He’s big. He’s bad. His claws are epic.

Frantic to avoid detection, Lila hides for the night in a condemned outbuilding on the edge of town. She checks each bunk for comfort and rests on the one with a strangely enticing scent and falls into an exhausted sleep.

One problem—this place isn’t abandoned. Miners actually live here. And she’s chosen Zayzon’s bed. The loudest, tallest and sharp-clawed out of a band of tragically messy Xylan brothers who can’t clean to save their lives. And he keeps standing much too close. And sniffing her hair. And muttering something about mating compatibility.

Whatever.

She’s just that desperate, so she offers to become their housekeeper if they’ll let her stay. The brothers accept, and Lila cleans up their freaking mess, relieved to have somewhere safe to live. Meanwhile, Zayzon keeps insisting that she continue to sleep on his bunk. And she keeps accepting! Because it’s getting harder and harder to deny her attraction for his possessive gaze, razor-sharp claws and his large… um, personality?

But Lila can’t fall for anyone, even a scary male who turns out to be cuddly. Not when demons from her past are about to return for their down payment.

Can a human save an alien miner’s life, without breaking his heart?

Ok

This is a pretty good story but it gives you total Snow White and the seven dwarfs vibes. But it was still good.
I liked the chemistry between Lila and Zayzon. They are so cute together.
However, the ending seemed rushed and crushed together.
Overall I give this a 3.2

Big Bad Claws (Fever Brothers #2) by Michele Mills

HERO - Zayzon of Forty-Five, also known as “Claws”. Xylan male. Native of the planet Timbur. Driller for Minecorp. Seven-feet tall. Medium-toned skin. Long, silky hair with tiny black and gold braids. Deep ridged forehead. Four fingers tipped with abnormally large, sharp claws. Fangs. Hazel eyes.

HEROINE - Lila Garabedian. Human female from New Earth. Long, black hair and dark eyes. Tall, thin, and narrow-framed. Pale-skinned. Has her father’s distinctive nose.

OVERALL THOUGHTS - This is the second book in the Fever Brothers series and it’s twice as long as the first. It both benefits and suffers from this. Let’s start with the things I enjoyed:

1.) Every interaction between Zayzon and his brothers. They’re hilarious when they’re together! He, Scar, Chief, Trunk, Cannibal, Heavy, and Rook all live in the same compound. The eighth brother, Saxon (or Hook) was the hero of the first novella and moved out to live with his Bride. The ninth brother, Daxon, was the hero of his own book (which I haven’t read), and was previously exiled from the planet.

2.) The initial interactions between Zayzon and Lila were cute. Her reactions to the brothers were cute. They couldn’t communicate verbally at first because she didn’t have a translator implant.

3.) We got to see more of the jungle planet and learned why the clan is called the Fever Brothers in the first place.

4.) Zayzon was a dedicated hero. Even after Lila initially rejected his request to clasp hands, he was still for her 100%. Despite being unable to feel arousal, he has a need to be by her side, protect her, and keep her happy.

5.) Leah from book one gives birth, though it’s off page.

6.) There’s an ongoing mystery concerning why they live in a decrepit compound, and who killed their parents.

And now, where the story suffered:

1.) It dragged. Oh, how did it drag! Considering we’re told over and over again that she has to hide out for 30 days, I expected this to be quick-paced, possibly action-packed, since she’s on the run from assassins. Nope! I want to say this 150-something page book only covered 3-4 days. And nothing happened. I mean, there were several pages dedicated to her cleaning and organizing their house.

2.) There’s a LARGE amount of internal reflection, especially from Lila, but eventually from Zayzon, too. Instead of the character’s DOING something, they were constantly thinking about stuff. Sometimes, they’d think about the same stuff over and over, but in slightly different ways. It was maddening.

3.) It’s repetitive and there’s a bunch of information dumping. There are times when characters will spout a disturbing amount of information in one go and it’s painfully obvious it’s for the benefit of the reader. One example is when the heroine from book one, Leah, shows up and dumps information on Lila that we’d already learned several times over in other parts of the book. It really cheapened her cameo. The repeating of information in slightly different ways happens A LOT.

