Luther is the most beautiful of my captors. Still I hate him more than the others. I hate him so much that the darkness inside me comes alive.
When I started university and moved out of my foster parents’ home, I hoped everything would change. That the nightmares, the visions, the voices would stop, but they got worse.
Then three of the most dangerously stunning fae crashed into my life. Intoxicating eyes. Devilish lips. Dangerous intentions.
They insist I belong with them in the Wandering Realm. A place where love is lost, where war is brewing between two realms, and where the once powerful royals are being hunted down and slaughtered.
I’m their savior they say, but there are no saviors amid monsters. These princes who are tasked to keep me safe are keeping secrets of their own. Secrets that will kill me.
So, how am I meant to rid the realm of evil when I feel the dark spreading through my veins?
Scorching hot first book in the brand new ‘WINTER'S THORN’ Trilogy.
Mila Young tackles everything with the zeal and bravado of the fairytale heroes she grew up reading about. She slays monsters, real and imaginary, like there's no tomorrow. By day she rocks a keyboard as a marketing extraordinaire. At night she battles with her mighty pen-sword, creating fairytale retellings, and sexy ever after tales.
"Luther is the most beautiful of my captors. Still I hate him more than the others. I hate him so much that the darkness inside me comes alive."
02-06: If you're like me, there's plenty of steamy conflict in the synopsis of Mila Young's 'To Seduce a Fae,' to grab your attention. Ironically, though this is listed as the first title in the 'Winter's Thorn' series, the e-book still arrived with an attached download link for a prequel called, 'To Catch a Fae.' Go figure.
I did, of course, go download it right away. The covers are both gorgeous and the story sounded like it was going to be a pretty fun fantasy novel with a lot of beautiful fae heat to roll around in. Though, even as I was just beginning this book, I was pretty certain I'd never read that first one.
Young is one of those author's who.. and I'm seeing a lot of them lately.. write stories more like they're in a role-playing chatroom than putting down words for a novel. I don't know when that became the thing. I honestly feel like they don't know any better.. like this is just how their brains process storytelling.. but it annoys the hell out of me.
Instead of 'she laughs,' we get 'she's laughing'.. which makes me feel like I'm sitting beside the narrator.. but they think I don't understand what's happening. The rest of that sentence becomes, "She's laughing, then refocuses on me." Not, "She laughs, then refocuses on me." Using two different approaches in the same sentence always sends me into a silent reader rage. I can't even explain it.
I know it sounds like I'm nit-picking, but try saying that to someone in conversation and see how it feels. Now, try spending all day only speaking that way. I rest my case.
Of course, the first gorgeous fae she runs across.. Deimos, has to think up a false name to give her.. I don't know why. Neither name means anything to her at this point, but he stammers and gives the name 'Doohickey.' So, 7% of the way in, I found myself already cringing.. and it doesn't stop. It gets worse and worse.
The main character, Guen, is one of those brilliant author designs. You know the ones.. she's so plain and unattractive that she thinks she'd look terrible in the things her best friend wears and no one would be interested in her, but of course.. everyone is. All the men are mesmerized by how beautiful she is. Whether friends or enemies, would-be killers or saviors, ultimately they still want to try her on for size. It's ridiculous.
She's melodramatic and annoying in all the most basic ways.
"These men were standing really close, saying weird things." I feel stupid in this moment as I hear my words and what I'm freaking out about."
I constantly wanted someone to shut her up or the chance to do it myself. And the author's descriptions are beyond.. belief. Sometimes I don't even know what she's trying to say, let alone why she chooses to say it the way she does.
"Someone grabs my arm, and I swing around with my stomach in my skin pricking with dread."
Pardon? That one left me blinking for a minute. Actually, after staring at the screen, perplexed by the writer's interesting command of language, I just shut the Kindle down and shook my head. I needed a few minutes to get over exactly how bad it was in the moment.
Ultimately, the story is just incredibly average. I did go back. A couple of hours later. But it continued to devolve from a creative standpoint in my opinion. The author loves to info dump periodically, instead of unveiling things with care.. a little word vomit in the car.. another bit of it in the motel.. a bit of it when they pause in running.. a bit more at the inn almost to the castle.. leaving exactly the kind of mess you'd expect.
