An asset. An experiment.
A liability. A freak.
I'm all those things
And so much more.
The Phoenix Group might have all the power
But underestimating someone with nothing left to lose will be their downfall.
They took the only thing in my life that was pure and untainted
And destroyed it, leaving behind nothing but rubble and ash.
Now there’s nothing but revenge on my mind and rage in my heart.
They left me to burn, trapped behind a wall of fire and flames.
But the girl I once was is now a monster of their own making.
They should have remembered that a Phoenix cannot be beaten with fire.
From the ashes, I will rise
And vengeance will be mine.

Well I’m not overly pleased with such an open ended conclusion. I get that it’s a HFN and the next series will continue on from another characters pov but I really could have done with a more satisfactory and final feeling ending for Ro/Phoenix and her guys. I’m also a little torn because there’s really not a lot of time for her to reconnect with Fox and his guys before she’s locked up and adding two more guys. Three if you count the most overlooked guy of the bunch that was added out of nowhere and so briefly glossed over I’m still questioning it. Aside from how much is included in the book, I also felt like there was so much left out. Not only that but I really expected more explosions and carnage than I got. Yet even with all that I really did enjoy the book and will look forward to where this author takes everyone next. Syn being ‘special’ is certainly intriguing and I can’t wait to learn more about her. Hope we get glimpses of Phoenix and her guys because his girl really needs some semblance of a HEA to live.

"I need to get the fuck out of this place, and away from this camp before I become known as the woman who collects men."

I'm sorry girl, but you already are- You do be out there collecting men.

description

Anyhoo, I didn't really enjoy this one because the premise really didn't make any damn sense to me. Why did they take her to that facility other than for a plot device? I know they wanted to take down the facility....but

I would understand if Ro (wasn't really understanding that nickname change either..I mean you think being on the run you'd want a less outstanding name than Romance...but eh) meant to go there for the specific reason of saving the super powered people at that compound but that didn’t even seem like an option until she was already there – why was she even there?

I mean did they even need to be 'on the inside' if the initial goal wasn't to free the prisoners? Instead of just taking out Nikki in the beginning and running-they then had to escape a compound....

description

But beside that- I still don't know if I could forgive the guys

Yaaayy! I don't know why but I really feel like cheering for Ro's happy ending right now. So cute. But... At the same time, poor Syn. You'll know it when you read it ladies. I'm so excited.

Cameron Miller is dead, and from her ashes has risen Romance Fennec, a better, deadlier and stronger version of her dead counterpart. Her heart bleeds for her brother but with it, she also has the burning desire to bring down the organization that has destroyed her life along with countless others'. After a year of plotting and training, Ro is ready to face her demons head on strolls into the devil's dungeon with the single intention of bringing the whole group down. At her time there, she bonds with the other captives and with her family of misfits, Ro must fight for freedom and hopefully, restore her heart in the process.

A satisfying conclusion to the duet. We have more men added to the harem. Again, I don't know what to write without giving away any spoilers. So..... *Shrugs*

"If you try to get off this bed once more, Nemo, I'll spank your ass before tying you to it."
I stare up at him in shock. "You're insane," I whisper.
"Tell me something I don't know," he says, his breath skating over my face.

"When you can't breathe, I'll be the air in your lungs. When your legs give out, Nate will carry you home. When you're scared, AJ and Levi will fight your demons until they are bruised and bloody and when your heart is hurting, we'll love you enough to remind you to keep fighting and never give up," Fox vows, making me sob harder.

"Calm down." Before I spontaneously orgasm and die of embarrassment.

"Love is rarely neat, Ro. It's messy and destructive and all-consuming. You can't expect souls to collide with each other without them sustaining some damage along the way. But if it's the real deal, the kind of love where you can't take a breath without them, then you'll find a way to make it work. All the greatest love stories are shrouded in tragedy. You just have to be willing to fight for it even if you already know it will leave you bloody and scarred. Win or lose, Ro. You have to choose which option you can live with."

"What would you do if it was you and your guys were out there somewhere and you knew you could save them all?"
"Everything," I admit and I feel Fox jolt beside me.
"I would scale mountains, fight monsters and take bullets if it meant saving them. There is nothing in this world that would stop me," I tell her truthfully and close my eyes.

