Stranded is book one in the brand new series, In Midsummer, by Jessica Frances. This is a M/M romantic mystery and I am completely blown away. I’ve read all of Jessica’s books and I think this is her best yet! I just loved everything about it.
Conner Sherwood is a thirty year old man living in Chicago when he had to finally admit that he wasn’t happy. That his life was lacking something. One thing he was good at and he really enjoyed was posting on his social networks. He had gained a huge following. Conner decided that he could go on the road, see America, and post videos and pictures of his travels, sharing his experiences with everyone. Only the used car he bought for the trip didn’t last long, and he found himself stranded in the tiny town of Midsummer. Things looked pretty bleak, until he saw the hot sheriff standing across the street. Maybe this town wasn’t so bad after all.
Sheriff Rocky Green is a thirty five year old single dad. He’s been seriously hurt and no longer believes in love. Between his job and his daughter, he has nothing left to give. Rocky doesn’t hide the fact that he wants Conner. But he’s clear that it’s just casual, nothing more. It will never be anything more.
The quiet life in Midsummer is about to get a bit of a shake up when a dead body is discovered. And guess who the only suspect is?! Conner wanted a little excitement in his life. Well, he has it now! First he meets the hottest man he has ever known, then he’s prime suspect in a murder.
“I wonder how I got so lucky to have him, even if I can never be lucky enough to keep him.”
First, I want to declare my undying love for Rocky. My first impression of him is that he is a bit of a …., well, you get the picture. But then you get to know him. He is a gruff, bossy, rough around the edges, sexy man. But underneath that tough exterior is a soft, squishy teddy bear. The entire book is told from Conner’s point of view so we are left wondering what is going on in that head of his with all those soulful looks.
This book has it all, two fantastic men who you can’t help but love, an adorable little girl, a secondary character, Love Fuller, who is adorable, mystery, and plenty of steam. The chemistry between Conner and Rocky burns up the pages. Are you intrigued yet? I hope so. The mystery in this book comes to a complete resolution. But, Conner and Rocky’s story will continue in the next book, Separated, which will be told from Rocky’s point of view. I can’t wait to see what he’s been thinking.

Stranded narrates the story of Conner Sherwood who got himself stranded in this little town called Midsummer. Things started to get interesting when he met the town sheriff Rocky Green, the perfect matchmaker Love Fuller, and this famous celebrity. Everything is going fine until he stumbled upon a dead body.
When I read mm romances, I always set my expectations really low. I just want a good plot, interesting characters, some sexy times, and some drama. The book checked all these points for me. The plot of the story was easy to get invested into. Conner and Rocky were, personally, layered characters. I love the conflicts not only with each other but also within themselves. The sexy times were quite short but I'll take it. I hope in the next one there'll be more!
Not a fan of the hook up culture in books and in real life. Honestly, I don't get it. With that being said, I won't comment much further on that until I have a complete understanding about it.
Lastly, I'm not the biggest fan of the mystery/thriller aspect of this book. Its presence and how it was resolved felt shaky to me. It felt like it was tied up in a good little bow and that's it. I wouldn't say I was disappointed for I wasn't really expecting anything from it. But the mystery looks promising for the next one for this book ended with a bang!

Stranded is my first book by this author and I REALLY liked it. I can already tell this series is going to be one that I thoroughly enjoy and will be thinking about after I am finished.
This book is a romantic “who done it” and even though I figured it out before the end, it was still a really interesting journey.
Conner Sherwood is a social media influencer. He loves to post videos of his day to day life & he seems to have a good following. He is 30 years old and is in a bit of a life rut so he decides to venture out of the big city life and travel America posting his video travels. Early on his vehicle breaks down in the small town of Midsummer and it seems as if his adventures are really going to take off and not necessarily in a good way.
Conner meets some great people and some terrible people but that is what makes this book so interesting. It consumed me from start to finish and I liked it so much I immediately started the second book in the series. I will say that it is only from Conner’s POV and I normally like at least a dual POV, but since I have already started the next book I am now getting Rocky’s POV for the continuing storyline.