4.) The cameos of Leah and Saxon felt forced. I was excited to revisit them since I loved their novella, but there was no peek into their future. So when Leah paid a visit to Lila (I’m just now noticing their names are extremely similar) I was happy...until I realized she was just a way to add exposition to the story. Then Saxon show’s up, only speaks to Leah, basically ignores Lila, and leaves within a couple of sentences. Why even have him show up then? I LOVED their personalities in book one, darn it. Oh, and Leah calls him Saxon of Twelve in this book. In his book, he was Saxon of Nine... I can't figure what the "of [blank]" refers to and it's never explained.

5.) I felt the first novella was much steamier. There was almost no steam here.

6.) The sex is unsexy. While the scenes are kind of descriptive...they’re not really. And they’re over extremely quick.

7.) The ending was extremely unsatisfying. It didn’t help that by 75% I was struggling to finish. Honestly, between the constant internal reflection and repetition of information, this story needed to be about 30-40 pages shorter than it was.

Sigh. I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed. LOL I really enjoyed Mean Right Hook. It was my first novella by Michele Mills and I had such high hopes for this one. The next book will be One Big Bite and will feature Cannibal and a new character named Roxy, and I’ll probably give it a try. Here’s hoping I’ll like that one better!

HEAR ME OUT I read this book as a joke for a book club.... the MC and the love interest had no chemistry whatsoever, and the first hundred pages (which was basically the whole book) dragged so much.

Big bad claws is a retelling of Snowhite.
Lila is forced to leave Earth when she discovers that her stepmom is trying to kill her. She ends up in a house were seven aliens is living in exile, Claws being one of them.
For Zayzon “Claws” it’s mating by first sent, Lila as a human not so much. There is insta-lust from both and H is very possessive of his woman.

I liked this story, reminds me of Ruby Dixon writing. Easy, safe, hot and cute 🌟

One thing with these kinds of books is that you cannot compare to reality, I would have died if I witnessed a couple like this; 😂

”A huge, wild-eyed Xylan male came crashing through the front door, his chest heaving.
“Leah.” He definitely looked like a Fever Brother, with the same work gear the miners all wore. And they all had the same barrel chests and thick thighs. He ran straight for Leah and scooped her into his arms. He lowered himself onto the ledge of the fireplace and sat with his Bride on his lap, then he shoved his nose into her neck and inhaled. Leah wrapped her arms around him. “Oh honey, did you run the whole way here?” she asked.
Her husband gave a jerky nod.
“Oh baby, I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you, but you know I had to see Zayzon’s new mate, right? She’s human, so it was really important to me. Look around, you can see I’m perfectly fine.”
He placed his claw on her swollen belly. “I can’t let anything happen to you,” he rasped. “You are my everything.”
She gave him a tender kiss on the lips. “You are my everything too.”

- No cheating
- No OW/OM drama
- Safe
- Written in 3rd person
- Can be read as a stand-alone

”You’re a dirty talker?” she whispered with delight.
“My mouth is clean.”
“No, I…never mind, please continue.”

I loved book one, which I stumbled onto via KU, and when I saw this one listed on Booksprout I had to grab it as fast as possible! Claws and Lila are magic. The biggest and most adamant about not finding any mate, much less a human, I expected him to push away and struggle to accept what the u inverse was trying to tell him. But the way Claws accepted Lila, and her strength in demanding time for what are very valid reasons, gives us time to see the relationship blossom and true love grow. We also get a much deeper peek into who the other Fever crew includes, and I am definitely excited to watch these lovable dudes match up with their destinies. Well written and solid plot, this is a great addition to Ms. Mill’s bookshelf.

For safety readers- this book is SUPER safe. As safe as it’s possible to get. Dual virgins, my friends, but these two definitely know how to get down.

Just pass. This was not enjoyable at all. I think I've read so much in this genre that it's difficult to find good reads anymore. But Big Bad Claws is just a big boring book of nothingness. The characters are shallow, the plot was weak, and the world building is average. The author failed to really draw me in to care about this couple, the challenges they faced, or the possibility of their HEA. I kept hoping it would get better, but it just didn't. Then it ended. The steam is lacking and I honestly failed ot see much chemistry between the two main characters. You have to suspend a lot of reality to read sci-fi romance. But, there is still a quality that most authors grasp. Michele Mills failed to do that. I'm wondering if this is her first in the genre, as everything about this book was rather weak to me. The audiobook narrator is really bad too. She made the book feel more juvenile. Don't waste your time with this one.

