Trent and Hayden have been together for as long as they can remember.

Best friends. Boyfriends. Now lovers looking to discover a new side of their relationship, all they want is to be together and to get out of the poverty that surrounds them at every turn. Unfortunately, Trent knows that with family stacked against them and the secrets Hayden must hide, it won’t be easy. But he’ll protect Hayden with everything he has.

No matter what he has to hide from everyone else, all Hayden has ever needed was Trent’s love and acceptance—and he’s always had it. No matter how different he felt or what he confessed to Trent, Hayden has always known Trent would be right there beside him. But with wolves closing in at the door and desperation rising, he knows finishing high school and getting away might be harder than they’d ever expected.

Surrounded by anger and people who would never understand their relationship, they know college will be their safe haven, but only if they can fight the deck that seems to be stacked against them.

So sweet. Love this book

Originally read April 2020

My reading has been shit lately so I've been desperately looking for low-angst books I can read without being stressed out any further than I already am. I happened across this. All the reviews said it was sweet but it is definitely out of my comfort zone (age-play) I've read a few DDlb books that were waaayyy mild (I'm talking maybe a teddy bear and come coloring) and while I still think this is probably on the milder side of things (no diapers here) it was still out of my comfort zone. BUT, this had to be one of the sweetest books I've ever read. I loved every minute (yes, even the gowns and panties, pacifier and doll).

These two stole my heart. Both "trailer trash" just trying to escape their lives and become something better. Even at a young age, Trent took care of Hayden, even before Hayden became Hailey, he did everything he could to protect Hayden and allow him to be himself. They were absolutely perfect for each other.

Parts of it were a bit unrealistic to me but even with that, these two were just too sweet and precious for me to even care. It was just what I was looking for.

This was cute and sweet, despite these boys being teens and living in a trailer park with their abusive families. It was still fluffy and kinky like only M.A. Innes can write.

Now I really liked the fluffiness of this, and I actually really liked the HEA these guys got. Most authors don’t go there because it feels too unrealistic, and that might be true, but that was not even the part that felt unrealistic to me.

I’m not really a fan of YA/NA with the accompanying teenage angst, but I knew this was M.A. Innes we’re talking about. So any angst is minimal.

Trent and Hayden live in a trailer park and have been best friends almost all their lives. Hayden lives with his abusive father and Trent with his mother and grandmother.

This book starts with them being 8 years old and Hayden asking Trent to hide his ‘treasures’. The girl clothes he sometimes likes to dress up in, and ‘be fancy’ as Trent calls it. When they’re 14 they become boyfriends, but decide to wait to have sex until they’re both 18.

When they’re finally 18, they plan a special evening together. Not just to finally have sex, but also to explore what they’ve both been curious about for years: age-play. Trent understands that Hayden would love to just let everything go and let Trent be his Daddy. Trent is dominant enough to understand they both really fit into the roles of Daddy and little.

But they still have 3 months until graduation and until they can go to college and be together…

I liked two things. I liked how these boys were basically soulmates and were deeply in love with each other for most of their lives and at 18 were ready to face the world together. I also liked the cuteness of the age-play.

But… these two don’t mix well. 18 year old boys doing age-play just felt very unrealistic to me. I tried to look at those two things as separate, but that didn’t work out so well.

So while I loved how this was pretty angst free, I wasn’t too sold on the age-play at such a young age….

3.5 Stars

I wish I could split Without Limits into thirds in order to rate it. I’m waffling between 3 and 4 stars, and this is why:

The opening scenes where Innes introduces the characters and establishes their relationship are wonderful! The connection between Trent and Hayden is compelling and completely genuine. These two young boys opening up to each other, taking comfort and offering support? Just perfect.

Once they turn 18 the young men check into a hotel for a glorious evening of intimacies. They've played around a bit and done some research, but this is the first time they're able to fully explore without the fear of being discovered.

Innes uses alternating points-of-view to get deep inside each of the characters and show us how they feel about their experiences. Trent’s delighted reactions as he tries on his Daddy/Dom role are charming. I love watching his confidence grow with each new aspect of age-play he introduces to Hayden. And Hayden’s pure bliss as he sets aside the worries of the world and becomes Hailey is heartwarming.