First before I go into this -- I loved the story and looking forward to books 2 and 3.
With that said...
My book friends, Carol and Lori, are on notice. Yes, I'm one of these impatient weird readers that if I really like a book, I want to just binge on the duet/trilogy/series. They had lack of foresight that I'd enjoy this so so much, and now pouting in the corner. I know book 2 comes out in July get over yourself. But damnit, it's so hard to wait.
Jessica Frances is a 'new to me' author. I've seen her book, read the blurbs and been intrigued. But obviously a shiny new book from a known author dangles in front of me, and I move on. But Carol was dangling STRANDED so hard in front of my face, it was hard to see anything else. Being in a 'mood' - I needed something fun. Something that I could read in an evening and enjoy with glee.
Conner is adorbs. I wanted to be besties with. The fact he was stranded but yet bounced back from the bad karma, makes you love him. Rocky - come arrest me. Love was the perfect new bestie and her lack of personal space was perfect foil to Conner's new responsible adult. These characters were quirky, fun and you just wanted to be there in this quaint small-town.
Ms Frances gave readers a fun fish-out-of-water add in a murder mystery to give an awesome entertaining story. Devoured in hours and loved it. Until the end. WHAT IS THIS NONSENSE? (aimed at Lori and Carol). Okay so the murder mystery wraps up but it's not over. We didn't get the HEA we want. Yes, you'll be like me cheering the heroes get the connection - just not yet. It is however a HFN because Conner is gets his happy about himself and his choices. For sure, when you have a sexy, Hollywood actor who wants to date you and buy you shoes!
Okay now, now don't panic because I used cliffhanger. I did that as a gentle warning unlike my 'friends'. You are going to love these characters and well.. not together yet. HOWEVER, I'm supercited for book 2 because 1) It's Rocky's POV 2) Rocky will need a major grand gesture 3) Rocky is a growly alpha hero and they do grand gestures well. And 4) It's Rocky's POV.
I can tell this will be a three-part story I am going to love to revisit time and time again.
Recommendation: Buy It

What first attracted me to read this story was the mystery/suspense that was laid out in the blurb. Well, now I’m hooked and invested in this world and these guys and just all of it. I am very intrigued by the storytelling skills behind this author. I especially loved how the story unfold but yet will continue … are you intrigued yet? HA, you should be!
The town is charming! Rocky and Connor are very compatible ;) I mean the chemistry was perfection. I loved the ease of language used also. There are a lot of humorous plot points along with some very steamy ones and suspenseful ones. I especially liked the plot. If I was to name my favorite aspect of this story it would hands down be the plot. I don’t want to mislead anyone into thinking this story ends in any kind of cliffhanger situation, because it doesn’t. It’s just not over yet lol The next story/book will continue with Rocky and Connor being the lead characters but the suspense will be brand new … so stay tuned because now I’m invested in all of this and will read this series for as long as the author writes it!

I keep getting sucked into Small Town Romance blurbs without much success. This book was not good. I should have DNF'd it. I kept telling myself to just throw in the towel but I just kept going. The series continues with the same couple so I really had wanted this to be a success but no, this was a huge failure for me.
This was one big cliché. No kidding, think of every single thing you have ever read in a MM romance and know for sure it was included in this book. EVERY SINGLE THING. I feel like the author had a list of what they wanted the guys to do and be like and then wrote the story around it.
The guys weren't likeable. The entire setup seemed forced. The contradictions were huge. The town wasn't sweet. I don't know.
I read this as fast as I could and finished it in one day.
This also ends completely unresolved and heading toward a love triangle of some sort.
UGH, UGH, UGH.

Jessica Frances' Stranded is a great romance mixed with a gripping mystery. My first time reading this author, I am pleased to have discovered this series.
First there is the romance. Connor is stuck in a small town as his car breaks down. His short stay leads to love as he hooks up with the local sheriff. Rocky is a fun character. He's openly gay, raising his daughter, and never has repeat partners. Until Connor.
I definitely enjoy Connor and Rocky together. Their journey is interesting and compelling. And it definitely isn't finished yet. Ugh. I am dying to know what happens throughout the series. Basically, it you hate cliffhangers, you might want to wait on this one.
Then there's the murder mystery, which leads to some interesting discoveries. Of course, Connor's a suspect and Rocky needs to prove him innocent.
This story involves a hot first kiss, a You Tube channel, and a good amount of sexual tension. It includes some fabulous secondary characters who add immensely to the storyline. In addition, the town itself is intriguing, with it's Hollywood connection and it's movie stars.
Told in first person pov, the character voice is well done, making Connor lovable from the start. Connor's voice is full of information as well as humor.
In the end, Stranded is an enjoyable read. It ends with a cliffhanger and now I am excited to see what happens next in this Jessica Frances' series. I definitely recommend this book.