Lila is on the run and she has no ideal what she gets when she escapes and enter Zayzon’s room. The connection between both characters is explosive hot. Zayxons and his brother are bit of a slop and Lila is willing to be there housekeeper. The story plot is entertaining the sexy scenes . I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

The seven miners

With each new book I fall more in love with the Fever Brothers. Each one has their own set of quirks and I love that Claws changed his tune at the first sniff of his mate. This book was very seven dwarves esq with a decidedly wicked and dangerous twist. The author kept the story moving with action and emotions that made it impossible to put down until the very end. I enjoyed each moment of reading this story and I am looking forward to reading all about the next brother to test compatibility.

Interesting until it wasn’t. Inner dialogue were unnecessarily wordy. Wanted more from the secondary characters. The last 10% went at warp speed and some events were nonsensical.

Hilarity ensued. I liked the wholesome characters within the books, especially the MCs. I didn't expect the writer to actually make a social-hermit h to be the main character and made it really interesting without making it weird; I even doubt she was actually social-hermit as my reading progressed. . I liked how descriptive the writer to explain her and his circumstances and let us draw our own conclusion on their emotional dynamics.

Although it was implied in the blurb that there would be some show of actions. The actions scene were made up about 10% of the story along with the steaminess; yep, it was quite a slow burn this one.

Both virgin
One mate for life
No contraception
Alpha badass miner alien H, timid shy human heiress h
No cheating, No OW/OM, No drama/angst, HEA
Overall score: 4 interspecies love stars

Great Story & Narration🎧 A Fascinating Delight!
Big Bad Claws
The Fever Brothers, Book 2
By: Michele Mills
Narrated by: Lauren Sweet

This is my first Michele Mills’ book and consider me wowed, she is a gifted author with a creative and imaginative mind. She created a wonderful, out of this world, SciFi Romance with interesting storylines that are captivating from start to end. The fascinating characters are easy to relate and connect with. I adored the lead female character, Lila, her character growth was remarkable, she starts off as a weak and fragile person with issues, the rug gets pulled out from under her she needs to learn to cope and survive. Sent to a planet unknown she finds a place to hide out, thinking it was abandoned, she was surprised to find that was not the case, other surprises came her way too. One being in the form of a big, scary male Xylan named Claw, aka Zayzon. Thankfully Xylan’s were allies to humans unbeknownst to her Zayzon was much more than her ally he was her intended mate. I loved how everything plays out in this book, the story is cleverly plotted and there is never a dull moment. There is plenty of drama, some action, angst, twists and turns, thrilling and suspenseful moments, heartfelt and emotional ones and a wonderful romance. Michele Mills, thank you for this wonderfully entertaining story, I am looking forward to checking out more of your work.

I listened to the Audible edition, Lauren Sweet is a talented narrator and versatile voice artist. She does an awesome job portraying the characters, bringing them to life and humanizing them with their emotions and personality. She gives each character their own unique voice which makes it easy to follow the story and who is who. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another fantastic listen🎧📚🎧

The writing and editing of this sci-fi romance was clean in the ARC version of the manuscript, with no typos that I found and sparkling sentences. The world building was deftly described without stealing the show form the romance, which is important in a short sci-fi romance. The characterization is quite well done, considering how short this story is. The development of the romantic relationship is natural and organic, with the sexy times happening in the last 90% of the novel. The plot and pacing was exciting and quick. I was turning the pages rapidly to find out what was going to happen next. There was little angst and very high stakes in this story, which tends to be one of my preferred narrative structures for a romance novel. This novel used the Fated Mates trope, the Forced Proximity trope, the Partner in Trouble trope, and the Only One Bed trope. One of the fun things about this author is how she really layers the romance novel tropes. The world building, plot, and pacing were all four stars. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship were also four stars. The combined rating of this novel was therefore four stars. This story ends on a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger, so that is a big plus. I recommend this romance to fans of alien sci-fi romance which uses layered romance novel tropes. I look forward to reading the next book in this series when it releases. I will be buying myself a keeper copy of this novel.