"His fingers squeeze harder, and I'm suffocating, my lungs strangling themselves for air."
Deimos, as it turns out, has two hot brothers.. Luther and Ahren. They have dangerous enemies in one of the neighboring Courts, a curse to try to cure, violent abuse in a childhood backstory, and they're racking up debts just trying to deal with that, which may be the death of at least one of them. But none of that can save this title, as it's never really drawn out into a proper story. Mostly it's just briefly touched on here and there throughout the MC's whining and complaining and the attempt by the author to handle multiple-POV storytelling, when even one POV is on shaky ground.
Honestly, even the 'steamy scenes' are duds. The girl has a one-button insta-arousal kit and a nearly instant release potential without any serious contact. While there are signs the boys can smolder and Luther especially sounds lovely, it's a whole lot of 'not enough' in a novel full of 'I don't even care anymore.'
I just can't convey how disappointing this book was for me. I could probably pull all of the integral parts of the story from it and fit them onto a few pages, but you know what? It still wouldn't be worth reading.
--------------------------
02-02: I got behind because of my last read, but I'll be starting this one today or tomorrow.
01-29: Going to be starting this one soon. I love the cover.. for obvious reasons. lol. Here's hoping it's a good one.
I can already tell this is not for me.. my OCD can't handle starting in the middle of the story and even though it looked like we were going to get the whole of it in flashbacks throughout the story I get to the end still not having the starting point and realizing there at the end the Author is offering the first book in the series for free.. Well that would have been nice to know prior to the start of this book and not on the very last page....
As I was reading through this book I constantly checked Amazon and goodreads to find out if this was a spin off or if maybe I had accidentally grabbed book 2 in the series because it made no freaking sense to start off with and then offered little teaser flashbacks that really didn't give me near of enough to create the scenario's. I was completely lost.. but to be fair I was going to stick it out and just be lost hoping that maybe we would get the whole story in book 2 only to find that.. on the very last page the author was offering the ACTUAL first book...
Sorry but in my irritation I just couldn't hang after that...
Amazing story!!! Omg absolutely loved this story!!! Phenomenal storyline. The Three princes sound amazing. Author did an amazing job writing this story. So happy there is a book 2. That ending though..... yes cliffhanger but that’s fine I want the next book now!!! Definitely a must read book!!! Highly recommended
To Seduce a Fae Review To Seduce a Fae by Mila Young is the first book in her new series – Winter’s Thorn. The author introduces readers to an array of characters that begins with a young woman by the name of Guen. Imagine going out with your friend for some speed dating. It only goes from bad to worse. First things kick off with a guy still obsessed with his exes (YIKES) and then…you get face to face with a dreamy hunk…though with a weird name you’ll see) and then…the worse thing possible…your dress rips exposing the goodies to the world. Haha! Well, that’s Guen’s night, but things only get weirder…and worse from there. Her past is a “secret” but it’s coming back to haunt her in a real way when danger comes out of the shadows and demands her life and cooperation. To Seduce a Fae sets the stage for this new series. Guen is just wanting to live a normal life, but that’s not in the cards for her. The author expertly lays the groundwork of that there is a secret in Guen’s past. The men that she is meeting (minus the stalkers) she’s met before, but someone doesn’t want her remembering. She’s needed by two groups of people. They each have their own agenda, but for the group who needs her most they need her to recover her memories so that their people can be saved. But what about Guen? She has the attention of three handsome princes, but where is that going to lead her? She wants to get back home, but what will happen when she regains her memories? This book had me page-turning to learn what was going to happen next. Granted, Guen did get on my nerves more than once. Haha! For me, one of her more ridiculous moments is when she wanted to get mad at Deimos because her getting her skirt snagged on the chair. She blames him, but…how was it his fault?! He didn’t do it! Granted he wasn’t the most helpful, but I had to roll my eyes at her juvenile behavior of wanting to get mad at him. Now…I LOVE this author…but it seems like she had some imagination issues with this book. When she has Deimos give Guen a fake name…Doohickey would have had me laughing in his face and telling him to get lost. No woman with sense is buying that name not ever. I was a bit disappointed because I thought she’d come up with something better than that. I am rating this book 4 out of 5 stars. The storyline is really good and the author does an excellent job pulling readers along into the story as they seek to know what happens next. I’m eager to see where the next part of this story takes me as piece by piece the truth is revealed to Guen and the romance builds between her and the guys. I just honestly Guen stop acting like a teenager and that there are no more ridiculous names that really don’t even work in fiction.
