The mages and the fae aren’t letting go of their differences. They’re both willing to go to war for domination, even if it tears Haret apart.
It’s time to stop hoping for compromise and start flexing my magical muscle.
I just need a way to shelter the innocent. I can’t protect everyone, and I still have a long list of tasks from Iaga. We’ve been moving from city to city, and we need a home base.
Not everyone will make it out of this alive.
A lot of Haret’s history was buried, and uncovering it just might start an avalanche of trouble. The future can still be bright, as long as we keep our sights on that rainbow and the light it represents.
I’m Carlyle Licorne, and I’m fighting for my happily-ever-after.
Ugh.... I have raved about the series from the very first book noting that each ending left a tiny cliffhanger but well worth it for the next book to solve. We get plenty of answers to all the questions we are dying to know and the relationships between Carlyle and her men grow immensely and I caught myself tearing up and laughing right along with them throughout the book. But cmon!!! The ending wasn’t even the “vacation” or “honeymoon” we keep hearing about. We dealt with the dragons, the Enforcer, Ringmaster, the mer, the fae, the dark Qilin, and the trapped Qilin, but we didn’t do anything about the vampires? We didn’t do anything about the Council? I felt like towards the middle of this book and probably the last one all of our saucy scenes were wrapped up with a starting tension and then off to the next chapter which began the next morning! I definitely felt like the ending to this series was rushed since not everything was solved. I still had so many questions at the end and felt at a loss and devastated by the final coming together scene. I was more enthralled with the ice cream scene than the ending scene. I would have loved details of Carlyle mating with each man individually or even skip to the vacation where she has her way with them then. It almost felt like there was going to be another book the way it ended. So when I read her note that it was the end of the series my stomach plummeted! Either way, I still give this 5 stars because being with Carlyle and her men during the entire journey was definitely perfect regardless of the the unanswered questions and short ending.
I'm glad the FMC finally has a spine but I'm still left questioning her. First off how is no one (especially Carlyle!) not upset that the Darkblood Qilin Collin died? Nothing but a comment of "oh no, him being dead is gonna look bad for me." No trying to figure out how or why either. Wow, what a compassionate queen. Then, what amounts to a day or to later at most, they can now go get 3-4 more Qilin to do something else with the path when Colin was the only one stable? Feels like convenience to me. And then her pulling out a trick and pony show for the council and detailing out exactly what she can do? Yeesh. You don't give these details to your potential enemies who can now strategize now that they know what you can do and Jai and Dair, at minimum, say nothing? This does not make you look like a queen of anything. I'm not saying don't shift (because that was necessary proof) but act like a queen! And again with sex scenes for the sake of another sex scene (not all of them for sure). The moments didn't progress the plot or relationship development; in other words, they didn't always make sense or get the emotional feel with it (which is really the crux of my problem). With all that said, this story was a good read and I'm glad I read the whole series even though there are still unanswered questions. The writing quality was there for me to make me stick though the parts of the story I had issues with. I'm definitely looking forward to more stories from this author in the future.
“”All hail, Queen Carlyle, of Haret,” Jai called into the packed throne room. The call echoed back on hundreds of lips, and a cheer went up.”
This book was slightly anti-climactic and it felt rushed to me. It took no time at all for Carlyle to be pulled out of the darkness and I would have loved to see some more challenges there. I did like how we got more of the men’s POV during this last book though. OH, and how can I forget the two scenes where they ALL participate in some sexy times?! That was absolutely delectable and had me completely flushed from head to toe. Also the Jai and Dair sandwich, like come on that’s just unfair at this point!
I have to say though, I was a bit disappointed that certain loose ends weren’t tied off; such as the Merden situation, I’m not quite sure why it was mentioned unless the story continues in the novellas, which I will have to check out as well!
Overall the read was quick and predictable at times but still incredibly enjoyable! The series started out really strong and by the last book I would say the writing was not as engaging; the book could have been longer and better developed in terms of the plot being solved, for example. However, I’m still so glad I picked up this series and I’m looking forward to checking out Laurel’s other books!