Now if you haven't already picked this one up, what are you waiting for?

Big Bad Claws by Michele Mills had me hooked from the get go! Already a bit familiar with the world thanks to Mean Right Hook, I was immediately there with Lila as she experienced a whole lot of everything for the first time in a long time, and her circumstances, well, they totally make it understandable why she might be just a bit overwhelmed! But I fell for her snark, her character, her charm straight away, knowing I'd be rooting for her throughout.

And then there's Zayzon! Tall, gruff, loud, and with big claws, and that's not a euphemism, he's definitely experiencing things he'd never thought he would, and even while struggling to deal with all that, he is drawn to his mate. And nothing is going to get in his way.

The way Lila faces her fears, being so brave, it's inspiring! And her trying to do the right thing, the honorable thing, and Zayzon trying to do the same, it's a comedy of errors and sweet moments and laughter and every page just made it better!

P. S. Just wait until you meet Max. Max is adorable. I want a Max.

P. P. S. This dirty talk will have you in equal parts snorting with laughter and squirming in your seat! What better combination is there than that?

Basically, what are you waiting for? The Fever Brothers are waiting for you!

This is new to me alien romance series and author and I really enjoyed this short, funny and super adorable read. Lila is being hunted but she is saved by an assassin that her father helped and send to a random planet, she ends up in Minecorp Timbur where she sneaks around until she finds what looks like an abandoned " unlocked" dwelling where she seeks shelter. In true snow white fashion she ends up with 7 huge alien miner brothers (no 8 was exiled), where she inadvertently ends up in Zayzon (Claws) bed and he recognizes her as his mate and wants to mate and protect her. To protect the brothers she refuses to mate them and hides in the house where she cleans for them. There are some really fun, funny scenes and a viral video.

The chemistry between Zayzon and Lila was intense and sizzling and while he is huge and scary he is so sweet, lovable and protective with Lila and respected her wish not to mate for 1 month (moon cycle). Lila is a survivor, she is smart, strong and honorable and tries not to put the brothers in harms way. She knows she is attracted to Zayzon but she also knows she can't risk giving into her feelings.

The story line was an adaptation of snow white and the characters were well developed and you could not help but love them and relate to them.

This is my first ARC review and it’s a little late because booksprout didn’t work and I ended up buying it. So this is really and truly an uninfluenced review lol.

Anyway I would say this was okay, leaning towards good. I liked the characters and their chemistry, although I did think it moved a little quickly with them. The h was a little elementary for me, just slightly. Just in the way she talked and acted a bit

MILD SPOILER: I feel like the h kind of forgot or gave up on her whole situation which led her to come to where the H was. It kind of felt like the author did too because it wrapped up super quickly at the end. That felt kind of rushed. I get it was just a plot device to get her there, but still.

OH ANOTHER MINOR SPOILER, the H’s sister in law! I don’t think I’ve read the previous books (or I forgot about her character) because when she came to visit the vibe was so heavy that she was just pretending to be the sister in law and was going to kidnap or kill the h or something. I just kept getting the feeling that the stepmother had hired her to come get the h. I don’t know if I’m just a suspicious person or it was the way that scene was written but I was worried the whole time lol.

All in all I enjoyed it and don’t feel like I wasted my time. I would read the next one. Interested to see what happens with the other brothers and their stories.

Human Lila Garabedian is desperate for somewhere to hide where she can avoid detection and finds a condemned outbuilding at the edge of town and sleeps in a bunk that calls out to her due to its pleasing scent. However, the place is not abandoned and the Fever Brothers live there. When they return from the mine it becomes apparent that there is a woman sleeping in Xylan miner Zayzon of forty-five's bed. When they wake up Zayzon keeps standing too close to her, sniffing her hair and talking about mating compatibility. In order to stay hidden there, she offers to become their housekeeper (the brothers are really not good at cleaning). Lila keeps sleeping in Zayzon's bunk and it is becoming increasingly hard for her to avoid her attraction to him. But she really can't fall for anyone when demons from her past are looking for her. Can a human save an alien miner's life and avoid breaking his heart?

