DISCLAIMER: this review is for both the web comic and novel combined
재혼 황후 1 Jaehon Hwangho 1 by Alpha Tart is honestly one of the most frustrating novels I've ever read. It digs so deep into my nerves you wouldn't even understand.
I love Navier so much. I've not come across many authors that use this technique, so I was pleasantly surprised when I read about Navier. The author doesn't use character development, but instead chooses to use slow-burning character establishment. This technique is used with Rin from The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang and I respect the author so much for doing it. Navier's strong personality had no reason to be changed, she was powerful in her own brilliant ways. And this was slowly established to us through the actions that she did because ultimately, we were the only foreigners to her character in the first place. We saw her passion, her distress, her iron-will and her pain. It doesn't take a genius to realise that this is all pre-built in Navier. What a brilliant character.
I can't do the story justice by just talking about Navier. There were so many brilliantly sketched out characters who all contributed to the progression of this masterpiece. Even that bitch Trashta. **oh? are you telling me her name was Rashta** Yeah. Trashta.
If you heard screaming, that was me realizing that the English translation I was reading ends abruptly after 174 chapters. I guess I have to learn Korean now.
I HATE Sovieshu, i honestly can't explain how much I'm raging at him, he is the most stupid person i have ever had the displeasure of reading about, on the contrary - I absolutely adore Heinley, i got sooo happy when someone in a novel forum spoiled that
About Navier's ''infertilety'', I seriously don't understand why the emperor constantly says that she is infertile and even
While Sovieshu is stupid as hell, he knows that Navier is a perfect empress and that Trashta could never beat her skills-
Speaking of Trashta as many in the fandom have dubbed her, I'm not even exaggerating- 98% of the problems would have never appeared if the idiot never met the emperor, she literally ruins EVERYTHING, she puts on such an innocent face that literally makes her resemble an 8 year old and gets away with everything bc Sovieshu is there as her shield.
And also, I noticed that Navier is so much prettier than Rashta, not even kidding, first i genuinely thought Rashta was prettier but taking a closer look Navier is so much more beautiful and elegant. The emperor clearly can't think and constantly tells Navier that she is jealous of Rashta everytime Navier brings up something about her, EVERY SINGLE TIME
Heinely is my boo, he is a literal prince charming, i love him, perfection embodied. He treats Navier like te true queen she is and literally worships her, I'm pretty sure he was trembling/almost crying when Navier sais she would be his queen. At about chapter 83 or 84 the divorce actually happens and i read the mtl version so much is honestly very weird to read and it's sooooo slow but i think in the end it will be worth it.
At one point (i think ch 108) Sovieshu realizes what a bad empress Rashta is even if it was supposed to be only temporary (which failed because Navier requested to remarry and was granted that) and literally comes to the Western Kingdom and asks Navier to come back, HELL NO??? FYI i think it's worth mentioning that Rasthta requested to handle the budget of the kingdom and LITERALLY SPENDS IT ON HERSELF AND JEWELRY, which makes Sovieshu realize how bad of an empress she is, although it doesn't make him any less fond of her??
Rashta also has a CHILD that she had before the emperor, and even when the emperor finds out and stuff, HE STILL LOVES HER?????? I felt that their relationship was honestly kinda strained evern before but nothing really changed even after it was revealed..
Some sort of incident ocurred and made Sovieshu and some others lose political power, and I'm pretty sure the Western Kingdom which Heinley rules is coming closer to either overthrow the Eastern Empire or become independent.
Started with the manga then moved on to the fan English translation of the story until it stopped-So I'm at a similar point as a lot of people. *cries at not being able to read Korean*
I did however scour the internet to get spoilers because I just had to know what was going on. Still not the same, but I will wait to read again until the story is complete somewhere in the interwebs!
Did some further research into the original webnovel + the ending (the webtoon/manhwa is still coming out) and I didn't realise how problematic this story is WTH? Am I supposed to root for a protagonist who proudly ran a country where fathers could sell their daughters into slavery to atone for their own crimes? And said daughter is portrayed as the villain of the story and detested by the fanbase? And the corrupt, cheating Emperor gets away from all this scot-free? And the true love interest is a creep with little personal boundaries and unhealthy clinginess?
I'll stick to Cursed Princess Club. So wholesome and unproblematic. Read it, Sama!
Didn’t realize this was out. Snapped it up today, read it today. I feel badly for the MC h. What a jerk her husband ended up being! I am looking forward to the next one and for this to be listed on GR in English, as I am not able to read Korean, which I am taking steps to work on.
4, I can’t wait to see the Emperor get his comeuppance, stars!