Events at the end didn’t work for me in the way I would have liked. It’s not just what happens to them, but also how quickly it all wraps up. I don’t want to give anything away here, but for me, it didn’t fit with the tone of the book or the emotions M.A. Innes had generated throughout the rest of the story.

A sweet coming of age romance, with nicely developed characters and a good amount of drama. Unfortunately the ending didn't work for me.

⭐️ 3.5/5 – Heartbreaking backstory, sweet payoff.
🌶 2.5/5 – Not all spice hits right... but Daddy still made it sweet.

This book hit me right in the damn chest. 😮‍💨 It's an MM DDlb age play romance about two boys—Trent and Hayden—who survived the kind of childhoods that NO ONE ever should’ve gone through. The financial stress, the emotional neglect, the domestic abuse… yeah, it wasn’t easy to read. My heart ached for them, but it made their happy ending all the more meaningful. 😭🥹

Even as kids, their bond was adorable. Trent was such a sweet, accepting little bean, and Hayden? Gosh, my poor boy deserved all the love and safety in the world. Watching Trent grow up into this kind, good-hearted man who saw and embraced all of Hayden—every part of him—was beautiful. They were just meant to be. 🥰💞

Now, as for the kink/dynamics… it was a bit much for me personally. The Daddy and age play bits? Love it! It was cute, heartwarming, even spicy in parts. But the Dom/sub, “Sir” stuff? Yeah… didn’t do it for me. I guess I’m just more of a Daddy’s girl through and through. 🙂‍↕️😌

And to every shitty parent out there who abuses, neglects, or abandons their kids—I wish you all nothing but pain and suffering. 💩🖕🏻

Quotes:

My grandma called him a pack rat in training, but I didn’t think he looked like a rat. She’d just laughed when I told her that. He was kind of scrawny but not creepy looking and didn’t have to be chased out with the broom, so I didn’t get it.
-
“But are you a girl? They sometimes don’t have much boobs either. Like Annie down the street. She’s old enough to date and don’t got no boobs.” Grandma said she was just a late bloomer, but I wasn’t sure what flowers had to do with it.
-
I gave him a hug but maybe it was too hard because he kind of squeaked like a dog toy that I’d stepped on. “Sorry.”
Had I broken him?
-
“Do you like your dick? I don’t think you get to keep that if you get turned into a girl.”
“I want to keep that.”
“Okay. So you’re a boy who likes to get fancy.”
-
When everything was simple and just a matter of understanding that everyone liked different things, life hadn’t been that complicated.
-
I didn’t know why I was surprised. This was the guy who at eight had decided it was cool if I liked dresses just because he hadn’t wanted to see me cry.
-
“I love my needy, slutty boy. Don’t ever forget that.”
He was everything I’d ever wanted.
-
“Do you like it when I play with your titties? I bet you’d like my mouth on your pretty titties.”
-
“Have I told you recently how much I love you?”
“No, it’s been hours since I heard it. You’re falling behind.”
-
“Who do you belong to, boy?”
“You. Always you.”
-
“One of these days I’m going to slip a ring on your finger and we’re going to buy me a pretty dress and I’m going to get the most incredible present I’ve been dreaming about since I was a kid.”

“Baby. Just when I think nothing in the world could make our life better, you surprise me with something else. I’ve never loved anyone or anything more than I love you. You’ve been in my heart since before I knew what love was, and I can’t imagine life without you.”

“And you’ll never have to.”

I usually enjoy these stories but this one was a little all over the place for me. Daddy, then Dom - the mix felt wrong in the way it was written. While I loved the conclusion for the boys it really was a one in a million !

Trent and Hayden have been best friends since they were children. I truly adored 8 year old Trent and Hayden. Trent’s acceptance of Hayden’s treasures (his “fancy” clothes) was adorable. The abuse these boys suffered was abhorrent. How they survive is a miracle. They have a truly, unbelievable fairytale ending. It’s cute, but so unbelievable. I’m not sure how to rate this.

reread 4/25/2020 seriously, 8 year old Trent and Hayden are heartbreaking and adorable at the same time. I think this could have easily been a 4.5 to five star read if not for the rushed (and completely unbelievable) ending. It like someone said told the author that the book was getting too long and needed to end. now... We really needed another chapter or at least an epilogue.

