Heavy snows in January, combined with temperatures dipping into the minus fifties killed off thousands of cattle. In some open areas, some estimated that 90% of the cattle died. Rivers and streams were fouled by rotting carcasses, and many ranchers sold off what remained of their herds.
On the Southern Plains, an extended drought also wiped out many cattle.
Books nine and ten, in the Marshall Family Western Series, take place against this backdrop. With cattle prices at rock bottom, Judith thinks it’s time to invest every dollar she has into young heifers. If the rains come, she could make a killing. Gus also sees the wisdom in buying cattle, but first, he wants to go home and explain to Judith what happened with Rose. But before any of that, he needs to make things right with Mr. Wilkerson.
Cattle are cheap in the spring of 1887. Bullets and lives are cheaper.
Great story. Read in one afternoon. So exciting and adventurous for Gus and Mr Wilkerson and cattle drive north. Awaiting for next book of the Marshall Family Western. Thanks for your writing talents, Mr Cochrane, and sharing with us.
Good paced stories. Action and the reality of the aftermath of family’s and friends actions and emotions. Strong characters facing formidable challenges. And the good guy usually wins.
This book has served as a great distraction from current life in the Covid 19 crisis. It's nice to go back into time and read how the Good guys win. The Good guys and women will win the war of this virus in 2020 as well. Keep the stories coming!!
I love the continuing family stories. Mr Cochran is a talented story writer who is actually able to use real history in his tales. I look forward to the next book in this series. It truly gives perspective during what we are calling a pandemic in our history of diseases that have taken many lives from typhoid, small pox , and rubella ( which has risen again because of ignorance of vaccination ). Thanks for a thought provoking story and entertainment during a precarious period in our current period snd what will become history.
A super story and series about the West of years past. Please stay well and publish Book 11 soon. I too am homebound due to the virus but find it tolerable thanks to your fine writing.
Gus is on the cattle drive to get home in Montana but driving a here of cattle was very dangerous work. There were always men who wanted what they don't have and are willing to do anything they have to regardless of who they have to kill along the way. It just seems that Gus is usually found standing right in front of those who would steal and kill his friends. He's trying as hard as he can to get back home, home where she is, he hopes. Great 👍Read!!!
These tales will take you back to a time when men and women had to be tough in order to persevere thru situations found in the wild west. Mr. Cochrane has the ability to let the reader know how tough some of those decisions had to have been. These may be fictional characters , but nothing was fictional in the wild west. Mr. Cochrane's stories of Thorn ,Gus, Judith, and Cleve have brought them all to life for me
I'm not much of a reader. My wife tells me I should read more. After reading the first book in the Marshal series (War Wounds) it was hard for me to stop reading the next book and then the next. Wyatt Cochrane has a way to keep a reader from laying down a book. My hat off to you Mr Cochrane. Can't wait to read Colorado Chaos.
As usual your books was very interesting and kept my attention. I have enjoyed all of your books and did not want to put them down. Thank you. Will continue to be an a I'd reader of your books.
Your books kept me very interested I Galloway all of your wonderful characters. All of your books from 1 to 11 were hard to put down. Keep up the good writing. Let me know when book 11 comes out😊
Sorry to see the end but looking forward to the next book. Hurry and complete. Nice to read a book that I feel was written but does not seem to contain computerized copy of previous books..does that make sense..new material feels good
I really liked the individual stories and characters except one. I was disappointed with one of the women and thought she was an arrogant teenager who needed to get smacked down a few notches.
I started with book one and kept going, buying the next in the series until I found my self at the end of the last volume. I’ll probably read everything the author has or will write.
Excellent series. I've always loved Western and Wayne C has given us a set of Western to chew on. His character portrayal is spot on and the story line is inventive . this series is one to ride the river with b thanks for your work.
Here I go sgain, reading into s series really from close to the end to the final one. Buy Wyatt, you save me as you sound like Judith and Gus are going to at least have one more! So, I guess I will say thanks for another great read. Dave Cochran
I'm going to be sad when this series comes to an end yet I've enjoyed the stories that have led to this point. Adventure and action in each book and plenty of intrigue to keep the pages turning.
I can't put down these books when I'm reading what Gus and Judith are experiencing. They have more than there share of trouble. The surprise about Judith is shocking. Sadly not to my liking. I guess disappointed. Keep reading. Its mesmerizing.
Mr Cochrane. Thank you for this great series. Your adventures keep me reading and I couldn't wait to see what happens next. You are my favorite writer. Keep up the good work!
Lots of excitement, too much romantic confusion, bit a good series nonetheless. Author is even getting peeked right sometimes but still messing up on sunk.
