Lady Vita Castella has met the man of her dreams and isn’t about to let him get away…
After spending a magical night at a party with a handsome—if slightly dark—lord, she’ll do anything to find him. Even with the ominous Duke of Van Dero as her guardian, she shall have her desire.
There’s no door she won’t go through. But some doors were never meant to be opened…
Now darkness gives chase, and it will take the man of her heart to stop it from consuming her.
Lord Remy Astger has stood strong against temptation his entire life. As an earl and a former general in the British army, he knows discipline. But in a night, everything changed, and now he can’t get Vita out of his mind. He’ll fight any enemy who comes her way.
But what happens when Vita discovers that the man she loves is not who he seems? Will Remy’s secret destroy the very thing they fight for?
Quick Info Standalone/Cliffhanger?: Standalone Part of a Series?: Yes ---------------------------------- Meeting the Characters Vita Remy ---------------------------------- What happens? Vita wants to find her mother. She has always assumed she was taken and not ran away willingly like her father wanted to believe. She knows her mother wouldn't ever leave her behind unless she had no choice. Hoping to get the duke's help she starts poking around trying to find something to make him help her instead catching the attention of one of his men tasked with stopping her snooping. Remy is that person and when Vita goes looking for him and finds another much more dangerous to her and to the duke he realises he'll do anything to keep her safe. Final thoughts This was good. Not as good as other books in this series but I wasn't looking forward to this book for some reason. I liked Vita in the end. It did take a while to warm to her but not sure if that is just me. She seemed very wilful and it was sort of annoying. She did get better and she was a sweet character in the end. I also loved Remy. You see a different side to him in comparison to the last book; hes more dangerous and mean but in a good way? Would I read again?: Yes Would I read this author again?: Yes
Yet another great read in the Valiant Love series. I enjoyed this novel very much. There were many twists and turns and plenty of suspense. Also plenty of humour between Vita and Remy as well as chemistry. I enjoy delving onto Van Dero's business a little more each time and getting to know his friends and close business people a little more. This ended in somewhat of a cliffhanger, so I can't wait to see what happens next.
This book in the Regency Romance Series is not my favorite but its still good. I enjoyed new characters and new directions the story is bound to go. And it left me excited for the next one. I bet next up is Belle and Oliver. And I can't wait. Those two will be interesting. Now don't get me wrong, the entire season is clean, but this one made me question how clean it would remain in the beginning. But it did remain clean. It just pushed the envelope a bit more than normal for this series. And I don't like the trash some books have so I was concerned. I know some of you want more smut, but some certainly don't. And I thought it was going there. NOPE! Thank goodness. This time the quiet Lord Remy, retired General falls, in love with an outspoken much younger lady he is supposed to scare. He become less than quiet in his dislilke of how things are going with his lady when she puts herself in danger. I was bothered by the age of the lady. I have a 21 year old daughter and would be very concerned if a 37 year old man fell madly in love with her. I'd think him a creep. And while these books are set in a time that wouldn't have been a bother, it certainly is now. It made me look down on the General a bit. And it was a disappointment. But the story was still very good and I read it in two days. I can't wait for the next. I expect big things!
I have read all of Deborah Wilson’s Valiant Love series books and have enjoyed each one. This book is no exception. It’s the bad guys made soft by falling in love with a special woman. One never knows the affect a strong lady truly has over a man. This story is about Lord Remy Astger’s turn to find love. He played a part in several of Ms Wilson’s former Valiant Love books. I’m glad he finally gets to have his own love story in this series. He continued to surprise me at almost every turn. A hardened former general turned into such a softie when it came to his love interest. I loved the banter between this couple the night they met. And I loved reading about the softer side of him when he fell in love with his Vita. I especially love the wonderful HEA’s in each of Ms Wilson’s Valiant Love books. Many former characters are mentioned to keep us updated on them. Now we get to guess which character of hers Ms Wilson will write about next. This part is so much fun!