Wow. This book takes you from a bustling nightclub to an incredible fairy tale realm. Incredible action, complex characters, a terrible course and sexy tension that makes you want what she's having! I loved it and I definitely love this new world and the sexy fae!
Guen is a very interesting character, she tries to find her place in the world until the place she had nightmares of turns out to be real (along with the mysterious man who would speak to her in her mind). She might seem weak at first but despite everything she's going through, she's a tough one. Even after she was diagnosed with schizophrenia (which, it turns out, she doesn't have), she does everything she can to live a normal life.
Luther is by far my favorite of the guys, because he's been always here for her, going to threaten to kill the people who hurt her once he found her. Throughout Luther's POVs, we can see he cares deeply about her (and not because she's supposed to save their world), he does love her. He even goes to build a sort of ferris wheel for her! I'm like dying to get more POVs from Ahren. I want to know his thoughts, his fears, everything! He seems to be an a**hole but I'm sure there is more to his character and I cannot wait to get to know him better, especially now that he seemed to soften to Guen towards the end of the book. As for Deimos, at first I thought he was a little jerk but when he came alone on earth to bring back Guen, we had insights on his thoughts and he too starts to care about her. I sometimes wondered if his protectiveness towards her was only because she's supposed to save the Wandering Realm but with the way he acted when Luther jumped back in the picture, I have no doubts he's falling for Guen.
What bothered me is that they are so determined for Guen to help them, but they aren't willing to share much about what they know about her. They're very secretive and I hope Guen will rebel even more against them somehow because after everything she went through, she deserves to know who she is.
I cannot wait to read To Tame a Fae next! Hopefully Ahren and Guen will get to spend more time together!
I did really like this book, enough that I've already started on book two. But there are a couple things that brought it down from five-stars.
I'll start with my favorite parts. I really love the characters. I think they are interesting and well-defined. Sometimes with RH, the guys especially end up blending together, but each one has a distinct personality and I love it! Even the side-characters are written so well. I think the character development is the most impressive part of this story! I did also find it to be original and a page-turner.
Alright, now for my not-so-favorite aspects...the biggest thing for me is all the effin' secrets the guys are keeping from the FMC. As I've said, I've already started book two. I'm about 25% of the way into that and I know they are still hiding things. That's a pet peeve for me, and the longer they keep them, the more it is getting to me. The other part is the freakin' slow burn. I understand this is totally a me-problem. But I'm getting impatient. Especially since I keep reading their inner dialogue about how they want each other so badly. Apparently not! *clears throat and steps off soap box* excuse me, I'm done now.
So, it is a great book and I do recommend it...especially if secrets and a slow burn don't bother you. Happy reading!
Alright. So it started off in the last book with Luther being all she knew. We already know he is her mate. Now this one she basically remembers nothing except for Luther's name really and she remembers he had 2 brothers. In this Deimos comes for her and now he is claiming she is his mate. I have a feeling the next book will be about the other brother. Luther obviously feels some type of way about everything. He can tell something is going on with Guen and Deimos. I hope he get's over it and learns to share though. I don't want it to ruin how he feels about her and how he sees her. I don't want him to push her away.
Still there is mentions of day dreams of what they wish they would do to one another but still there hasn't been any actual on page spice until the VERY end there is a little bit.. nothing too hot. The books are pretty short but there is growth in the relationships between the characters. But HOLY HELL what was that ending??? WTH is it because of the orgasm????
I REALLY want to finish this series but Imma broke bitch and its not on KU. That's really the big debate right now. Its good enough for me to WANT to finish it. Buttt... is it good enough to spend the extra money to finish it?? I'm 50/50 on it lol
Spice .5/ 5 Humor 0/5 Emotional 1/5 World Building 5/5 Overall 4/5
Full disclaimer: this is the third M. Young book I've read, from a third series. I hated the first two, but I am just such a sucker for a fantasy RH that I figured I'd give her one last shot, and Booktok floated this title across my FYP several times.