Stranded is book 1 in the ‘In Midsummer’ series, a MM story that starts off with a broken-down car and a night they both won’t forget.
Conner is setting out on the road trip of a lifetime, armed with his phone and social media all his followers are part of the journey. Rocky is the towns sheriff, single Dad and does not make it a habit to have hook ups in town, but there is something different about Conner and he needs to protect the most important person in his life, his daughter. Conner is left stranded and no where to stay he finds himself with a new friend that lands him in situation’s out of his control. When there is a murder in their sleepy town Connor is their number 1 suspect; can he prove his innocence and still get the guy?
I personally enjoyed this book, there were certainly times when I wanted to shake Rocky and tell him to get it together but I am now left hanging for book 2!

Murders and movie stars and car-jackings, oh my!
I absolutely loved this! After reading the blurb, I knew I needed to read this story. And I’m so glad I did!!
Conner, who is a social media star, gets stranded in the charming, small town of Midsummer when his car breaks down. Since the one town mechanic won’t be open for a few days, he needs to find somewhere to stay and something to do.
Deciding to kill some time, Conner heads to the local bar. There he notices the sexiest man he’s ever seen, even though he wears a scowl. When the hottie sits next to him at the bar and propositions him, he just can’t resist. After a fun romp in the sheets, and then a rude, unwanted boot outta those sheets just a short time later, Conner is on his way.
He soon finds out that Mr. Rude-Yet-The-Best-Sex-of-His-Life is the town sheriff. Because Sheriff Grumpy Pants (aka Rocky Green) shows up just in time to save him from a car-jacking later that evening.
Awkward conversation follows.
And some serious sexual tension, too.
Conner wants more. Rocky does not.
Rocky is so bossy and growly and scowly...yet protective and sexy AF. He’s got a huge heart in there somewhere, and I cannot wait until it is exposed and those icy walls come crumbling down.
Every encounter between Conner & Rocky usually had me smiling BIG. And swooning. And gripping my kindle just a little bit tighter. I loved these two when they were together! The tension, the snark, the KISSES.
The feels were plentiful throughout this story. From the heart-warming moments that gave me warm fuzzies, to the frustration caused by certain characters, to the nail-biting suspenseful scenes e.g. the murder…I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. This well-written story had everything, and that everything kept me captivated.
Not only is this story highly enjoyable and full of shenanigans, it had other characters I fell for immediately. Love Fuller, yes that’s her name, was adorable and I wanted to be her BFF. She is one of those people you want and need in your life. I liked her immediately. She befriended Conner without a shy bone in her body. Their friendship was fun and their witty banter made me chuckle numerous times. Also, I need to mention Rocky’s daughter. She is easily lovable and it was no surprise she stole a little piece of my heart.
Stranded was more than just a romance story. To me, it was like a dramedy that played out like a soap opera right in front of my eyes. Very entertaining as there was always something happening, whether it be car-jackings, hot kisses, or sneaky, chatty news reporters on a mission. When I wasn’t reading, I was constantly thinking about it, eager to get back to it. I loved everything about it. A solid read from beginning to end.
At the end of this book, the mystery part is solved, but the relationship between Conner & Rocky is not complete and will continue in the other books. The next book is Rocky’s POV and I cannot wait to be inside his sexy head!
I absolutely loved this! After reading the blurb, I knew I needed to read this story. And I’m so glad I did!!
Conner, who is a social media star, gets stranded in the charming, small town of Midsummer when his car breaks down. Since the one town mechanic won’t be open for a few days, he needs to find somewhere to stay and something to do.
Deciding to kill some time, Conner heads to the local bar. There he notices the sexiest man he’s ever seen, even though he wears a scowl. When the hottie sits next to him at the bar and propositions him, he just can’t resist. After a fun romp in the sheets, and then a rude, unwanted boot outta those sheets just a short time later, Conner is on his way.
He soon finds out that Mr. Rude-Yet-The-Best-Sex-of-His-Life is the town sheriff. Because Sheriff Grumpy Pants (aka Rocky Green) shows up just in time to save him from a car-jacking later that evening.
Awkward conversation follows.
And some serious sexual tension, too.
Conner wants more. Rocky does not.
Rocky is so bossy and growly and scowly...yet protective and sexy AF. He’s got a huge heart in there somewhere, and I cannot wait until it is exposed and those icy walls come crumbling down.
Every encounter between Conner & Rocky usually had me smiling BIG. And swooning. And gripping my kindle just a little bit tighter. I loved these two when they were together! The tension, the snark, the KISSES.
The feels were plentiful throughout this story. From the heart-warming moments that gave me warm fuzzies, to the frustration caused by certain characters, to the nail-biting suspenseful scenes e.g. the murder…I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. This well-written story had everything, and that everything kept me captivated.
Not only is this story highly enjoyable and full of shenanigans, it had other characters I fell for immediately. Love Fuller, yes that’s her name, was adorable and I wanted to be her BFF. She is one of those people you want and need in your life. I liked her immediately. She befriended Conner without a shy bone in her body. Their friendship was fun and their witty banter made me chuckle numerous times. Also, I need to mention Rocky’s daughter. She is easily lovable and it was no surprise she stole a little piece of my heart.
Stranded was more than just a romance story. To me, it was like a dramedy that played out like a soap opera right in front of my eyes. Stranded is the first in the In Midsummer series, but does have a contained story so you can read it as a standalone, I think. I wouldn’t say the same for the other two books though. I enjoyed certain aspects of Stranded, but an annoying secondary character and a sloppy murder mystery took away some of the shine.
Conner and Rocky are a relatively fun couple. They have some hot sex and a lot of misunderstandings, but they work well together and they felt believable. Neither have the depth that I usually like and, as a reader, I would have preferred a more complex evolution of their relationship, but there’s enough to enjoy. Their chemistry is one of Stranded’s strong points.

