I received a free e-copy of Bodybuilding for Beginners: A 12-Week Program to Build Muscle and Burn Fat by Kyle Hunt from NetGalley for my honest review.
I have been training for the last 11 months in the gym with a trainer. I am now on my own and although I know how to train and work out I still truly enjoyed this book. This is a wonderful, well explained and planned out book that can help anyone. I really enjoyed the 12 week program that she planned out in this book including things to eat, not eat, workouts to do. I loved how she took it to a personal level and even let the reader know what is in her kitchen. The discussions on gluten, non gluten, non dairy, dairy, processed, spices, etc are a great help.
Kyle Hunt's Bodybuilding for Beginners is an excellent book for those interested in applying bodybuilding to their lives. The book is a twelve week program that can be easily applied and modified to suit anyone's workout needs. Part one is all about setting the foundation and learning the core principles of bodybuilding and nutrition. Part two is an illustrated guide to the fundamental exercises that create the framework for bodybuilding. Part three is the twelve week jump start program that puts together everything from parts one and two to complete a comprehensive plan that readers can follow to see results in three months. It's not too wordy or complex, the accompanying images, graphs, and charts are great, and I love that it's geared towards both men and women instead of just men (as I assumed when I looked at the cover). A great introductory book that will get anyone on the right track!
This is a very easy to understand and methodical book if you are a beginner to weights like me. It is easy to digest the information and is divided into different sections for different parts of the body. I will be using this book as my weights reference book.
Bodybuilding for Beginners is like having your own personal trainer. In fact, as you read through the pages you feel like Hunt is standing right next to you giving you instructions on what the exercises should look like and tips for how to make it more productive. If you are into any form of bodybuilding this is a great book to get you started.
As the author, Kyle Hunt, points out, “This book is about using bodybuilding for practical everyday fitness. A well-designed bodybuilding program is the most effective method to improve how you look and feel. Resistance training has been shown to be better at building muscles, losing fat, and improving body composition than cardio alone. A consistent resistance training program will also help you reduce stress, have more energy during the day, sleep better at night, and improve your coordination. Bodybuilding for Beginners is a definitive, evidence-base guide to set you up for success.”
After reading that paragraph why are you waiting. Order the book now and get started.
Seriously, Hunt has done a great job outlining (with informative pictures) each of the exercises he recommends you use. He explains their purpose, how to do them appropriately, and what results you can expect when doing them in the prescribed way. Then after detailing what the exercises look like he walks you through a twelve-week training program to implement the exercises.
Each exercise is chosen for a particular purpose. He doesn't just give you a list of exercises and say, go to it. No, he shows how exercises build on each other and which ones will help you achieve the purpose for which you want to exercise in the first place. But it's not all about exercise. As you will note in the twelve-week program he factors in rest and even tell the reader to get away from the gym and live life. He also talks about how important rest and nutrition are to the success of this process.
If you are a beginner, you will find the book helpful as you get started. If you are a seasons veteran this is the book you need to help those with whom you work know what you are doing, why, and how they too can become involved in an activity you find so fulfilling.
Upon request the publisher sent me a copy of the book to review.
Bodybuilding For Beginners by Kyle Hunt is a great resource for not only beginners delving into lifting for the first time, but also seasoned veterans as well.
I liked the simple format of the text. The initial introduction into the physiology and the whys of weightlifting, dietary involvement, and the hows, I feel, is very informative for the newcomers.
I loved the format of the text. By breaking down into Lower extremities, core/back, and lastly upper body, it helped break down the best exercises for each, how to do them, common errors, imaging showing the lift, and areas that the lift affects.
I also enjoyed the 12 week program suggestions at the end as well.
The text was clean, concise, and informative. It is at a level that anyone can understand and appreciate.
I plan on incorporating this into my already established weight routine.
5/5 stars
Thank you NetGalley and Rockridge Press for this ARC and in return I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review and opinion.
Bodybuilding for Beginners is a primer on weightlifting and eating to see mad gains. The book goes over nutrition and various exercises.
Kyle Hunt organizes the exercises according to the muscle group they target.
There isn't anything more to say about it. The book introduces a program for a better lifestyle, and I can't follow it in the limited time I took it out unless I take notes.
Thanks for reading my review, and see you next time.
It's a good book for beginners, as the title indicates, that are not aware of form or names of workouts/ exercises. The 12 will program in it appears to be effective; it just wasn't where i am in my workout regimen. I think if you're a beginner is a great start. If you're any level above it, leave it be.
Don’t assume you know what you’re doing in the gym if you don’t! This is a great book to get you started and get your exercise routine diversified. I had great results and recommend this book
When I had no idea where to start in my gym journey, I looked up every YouTube video, yet I needed some base to start from. This book was it—a beginner-friendly book with great explanations and good exercise variation, well organized and informative, very helpful.
Very informative, he gives great insight into what bodybuilding is and how it's not instant. It takes time and patience to achieve the goals you have set
Good at giving beginners a solid foundation to build on. Plenty of exercises are given and explained with alternatives as well. Plenty of information geared towards helping you begin a good workout routine from the ground up.
Kyle Hunt's Bodybuilding for Beginners is a book that I would highly recommend for those interested learning bodybuilding. The book is a twelve week program that address everyone's workout needs at a couple levels. I really enjoyed the book as someone who previously lifted for bodybuilding and highly recommend to my young adult children.
Great way to introduce the novice body builder to sets and repetitions that will increase their strength and endurance. Will definitely incorporate into my workouts.
