This review is for the Japanese translation of this book, あなたを応援する誰か, translated from the original Korean by writer 桑畑優香 (Yuka Kuwahata). For context, I cannot read Korean, but can read Japanese.
A rare jewel i found up for ARC reading on NetGalley, and a treat for me to remind myself that i actually can still read Japanese outside work thankyouverymuch. Another winner for #womenintranslation month, from the woman in translation on your timeline (haha) - if I was tracking this on some kind of point system this has to be worth double points since it's both written and translated by women. But moving on.
The copy states this book to be full of "healing messages", and I would say that the nuggets of wisdom in this book are little enough to sneak into a busy day while also being hefty enough to (hopefully) make a difference in how you think about things. My favorites in particular are the parts that said "you're the only you in this world, so only you can be the most perfect version of yourself", "the emotions that win over your life are the ones that you feed the most", and "you don't have to push yourself too hard - you're doing great enough as you are right now." Sometimes that's just all you need to hear.