First off: although there's a lot of language around it, we get only one spicy scene at the end. Very slow burn.
The FMC, as other reviews have mentioned, is annoying and somewhat one dimensional/"not like every other girl." We get several dedicated moments throughout the book where she talks about it taking 15 minutes to struggle into her skinny jeans?? The MMCs are all different enough, I suppose, although I'm quite worried that they're all brothers, because I feel like that's going to veer the next book into incest pretty quickly (or they're going to be super strict about minimal group activities) and that's just not my vibe.
However, the world building is interesting enough that I'm going to give the second book a shot.
Dreams, feelings and emotions that could be real or not had Guen in despair. When a prince from another realm came for her because she was the only one who could save his people, she needed to know about a forgotten past. Read first the free copy of To Catch a Fae. Good! Liked Luther’s character and understood better the dynamics of the realm. In to Seduce a Fae caught my attention how Guen was dealing with what she was feeling for Deimos and her struggle trying to remember Luther. Intense and exciting the fights with the monsters. Intrigued by Guen’s hidden powers. What she could to save the Shadow Realm? Lot of action, suspense, some amusing scenes, strange creatures, violence, romance and passion. An interesting, intriguing and entertaining story, just the way I like these fantasy stories with mysteries, secrets, strange and conflictive characters that arouse my curiosity about how the author will work with them.
Mila Young has a unique way of introducing a concept and turning it around and sucking in the reader. This novel took on a concept that I've read similarly before but made it her own.
As were introduced to our main character, Guen, and she believes that she suffers a mental illness because she remembers things that could never have happened. Then she meets her first man, Demios and feels an instant attraction. She has many twists and turns as she discovers the world she thought was in her head is real and she must have now traverse into it. She then is reintroduced to Luther and Ahren and has to figure out her place. I feel like these characters were very real as Guen's reactions are how I feel I would react if I were thrown into the situation.
This book ends with a dramatic cliffhanger, having the reader begging for the next book. I definitely recommend the series as it takes on the concept of Fae and humans and turns things all around.
I would categorized this book as "mild dark fantasy". Guendolyn is an orphaned girl who has weird dreams (considered as psychic disorder by doctors), a mysterious male voice speaking in her head, is bullied at school, hasn't any friends and struggles to be understood by her foster family. Well, that's a LOT of problems and it's stressful and heartbreaking to read about all her sufferings. But things don't get better when she enters the Fae realm and meets three Fae princes who are total hot as hell as***le. In conclusion, there is a lot of suspense in this book and I think (and I'm a bit afraid) that it's only the beginning of the problems for Guen! Maybe it's a bit too much and that's why I consider this book as dark fantasy. I hope more positive things will happen in the next one (^^')
Guen is convinced by her friend to go to a speed dating event. Here she meets a guy that reminds her of her dream man... literally. She has been going to a shrink due to very lively dreams about a man named Luther, and now this guy comes and wants to bring her to her dream world?
The three princes need to get Guen to their kingdom, but the journey there is troubled. And what is it about a curse?
The book is well written. The main character is nicely described and the three guys have very different personalities, that makes the book seem realistic. It only gets 4 stars, as we start in what feels like the middle of a story, and the flashbacks aren't enough to make up for the missing story.
I loved the narration of Krys Janae, who brings out the heat, story, action and will keep you wanting to listen.
When Guen goes on a blind date in a group setting. It is there she ends up meeting a really sexy man . Next she is attacked by two weird guys only to have the sexy man show up and save her. It is then he starts talking about Fae, princes, and more. Guen finds herself going through a portal she created by accident. Finding herself in the middle of this world that is not supposed to exist being told all sorts of things that she has a hard time believing. It doesn't help that all three princes are sexy and hot .
This ends with a huge cliff hanger, which will leave you with a major book hangover (in the best of ways). The female main character is a clueless about her heritage which could be annoying but is a major factor in where the series is going. I actually am really pleased with the fact she doesn't suddenly gain her footing in the new world and saves the day as most books do these days. The three princes are swoon worthy. I am really looking forward to the next book!