The opening chapters of this story were highly entertaining and I fell in love with the main characters. Despite the difference in age between Lady Vita and Lord Remy, they are really well suited to each other. The humour of the beginning of their relationship quickly evolves into a highly suspenseful drama when Vita's life is put in danger by her impulsive actions. Despite the Duke of Van Dero's hold over the men who serve him, there is nevertheless an honour and loyalty to him and his cause, and by extension to Vita. Having met Lord Remy Astger in previous books in this series, I did enjoy reading this one. Certainly, if one wants to understand the whole context of this novel is does help if one has read the previous books. I personally found that the ending of this plot was rather abrupt, but it does open the way to the next novel in the series. This is a worthwhile and entertaining book.
Deborah Wilson's releases top one another. Seems like the last one is always the best!
Duke Van Dero is Lady Vita Castella's guardian but she has become troublesome to him, looking for something in his home. He and Lady Belle set up General Remy as Lord Dunn and he would have been ‘the one who got away’ had not Vita chased after him. But when her search leads to trouble with the real Lord Dunst who also has a scar over his left eye, it’ll be Remy who tries to rescue her from the mess she’s made. It’s a good thing he’s strong, titled, and dangerous, and charming enough to captivate Vita. Which Lord D. will Duke Van Dero approve for marriage? Will Lady Vita find her mother she is searching for?
This story has a happy ending but leaves us on the edge of our seats for Lady Belle and Lord Oliver's story next!
A Good Read. When Vita’s nosiness in his house makes the Duke of Van Dero suspicious, he sets Remy Astger the task to frighten her. Unexpectedly Remy finds himself enchanted by her and likewise Vita is fascinated by the brooding but handsome General. However, the decision to mislead Vita as to his name and position in Van Dero’s organization leads her to the notice of a villain and suddenly Vita’s life is in danger. A fast moving story with several interesting threads, several of which will be picked up no doubt by subsequent books. Hopefully the typos in the uncorrected proof I read will have been addressed prior to publication. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I love, love, love Deborah Wilson's Valiant Love Series. I have read all the books so far with extreme satisfaction and this was no exception. This has action, drama, deadly secrets and murder. The heroine must face the past and present. No easy feat. Amidst all the adventure there is a budding romance. It is very touching and very emotional. The hero finds himself feeling things he never thought he would ever experience. The continuing stories from the other books flowed nicely into this one. There is the main plot - Romance and several subplots. There are plenty of emotions to go around and it is easy to identify with the characters who display them. I am really looking forward to the next book in the series. This is a must read and I highly recommend it.
It's a great story. From the start, I loved the character of Vita. She was quirky and lovable and Remy was surprisingly sensitive (although it wasn’t that surprising after the last book). The development of their relationship was wonderful, but then it took a turn, of course. And although I assured myself there would be a happy ending, I actually found myself feeling nervous and sick at a certain point because I could not see how it would happen and the heartbreak they were both feeling was overwhelming. As it got closer to the end, I felt certain they would not be able to resolve every issue by the conclusion of this book, and unfortunately, I was right. Remy and Vita are happy, but there's still a lot of turmoil ahead which I am hoping Ms. Wilson will be resolving shortly.
Deborah Wilson's latest read is about Lord Remy Astger and Lady Vita Castella. We've met Remy many times in previous books and I always knew there was more to him than what was revealed. Vita is "assigned" to him and that's when things get interesting. He and Vita spend an evening, getting to know each other, and both realize they're what the other has been looking for. But, of course, with all true love, there are obstacles and they just don't see their way through them.
This is another wonderful story told by one of my favorite historical romance authors. Deborah Wilson is an amazing story teller, wrapping the story around your heart with her words.
