Glow Worms is an electrifying story of a young orphan, Jack, who lives with his Aunt, Uncle and a faithful four-legged friend in a seemingly peaceful Cornish village. When Jack drops his phone down a well and tries to retrieve it with his friend Ryan, the boys discover a mysterious creature with a green glow emerging from the brickwork. The story accelerates as the boys join forces with a winged alien to fight the terrible beast. What follows is a thrilling adventure of other-worldly creatures, space-ships, sea-ships, dazzling entities and unknown energies.
Martin Berry is the author of The Sapphire Crystal series and Glow Worms.
Before becoming a writer he worked as an electronic engineer, designing and building prototype scientific research equipment. He grew up in the Thames Valley and now lives in Wiltshire with his wife, and dog Poppy who can often be found sitting under the table while he is writing, waiting patiently for her next ‘walkies’.
When not walking the dog, Martin enjoys playing tennis, reading and learning to play the guitar.
Thus is a most intriguing and enjoyable story, with great characters and wonderful descriptive and storyline. As an adult reading the book, I can appreciate the way the storyline is put together, which has the reader wanting to know what will happen next. Also, the lovely descriptive side of things. As a child, I would be sitting with bated breathe, my mind going ten to a dozen wondering how this will work out. I know my 10 year old and 7 year old grandchildren will love reading this, and it will also appeal to older ones, too. I, as an adult, thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. My thanks goes to the net gallery for the advanced copy. This is my honest and unbiased review.
I read this book in a day, which is testament to how engrossed in the story I got. The main character, Jack, embarks on an adventure involving glowing worms, flying extra-terrestrials and scary monsters, and the story all starts when Jack drops his mobile phone in the well in his auntie and uncle's back garden. I found this YA novel to be a delightful, adventurous romp, and I particularly liked Jack's uncle - the scatty but innovative and appealing inventor. I highly recommend this book; it’s a great read for your kids (and you).
Jack lives with his aunt and uncle. One day he drops his mobile phone down a well and in retrieving it notices green moving lights. With his friend he endeavours to find out what is happening and becomes involved in saving the world from a deadly enemy. A good read for boys. I received this book for free and the views expressed in it are my own.
What a page-turner! Jack, Ryan, and even the faithful dog felt real to me, and the glowing creature in the well hooked me instantly. The story just kept growing bigger, with spaceships, sea ships, and dazzling entities. A truly original adventure that both kids and adults can enjoy