It was a good drama I believe, the both emperor and empress have such a strong character even not gonna lie that I hate the character of the emperor. The story very slow and really like an emotional roller coaster. Feel pity for the dumb choice of the emperor but that was make the story more interesting
This novel is very good when reading it I feel carried away in this novel, this novel has also been made into a webtoon comic, I have read the comic version and it is no less exciting than the original novel. My favorite character is queen navier because she is firm, smart and elegant in dealing with problems. Soviesch and rastha are characters I don't like and annoying characters. overall this novel with a royal theme is exciting and different from other royal genres.
I came here after reading the first few chapters on Webtoon and became engrossed with the story! I searched for the web novel and it was like I was obsessed with it. I basically binge read 194 chapters in the last four days and I can't wait for more!
D: The translations are discontinued and theres no way I'm using google translate. Oh well, looks like Im learning Korean after I finish learning Japanese.
"Miss Rashta told me to pass on a request.” “Request?” "Yes. She wants to learn aristocratic etiquette to help her in court life. ”I’m afraid that Rashta’s charm will disappear.” Rashta wouldn’t be exciting if she was like everyone else.
i'm quite sure the webtoon will finish this year or elapse a bit into next year, either way I'll be reading all of it + just binged the webnovel so I feel worthy in putting this as 'read'
the politics themself were interesting-- the way they were portrayed (which were infodumps through characters talking to each other) was less pleasant. some of my friends said they didn't like how navier was too perfect but I don't mind it, I honestly don't think she's perfect and hopefully heinley can help her become more of a person and less of an empress
something I really didn't like was the fandom loL! everyone was so ready to hate on rashta and it's like what? rashta was a slave! she got a way out through becoming a concubine, are you really here slut-shaming and cussing her out for it? that's kinda ridiculous, rashta clearly suffers from a lot of trauma and to one-dimensionally villanize her is unjust
in fact a lot of the characters in this series could've been great morally grey icons, but i suppose this is where a lack of character depth comes into play
even so, the villains, although so bluntly made into caricatures- were really fun to hate >.<
although I defend rashta i must say her crying is so goddamn annoying dear god she could end world thirst by how much she cries 🙄
also if I had to take a shot everytime sovieshu was a piece of shit i'd have liver failure
all in all, i really did like navier, i found myself rooting for her, and i will continue to read the webnovel! heinley is so wholesome (albeit very cringe) lmao
The novel follows the trope of Villainess Redemption story but with a different perspective. First of, if your interest in the novel was caught because of the divorce scene, you will be in for the long ride. The novel will not start off the divorce but the long events that lead up to the scene.
I love and hate how the author build up the characters. The novel is so frustrating at times. You will love Navier and Heinley and despise Sovieshit (Sovieshu) and Trashta (Rashta). Most of the chapters, you will really want to just grab those two and hurt them. (They are worst than garbage. Just go to any forums) 🤣
If you want a story that is fast-paced, this is not for you. The novel mostly takles politics and romance, so there will be a LOT of world building and political intricacies. The development of the relationship between the characters is a slow burn but they are refreshing at times.
AMAZING NOVEL!!! I CANT WAIT TO HAVE THIS NOVEL PUBLISHED ON ENGLISH because I love it very much, but unfortunately , I dont know Korean. If only this book were to be published on english I am sure people will go nuts for it. Enthralling plot, interesting and complex characters, well written villians; great descriptions of the situations, feelings, and enviroment. Everything with a good humor sense and dramatic turns that have the readers changing from being surprise, shocked, moved to tears or rage, to laught... an exciting, sweet and enjoyable roller coaster of emotions really. I have not enjoyed so much a novel in years. I recommended 1000%
A weird narrative with one of the most sexist fandoms I’ve seen. Literally insane to be in the 21st century and see people cheering for a slave woman to undergo brutal torture or something when she really was manipulated all her life and genuinely just wanted to live. Also this book is so weird and classist, and puts women against each other in a way that is stupid (I.e NOT house of the dragon or GOT).
I'm not sure how many chapters are in each edition of the web novel so this is just covering up to where the translation currently ends (ch 299). The Remarried Empress is a never-ending drama-fest, in the best way. I read the currently-running webtoon version first, so I'm happy to find that some of the character's inner thoughts and the actions they exhibit are better shown and explained in the web novel version. It's helpful to see some things from Sovieshu and Rashta's perspectives and I think that Navier seems less perfect in this version (in a good way).
Speaking of Rashta, I didn't think she could get more annoying, but she refers to herself in the third person which just adds to her already irritating personality. Not to mention the fits of anger and episodes where she talks to herself just make her sound insane. I like that while Sovieshu is most definitely a villain and an awful person, Rashta also makes horrible choices and does a lot of harm to others on her own accord. The hate she gets isn't completely undeserved, no matter what situation she came from. But she is one of the most fascinating characters in the series simply because she has her own type of logic that makes sense in it's own way. That being said, it's all very satisfying to see the mess she and Sovieshu created to start backfiring.
