspenseful and shocking if she hadn’t doubted him the whole book. I did love epilogue though.
Had a good story, started out great but I couldn’t get past the cheesy baseball puns and the monologue backstories repeated constantly. Very repeaterive with almost the same wording. All drama not much love story. Good epilogue tho. 2⭐️ 1🌶
Summary spoilers! Rachel was dating Cam a famous baseball player. Things were good he told her he loved her. Until she went to his game and ran into his wife. She texted it’s over, blocked him and left. She didn’t know that his wife had asked for a divorce a year ago but is pretending to be married for his insurance because she has cancer and so he doesn’t look bad for them separating when she has cancer. 2 years later she had Sofia their 1.5 yr old who she never told him about. Her dad was a pro nfl player that was married with a kid and had a mistress, Rachels mom. Which made her want to stay clear away from Cam or anyone like her dad. At work as an even planner she is surprised to find that she is working an event that Cam has volunteered for. She tells him about Sofia he does great with her. They start dating again. Then at the event his ex wife bids on him and he flirts and kisses her and Rachel gets upset. They make up and 5 years later have a bunch of kids.

Enjoyable story and I liked how it played out and the epilogue was sweet. Cole was lovely but insecure and to be truthful, an idiot. How can you not explain such a serious situation to someone you’ve just told you love. Idiot male. But Rachel and her thinking/behaviour was annoying and had a bit of a whiplash effect. I also never agree with not telling someone they are going to be a parent. If it screws up their situation, tough. Not blaming Rachel for her thinking in regards to relationships, her mother had set a bad example by being a doormat and staying connected to a cheating married man. Then apparently dating losers.. But her relationship with her mother was unbalanced. She had a load of acceptable resentment but whenever she unleashed on her mother, she felt guilty and mean. Not sure how they all managed to live under one roof. Pity the grandmother never got to say her piece. And the half brother never shows up. Maybe that’s a different book, but this is the first I’ve read in this series. A pity her scum bucket biological father was dead. He deserved raking over the coals. No mention is made if either had been with others in the two years apart.

The hero Cam is a baseball star who meets and quickly falls deeply in love with the heroine at a charity dinner.
The heroine Rachel has major trust issues. Her father was a famous footballer who cheated on his wife with Rachel's mother and continued to string her along with false promises for years. So when Rachel discovers that Cam is married she instantly dumps him. Later she discovers she's pregnant, but keeps the baby a secret as Cam has moved to the West Coast to play for a different team and she figures she won't ever see him again.
It was a big misunderstanding as Cam and his wife had been separated for a long time but had not publicly divorced. When Rachel runs into Cam two years later she's forced to introduce him to his daughter.
Cam wants to be a great father, but he slso wants a future with Rachel, if she'll have him.
This is a clean romance with no descriptive love scenes.
I think this is gonna wrap up my Christmas reads for 2021 and boy, was it a good one to end on! The title of this book may lead you to think the story is about something other than what you’d expect. However, there is what you expect, it just isn’t the crux of the story. Now that I have you completely confused, you’ll have to read the book to make it make sense. It was an evil plot….
There is so much in this book. A whirlwind romance, a text message ending everything, a chance second meeting, discoveries, unresolved issues (those are there in spades), and opening your heart to unexpected possibilities. Oh, and learning to trust. That’s the biggie. Cam and Rachel make it all fun. Cam's huge and meddling family, especially his big sister Carly, make it even more fun! This is a warm and fuzzy, humorous, and entertaining story that you’ll love reading around a fireplace snuggled up with a blanket.
I loved this story. It was a really nice change for a quick seasonal story to have such a headstrong female character like Rachel and for the lead male, Cameron to be the soppy one!
Rachel and Cam initially meet at a charity function she organised. At the end of the night they started chatting and fell into an easy relationship very quickly. Three weeks later Rachel's life is thrown upside down by an incident which shows Cam in a totally different light and she walks away, closing the door on their relationship completely.
Two years later Cam is thrown back into her life, but this time circumstances have changed for Rachel. Can she trust him? Trust is the biggest point of this lovely short story.
This book was an enjoyable read that I didn’t want to put down! Ms. Shane wrote great characters, conversations & scenery. I could almost imagine myself in the book! Cam is a professional baseball catcher. Rachel is an event planner. They met when Cam was separated from his wife. He invited Rachel to a game without knowing his estranged wife would be there! So much for Cam’s & Rachel’s relationship. She broke up with him in a text. Sofia is a result from that affair. Rachel never tells Cam she has a daughter by him. This book takes twists & turns keeping the reader in suspense!