Stranded is packed full of mystery and drama. Whew! Jessica Frances takes us on a whirlwind on Connor’s first unintended stop on his road trip of exploration. Frances puts Conner’s life on a tilt-a-whirl and let me tell you the ride is awesome!
There are multiple mysteries. Frances creates an oddball assortment of secondary characters, some you already know are going to be no good. Then there is Love and she is everything her name is. Frances does have a unique choice for names and it makes you think if there is something more behind it.
I will say that Frances addresses homophobia quite a few times in this story. Along with other types of bullying for varying reasons because let’s face it bullies do not really need a reason for the person they pick on. None of these issues are solved in this book and some are not addressed yet, I have to assume they will be addressed in a later book so I am interested in how Frances will address it.
Frances has also created great chemistry between Rocky and Connor. Two men who are different places in life and are not heading in the same direction. BUT...damn they cannot keep their hands off each other.
I cannot wait to see what happens next….

The only thing I didn’t like about this book was that there wasn’t enough of it. I enjoyed the contrasts in so many places. A small town is drawing business in through the use of social media. The personality from the social media is drawn to the emotionally closed off sheriff of said small town. There’s also the effect the two men have on each other when they realize that there’s something to be said for the other’s lifestyle.
Then there’s River. That little girl charms everyone except her classmates. She’s a big part of Conner’s growing affection for small town life.
I’m glad Midsummer #2 is ready and waiting for me to dive back in!

When Conner's car breaks down in the tiny town of Midsummer, it not only gives him the hottest encounter of his life, followed quickly by one serious diss, but it also ends up giving him a new sense of home and a new bestie in the irrepresible Love.
Ooooh I loved Stranded!! The only downside is that now I want more and I have no idea when book 2 will be out. Conner is an absolute sweetheart who deserves all the good things. Rocky? Well, I admit to being a tad miffed at him, still, even though I'm done reading the first installment. But I have to hold onto hope that Jessica will make Rocky redeem himself, and since the second installment is written in his POV, it should be good to see what he thinks, rather than only getting Conner's perspective as Stranded gives us. These two have serious chemistry, and if Rocky can just take his head out of his ass and let himself be happy with Conner, they could have something beautiful. And I will be reading along as they hopefully achieve that happiness!

The two are seemingly bound to cross paths and this leads to some fiery yet hot-hot scenes. Will Conner find himself in this sleepy yet picturesque town or will misfortune be his downfall.