Oh my goodness gracious woman you have utterly outdone yourself!! I cackled with glee when she killed the fae queen and I’m praying that you continue this series! I mean they talked of babies and they have yet to take back Jai’s and kana’s kingdom which I’m looking forward to! Soon I will order all of this series in paperback to go on my bookshelf with Christine Feehan and laurel K Hamilton my top two favorite Arthur’s you are now my 4th favorite haha please never stop writing I love your books so so much they make my dull dark days as a single mom of 3 so much brighter and full of wonder I read them to my oldest two my son and daughter who are 5 and 3,minus the steamy parts and let me tell you that you have mini fans as well!! Thank you so much for all your hard work it is truly appreciated!!
If the story was only about their relationship then yes end the story here. However because the main plot to me was saving Haret and such, then perhaps the books should continue. There are SO MANY loose ends.
Things not addressed or we don’t see completed: What happens with all of Haret. We barely even touch on the shit show that is Jai’s fam and city his Aunt overtook. We know aunt is plotting something but the author shoves this away. What of Dr. F? What about the Dragons? Will they becoming back or getting their memory? Why was finding the Qilin so important? Like aside from the few things they needed more for?
There is just so much missing. It felt incomplete.
On the relationship front everything is great, though I’d like to see them honeymoon and such. But still in a Haret as a whole front things are incomplete.

Such a perfect ending for our girl and her yummy men. It was a little predictable, but it was still fantastic. This series has been one of my favorites and I was happy to see it end the way it did.
What a way to end this series! I won't give major things away, but I can't contain how much I enjoyed this series and was happy to experience what the author created/put us through haha. I can't wait to start the spinoffs and added adventures, I am appreciative the author wants to continue writing in this world, I definitely wasn't ready for it to be over after this one.
Ok so big highlights from me....I loved the twists with Carlyle's mom and her back story/characters she "knew". I felt bad for one of her mates, I was happy he got to be with her for a short time though. I loved seeing some of the reunions throughout this series (esp one in the last book with a side character we got to meet). Loved that the different factions stepped up and helped out the crew defeat the baddies. Got some giggles with how Carlyle handled the fae (won't say more than that haha) and enjoyed again the powers becoming enhanced/improving as the story went along. There were some heart wrenching moments, but the author did a great job wrapping up the main story while giving us some hints on upcoming plots from this same world (can't wait for Jai's family to get what they deserve since that will be covered in a spinoff series I think!). Loved getting some of the back story from Haret's goddess, helped put things into perspective too. Carlyle has become this strong Qilin who has finally embraced 100% what she is, what she needs to do, and leans on all her mates to help bring peace to Haret and her friends and family. She definitely grew on me, especially her love of sweets and flying. The steam was well-balanced with the story progression as well in this one ❤️
Narration was good again, not as many issues in terms of quality as some of the others had. Definitely will be listening to these narrators again (they have been on my instant listen list for awhile anyway haha).
~ Poly w/ MM ~ Fantasy/Goddess ~ plentiful group scenes ~ kinks bondage, good girl, Dom/sub light, breath/blood play
☑️ violence & death of secondary characters ☑️ mention of past abuse
✅ no cheating or ow, no MC death
This is the conclusion to the Haret Chronicles. It was definitely my least favorite book and I ended up skimming quite a bit. The ending was ok, I understand Jais aunt will be dealt with in Kana’s series. I was left wanting with the Kills/Jai attraction. I didn’t care how it went either way, I just wanted an answer. Personally I feel after 100 years developing an attraction that’s never been there..seems forced even though I was into it. Theres definitely plot and magic convenience happening. See my notes. There’s lots of battles I skipped, she becomes Queen, HEA.
⚠️Spoilers Ahead ⚠️
I was loving this series until…..Collin. I would have rated this 4 stars except I absolutely can’t get past this. It’s SO out of character and heartless. I’m stunned more reviewers don’t mention it. She forced him to kill himself and then was like OOPS we didn’t know? There’s no remorse. She agonized for WEEKS about killing Regina who deserved it.