If it was any lesser book, I would probably be rolling my eyes at the dialogues but I just can't make myself do it to this book.

Ro is one of the strongest humans I have ever met. I mean, Ro is not a normal human but from what I can tell, her enhanced abilities don't have any effect on her brain, it is purely physical. Just because she can wield fire and heal in the blink of the eye doesn't mean her brain becomes smarter all of a sudden or something. I know it sounds confusing but the mental trauma Ro must have gone through the duet... *shudders* .

I don't think I have ever read an RH where one man controls the relationship and the others accept his authority. Nope. It didn't bother me because everything seems to be okay with it but it still is a strange kinda relationship. One thing though, Fox kinda overshadows the rest of the guys and the whole of the first book, I didn't get any distinction between AJ, Levi and Nate. Now, I know Nate the Ninja but AJ and Levi are still a tiny bit confusing. Having distinct powers will help me remember in the next book, I guess.

Yes people, the author promises us a novella detailing Ro's HEA with her men and I can't wait. We also have a spin-off duet (?) and I can't wait for that either.

An amazing book. A must read.

This was an explosive read though it didn’t go quite as i expected that’s for sure. We catch up with events a year after that shocking night Cams whole world was shattered into tiny pieces at the hands of the men she had come to adore. Cam who has now changed her name to Ro in an effort to distance herself from her old self has spent the last year concentrating on her revenge and on her plans to take down the Phoenix Group. She’s been reborn by her pain and needs the closure to piece together the broken pieces of her soul.

it’s now time to head back on what is more than likely a suicide mission. It will also mean once again facing the men who she can’t stop loving but at the same time still blames for there prior actions. Logically she knows they’re been equally played but coming to terms with that is difficult and an obstacle she’s can’t see herself overcoming.

This was an enjoyable immersive experience that was so different to what I was expecting. There was a lot less of the focus on romance this time though we still had some sexy scenes. This actually focused more on the plot itself which honestly I was all there for.

The added components to our girls love life though I’m not sure they worked for me. I don’t think this series was long enough to properly incorporate them in and make me believe and be invested in these whole new connections. Honestly, I wish we’d just stayed as we were it was enough and that last reveal, just no It felt like an extra just to make up the numbers and I couldn’t see the point. I’m attempting to be mostly vague here as trying not to spoil.

Anyways this wasn’t perfect, there were definitely things I wish that had played out differently but for the most part this was a great experience. The writing was good and this easily kept my attention. As a series this has been distinct and unique and I’d recommend.

It turns out once you lower your standards and stop being a judgey bitch and allow the story to carry you, even an inadequate delivery can still be quite an enjoyable feat. Who knew!

But I believe the premise has to be one that you really like for you to be able to overlook all of these challenges. All the worst qualities aside, I really liked the story-line and I would have enjoyed the book more if the writing was a bit better.

It says at the end of the book that Syn's story is coming, I am thinking a spin-off and I am looking forward to that. Also the book ends in a sort of HFN with a villain still vowing to settle the score and some other unresolved issues. So maybe not really a duet?

Hopefully the quality of the writing will improve with the next works.

Fast burn reverse harem!

There's a lot I like about this duet. The premise, the plot, and the action are phenomenal. I adore the FMC.

There are a couple things that stop it from being a 5 star read for me.

- 1. Fox is the first guy in the FMC's harem. His lack of character growth (aka his complete control of the FMCs sex life and deciding who can actually be with her mainly) is a deal breaker. Yeah, I get she's into it or whatever, but it doesn't sit right with me. It felt off... as in I didn't buy into their relationship at all.

- 2. A few of the guys were too interchangeable or didn't get enough time to even remember them... so why bother adding them?

That being said, it was good. Recommend for fans of RH genre.

This was a good series! A little cheesy and Cam/Ro was a littlw bit of a super special snowflake, but I liked the characters, liked the plot, liked the pacing and Ayn's story sounds great.

My only annoyance is that these are the sort of characters who don't kill the bad guys, whuch bites them in the ass, which is trally annoying considering these are men who kill people on missions, so it's not like they're squeaky clean. That's always a bit annoying!

I liked the first part of the book more than the second one.

The things Cam/Ro wanted to do at the end of book one didn’t happen. I wanted a revenge story and didn’t get it. The last couple chapters didn’t feel cohesive, you got some information thrown at you and that was that. The ending felt rushed.

