Isla Isla was just 16 years old when her life course was forever altered.
A highborn girl, Duchess by title, but a woman of the people. Loved by all for her fierce protectiveness.
But who will save her when she is married to a horrible prince, and who will save her from her blood thirsty uncle?
The last person Isla would have expected to save her is Ivar the Cruel, the most fearsome Viking warrior in all of England.
Will she escape his clutch, or will he keep her as his own?
Ivar the Cruel A huge viking, infamous throughout England. People know him through stories, the great white bear fur he wears on his back is a symbol of his strength and courage.
His father's words echo throughout the depths of his soul. Women make men weak, and weak men die.
But Ivar knew that Isla was fated to him from the moment he laid eyes on her. And Ivar is a warlord who gets what he wants, without compromise.
"“‘Being a man isn’t all it’s cracked up to be either, you know. They have to go off to war. They fight in battles so we don’t have to.” Margaret said. “That’s the men’s fault for being so stupid as to go to war in the first place, there’s enough land and food for everyone without needing to fight for more,” Isla said."
"Women make men weak, and weak men die."
"My father told me that women make men weak. But I’m sorry my father, you are wrong. When a man finds the right woman, she will make him the strongest man alive. And I have just married that woman."
Please have the kindle copy proofed for grammar (some sentences are non-sensical due to extra words or words out of order. There are also several punctuation errors with regards to quotation marks which caused a stumble or two.
Overall, a good story but needs a good proofreader!
Hilda quite whiney. It's understandable she's upset that she's a slave, but she keeps blaming Ragnar. Ragnar offers to free her multiple times and she says "but I'll be poor." And stays angry with him
Also rudeness instead of gratitude when somebody rushed to your rescue is a pet peeve of mine. The man saved her from rape and slavery from a stranger.
" A wife is basically a slave, anyway." Is her response When non abusive Ragnar proposes? Hilda really knows how to kill my sympathies towards her.
This is a definite read. The story line kept me interested enough that I did not to want to put it down. The characters are interesting as well as lovable. My only complaint is that there are so many mistakes in grammar and spelling such as “But knew I her heart”, “The bodily sensations consumer her”, “Ivar he said, his face taught “ “Ragnar turning the meet over the fire” among many others. Other than that I did like this book
Quick fun read - grammatical errors - past and present tense intermixed which at times confused me. Spelling errors through out but over all the story was a fun read. The author could have done stretched a little further and the book would have been superb. I truly do not want to portray myself as mean or offensive towards the author because TS Florence did great - I just know that with some revamping, this story could flourish.
This is a good story but seriously in need of a technical editor due to numerous misused and/or misspelled words throughout. It also is TCTC jarring with all the character point of view switching.
So, this book was definitely hard to get into. It didn't flow. This read like a horney teenage boy wrote this. It had the makings of a good story but was executed poorly. So over "I hate you, I love you" stories.
The story was okay-ish, but there were so many spelling and grammar mistakes that I had to re-read a lot of sections just to understand. I feel like the edit stage was missed.
I did like that there were different viewpoints throughout the story.
Isla and Ivar good story. Is la is a Princess trapped in a loveless marriage. Over takes her prisoner for reasons he only knows. There's action and adventure.
I did not like the going back and forth of years, also I found so many grammatical errors and incorrect character names. Some sentences did not flow correctly either.
MY FIRST READ BY THIS AUTHOR, AND I WAS QUITE ENJOYABLE. THE CHARACTERS WERE ONLY IN THEIR EARLY TWENTIES, BUT I'M GLAD THEY WEREN'T THAT IMMATURE.
IVAR years ago, had fallen in love with the blonde-haired beauty Isla the moment he set eyes on her the first time he visited England with his Father. Daughter of a Duke, he dared to ask for her hand in marriage for the future. What I didn't agree with Ivar's method was that he kept mum of his promise with the Duke even after the man died years later. Okay, maybe that speaks of his integrity but I though the situation he was in could at least allow him to give Isla a hint of his actions - killing her husband and taking her back to her uncle who was willing to pay him a good amount of gold. Obviously, to a woman who was starting to fall for him and shares his bed would translate it as a huge betrayal. IVAR took over his clansmen after the death of his father, and I have to agree that he was quite young still to take charge, but only when Isla came along did he bumbled a little with the back up of some of his men.
ISLA was wedded off to a nasty Prince and has suffered abuse under the vain, flabby peacock's thumb ever since. Thank God they never consummated their marriage, which was a bit weird though if you asked me because...well what man wouldn't? Unless he's gay of course. Anyways, when Ivar strides back into her life, killing her pathetic husband and arranging to have her sent back to her uncle who wants to kill her, she's desperate to attempt escapes. Along the way, it wasn't hard for her to fall into bed with Ivar and into his heart.
OVERALL it was a bit of a starry-eyed Viking romance, there was no intensity or heat here, just mild passion and the plot was so-so.
Great story, looking forward to the next in the series!
I read this in one sitting, on my day off, rejecting all my other "day off" obligations. It was just that good!
The story line is strong, the heroine...though yes at times I wanted to scream at her...was a strong, compassionate woman, the hero a good hearted man. Though don't get me wrong, he was not a weak man, not in the least.
In an age and society where women were seen as bargaining tools, Isla was a very strong woman, standing up as well as she could for others. (Is it any wonder that she fell for Ivar?)
I am not good at writing, I leave that to the professionals, so I rarely write reviews, unless a book catches my eye...and heart... like this one did.
I would have given 5 stars, except for the mistakes that were made in getting names mixed up and in the last part of the book where the tense seemed to go from past to present. Both were a bit confusing. (And I am sure that there are reviewers who will mark it down far more then I have for those mistakes, so perhaps a re-edited version can be put out before that happens?)
I have kindle unlimited, which I borrowed this thru and can honestly say that this book alone made the monthly payment worth it.
I love a good Viking story, especially if the Vikings are headstrong yet softhearted. The hero was incredible, Clever yeat Cruel when his loved ones were threatened. The Heroine? Naive I would say, but all the same very likable. Read it in one sitting, thats how much I liked it. Although, the author should review the book once more and get an editor before being published. There were many spelling, grammar, and characters mistakes, had to go back a few times to understand who and what they were talking about. Besides that, looking forward to Skald's book.
This was a really good read I got mad at some parts and loved other's I hope the next book in the series is just as good can't wait to read it the sex scene could have been just a little better, but they were good as is Isla character could have been a little stronger. but she was a strong woman dealing with a stubborn man, and at time's I hated Ivar but I understood why he did the things that he did to Isla.
I thought the story was very well written and flowed well. The story kept me glued to the pages to see how everything would turn out. I loved the characters and had this read in one sitting.