I enjoyed this story with the jeopardy of what Lila is running from as well as the pull between her and Zayzon. I could quite relate to her need to clean and tidy up their home - it sounds like a complete pigsty! It was great to read that Zayzon was made to pursue her and work for their mating - too often things like this are so quick and involve no work which feels slightly wrong. Easy to read and understand. Contains explicit sexual content.

Lila is the last member of her immediate family and she's set to inherit her father's shipping empire when she turns 21 at the end of the moon cycle. Too bad for her that her stepmother isn't on board with that plan. With assassins hot on her heels, Lila transports to a random planet and finds herself on the mining colony of Timbur. A dilapidated compound on the edge of town provides the perfect refuge, but it's not nearly as uninhabited as Lila assumed. When Claw finds the human female in his bed, it's apparent to him that he needs to do everything in his power to keep her there.

Quite a bit happened in the story, and yet I felt like the plot sort of plodded along until the very end, when it sudden sped up to 100 mph. That breakneck pace didn't last long, though. Everything wrapped up really quickly and smoothly. Lila was sweet and justifiably fearful, but survival was a pretty good motivator for getting her past her issues. I just wish she hadn't been so prone to rookie mistakes. Claw talked a big game and he definitely delivered. Considering he lives with six brothers, I'll be curious to see how the dynamic between them changes as their household continues to expand.

The series is so much fun. It's fast, sexy a and just a pleasure to read. Zayzon is the next Fever brother to find a human mate. He's got huge class and a huge personality to go with them. He swore her never mate and absolutely never mate a human. Well one never should say never😉😀 because that's exactly what happens. He comes home one night to find his home and room invaded by a delectable sent and knows he's finally found his mate now he just needs to convince her that he the male for her. Lila is an heiress who life is in danger from Assassins. In her escape she ends up on Timber looking for shelter from a terrible storm and she's up in the Fever brothers compound. Lila follows a wonderful sent and falls asleep when she wakes up her adventure truly begins. How do you stay off the grid, hide from killers, fall passionately in love and try to save those you care B
About at the same time.. Read on and find out! This has become quite the enjoyable way for me to spend an evening. I can't wait to read more and see which brother will call next. I plan to read Daxon 's story also but it's part of another series I love finding new authors and binge reading!💖💖💖💖💖💖

The next brother has scented his mate and...well, he's going to have to live down his words about NEVER mating a humans, isn't he?

Yep, Zayzon's up and he's not used to being rejected. Not that he's a creep about it, mind you, but with every mama and eligible female wanting to get their hand on his claws (HA) he sort of has to wrap his head around someone NOT frothing at the mouth to test compatibility with him. Since Lila doesn't want to bring her troubles down on Zayzon and his family, she HAS to say no. Right?

Speaking of the family, MAN those brothers are slobs. Lila is a peach (or just plain desperate) for offering to clean up around the house in exchange for a safe place to hide out. (And fortunately for Zayzon's brothers, her love of organizing is going to come in handy when they start meeting their special someones. No bride wants to set up house in a messy bachelor pad, amirite?!?!)

A little rejection, a little danger, a family that has each others' backs (and I'm not talking about Lila's family, either!), and a cuddly beast of a miner. It turns out sweaty miners are fun! So much fun!

This book grabs your attention and keeps you riveted until the very end! amazingly detailed and beautifully vivid descriptions of Timbur make this fantastical adventure romance feel so real. But I must admit, I loved the parallels with Snow White. Imagining the large, clawed, aggressive Fever Brother as the 7 dwarves gave me quite a laugh! Zayzon, or Claws, is the largest and most arrogant of the brothers. He's also the sweetest to his mate, so determined that she his is Bride. Lila, in true Snow White fashion, is a corporate princess on the run from assassins her step-mother has set on her trail. I love how Lila sees Zayzon, that this huge, hulking, beast of a man needs her protection and love just as much as she needs him. I adored seeing more of the Fever Brothers, and learning more about their individual personalities. I can't wait to find out more about the Fever brother's history, and am very much looking forward to seeing each brother find his Bride. This is a book any scifi romance fan should read!

Lila and Zayzon

Lila has lost her father, and her step mother is her friend - or is she? In a twist an assassin helps her escape her clutches. A random transport lands her on a wet, rain soaked planet. Finding an abandoned house she follows a scent that appeals to her. The Fever Brothers arrive home. Just that one of them is going to find his Bride to be!