Sweetly Kinky!

A best friends to lovers with a dose of D/s and age-play for your kinky pleasures!

These two boys have grown up together, surviving a poor and often violent life. We see their friendship grow from 8, to 13, to 16, to 18 years old. Along that path they discover themselves, their desires, and their fierce need for one another.

Despite the ugly backdrop of their lives, this is a super sweet and fluffy romance!!

Wow. I loved these guys so much!!
It's no secret that this author is a favourite of mine and books like this are the reason why!!

The way she captured 8 year old Trent and Hayden was perfect. The best friends were drawn straight into my heart and that's where they stayed. I loved their sassy innocence and devotion to each other.

"Hayden looked up at me and I could see he was going to cry.
Shit.
Grandma hated when I cussed, but I had a feeling this was a "shit" kind of moment."

Trent was so good for Hayden Always loving and supporting him.

"There is nothing I wouldn't have done for you, you're right. But that's because I knew how special you were. You were the most amazing person, and I'd have done anything to keep you in my life."

A beautiful story of friendship, devotion and love with all the ups and downs you'd expect and a few suprises.

Highly recommend!!

Ok, I finished the book. But...I don’t know what it is about this that triggered my imagination, but from the beginning scenes when they were 8 yso and Hayden dressed “fancy”, this disturbing image popped in my head:
I open the door to a room and stand frozen as my brain assimilates what’s before me. A man? Yes, a balding, trim male sits on the floor, legs crossed, wearing a little girl style pink dress. In his hands is a doll he’s hunched over as he brushes her hair with a tiny doll brush.
He hears me open the door and looking up with an unfocused gaze and creepy smile asks, “Want to play dollies with me?”

Oy my brain. No clue why I can’t disassociate this creepy image with the characters, but it’s why I can’t rate or review the book and I’m hiding this as ‘spoiler’ lol 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤪

Ah, M.A. Innes, how do you know just what I want? I chose this book after reading Christopher & Ethan which mentioned Hayden and Trent (our main characters in this book). What made me want to pick it up was the age play dynamic they had. I love age play, but seldom find a book that fits with how I would like to engage with age play. So, lets jump into this lovely story.

We meet Trent and Hayden at the tender age of 8. They live in a trailer park and life is not easy.
Hayden is frequently physically abused by his father and Trent lives with his grandmother while his mother is out with men/partying and just generally not around.

The love between these two is unflappable since the very beginning. Trent feels a strong need to protect Hayden and keep him safe so it is easy for them to transition into a daddy dom/boy type of relationship. My only problem with the book is that I wish it hadn't have ended where it did and we got to see more of these two explore their happily ever after. That's just me though.

Short. Sweet. Light age play, HEA, M/M, romance, financial struggles
TW: physical abuse

I always want to read Shaw Montgomery/M. A Innes when she puts a new book out. I received an ARC for this review. I loved that the story starts when the MCs are 8 and goes up until they're 18. The connection these two have is nothing short of beautiful. The way Trent protects Hayden, just naturally transitions into their "sexy times". I hope she writes a follow up book. I would love to see how they are doing as adults.

MA Innes brings us such wonderful characters and this book introduces us to Trent and Hayden. Both men are simply so completely connected and devoted to each other that the sweetness drips off the page. The backstory shared at the beginning of the book is adorable and highlights the inner core of each person.
It's a tale of struggle and devotion with the sweetness and heat you should expect from MA Innes.

There was no limit to what we could do with that kind of love between us.

This was okay! A friends to lovers story about a young couple exploring kink and getting out of their abusive homes. I hesitate to call it a novella, because it barely has a plot; it just reads like a really long vignette. I can actually like stories where there's no relationship conflict, but since this was pretty much an established romance (we get two chapters when they're young, and then the story picks up when they're 18) we don't really get any of the getting together stuff, which is my favourite thing about romance. Definitely sexy, and kinda wholesome to see them both encouraging each other to be their authentic selves, and live as they want to. But there was something about the writing that I just didn't love; it felt jerky and stilted. And the external conflict wasn't written well enough to be the gut-punch it needed to be.