Part 1
This is my first read by this author and I was happy with it. I have no regrets with the time I spent reading this story. I tend to stick to solid HEA, even HFN endings, avoiding fade to black and cliffhangers. This one kinda falls between the last 2. There is more to come, but the story is as a good pause point.
I really liked Connor. He was a well rounded character that changed and molded over the course of the story. His friendship with Love was great. She was snarky but not over the top. I felt Rocky was a little flat, but it’s a product of his gruff silence and lack of POV in this story. I have high hopes when he’s our POV on part 2. Connor held his ground and knew what he could and couldn’t accept. High praise and applause for this. I hate when the character knows it won’t work for them and they do it anyway.
I cannot wait for Part 2 and really want it now.

Jessica Frances is new to me and I have to say that I am dying for the next book in this series.
Conner cracked me up on multiple occasions and I love how he seems so easygoing. Midsummer is so intriguing to me from the hottie of a Sheriff that caught Conner's eye to his new found friend Love. I NEED to know what is going to happen. I have theories but there have already been things happen that I didn't see coming and I can't wait to find out what does or does not happen between Conner and Rocky.

This book was hard to like. Every single person in this books is either an asshole or overly noisy. Nothing in between. Nothing. And it did not work for me. I was probably scowling while reading for half of the book.

Such a fun, romantic read from Jessica! I fell in love with Conner! Not so much with Rocky, though he was sexy. Filled with crime and mystery, there are also so many more aspects and surprises that will keep you on edge throughout this book. The best group of characters!

YouTuber and vlogger Conner Sherwood is having a not so mid-life, “mid-life” crisis after turning thirty. He has found fame on the internet that has allowed him to pack up his life and hit the road to find adventure and hopefully himself in the process, while also vlogging his experience for his fans.
On day four of his road trip, his car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, leaving him stranded on the streets of what seems to be a small ghost town. Dirty, tired, and hungry, Conner is walking the deserted streets looking for a hotel when he comes across the local bar and the sexiest, most handsome man he has ever laid eyes on. His night suddenly gets better when Mr. Handsome takes him home for the most mind-blowing sex he has ever had. But true to the bad luck that stranded him in Midsummer, things go from bad to worse, before he can even pull up his pants. Sadly, Conner’s car troubles are just the beginning of an adventure that will have him targeted as the prime suspect in a local murder while also challenging him to put his heart, self-worth, and needs first for the first time in his life. Will he be able to walk away if he can’t have it all?
The town of Midsummer is a quiet sleepy town whose favorite pastime is gossip about its drop-dead gorgeous sheriff, and most importantly, his love life or lack thereof. So, when Conner catches his eye, the town’s rumor mill goes into overdrive.
Sheriff Rocky Green is focused on serving the town he loves, being a single father, and making sure his gay lifestyle does not come between him and the job. He has rules that make sure no one gets close to the life he’s built or his heart, until he sees Conner, that is. One night ends up challenging the rules that have been the lawman’s bible. Will he break his own rules to have another taste of the young firecracker, whose presence may just be the town’s saving grace? What will he be willing to do when Conner is accused of a murder Rocky is sure he didn’t commit? And most importantly, how will he fight his electric attraction to the man, who has already worked his way under Rocky’s skin?
I really enjoyed this story. Conner, from the very start, is unapologetically himself. His snarky banter with just about everyone he meets, had me laughing out loud several times. Conner’s unfiltered nature is what seems to endear him to those he meets. Despite how hard life is knocking him around, Conner tries to laugh and smile, wanting to bring his fanbase positive, real content. I think it is interesting that while Conner’s character is looking for himself, he never wavers from being true to himself. His fans all subscribe because Conner is real, which includes a local young woman named Love, that helps him in his time of need and becomes his first friend in town.
Rocky has been through it, his life has been a massive middle finger of hurt, heartache, and loss. Jessica Frances writes the sheriff’s character in such a way that you can truly see and feel the turmoil and struggle the man is feeling. It is almost palpable how much he is fighting against himself every time he is around Conner. The author does a great job of making the reader feel the physical and mental connection between Conner and Rocky while also showcasing the evolution of friendship between Conner and Love.
The more profound implications of the texts deal with loss and grief for family lost to death and life. Homophobia, both internal and external, show the sad struggle, heartbreak, and cost of being completely who you are, while also embracing acceptance, love, and friendship when it does arise. Themes of self-confidence and self-worth, homophobia, sexuality, strong sexual interactions, assault and attempted assault, and murder are woven through this story with balance and clarity.
While yes, I adore this story, it was not perfect, but, for me, those imperfections are easily overlooked by all the positives. The murder mystery, again for me, was not really a mystery. I knew who the killer was almost immediately. I tend to be able to always figure out the bad guy right away, so this could just be me. I think my most significant disconnect here may also be just a big case of preference. The intensity that burns between Conner and Rocky is off the charts, and Frances does a fantastic job of writing that chemistry until it gets to the sex scenes that seem, to me, to fizzle instead of sizzle. Is the sex hot? Sure, but based on their attraction and the electricity that pulses between them, the encounters on page both times seem way too tame; and lack the fire and personal connection you know they are feeling. You know this because their kisses on the page are hot AF, affecting every ounce of each man, but the sex scenes seem almost robotic and bland in comparison. I’m not talking about the actual act, but the lead-up. That much attraction makes you crazy and a lot more handsy and needy than is shown, creating a contradiction between what we see and feel brewing between them in every other second. I don’t know, it just made me disconnect a little from their chemistry, both times, not running harmoniously with all their other interactions.
In the end, the main players of this story are funny, heartfelt, and real, as are the themes that are challenged. I highly recommend, that ending though, didn’t see it coming.