This is such a sweet instalove steamy romance with lots of cute moments with Lila trying to hide (and failing) her attraction to Zayzon. Zayzon has no doubts that she is his Bride! He takes an oath to put her honour above his - and he does - putting her first (swoon!!) The story is well written, fast paced, with lots of chemistry between them. The characters are likeable relatable and compelling to read with their backstory and the secondary characters of Zayzon's brothers and crews. This sibling teasing and unwavering support really hooked me into the story. Told from dual POVs reveals intimately their thoughts, feelings, and emotions as they explore their relationship. There's plenty of action, twists and turns making it a page turner!!! There's an HFN ending. Highly recommended!!!

An heiress with an evil stepmother has run away, with the help of an assassin, and found herself on an alien planet in the bed of one of eight brothers, miners all, and definitely not dwarfs.

She's pale with black hair (hint:Snow White?), they are huge burly miners who all go by nicknames like Claws, and Cannibal( still not dwarfs though). She is on the run from the stepmother who had her mother and brother killed, and now has a bounty on her head, dead before twenty one means step mamma becomes super rich, and twenty one is four weeks away! She found this disreputable building on the edge of the jungle, the locks opened to her, she found a bed that smelled great, so she stripped off her wet clothes and went to sleep. When Claws came home from the mine and found a naked human girl in his bed he smelled her, and smelled his fated mate. But he doesn't speak English, and she doesn't speak his language either, so it's off to the medical center for a translator, and a surprise, he's claiming her as his Bride. Uh oh. Assassins on one hand and a hunky miner wanting to mate her forever on the other!

Zayzon was tired of not finding his mate so he took himself off the mate registry, Lila was afraid of everything so she never left home. Circumstances force her into leaving home and she ends up in Zayzon’s bed, he can smell right away that she’s his mate. She is drawn to him, but she’s more concerned with what’s going on back home. She rejects him (he is kind and knows he just has to try harder) but she won’t give a reason. I love how protective, patient and loving he is towards her. She gives back by cleaning up after them and treating them well, but it was irritating that she wouldn’t explain what she was running from, she wouldn’t talk about why she was afraid of everything and she does a couple of really stupid things. Everything works out- but I so wanted to shake her and point out that Zayzon could easily take care of her problem, if she would only confide in him. That all being said- the writing was great, the story was engaging, I enjoyed reading about his HEA, I love all the brothers and cannot wait for the next book.

While this works as a standalone, it is actually the second (not counting the prequel) story about the Fever brothers. They are big and bad and dangerous miners. Lila is on the run from danger when she finds an abandoned outbuilding. She sneaks in for a night to sleep and after checking the beds, she settles into the only one that "feels" right.

The house is NOT unoccupied and she meets the Fever Brothers who can't keep house. They are Xylan miners and she's sleeping in the bunk of the biggest, baddest of them, Zayzon. He stands too close but she can hold her own and takes over as the housekeeper. She continues to sleep in Zayzon's bunk at his insistence and the attraction spikes. But danger still faces her.

Loved this story. It was a fast and easy read and totally fun. Lila is strong enough and the danger real enough for the story to flow. Zayzon knows she's his and even though he's big and bad to everyone else, he's putty in her hands. They were both great. We still have other brothers. I'm ready!

This is the second book in this alien/human romance series. I really enjoyed the first one and I knew the second one was going to be just as good. More details would be nice, but there is enough to keep your interest in the book and to keep the pages turning. Lila lives on new earth, her family is extremely wealthy, too bad she’s the only one left with her stepmother. And thanks to an assassin with a heart Lila is still alive and sent quickly off planet to someplace she did not know? Zayzon and his brothers were exhausted, they worked a double shipped in the minds and now they come home to find their door open. What he wasn’t expecting was to find a tiny human naked in his bed. But one smell of her scent told him that she belong to him. Of course Lila was attracted to “Claws“ and he was being so sweet to her, and would do anything for her, but she had to keep him safe. Others were after her and she had to keep her secret. I really enjoyed this book, and don’t we all wish we had a guy like Claws to stick up for us. Loved the happily ever after. Can’t wait for the next one.