Still not a bad read. I'll always be a sucker for intense first love, and this was that.

My Opinion:
Hayden and Trent are childhood friends who are the closest you can get to real world fated mates. Both from broken homes in the trailer park, they learned fast who they can trust and rely on, and it was not many. This story goes through their lives and how they escaped that life while learning more about themselves and their relationship. Super cute! This is my second time reading it and I think I enjoyed it more this time around. Trent puts so much work into their “first date”, absolutely adorable. He just loves Hayden so much. I really wanted to watch Brent and Hayden’s dad both get their asses handed to them! I loved how we got the inner monologue from Trent about his nerves and wanting to do good and all that. It was nice to read something that seemed more honest instead of someone becoming a dom/daddy and just doing great with no problems. They were so lucky to have Grandma, loved Hayden calling her Grandma, too. And how they had their first place? And it was going to be great? Ugh my heart. Loved their relationship. These two came out so sweet and good after what they came from.

What a sweet, sweet story. I'd gotten a glimpse of Hayden and Trent in Christopher & Ethan. They were Christopher's friends and the only people who knew his secret kinks until Ethan came into his world.

Hayden and Trent's story starts in a rundown trailer park when they're both eight-years-old. The best of friends, they share everything. Hayden lives with an abusive drunk of a dad. Trent lives with his amazing grandmother and absent mother. We then see them eight years later when they're not just best friends but boyfriends. That had started somewhat when they were younger but they were too young then. Each boy is anxiously waiting for their eighteenth birthday and high school graduation so they can get away from the trailer park and go to college together. When they're both eighteen things change for them in a lot of ways but I can't say much more than that.

I liked Trent throughout the book. I absolutely fell in love with him on Hayden's eighteenth birthday. He knew exactly what Hayden needed and went out of his way to make sure it was perfect. I adored Hayden.

I don't usually read books when the characters are teenagers and in high school. This book was different because I was able to see their relationship grow from friendship as young boys to what they had at eighteen and beyond. There was never any doubt that they'd always be together.

I absolutely loved it.

Re-read 11/7-8/19: I can't wait to see these two interacting more at the playdate -- finally ready to read Friends Lovers and Family! Yaaaayyyy!

Trent and Hayden are amazing. Despite being dirt poor and the awful parents they've got, they're kind and loving and simply wonderful. The first chapter is when the boys are eight years old, and Trent is the most adorably accepting person I think I've ever met. By chapter two, they boys are sixteen, and they've nearly reached the lovely potential they showed eight years before. Then, at chapter three, a year and a half later, they finally both hit eighteen and can see the path leading out of the craptastic place they grew up...if they can manage the last three months to the end of their senior year. The author has given these boys a challenge to escape, but she also gave them Trent's Grandma, who is never seen on page. She's pretty amazing herself, despite not being able to protect them fully. I'd love to see more of these two when they finally reach college, maybe when they connect with other lovely boys who like kink...(hint hint!)

I feel like M.A. Innes can do me no wrong. This story of childhood best friends to lovers was beautiful. I loved the chapters dedicated to different stages of their lives to establish how deep their relationship was and how they've been boyfriends since 13 years old. The HEA in this is unrealistic, yes, but you know what? They fucking deserve it. I'm here for escapism, not realism that they'd probably be struggling with homelessness as the story was going.

Anyway, this features Daddy/little (but no ABDL) dynamics, feminine clothing, and sweetness. A review said it felt unlikely that 18 y/os could dabble in Daddy/little dynamics, but it's even discussed how they've been talking about it since they were 16 and the research they did. Teens and the internet, amirite? It's not like they got whips and started doing some rather dangerous play. I don't think it's difficult for someone to sit down with a coloring book.