I just love this series, and this story is no different. This is General Astger story. Vita is extraordinary and quite different from most women. She has been taught not to be herself. She is not like other ladies of the ton and this is what Remy sees. She is bright, intelligent, witty, chatty and childlike. She dares much trying to find her mother, but only arouses the Duke of Van Dero's suspicions. He assigns Remy to scare Vita from the Duke. Only Vita's curiosity and her audaciousness to find Lord Dunn (Remy in disguise) cause a serious chaos to arise against Vita and the Duke of Van Dero. This is a great plot and a wonderful story.
Vita is a young lady on a mission. She has had to pretend for a long time in order to protect her life but due to what she knows no one believes her tale of murder.
Thoroughly enjoyed General Astger story. His character has been developing from the beginning and it did not disappoint in his own story.
The web woven around these characters had so many potential story lines I wondered which direction the author was going to take. Each book has just gotten better with the telling and I can't wait for the next one.
Vita is snooping around The Duke of Van Dero’s secrets—putting herself in grave danger with this master of vengeance! Rather than confront her, Duke sends one of his battle-scarred and battle-hardened soldiers on a mission to frighten Vita from continuing her endeavors. Rather than frighten her, Vita finds herself falling for the man despite his frightful face! It is a riotous journey to their HEA, in which Vita’s life is endangered time and again. Another riveting story in this original series!
This is the story of Remy & Vita, with characters from previous books also. I love the ongoing journey I'm taking with these characters. The action, suspense, mystery and love are plentiful. The way the book is written makes it easy to understand. It's a great story line and a great plot. It holds your attention from beginning to end. I couldn't put this book down once I started it. I highly recommend this book. I can't wait for the next book, to see who it is written about.
Falling in love and know that, that person is your one and only is the best thing in life. Though sometimes our sense of loyalty and doing right by others can overdrive our need to put our happiness first. This story reminded me that in order to be truly happy you have to put you and love first. This was such a great read that I devoured the story quickly.
I love 💕 this series, and this episode did not fail! I am so happy that General Astger got his own happy start! This book can easily be read as a stand alone story, but you get so much more when you know all the backstories and characters. For any who are wondering, Deborah Wilson writes this series as a pretty clean read. You feel the passion and attraction without graphic details. Kissing and feelings are definitely a part, but what happens in private stays private.
I have enjoyed the Valiant Love series since the first book. Deborah Wilson manages to give us characters that are known for their toughness and lets us see their softer side, especially when it comes to their special lady. It is a good question whether Vita or Oliver was leading the other on a merry chase. I love the surprise ending and look forward to seeing more details.
A fantastic story that you will love... New surprises in these wonderful series... A new chapter with new insight in the past of different characters.... A young lady with some flaws... and a strong mind... A general... that will do anything for her.... A strong love... A new/old enemies... A book for all that love Regency and mystery...
I thought this was a interacting delightful read. It has some drama, twists and turns and mystery. I truly enjoyed reading about the characters. It is well written. I enjoyed the storyline. I read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are of my own.
This series just gets better and better this book I just could not put down it was a brilliant piece of writing I was still reading at 1am it had a everything in it humour sex and action and the heroin kept Remy on his toes well worth a read well done
This series is my favorite! Please take the time to read A Perfect Lady, you will be hooked and will not be disappointed! Impatiently waiting for the next book in the series.
I have been reading Deborah's books for awhile and she hasn't let me down yet! Vita and Remy have a meeting that is the perfect opening for their tale. Following their romance with all the mystery and pitfalls, kept me up until I finished it!
This story was great. Lots of action and drama. It was so exciting and I laugh and cried through this book. But I didn’t want it to stop there. With her Mom and then Belle and well everything else. This one was hard to put down even for a minute. Can’t wait till the next book comes out.
Another great historical romance. There are so many twists and turns with this love affair. Will she marry her love or not, the ending on Vita’s part was happy but I look forward to the next book to see what happens to Belle. There are definitely some terrible people in the world of this series.
Vita and Remy both have an agenda. They both find more than they thought possible. How will they deal with all the obstacles in their way? Another great story in this lineup. I know I will morn when it is over.