Also the author can’t decide which theme this book should have. She didn’t stick to one way of explaining things and instead throws a lot of things out there.

This book doesn’t contain an epilogue!
“There will also be an extended epilogue coming soon when The Phoenix Project Duet releases as a set, giving you a snapshot of island life.”

I can't even express how much I loved this book. The whole duet. Shoot, I love all the books that will fall into the same world in the future. It was freaking fantastic. From the Ashes gives us so much story! The drama and the action were on point. The feelings felt real. I feel like I should bow down to Candice Wright right now. I need more of pretty much all of the characters, primary and secondary. My thoughts are all jumbled so I'll just come straight out and say read this duet! You won't be disappointed.

Oh this book was just as addictive as the first! My heart bleeds for Cam, or Phoenix, or Nemo, or Ro? Either way she’s kickass and so freaking loveable! And I can practically feel the pheromones coming off the pages!
I was clinging on every step of the way or this book!
I love the unyielding passion her guys have for her! Especially love some of the new characters in this book! Not saying names so no spillers but oh my I fell!
Definitely recommend!

The 'almost' conclusion to this devastating Duet hits the ground running, and keeps right on going. Cameron, now going by Romance, or Ro, has been gone a year.... training for the fight she knows is coming. And that fight is there, waiting for her within the walls of the facility that still bears her original name. The worst part? She enters those doors a prisoner, captive by the very men who still hold her heart.

While not quite as emotionally devastating or as powerful as Book 1, this novel still packs a punch and offers up a stunning story that hurts the heart and eases the soul. The paths these characters must walk is ripe with sorrow and danger, allowing the story to hold both a science fiction and paranormal feel, while weaving an epic romance that culminates well, though doesn't exactly live up to the depth seen previously.

I enjoyed this tale, even with a few dangling plot points, remaining questions and a McGuffin in human form. There were issues, yes, but they are slim and easily overlooked in preference of indulging in a fairly well wrought narrative.

This one is a solid 3/5 for me. It was not what I expected it to be. I loved the first book but this one just kinda left me a bit disappointed. I still liked it but the ending was so rushed and I felt like I was missing some pretty important moments between the characters.

Well although there were good parts there were still parts that didn't really make sense. I feel like the ending this time was rubbish. It wasn't really an ending. We are left with more questions. I liked the fact that she went back and then added to her harem. I also liked the dream talking, that was a nice touch.

I absolutely loved this book. Its one of my favorites series. I can’t believe what happened in this book so many answered questions . Yet so many questions left unanswered. That Nikkie bitch need to go down I cannot wait till they get their hands on her and find her out. I can’t wait for Syn’s story and to find out what’s going on on the island. Well, well , well. What a wonderful duet. Though I still need more of Ro and her guys. Ro is such a fire, so strong, always overcoming anything put before her. I wanna know more about Hector, and what he’s capable of, you know what I mean... and Gus is WHO??? Oh boy! That b*tch Nikki, I cant wait to see how she gets screwed! I’ll be waiting, here, with bated breath.

Well, this book was the definition of a let down.

The first book in this duet ended with a huge bang. Reveals, betrayals, drama, twists, and the heroine running away! Intriguing, yes?

So what's the logical start to the next book? Surely it's to pick up where we left off in the heat of the moment and see how this action all plays out, right? Surely we're going to see a believable push-and-maybe-pull from the romance side, right? Surely we're going to explore all of the emotions swirling around that build up to the reunion of the century, right? ...Right?

No, no, no. That would be silly, of course!

Instead, we're going to do a year long timeskip so we don't get to actually see how the heroine deals with her anguish and mourning and fury and betrayal. (Oh, wait. Unless we're counting that gym scene?) We don't get to see anything for a year. A year. What the heck is the point of building up things in a duet's first book if you're just going to leave people hanging during the next book? This was worse than getting a cliffhanger.

Instead, we're going to do chapters full of telling instead of showing.

Instead, we're going to have the heroine's "well built" walls around her heart collapse the very moment she sees "her guys" again.

Instead, we're going to get a bunch of pages full of Bella-like inner monologue that felt like a cop-out to get the plotline moving so the heroine could be reunited with "her guys". Spending time on silly things like character development? Nah, not important in this one.