This book was adorable and a little heartbreaking. I absolutely loved the in depth back story provided at the beginning. It really helped to understand the relationship between Hayden and Trent. The beginning was a little sad but you can clearly see the love between these two. Not the best but still cute

Look I love Shaw Montgomery and I especially enjoy her work under her pen name M.A. Innes so ultimately I did enjoy this...kind of. It was cute, the smut sweet, and the angst low. Things I've come to expect from this author and enjoy. But like...I'm struggling to find a nice way to say nothing happens and I was bored.

This isn't a bad book mind you, not at all, and there are people that will love this. I know this author's audiences, I'm a part of it but cute just isn't enough any more. At least for me. I know it can be hard to make a book stand out but it is possible. Annoy people with the fluff, go balls to the wall with the kink, do something! Have I read so much M.A. Innes that a lot of her books are starting to blend together? Maybe but you could say that about any author with a huge blacklist that's sticks to one genre so I don't think that checks this time. Truth is I love daddy book, MM and MF. Hell they could be MMM or MMF and I'm still down. But that's just it. I've read so many daddy books that this was boring. And if you're in the same boat as me, you'll probably feel the same.

There's not much to critique here because like I said this isn't a bad book. I mean, I kind of felt like I didn't really know Hayden or Trent buth that's only because they weren't the complex and complicated characters I've come to really enjoy seeing in romance. And that's fine! Not everything needs to be emotional and Lord knows I love fluff and much as the next basic bitch. But does it make me a bad person to say I need something to keep my attention? Their story did have its moments but this really was just about them being together and going on this kinky journey together. It's that's your jush, read it and love it. But to my fellow freaks, I think we all know that reading about two novice kind of makes for a pretty boring story after awhile. And it's not like she can't do the opposite, we all read Austin. And if you haven't go do that now, I'll wait.

Also this is kind of random but I really hated the first chapter. Seriously what 8 year old acts like that? The answer is none.

Anyways, like I said this book was fine. There was even a little bit of suspense thrown in (kinda sorta not really). If you like sweet daddies with cute femm boys, you'll enjoy this. Just don't expect much else. 3 star because while I'm not mad I read it, I was bored. I also high key skimmed a lot so maybe I'll just take the L on this one and walk away.

The boys are very young in the early chapters – starting with their childhood when Hayden climbs through Trent’s window to escape his abusive father and spend the night with his best friend through their teens. By the time they are 18, they are waiting to finish high school so they can use scholarships to go to college and escape their families. Hayden’s father is verbally abusive and is portrayed as a drunken bully who becomes disabled and doesn’t do much more than bully him and sit around all day. Trent’s mother is portrayed as a loser going from man to man. He’s lived with this grandmother as primary caretaker most of his life. Grandma dies a few months before his 18th birthday and Mom apparently has a boyfriend who is out for himself, undermining Trent’s efforts to get away. Sound familiar? Yes. Done before. Many times. The only good thing about the early parts is that it established their relationship and showed some sweet moments together.

After the intro chapters, I felt like I was wading through mud because the boys had so much against them and I kept expecting they’d be caught together or somehow separated. Those parental figures loomed large as outright bullies. Trent and Hayden have gone from besties to boyfriends by Hayden’s 18th birthday celebration at a hotel where they’ve finally allowed Hayden’s “little” to come out without risk of being interrupted and Trent’s “Daddy” to emerge more fully. I don’t doubt this situation could happen, but I felt out of my comfort zone watching these events unfold and the two teens have their explicit birthday celebration.

I kept reading instead of simply putting this on the DNF shelf because...need I say more than “bingo challenge”? To be honest, there was nothing about this story that stood out. It’s same story, different book for the poor teen who has to escape an abusive situation, except there are two teens and one is a dominant Daddy. Too many chapters were devoted to long descriptive phrases of their past, their hopes and dreams, and then rehashing all over again, sprinkled with a ton of internal angst. The ending was not to be believed and was a quick wrap with a guaranteed HEA. Honestly, the more I think back on this, the lower my rating goes.

Trent and Hayden are best friends, boyfriends and now lovers looking to discover a new side of their relationship - they just want to be together and get out of the poverty that is all around them. Trent knows that their families and the secrets that Hayden has to hide for now it is not going to be easy, but he'll protect him with everything that he has. All Hayden has ever needed was Trent's love and acceptance which he has always had as no matter what he confessed to him he knows Trent will be there. As things start to escalate they know that finishing high school and getting away might be harder than they’d ever expected. They know that others will never understand their relationship they just know that college will be a safe haven for them if they can fight the deck which is stacked against them.