Jessica Frances is a new-to-me author and I asked to review this book on a whim, which thankfully paid off big time.
Conner is a vlogger and YouTuber, who decides to make a trip across the country to discover himself and decide what he wants to do with his life now that he's turned 30. As luck (or maybe fate) has it, his car breaks down 4 days into his trip in a little town called Midsummer in Arkansas and there he meets a handsome man with whom he has the hottest encounter with, only to be thrown out by him just after it ends. Conner would've left then if he'd been able, but with having to wait for the mechanic to repair his car, he has to stay in the quaint little town a few more days. Fortunately for him, he meets Love Fuller, reporter extraordinaire, who invites him to stay with her and keeps trying to matchmake him with the town's Sheriff (aka the jerk who threw him out of his house). Conner begins to see the town's appeal the longer he remains, and Rocky, the Sheriff, starts to thaw towards him, when suddenly Conner becomes the prime suspect in a murder investigation.
Okay, so this book took me completely by surprise. First of all, I loved Conner, he was so down-to-earth and funny. He was also a bit of a pushover for Rocky, too, which I didn't love quite as much, but I'll get back to that in a sec. I liked Rocky, sometimes. He was so gruff and he was a twat to Conner so many times, that it took me longer to warm up to him. I got that he was the town's Sheriff and River's dad and that those were his priorities, but the way he went about it just rubbed me the wrong way. Plus, the fact that Conner kept going back to him after how Rocky treated him just made me want to shake some sense into Conner. Yes, they were hot together and had chemistry, but I felt Conner deserved so much more and I was happy he seemed to understand that for himself near the end of this first book.
There were great secondary characters in this book. Love Fuller was amazing and I just adored every single scene she was together with Conner. It was so much fun to see them interact! And River, Rocky's daughter, was so cute, too! Of course, there were also not so nice characters, like Deputy Dickh*ad, LOL, who I'm sure will keep trying to drive a wedge between our heroes.
This book was so much fun to read! I couldn't put it down until I finished it and even though it ends in a cliffhanger, I'm consoling myself with the fact that the next book comes out next month and it can't come fast enough. Super recommendable!

This was a cute romantic suspense that kept me interested the whole way. One of the MCs is a small-town sheriff, and as the author notes in the beginning of this book, a bit of suspended belief is needed.
It’s set in a small town in Arkansas. Connor, attempting to road trip for a couple months to shake his life up a bit, breaks down on a Friday night near this town. With no mechanic available until the following Monday, he has no choice but to stay. By Monday, his life has definitely been shook up.

The mystery arc was interesting and resolved by the book’s end. The romance ended on a cliffhanger. With Rocky still not wanting to commit to anything serious-and a cute celebrity moving in on Connor. Will this spell major jealousy in book 2? I think it will.
I would have liked to have had more physical descriptions of the characters, so they did seem a bit shallow. There were some examples of misplaced modifiers early on that brought me out of the story a bit. Overall, it’s a worthy and fun read for fans of romantic suspense who don’t mind cliffhangers.
This was a cute romantic suspense that kept me interested the whole way. One of the MCs is a small-town sheriff, and as the author notes in the beginning of this book, a bit of suspended belief is needed.
It’s set in a small town in Arkansas. Connor, attempting to road trip for a couple months to shake his life up a bit, breaks down on a Friday night near this town. With no mechanic available until the following Monday, he has no choice but to stay. By Monday, his life has definitely been shook up.