I think my biggest complaint is that some of the transitions between perspectives and scenes is sometimes disjointed. It's also occasionally difficult to know who is speaking, but that may be in part due to the fact I'm reading a translation. For the most part this is a really fun story full of drama and political intrigue.
This is a very very famous korean novel, and already made into webtoon. Originally i read the webtoon on kakaopage. But the webtoon has only reached chapter 40-ish while the novel already has 180 chapters 😅. So i moved to naver and use google translations to read the rest of the novel chapters. I was never interested in cheating and love triangle trope. But this story changed me 🤣🤣. The genre is romance-fantasy with more weight on the romance. The plot is REALLY intriguing and the characterization would make you want to chew your nails!! It is a really unique story with great development. . I especially love the world building. Though it is mostly romance, the author did not forget about the political intricacies and the details of the fantasy world. But what I love the most is the villain characterization. How the author built the villain's character and show the consequences of each characters' actions were really good! . Also i love how the author built the relationship between the main characters. It was refreshing. And although intense at times, it was still enjoyable. The flow of the story is really good!
If anyone is interested this is how the books are divided (as far as I'm aware) 1. (1-77) Do You Have Compassion? 2. (78-157) A Secret Story 3. (158-233) Wedding Night 4. (234-307) Rashta's Despair 5. (308-391) I Will Not Sink Alone
These series of books is one of the best written things I’ve read in a while. They resurrected my reading habits and can’t stop thinking about them.
Goodness! The balance of political tug of war and emotions are incredibly difficult to depict in form of words and novel. And no doubt the writer did a great job of it. The side characters also have just the right amount of time to focus on the grounds from where their motives evolve
I started this series like most English speaking fans (through webtoon). By the time I was uptodate, I became impatient and searched for English translations of the novel. I must say it was a delightful treat.
I love everything fantasy romance and so I was hooked right from the start. The novel was (usually) written in the point of view of Navier, the female lead. You get to follow her through her journey of being an Empress of her empire to an Empress of a new foreign land. She was born and bred to rule along side her best friend, emperor and (soon to be ex-)husband, Sovieshu. Navier learned to control her expressions and keep her emotions in-check in order to appear strong and without weakness to her enemies and people under her rule. All of her thoughts and reasons for her actions are only known to her and her loving readers.
There was a lot of details left out in the Manhwa and so, it didn’t feel like a reread when picking up the novel. I was especially excited to see moments of Heinley and Navier together. I love how Navier slowly falls in love with her Prince Charming with their love for each other deepening at each passing chapter. Aside from Heinley and Navier, McKenna is by far my favorite character.
Navier is already a strong, intelligent and well put together lead. Instead of ongoing character development, her encounters with new experiences and interactions with different nobles instead slowly build onto what is already present within her.
But because of how prideful and mature she was compared to myself, so many instances irritated me especially her interactions with Trashta. I wanted to just end Trashta’s very existence while Navier being the elegant empress she was, still showed a lot of restraint. The author has a knack for building an extremely hated villainous because she had no redeeming qualities what so ever. I had no sympathy for past or future events that fall upon Trashta.
I love this series! So much so that I bought physical copies of the novels. I’m going to slowly learn Korean during my free time just so I can read the author’s original work as is.. that is how much of a die hard fan I am ><
I generally do not read the romance genre but upon reading the manhwa adaptation I was hooked so started the novel. I really like Remarried Empress- to put it simply its addictive. However, this is by no means a light or 'easy' read. Since the story centers on the characters and drama/tension between them, reading from the protagonist's viewpoint creates somewhat of a frustrating experience. I have come close to dropping it on multiple occasions but because I am invested in the characters, I keep reading to hopefully see them reach a resolution.
The novel is not without its flaws. Sometimes I will look back and try to summarize everything I've read so far and I realize... proportionate to the amount of chapters, not very much has happened. Or at least events memorable enough for my brain to not lump them in with the typical Sovieshu/Rashta drama. As the story progresses I am finding the character writing has improved- the characters feel more believable and multidimensional than at the beginning. Early on, despite the previously described frustrations, everyone in opposition of Navier and Heinley comes off as rash and dull in comparison- just extremely persistent.
Yes, the plot relies on a lot of drama. But I find it’s easy enough to get wrapped up in and the author has done a good job ensuring it does not feel overly repetitive. Either way, Remarried Empress is an entertaining read with lead characters likeable enough to keep readers strung along. I would rate it higher but considering how many times I have almost stopped reading it, it wouldn't make sense and scale fairly with my other ratings.