Poor Collin was shat on after being in stasis forever and they didn’t even try to help him live. They forced him to open the Path. No funeral or memorial or anything. It disgusted me so much it RUINED the entire series. It didn’t fit at all. She even promised the people she’d never force them to do anything. Apparently that same promise doesn’t extend to her own Quilin. Maybe even 2 stars that’s how I feel.

It took me a whole week with every evening intense reading to read this core series (there are novellas and side series too) from cover to cover (ca 1.5 ca pages). OMG I really can’t believe I AM HERE.
This book was A LOT.
A lot of personal relationships drama of Carlyle with her MMCs as well as lot of worlds & political drama.
So when you know like a character is on the mission there is one mission right? Well, here Carlyle did at least 5 in my opinion, and won all the battles personal and political as well as found a home. I think author a little bit overdid what a character could do within one book.
Moreover, the relationships were still developing btw Carlyle and MMCs and it felt stretched out to already wrap it up. Felt rushed and not emotional enough somehow.
Also after so many adventures and drama you wait for a GRAND FINALE and wrapping up of the series. BUT that was not it! It finished on an opened line… Gladly i knew there are novellas (there are 7, if smb is at this point and doesn’t know it yet). And i think they serve as VERY long epilogue of this very badass fantasy series.
Am i mid of first novella already yes? I really want to read them all and wrap it up this story for me. I loved Carlyle, Jai and Kills the most 😍 but i also want to wrap the story up too
Wow... I had a busy day today but nothing could keep me from reading this whenever I could. Carlyle and the guys are still... STILL... trying to figure out how to save the world without blowing anyone too stubborn to listen up (much to my dismay) and in between those issues, they’ve got drama from the homelands and big reveals that kinda make you that much sadder. In good and bad ways.
I love that this can be so sex-charged and adventurous and dark and still have moments of bitter sweetness and dealing with... well, things that would make you depressed if you dwelled on it long enough. I low key live for those things. Nothing too dark but just enough to make this feel like something more than a cookie cutter sex fantasy thrill ride. I live for the balance and the amaze balls that is Haret.
I loved this series from the very first book but somewhere in the middle of series it became disappointing and the finale disappointed me the most.
Carlyle changed so much throughout the series and even though I enjoy character growth, I did not fully enjoy hers. I felt that towards the end she got this sense of entitlement. She kept saying she did not want to be the queen, but her actions were that of a bloodthirsty and power-hungry one. While the circumstances were not ideal, there had to be other ways to reach consensus.
I did not like the ending as too many threads were not closed, like Jairo's stepmother, the quilins and the dragons etc. So many openings for further stories were left which was great to an extent but I did not get the closure I needed.
Since the first book, we have followed Carlyles journey to find her place and her destiny. The promise of a HEA and love is fulfilled in this book. There is also a promise for more books to come - i’m looking forward to that!
In this book, Carlyle saves the day in various ways and in various places. Her RH are settled and permanent. The world building was amazing, you can envision the scenes as you read. The characters (from previous books too) play a role in this book, so you’ll read about some familiar characters.
The book was done beautifully. Bravo, and thank you, author. 💐
I was disappointed in how the author handled the thing with the dark Quilin, I think his name was Collin? I mean I get it but they basically sacrificed someone against their will and he barely got mention once. I don’t even know if she buried him and that doesn’t sit well with me.
Apart from that it was an amazing series and I loved getting to know the characters and all of their stories. She is an amazing writer and I would definitely recommend this series. The books are all quick reads and the pacing is quick.
I dont usually leave reviews unless I really really loved the story. M(r)s. Laurel Chase, you have quickly rated high in my Favorite category. I loved Carlyle and all her amazing loving complicated men. I definitely wanna be a Quilin when I grow up with my own mates. I devoured each and every book as fast as I can and I never lost interest. This final one had me so intrigued my dreams played out scenarios of what would happen. I only got 5hr of sleep before I was back up reading again! Thank you so much for their story and world!
