This book is a compilation of mostly excerpts from larger texts in regard to the Materialist Dialectic, with a few short but whole texts as well.
Overall, it is very eye-opening. For me, it was even more so given I had read certain texts already, such as “Anti-Duhring”, “Dialectics of Nature” & “Materialism & Empirio-Critcism”. They laid a good foundation to help with the other texts I had not read at all.
Marx & Engels never put a text fully explaining the materialist dialectic though they had planned to. Texts such as these will have to suffice until such a time a full exposition can be written.
This book & the others mentioned do give incredible insight as to the Marxist method as a tool for analysis. Just as chemistry or biology or physics as sciences function according to their own rules & inner logic & their respective rules & logic are not interchangeable, so it is with human society, which for us right now, is dominated by Capitalism. Once that is understood, it makes it easier to understand how society operates dialectically & stresses the importance in understanding how, which is no small task but it must be done.
Overall, it’s a good book. In pursuit of my understanding of the materialist dialectic, I’m not sure I’ve gotten all the answers I’ve been searching for but I’m a certain that if I haven’t, I’m definitely closer.
