I really like this book, and it has a fun and easy layout. It has a page dedicated to each state's capital. On each page there is a map of all the main attractions in each city. There is a key that goes with the map that gives interesting facts about each place. On each page, you can also find a brief description of the state capital, the states flag, where it is located on a US map, the population of both the capital and the whole state, other large cities, date it entered the union, and the state flower and animal. This gives such a simple but informative introduction to each state.

I would love to use this book in a 3rd grade classroom, and I would randomly assign each student a state. I would have this book available as a source, but it cannot be the only source they use. They will have to research their state and make a poster to share with the class that includes a set list of requirements and interesting facts. I would then have them share with the class.