I adored this story all about their relationship, the issues they had to face within their own families as well as the wider community and how they stuck together through thick and thin. I loved Grandma - she was just SO cool and I am sure she was watching over them and tweaking fate to give them a break. The love between the two guys was just so pure and so all-encompassing that it made me smile from ear to ear. Easy to read, feel and understand. Contains MM mature content with BSDM-like elements.

🌈🧸Without Limits // MA Innes🧸🌈

✨I LOVE a good coming of age, sexual discovery story - make that a K!nk discovery, exploration story and my lil queer kinkster heart IS ALL IN! ✨

❤️‍🩹Without Limits, is the story of childhood best friends, Trent and Hayden overcoming all of the odds to build the love and lives that they deserve. Their situations are bleak and sweet, subbie Hayden’s love of feminine things only adds to the danger in their environment. But his Daddy Dom Trent, loves and protects every part of him! The way these two are devoted to each other and protect and support each other is absolutely beautiful. ❤️‍🩹

🔥How these two come of age together, explore and adapt with their k!nks and support each others discoveries is just beautiful and sexy as well.

This is a coming of age, k!nk discovery must read. MA INNES is so talented at writing emotion and k!nk and this book is incredibly hot and pulls at the heart strings at the same time! 🔥

Trent & Hayden

This one eventually links to the kinky college series, but only in the what happens next sense. No familiar characters on stage.

Trent and Hayden were neighbors in a trailer park, as well as best friends. Hayden’s father was abusive, and Trent’s grandmother was generous when it came to feeding Hayden and letting him stay over.

At eight, Hayden came to Trent asking him to hide his bag of treasures. Girl’s clothing. In the complete unjaded honesty of childhood, Trent asked if he wanted to be a girl, if he wanted boobs, if he wanted to keep his dick. Hayden just wanted to dress up, nothing more.

Unfazed, Trent only asked that they share everything. No secrets. That lead to Hayden confessing he wanted to kiss Trent, like a boyfriend. So Trent gave Hayden a kiss. Hayden put on a silky nightgown. And they curled up in bed together.

By 13, they were boyfriends, though they kept private.

At 16, Trent confronted Hayden about his search history. Hayden had been looking up BDSM. They already had a natural D/s dimension to their relationship, but Hayden was interested in age play.

Not wanting to mess any of their carefully arranged plans for college, they decided to hold off on sex till they were 18. Hayden’s birthday hit at spring break, Trent’s was a month before. For Hayden’s birthday, they went to a steakhouse and then Trent rented a hotel room so they could finally consummate their relationship. Starting with a frilly little dress and pink lace panties for Hailey.

Their first time was everything either of them could have wished for. Trent’s grandmother who died a few months prior left them a combined birthday card with $200 and suggested they do something fun, maybe buy a few lottery tickets.

Only things changed when they got home. Trent’s mother’s boyfriend found Hayden’s trunk of treasures and was on the verge of opening it with bolt cutters. He and Trent fought and the asshole swung the bolt cutters, breaking Trent’s arm.

They packed up Trent’s car and found a motel room, swearing to find a way to make due until their college scholarships kicked in. At least they were together, no more need to hide.

Then grandmother gave them one last gift. One of the lottery tickets: they won the multi million dollar top prize. They bought a cute little 3 bedroom house near the college, but Trent refused to give up his shoes with a hole in the toe.

***

I’m guessing the cover image is supposed to be Trent. He doesn’t feel like Hayden to me.

This was really interesting to me. The spice was great however it was just not believable to me. And normally that is never a complaint I would make about a novel. I love a bit of fantastical elements or over the top romance but being that these characters were 18, most of their education was from p*rn, and it was their first time having sex they just seemed like seasoned pros. The story felt like it was only half complete. I knew it was short but I kept waiting for the jump into the future so we could see how their lives progressed when they were actual adults. So overall not the best, probably wouldn’t recommend.