Instead, we're going to switch up the letter's in Cameron's name so she can go by the name "Romance" now.... Yes, the heroine changes her name to "Romance." Romance.

Romance.

Romance.

She changed her name to R o m a n c e .

I can't.

I had such high expectations for the followup on all the bombs dropped in book 1. While reading the first book, I kept thinking to myself "wow, this is crazy and sooo freaking dramatic. How the heck is the author going to deal with fixing this?"

Well, now I have my answer. She isn't.

DNF somewhere within the first 25% honestly. So many new things started getting introduced, and it was like the first book had been mostly forgotten about after that year-long break. I wasn't rooting for anyone in this book.

Sorry. Needed to vent out all the negativity I felt from reading this. It just really rubbed me the wrong way. This is mostly just a note to myself not to try this one again.

To say I was excited to read From The Fire is a great understatement and I am delighted to say that it did not disappoint!
A beautifully written duet, that will take you on an rollercoaster of emotions from the first page.
Once you get to the end of the ride you will want to jump straight back in!
I need more from Nemo, her harem and all the characters in this duet.

This duology was absolutely unique with an interesting plot and captivating characters; although, I am left with a few questions…

For one, what in the FRESH HELL happened in the last chapter??
Did Nikki switch places with Syn???
She seemed so like herself after they were back at the gym but then Nikki was at the airstrip posing as Syn?!
FUCKING HELL.
That damn near blew my fucking head off.
And to END the book on her POV was deliciously agonizing.
I’m practically dying to find out what happens in Syn’s story and how she gets out of this mess and meets her men!

Also, I was so completely thrown off when Henry was simply TOSSED into the mix, like we was always supposed to be a part of Ro’s harem??
So utterly unexpected….
And besides the fact that he was warming up to her as a prisoner, there was literally NO indication of them ever getting together!
Random as fuck.
I think maybe it just needed to workout with Syn’s background story with her 7 mates and then Henry got tagged in last minute; either way, his addition to the group IMO, was poorly executed.
They had minimal interaction and literally a tsp. of chemistry…
And don’t even get me started on Hector either, he was definitely in a similar boat.
I gtg.
Anyways.

This could have easily (and preferably) been drawn out to an additional book; the plot development felt very rushed, add in the insta-love and random men added to harem in the last few pages… something was definitely missing .
The breakout for the gang in the last part of the book felt too easy in a way; I almost wish there was a bit more of a struggle or resistance to get out, further adding to the rush factor .

Nevertheless, the premise of the series was intriguing as hell and had me wanting to find out what was happening.
The writing, albeit slow and filler-like at times, still gave me pause with how beautiful and cohesive it was.
Candace has this way of tapping into those emotional heartstrings, which was extremely powerful in terms of the reading experience and allowed me to connect with the book and characters on a deeper level.

Okay, GUS is my guy.
He is such a fucking beauty, I was pumped when he showed up at the end and even more dumbfounded when a major secret about his past is revealed…
He’s Ro’s grandpa!
Holy shit.
Well it would have been cool to see her find out about their relation, I’m sure I would simply bawl like an infant.
I guess just us knowing is going to have to cut it, ( spoiler for the epilogue: he doesn’t tell her *cries river*).

I still think the other 6 men should have gotten a little more love from Ro…
Alas,
she is Fox-obsessed..
I usually prefer my RH groups to feel quite balanced in terms of the time and affection they get from the girl.
So, this wasn’t my particular cup of tea but the duology was still absolutely enjoyable and a steamy as hell read to boot.

Sidenote RE: extended epilogue….
I’m not sure how I feel about it.
It was fun to see her have some alone time with each of the guys but again, it felt so rushed and didn’t give me the closure I wanted tbh.
It was interesting to see Ro marry Fox and have everyone else sit out.
I get their relationship is like soulmate-level , meanwhile, the others are her lovers at best but it still strikes that cord of unfairness.
It would have been nice if Ro had a gesture for the other men, considering they sat and watched her marry Fox without a care (and I’m not just talking about spending a day with them).
But I digress, I still had a good time reading this!

I truly look forward to delving into Candace’s other work following this wonderful introduction.