This is honestly one of the best MM Romance books I've read in a good while. I totally LOVE the two romantic leads Conner and Rocky. Conner is a witty social media influencer who finds himself stranded in Midsummer but falls in loves with the towns charms. He has a heart of gold but has a hard time standing up for himself. Rocky is the town sheriff, he's surly and rude but a teddy bear to those he cares about.
I wanna start with talking about Rocky. He's an ass, but I love him. It's always risky for an author to write an asshole main romantic lead as it's risking the character being too dislikeable. She did a perfect job with Rocky though, as appalled as you may be by his behavior at times, you can't help but like the surly single dad who's more caring than he wants to be. Then there's Connor, I love seeing his character progression throughout the book. He begins as a bit vapid, going on an instagrammable road trip across country with no real goals or planning. He's also a bit of a push-over and let's people treat him bad. He turns his nose up at Midsummer at the beginning, but not only do you see his personal growth and maturity throughout the novel, I love watching him get more and more comfortable standing up for himself.
This novel has humor without being cheesy, angst without over the top melodrama, suspense with realism, a creative mystery plot, and wonderfully written (non-cliche) secondary characters such as the quirky and exuberant reporter Love Fuller and Rocky's daughter River (who genuinely reads like a 10 year and not some wise oracle who is mature beyond her years).
My only complaint about this book as that I have to wait till July for Book 2!

I liked this very much. It started a bit slow for me because Conner tends to ramble a lot and I m the type of reader who enjoys dialog not monolog but the characters get to you pretty fast. Their sexy times were so freaking sexy. I liked their push and pull bc I can understand both points of view. I m a lot like Conner I don t do flings but I also understand Rocky trying to protect his daughter from heartache. He ended up hurting Conner a few times with his attitude but he is such a cool character you can t stay mad at him especially when he apologizes so well. I love the set up with Harry, some jelousy is exactly what Rocky needs to get his head out of his ass. His daughter loving Conner adds another complication to his "I don t do relationships" mantra. I didn t realize this will be a series and I m delighted to learn there are more books with these boys but now I have to wait and that just sucks.

This was a fun and entertaining read and oh man, I need the next book like right now! This is a fantastic mix of romance and mystery and I am definitely invested in this series already! Rocky and Conner are such great characters, and their story just has me hooked!
Conner is a social media influencer and has decided he needs some change and embarks on road trip. Although shortly into his trip his car breaks down and he ends up stuck in small town, Midsummer. This town is not at all what he expects, especially when his new friend Love shows him around and informs him that many movies and TV shows are filmed there. He also doesn’t expect to be hooking up with the super hot sheriff Rocky or to end up as a murder suspect!
This book really does have it all, it’s funny and entertaining while also having some mystery and suspense added in. Rocky kind of breaks my heart, clearly feeling something for Conner but he’s adamant that he doesn’t do relationships. Conner is looking for more, even if he doesn’t really know where his life is going, he wants to be more than a hook-up. I am so rooting for these two and really can’t wait for the next book. So much is left up in the air and I love it, but I NEED MORE! This is definitely a highly recommended read from me!

A mystery / romance series starter
3.50~ maybe upwards till 3.75
This title's the series starter in a MM Contemporary Mystery Romance story by a new-to-me name. It's not a standalone and there's no HEA in this title. You could call the ending a cliffhanger.
This falls into which I kind of both do like and then also not so much. I do like the characters for the most part as well as the plot, too. It's just that I don't really fancy the writing style all that much. It was difficult to get it read all the way through. Many many times I found myself scrolling through. The style of writing didn't hold my interest as much as the plot did. The plot was interesting. Love was a bit too much, and a bit too much in it, the way she kept marching the other mc around. I'm in between choices of 1 clicking more or not. I'd love to know how they'll end up together - hey, romance ... But very unsure if I've energy to go through a second one like this.

I liked this book a lot and the only thing missing to become one of my favourite it was the dual POV.
Small town romance was never so good to me. This quiet town was way to peaceful and it was in need for someone as unselfconscious as Conner! After he accidentally land in Midsummer some unexpectedly events happen, delaying his planned road trip. He hooked up with the local sheriff, he made an amazing best friend, he is a suspect and a detective in a murderer investigation... Let's just say the time he spent in the small town can't be described as monotonous.