I liked this book but I gave it 3 stars for 2 reasons. 1st- It's supposed to be a romance hence the name "To SEDUCE a fae" yet there's ZERO sex involved. That wouldn't bother me if it wasn't for the fact that they make you think it's about to happen but never does. They're constantly saying how much they want the other, what they want to do to them, maybe even kiss but it never goes further which to me is just frustrating. 2nd reason- the entire story is one confusing secret that never comes out, never get closer to figuring it out, nothing.
I enjoyed this book more than the first one but I think they could have been one book and it would have felt more complete since there was a lot of mentions of the first book.
I feel like this book needed more substance felt a little rush, I think a slower pace would of worked well and needs to be longer. Which in turn makes it a little frustrating because I just needed more.
The main character was aged up by 2 years thank goodness because I was a bit unsure about that in the first book.
Overall I did enjoy it could of have had a bit more spice tho
Mila Young's To Seduce A Fae drops us straight into a dark fantasy whirlwind. Guen tries for a fresh start at college, only to be claimed by three dangerously gorgeous fae princes who insist she's the savior of their war-torn realm.
Each fae prince has his own intense, swoon-worthy charm, and the stakes? Let's just say secrets, magic, and a lot of steam.
If you're craving an addictive, high-stakes fantasy romance with all the tension, dark twists, and heat your heart can handle, don't skip this one!
I'm were do I begin!!! It did take me a bit to get into the story but I'm glad that I stuck with it though. It had plenty of action, intrigue, mystery, and suspense to keep you hook from beginning to end. It does end on a cliffhanger but I'm interested enough to see what else is in store for this series. I voluntarily read and review this ARC no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
I enjoyed this book. I loved journeying through the human and Fae realms and joining Guen on her journey of self discovery. I loved Guen as a character she was tough, resilient with a touch of vulnerability. This book had absolutely everything you could ask for a storyline line with flowed throughout, action, suspense, romance and topped of with a little humour. I can’t wait to see where it leads next!!
Nooooo I feel so cheated. Why?! I see this going in the direction of an RH. But from the beginning it seemed as though Gwen and Luther were fated mates. Destined for one another. So why the hell is Deimos all over her?! Deimos is the youngest of the three princes. Luther is 2nd and Ahren the first borne, also future King. I love this story and can't wait to hear more about the fae world and the curse Gwen unknowingly unbleached.
Super great start to this series! Fantastic world building and well developed characters. I would consider this a slower burning RH. All three of her men are introduced in this book and I’m really hoping the steaminess level increases in the next book. We get little teases throughout this book but these fae fellas are HOT and I’m ready for that level of intensity! Excited to continue this series!!
I actually liked the story, but honestly, these two books could’ve just been one. I know there are two more in the series, and part of me wants to keep going… but I think I’ll pass for now. There are other series I’d rather invest in—ones with a little more juice in the storyline. These felt too short and left me wanting more depth.
That said, I’m just as torn as the female lead about who to choose, so who knows… maybe I’ll come back to finish it someday.
This book is a fabulous start to this new series! I loved it and could not put it down! Guen, Ahren, Deimos, and Luther are amazing characters. The storyline takes place in both the Human and Fae Realms and is full of action, intrigue, mystery and suspense. I would definitely recommend this book and I cannot wait for the next one!
I am split at the moment on this series as in places its really enjoyable and in others confusing, I almost think i am missing some thing that would help me understand things better- that said if you take a step back and read with out analysing things it is actually quite an enjoyable read full of action.
Geun has grown up on Earth in the foster care system and has never felt she really belonged. The voice in her head speaks in riddles. She is transported to the Fae kingdom. The Fae princes confuse and frustrate her with threats and half truths. This is a great story and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
I love Mila’s books! This is the perfect spin on the classic tale of sleeping beauty! It draws you in and paints your imagination with the scenery and characters in the book. The worlds are built in a manner that you are pulled in and able to travel tight along with the MC and the princes. Well done!
Just average- in plot, in steam, in character development. World building was very good which is why I’m giving three stars. I love Fae books but this story is one you have to struggle to stay involved in and the FMC is annoying. So many good ideas in the story but they pretty much all fizzled. If you have more patience with a story than I do maybe this will be for you.