Rushed

There are many things I liked about this series including the heroine, the premise, and the chemistry and dynamic of the bigger group (aka harem). However, there were several opportunities for improvement...the plot was a little unnecessarily elaborate and some stuff (like Syn and the emergence of a new race of humans, the powers that the guys suddenly had, etc) seemed to come from left field and then before you get a minute to digest within the rest of the story and world...bam! Something new and crazy happens. Too many stories and conflicts at once so everything feels rushed or short-changed. I feel like these 2 books could have been flushed out and slowed down a bit to make up 3-4 books with more time spent between the main characters and more time to pace the plot and action. I was disappointed with 1-on-1 relationship development, both in emotion and intimacy. I mean, she barely even got to know the latest additions to the harem. I generally find insta-love romances in the RH genre to be boring and (honestly) a bit lazy because the author can skip the very real journey and moments of falling in love (which is why many of us read romance novels).

We have moved on about a year, our FMC had to change her name and now goes by Romance Fennec or Ro, for reasons you will understand if you read the first book. She has built herself up, learned to fight with the help of Gus who is like a father to her. She has learnt to fully control herself but is still committed to revenge on the project that caused her great loss. She finds herself in another facility but in the depths with others who are ‘a danger to society’. Here she finds solace with like minds, and forges herself a new family. It isn’t without risks, when the treatments are severe, however she is where she wants to be in order to carry out her own justice.

The guys sneak their way back into her heart with a few more additions to her harem. Not giving you any spoilers 🙃 it is quite a journey for us readers. I did enjoy this one but maybe not as much as the first 🤔, there is a lot of spice 🌶️ and the twists within the story were good. I shall read the next one as I need answers to some questions lol

Enjoyed the first book, the setup of the Phoenix Foundation and the crooked government exploiting dying people to build an army.

This one... not so much. Too much time spent talking and chatting. For Example: They break out of the dome but stand around talking to each other instead of getting the hell out of there until the Nikki bitch makes her move. The fact they let Nikki get lose but not anyone else.

And come on... seven men. When does the Harem just turn into a small town. And don't forget, this woman can't even have kids so all these men are going to take turns with her for the rest of her life but never have a 'future' to really care about the HEA in this case. It's all about the group orgies I guess and not much else at this point.

Kind of upset this wasn't better closure. And honestly not interested in Syn's story since I read a review and it had some spoilers that would have pissed me off if I had spent the time to read her installment.

So Yes, Liked Nemo and her original group and the story. This part just didn't hit the same mark.

It was simply mind blowing. Not that I’m surprised, it’s what I was expecting all along (what? ... when It’s Candice who writes it can only be fantastic). It was filled with so many feelings, so many dreads. New friends, more understanding, more connections, searing attraction, planning and so much more on pages of this story. It kept me captive, it hold my heart and it played with my head... We were dipped in action, gone trough plots, been surprised more than once. I was shouting on my husband and kids when they disturbed me while reading, when I started it there was no possibility of me putting it down. I think I did probably die and come back as phoenix, I did probably combust with fire several times while reading this book. And the final left me jaw dropped, gapping on the last page asking why.. just three letters come to my mind... OMG... I need more of this world.

Ok this book was freaking amazing! It was just as good as the first! I honestly need more from this duet. In this book it picks up about a year after everything went down and the facility. We meet Romance Fennec, Cameron/Phoenix’s new persona. She is still a kick butt FMC and has worked on controlling her power and strengthening her resolve. She is still angry and when she sees her guys she makes it known. I loved seeing some old characters in this book as well as meeting new ones. The action and relationships that developed in this story were amazing! And Gus!!! I didn’t not see that coming! I cannot wait to read Syn’s story and I really want more of Romance and her guys!!! I highly recommend this series!!

The Phoenix Project is a duet of rollercoaster books that push the boundaries of plot twists and character revelations. From the Fire is book two, and the first thing we find out is that Cam is no more and Ro is here to stay. Ro journeys along a character arc that starts with complete uncertainty and sure death to building a harem she can rely on and learning to trust and believe in herself. The men are crazy hot in this book and I’m surprised the cell bars didn’t melt in that one scene 😉. PS NEVER LET AN ENEMY LIVE. Lol but in all seriousness, I’m extremely hyped and excited to revisit this world and these addictive characters on the island. I’m eagerly awaiting Syn’s story and Nikki’s imminent demise! 🥳
