Marie Johnston is an award-winning, best-selling paranormal and contemporary romance writer. She grew up in the upper Midwest and planned to go to college for English. Didn't happen. She started college in accounting and was awful! Grabbing her inner science geek by the pocket protector, she changed to microbiology and medical technology where her only writing involved scientific articles and procedures. Eventually, she left full-time work for full-time baby raising but kept thinking, "one day, I'd like to write a book." Finally, before any more time passed, Marie decided to buckle down and write. She loves it!
I enjoyed reading the whole series, one right after the other. Johnston does a great job of developing three-dimensional characters who are, for the most part, likeable and relatable. It seemed that in all of the books, it was the guy who had to learn something about himself and then change his behavior or attitude in order for his relationship with his love interest to work. Despite that, the plots were all different enough that I didn't feel I was reading the same one over and over again with only slight variations. Of the three books, I enjoyed three the most--the stories of Dillon and Elle, of Brock and Josie, and of Travis and Kami. I especially enjoyed the relationship between Brock and Josie, seeing how their relationship grew despite his autism. I really liked Cash (the third book in the series), but I just couldn't get into Abbi. I guess her personality and mine didn't mesh. I also thought that too much had been made of the chaos in Aaron's household, which had prevented him from finding a woman locally. But then when Daisy came to be his bride from the Philippines, I didn't see the chaos I'd been expecting. Boredom was more of a factor for Daisy than Aaron's family. And the fact that no one had done anything about Aaron's mom's depression until the end of the book seemed weird to me. But all in all, the books were each an entertaining read.
This review is for all 5 books of the Walker family men.
I had purchased and read the first book in the series. I enjoyed it very much so I thought I'd continue with the rest of the series. It was great that I could purchase the other 4 books all in one giant book. It's cheaper than buying each book separately. Now onto reviewing the books: Each book is a story about a brother or cousin who are owners of the Walker Five ranch & farm. They each have their own personalities. These stories will show their lives & loves. They all end in HEAs. But to find out how it gets there, read the books.
Well written stories and well developed characters! The ups and downs, the laughter and the tears! It is all so real! I loved these stories and all the happy ever after!
I love books in a series because you get to hear little tidbits in the next story about previous stories. This didn't happen in these stories. It started to in the first two and then went flat. The author also needs to have some serious! editing done. Lots of pronoun issues, lots of issues where a person ends up somewhere they can't be after lovemaking and biggest of all - in Travis' story you have him coming to see Kami on Patsy Cline! That's Cash's horse! And Kami has been gone so long she wouldn't know the name any way.
Fall in love with the town of Moore, the Walkers, and all of the characters that create a story of fiction. Fiction that will be hard to believe isn’t real. Superb story telling.