As much as I loved the book and this ending, I sooooo wish we could have seen more of Jai’s domineering sexual kink telling the guys what to do in bed. We got teased with it, but didn’t get the whole kabob, dang it. Also, I was really rooting for a Jai-Killian sexy tango. It was definitely leading there and then poof, gone. Sigh. I just love some heavy, detailed m/m. Anyway. Carlyle is bomb and she a bad, shanking Qilin.
Not only does this series of a consistently enjoyable and engaging story line but it’s got the perfect balance adventure, self discovery, romance, steam and humor.
I am SO HAPPY I stumbled onto these books and can’t wait to get the physicals for my collection.
Definitely recommend to anyone who loves all the above in a fantasy shifter romance series of epic proportions!
Usually 3 to 4 book series are my max, and I won’t even start a series that has more, but no regrets reading this one. It was just a good fun escape from reality. That said, it didn’t need 7 books and rather than being left basking in the afterglow, I’m just kind of glad it’s over (for now)!
I’ll get to the novellas when I’m in my next book slump since I know they’ll be good, but for now I’m looking forward to a change…
A finale for the ages!! But even better with the happy post-novellas to look forward to
Ahh! So much happened!! But they are all happy and together!! All the bad guys are vanquished, and they are setting up a new form of government!! My only thing is that i wish we could see more time with them happy' and the amazing thing is the author is providing that eith the series of short novellas that im goung to start reading right now!!
So I have to say first off I know this is a reverse harem series but the story would have been utterly amazing with out the heavy sex. This was a great story to follow once I started skipping over most of the sex scenes. I just felt like they started to interfere with the tale and I prefer stories where the sex and plot just flow better.
This series is officially in my top favorite. Carlyle is an easy character to love and relate to and her mates are each amazing in their own way. I love the character growth throughout the entire series and when you are finished, make sure to read the sugar bite series that follows. (Same characters, same worlds, just a progression on the story)
A good ending to the series. That power move in the castle was awesome. I was a little disappointed that some of the issues highlighted previously were left open, but I don’t understand that the whole world can’t be fixed immediately and it remains a work in progress for the Queen and her Kings.
I am already calling this my top read of 2022. I couldn't put this series down, absolutely loved the world building, the tension, the awkwardness of Carlyle finding her guys, and how to claim them. Loved the shift halfway through the series that kept things super interesting. Spice was TOP TIER. What an amazing author, Laurel Chase is definitely a one click buy for me now.
First of all this series definitely had me gripping the edge of my seat wondering if Carlyle was going to survive or be a martyr. And all the secrets that came out in this final book... Wow I love the world of Haret now❣️❣️❣️ Aleron he shouldn't have never killed that kid like that; I was hoping that he would get gutted before the end of this book.
The story comes to a head, well written and full of steamy passion I enjoyed this end to a dramatic series. But the story probably won’t end here, the writer has cleverly left the door open for more haret tales, a fabulous series I thoroughly enjoyed
The 7th book in this wonderful series. I thought it was going to be the last but more story is coming but in different series I guess. This book wrapped up a bunch of stuff ,I swear I love her vampire fang horn! I hope she can give her mates babies like they want!
This book has such a poignant beginning, my heart nearly broke for Jai. Carlyle faced all her fears and inhibitions about her magic and really grows into a strong female character that I could get behind. My innocense has thoroughly been decimated after reading a sevensome, definitely not for the faint hearted. This was a very good ending to a surprisingly good series.
This was a great story, reading about each characters journey and the mains. No recaps! Witch is awesome! That means you need to go to book 1! And in my opinion that's how series should be, if you don't buy and follow in order you lose the story!
Wow. What a perfect ending. It's an amazing series. I absolutely love everything about this story. It kept me really interested...and hooked. Thank you for writing such a great series!!
So deliciously good. Can’t believe they are more books. The author manages to keep me engage for 7 books without making it like a plain porn book. The story is great and I enjoy knowing all the characters. I was sad and it felt un finish at the end. So I am pretty glad they are more books. :)