Rachel and Cam get a second chance at love after a rough begining! Rachel has trust issues (who doesn't) but her issues are deep and painful! Her hatred of Cameron is understandable but over-the-top! The fall out makes for great angst! Cam and Rachel unexpectedly get another opportunity to get it right a couple of years later! The storyline is heartwarming as they work through a myriad of issue and complications! Blessed with loving families, Cam and Rachel share the christmas season with them and especially Sophie! Lizzie Shane has written a sweet and charming romance for christmas!
My first encounter with a Lizzie Shane novel, "An Unplanned Christmas", was an unplanned delight. Super suspicious Rachel meets ultra romantic Cam, and sparks fly--albeit, not in the way either expects. Although Rachel's lack of trust becomes irritating at times, she is still worthy of a team to cheer on her HEA. Eventually, love conquers all, after a whirlwind navigation through a tricky path. Shane's love scenes are less than spicy, but the couple's love for one another shines nevertheless.
Storyline couldn't be better...& a Christmas love story at that. Cam & Rachel, that love at first sight couple, the one you know never happens..but it did; only thing is their "love at first sight" took a two year hiatus & Rachel gave birth to a baby girl, unbeknownst to Cam.
I surely have told you enough to intrigue you enough to wonder "what in the world?" It's a good fun Christmas love story. Ms Shane tells a good story. Read & enjoy.
Cute, but it was really frustrating to see Rachel think "I'm going to try to be more flexible!!" And then in the next breath freak out and revert back to her typical ways. It was so difficult to read and made it almost impossible relate to her in any way. Saying you want to change and actually changing are definitely two different things but to get to the second you have to work at it, and she didn't seem willing to do that at all.
Cute story WTH a bit of nagging, insecure female lead. A misunderstanding by omission left Rachel pregnant with baseball catcher Cam’s baby. Two years later they meet again and the truth is out. Rachel cannot seem to move past her feelings and insecurities of having a deadbeat dad herself. Her fallback to it gets a bit boring after a while. Some cute moments and funny banter.
This is a great love story full of humor and annoying siblings. Cam and Racel have to get past trust issues and misunderstandings to realize what a perfect love they have. Their families are wonderful characters, especially . Cams sister Carly who is hilarious.
The third person narration made the story very flat. The characters weren't well developed and parts of the plot didn't really make sense. It was a sweet story, not steamy- lacked angst, chemistry, or romantic tension. An ideal read for someone looking for a "cozy romance" Quite a bit of repetition and parts of the characters' past felt belabored.
Yes, I knew what I was getting in to, but man! There really wasn’t an original thought in this book. And if I read anxiety described as “panic bunnies” one more time…. I will say that the author did do a good job with dialog and making it sound just as people would really speak. Other than that, I was completely underwhelmed.
Loved this book! It was a great Christmas book! You will enjoy the event planner and the baseball billionaire! I loved the use of comparing life to baseball was very interesting! I loved the little things he did to loosen her up and how she reacted to them! How they were a like even though they seemed quite opposite! An overall good book for the season!
This is the second Lizzie Shane book I have read and I am hooked. Unplanned Christmas gives you every feeling throughout. The characters are definitely ones you start to get annoyed with and love so much. You will find yourself not wanting to put this book down.
A beautiful second chance romance with lots of emotions. Rachel is a strong character who makes a bad decision when she finds out Cam didn't tell her something important. When she is faced with working with Cam, two years later, she has to face her her fears. Cam is surprised when Rachel breaks up with him and more surprised when he runs into her again. There is a HEA
An Unplanned Christmas (Yours for Christmas Book 3)
The love story of Rachel and Cameron. 27 months ago, Rachel walk out on Cam after met his wife but he left a surprise for her. A baby! Now he is back and their daughter is 18 months old, and he just find out. Can they get back to getter and may a family? Great story.
Cam met Rachel over two years ago when they dated for a month. At the end of the month Rachel sent him a text saying it was over. They have just met again at a meeting concerning a gala auction for a charity. Is it the time for them talk about & work out their differences in addition to revealing their secrets?
Reading a Christmas story in February is as much fun as reading it in December!
This was the perfect example of how important it is to listen to a whole story before jumping into the wrong idea. I really enjoyed the story, but it got pretty predictable toward the end. Still a good read, enjoy!
An absent already married father taught Rachel that love won’t work if there isn’t truth, so she ran before getting the whole story. It takes a lot to make her understand that every man she meets isn’t her father.
Well written, great characters, loved the storyline, serious and funny dialogue, background well told and important to the story, highly recommend. Made me smile when I finished this book.
Rachel is determined to never fall in love, then she meets Cam. But then she finds out he’s married. She texted him “It’s over”. But he’d told he lived her that morning so what happened? Two years later they run into each other. She tells him he’s a father. Interesting book.
I just loved this story. It was not some boring love story. It was something that really could happen in life and I hope this ending has happened to lots of couples!
