A post-apocalyptic LitRPG set 50 years after an alien invasion.
17-year-old Max has spent almost his entire life in the Wastelands, an endless desert littered with the burnt-out hulls of spaceships.
In the final battle of the Interstellar War, aliens released a wave of radiation that killed half the human population and turned the rest into horrific mutants that stalk the desert dunes.
But the aliens are dead and gone. Now humans are the only monsters left.
All Max wants to do is survive day-to-day and provide for his mother and little brother.
But when Gestapo-like guards from the walled fortress of Neo Angeles corner him, Max falls into an underground cavern…
And finds an alien spacecraft undiscovered by humans.
Something inside it is alive.
Something that could grant Max unimaginable power.
But the corrupt governor of Neo Angeles will do anything to possess that power first.
Now Max is in a race against time.
He must learn to use his new abilities… Level up and gain new ones… Make allies inside the futuristic city of Neo Angeles… And stop Governor Saris before he kills millions of innocents in his quest to rule Earth.
It’s said that sufficiently advanced technology would be indistinguishable from magic.
If that’s true, then Max must become a Future Mage to save the human race.
This book contains LitRPG elements and violence. No sex, no harems, mild profanity.
This wasn't categorized as Young-Adult, but it is. It's short, action-packed and relatively good. Think Mocking-Bird light, (but better than book three).
Max is probably a little too wholesome for my taste. He gets super-powers and fails to revel in his power even once, despite having a number of enemies to choose from.
The setting is also a little hard to believe. Imagine a band of militant cannibals as neighbors to a pacifist town. How long do you think that would remain stable? Apparently for a decade at least.
The big bad-guy went from being an off-screen shadow to a full-time psycho in no time at all. As I said, it's YA. Oh, and don't think too hard about how the super-powers level-up. Because it makes no sense.
Since I'm partial to scifi and especially stories that happen in space, this story was one I found particularly interesting. It didn't take place in space, but it did have aliens, space ships, and some sufficiently advanced technology, which is all a win in my book. Pretty good story here, and I'd not mind reading more in this universe, should prove interesting.
I enjoyed this but the target audience was a bit younger than I expected. This wasn't even YA, it felt like it was aimed at teens, which doesn't mean it's bad at all, I just didn't expect that.
Surprisingly original, with interesting worldbuilding and backstory. The litrpg elements merge seamlessly with the narrative and have suitable explanations behind them as opposed to a generic “one day blue screens appeared” approach. Max is a likeable if somewhat standard MC. Very few spelling or grammatical errors. All in all this book checks all the boxes for me and I can’t wait for book two. Keep up the great work!
This book was a real fun read, really enjoyed the character development and can see it turning into a great series. I can't wait for the next one. Ability system is easy and clear to follow and doesn't distract from the plot or drama. It is all very well balanced and kept me engrossed from start to finish.
The story is a little district 9 meets classic litrpg with decent if not well developed characters. The powers are interesting and used rather well but the fight scenes are obtuse to the point of being literary quagmires that I ended up skimming halfway through the story.
What I liked about this book was the unique aspect of the talents and powers of the post apocolyptic world. It had lots of action and very real personalities. It was fun and included lots of cool abilities for the characters. You would have to go pretty far to find something that was bad.
This is a solid YA post-apoc book; well-written, pretty well-paced, but fairly obviously geared at a younger audience than me. It showed up in my Recommendations feed so this wasn't immediately obvious, but it wasn't bad so I finished it. Really not much else I can say about it.
With tons of litrpg titles coming out its hard to find the best of the genre, but you’ve found one. Well written, complete, unique, engaging and paced well this bodes to be a great series.
I loved the book! The MC was well fleshed our with enough human flaws to counter his OP stats. I’d highly recommend anyone who is a fan of litrpg or dystopian futures read this book.
Thank you for putting this to paper. The story line interesting, and you've built up a great group of characters. I can't wait to see where you go from here.
Good pacing overall with just a bit of a rushed feeling in places. Liked the world building and some nice revelations. Curious to see how the story continues.
