Old Flame: a Bean Counter mystery

Rate this book
What do you say when a beautiful Hollywood star comes to you for help?
What if she’s also the college girlfriend who broke your heart?

If you’re chronically underemployed forensic accountant Nick Rohmer, happily living with your new girlfriend, you say, “Sure, why not?”

Which is the wrong answer.

Young, beautiful, and famous, Mai Linh is in South Florida to film a new season of her TV show. She turns to Nick when she discovers that someone has stolen her life savings. And, she’s pretty sure that she knows who did it – septuagenarian Hollywood producer Derrik Sinclair, who also happens to be her husband.

Then things get serious when a dead body turns up in Mai’s apartment.

As usual, Nick tries to help. But with the paparazzi on his doorstep, old feelings welling to the surface, and a seriously pissed off girlfriend, things get complicated fast.

Will Nick find the money, solve the murder, and get the girl before time runs out? And if he gets the girl, which one will it be?

Forensic accountant Nick Rohmer is asked by Mai Linh, a woman he dated in college who became a television actress, to find out what her husband has done with her money. But no good deed goes unpunished. Nick ends up in the middle of a murder investigation, and in big trouble with Tina, his current girlfriend, as well. He also has an unwanted "15 minutes of fame" on tabloid TV. On the bright side, perhaps the publicity will generate business for him later on.

This latest installment in the Bean Counter mysteries is as much a delight as the first two books! Seeing how Nick handles two girlfriends (old and new) while following the money trail makes for an exciting book and a fun read. A nice tight plot, good characters and a couple of zanies make this an engaging book.
