Someone is going to take their secret to her grave.
It’s been over two months since hellerune Edie Holloway and her friends fought for their lives against a mysterious dread lord, winning only at great cost. But the Wounded was not defeated, and he and his followers still seek to destroy what remains of the Reach.
Edie has come to rely on her allies, but they've started acting strangely—and after an ill-omened rune reading, she isn’t sure who she can trust. Meanwhile, shieldmaiden Satara must retrieve a stolen artifact from a shadowy thief, and Auroran vivid Marius has come across evidence of a plot to assassinate his father.
If they can set their animosity aside, Marius may be able to help Edie and Satara in their greatest time of need … and they may be his only hope to unmask a traitor who's a lot closer than they think.

I went into this second book knowing it was probably going to be as good as the first. I was pleasantly surprised to find it was much better than the first one. The characters have gotten so much deeper and filled-out, there were many twists and turns, and the plot has gotten so very interesting. I just love Edie, Cal, Satara, and Mercy. I do admit to not being sure whether I liked Marius, but by the end, I love him too. With the new developments and revelations in this book, I am so eager to find out what is going to come of these characters and who they really are. There is a complexity I’m seeing that I love. Can’t wait for the next one! Highly recommend!
I received an early release copy of this book from the author and this is my honest review of it!
I thoroughly enjoyed this second book in this series and it definitely left me wanting more! At the end of the last book Edie was beginning to know her powers, but there's still so much more that she needs to know and to learn if she is ever going to save the world as part of the Reach. Edie seems to be on everyone's hate list in this book and the New Gloaming are causing enough problems for Edie and her gang to get more and more involved.
She tries to enlist the help of another ancient being, who reveals that things in Camp Edie are not as simple and honest as she hoped they would be. With the seeds of doubt soon sown, Edie finds herself distrusting everyone and ultimately trusting the wrong one! She then needs the help of those she thought she couldn't trust any more to help her out of the most dire of situations!
I love the characters in this series - Edie is great as a main character. She's not your typical kick ass heroine, but when she does, every enemy of hers soon knows about it! Cal is great as her second - he's eventually coming round to the idea that she is nothing like her father once was and doesn't feel obligated to obey her orders, yet still wants to be there for her anyway! Marius was one I couldn't decide about initially, but he changed my mind quick enough once he realised that Edie being a hellebore wasn't actually that bad or big a deal!
There were so many unexpected twists and turns in this book, that it constantly kept me on my toes. This was definitely a page turner!
Thank you to Genevra for sending me a copy of this book to review. Can't wait to read the next one!
I enjoyed this one even more than the first! In No Earthly Treason I felt we got to know the characters even better than we did in the first book from this series. Edie is a great main character, she’s easy to like and pull for throughout. Cal is probably my favorite, I absolutely love him! I have been on the fence when it comes to Marius, but towards the end of this one I started to really like him too. If you liked the first one, you’ll love this one! I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I received a free copy for an honest review. I was excited to read this because I love Norse mythology and the authors take on it. I didn’t see some of this coming and I love that. It’s so amazing to come across a book where you are really surprised by the outcome. Edie continues to be amazing as well as her rag tag team that keeps growing. The ending has left me wanting more and came with another surprise that I didn’t see coming. I cannot wait!!
The second book in The Necromancer's Daughter series had me once again gripped to my seat. I love the attention to detail Genevra Black brings to her work and the way she blends lightness with tension. I love her sense of humor and by writing this in the 3rd person many observations are made that had me chuckling. The story clearly centers Edie Holloway with other main characters also given depth and complexity within the bounds of urban fantasy. I read a lot of urban fantasy and this series is probably my favorite. I used to read a lot of Jim Butcher but I got a bit tired of Harry Dresden and living inside his head. This series has more of a Norse feel to it and direct connections with Norse mythology. This brings in Valkyries and other strong and smart female characters. So needed in urban fantasy. We lose one of the main characters! Not going to say who, but when I read this scene I wanted to go back in time and have it not be so. There is treachery abounding on all pages. But yes Edie survives to live through to the next book, that I am so looking forward to :-) I might now be like the GRRR readers who just want the next story to come out. So much potential here. And I wonder whether it will stretch into a series like the Dresden files that didn't stop at a trilogy but kept it going for many, many books. I can only hope so...
Ah, the sweet addition of possible budding romances - can we include shape of water? So much true friendship and shocking betrayals. This is being worthy.
