"There's no other heart for me but yours."

I am a demon of the night.
A monster who craves blood.
Who yearns for the hunt.

Upset my world.
An angel with hell’s power.

I wanted to hate her.
To destroy her.
Kill her goodness.

Then she made my heart beat again.
Showed me how to live.
Loved me.

But she doesn’t know what I’ve done.
How I bathed the world in blood.
Changed history.

My past will come for her.
Try to destroy my angel.
But I won’t let it.

I'm bored to death. Literally nothing has happened the entire time I've been reading it, and combined with this book and the last, and how many more books there are, this series is over excessively LONG. The hero also turned out to be bland and not as bada** as I was hoping he would be, and I still cannot stand the heroine.
I'm out✌

A great follow up to The Devil's Fool

This second installment of the series was just as twisty and action packed as the first, an equally good and captivating read. This time we see events through Lucian's eyes, he is a much darker, more severe character so expect some angst and anger as you read this.

The plot was really well thought through and the story flowed well. It was impossible to pick out what was new and what was original, the author did an amazing job of blending the two together. Despite them being supernatural creatures, Eve and Lucian's actions and emotions are very believable and I found it very easy to empathise with them. The constant pulling away by Lucian could have become annoying and definitely would have been, had we not been "in his head" and experiencing his thoughts, feelings and emotions.

The developing relationship between Eve and Lucien is beautifully woven through this tale and I really enjoy how this author writes a really rounded story. She mixes just the right amount of description, action, intrigue, passion and dialogue. The suspense builds well and I found myself wondering who you could (or couldn't) trust in the story.

I really enjoyed reading this book and would recommend this series to those who like a good paranormal/supernatural tale with a nice side of romance threaded through. This does end on a cliff-hanger but the next updated book will be out very soon and I that will definitely be on my TBR list when it is.

I promptly read this after wrapping up The Devil's Fool by the same author (Book 1 in this series).
Book 1, while poorly edited told a story that absolutely left me wanting more. This one was similar in that regard.

Honestly - reading this series has me confused.
The story is amazing and I'm so glad that McClellan took the time to put it together and bring it to us, as readers! It really is brilliant and thought-provoking at times. What confuses me is the seeming lack of caring that goes into her novels.

Book 1 in this series - what I had to say about it was this : "It's a good book that with the right editor could be great."
The same could be said for this one but an editor isn't all that's needed here - an author that cares about what she's putting out is also needed. I say this because there were a few things that screamed out 'lack of effort' in reading this one.

The book does pick up where Book 1 left off - so in the beginning it flows perfectly! However as it goes on, there are times that contradict this action. The book opens right where Fool left off but then... a bit into it it's implied that some time has passed. Which is it?
Continuity issues are more abundant in this one - little things that either aren't well explained or are completely changed from when they were mentioned previously.
Poor grammar throughout the book - much like its predecessor. That did distract from the reading experience -this is sad because the story is amazing and magical and completely deserves the reader's full attention.
The biggest thing that made me feel as though the author doesn't exert a ton of effort - and if this detail were not accompanied by the others I've pointed out, I'd think it an honest oversight - she actually changed the spelling of an important character's name.
Book 1 we have Sable, the MC's mother who has a rather large role in who Eve goes on to become. But in Book 2 she's Sabel. It was a bit distracting.

This whole series seems that it's a good series, that with some fine-tuning and an editor could be much better than good.
It did leave me wanting more and despite the continuity discrepancies and poor grammar, I did pre-order Book 3. I absolutely have to have it.

McClellan has a brilliant way of sucking you in and leaving you wanting - no needing - more. If only she put a bit of effort into the overall presentation of the book or hired an editor, this and its predecessor would both be 5 star reads.

I do recommend the series - *if* you're someone who can get past poor grammar and questionable continuity.

Which brings me to - OVERALL - 3 stars.

Cover:
Is professionally done and matches the other covers in this series. Gorgeous font and relative graphics.
Editing:
Seems to be missing.
Story:
Absolutely, soul-grippingly addicting - but tainted by lack of editing.
Cliffhanger:
Yes- to the point of I'd advise you to hold on tight.

I'm curious about the author's other series but probably will skip them. While she clearly has a brilliant skill here, the lack of effort that's put into the rest of the details might have me pulling my hair out if this series is a testament to her style. A shame and probably my loss! I do recommend checking her out as she clearly has the ability to create beautiful, magical worlds.

The Devil's Angel, book two in the Devil Series, is a fascinating trip into the dark world that lies in the shadows of our own. This book is seen through the eyes of Lucian, a vampire so racked by past sins he can't remember that he seeks redemption through vigilantism. Lucian is such a complex and (surprisingly) relate-able character that you are fascinated by him from the first time you meet him. I loved loved loved this book and can't wait for the third one to come out and see what happens next!! I have been following this author for a while and this has to be my favorite series she writes.

I liked the first one better. I don't know, can't put my finger on it, but something is missing, maybe not missing but I had problems with the flow and continuity of the story, it's really choppy like. Eve is supposed to be very powerful but comes across as weak and whiney and as much as I like Lucien, I also found him weak for a vampire, even a brooding one. The story is off, there's a disconnect. The idea is excellent and maybe if it was more thought out it would have come across much better, but, I really think the author has much potential.

This book was such a page-turner.

This is the second book to the Devil series by Rachel McClellan. And I loved how you got to see in the mind of Lucien. And follow through with him as he learned what true love was and how you can actually care for someone.

I've read this series before, but it's still amazing. And I will reread it again.

Amazing novel!

Ooh I wasn't expecting that

This book is told from Lucien's POV. It was a fun quick read, much like the first one. I am still intrigued to follow the story.

A Hero's Death #1 - Great Book! A well written, intriguing suspense with a well thought out plot and developed characters. This book reminds me a lot of the Dresden Files; no, the author wrote something completely different, but the way DF evolves into a continuous story. No, Ardis is not a witch/warlock, I grew up in time when females were the witches, but he's stronger than any human because of his father's genes. Hard to describe without doing spoilers. This book has substance, intelligence and immerses the reader into a twisting tale, full of vivid descriptions, that can't be put down until it's finished. 5*

A Monster's Birth #2 - A well written, intriguing suspense with strong descriptions painting vivid pictures as the story unfolds. The characters and dialog are realistic, and the plot keeps the reader immersed until the end. This book is like AHD containing substance and intelligence. 5*

A Champion's Fight #3 - What a rollercoaster ride! Awesome! The action never slows down nor does the pace. This is probably the best of the three books so far, but the other two were awesome, too. I couldn't put the book down, but took my time reading it, savoring it. This is a well written and thought out story. The characters, man, you just hate them, but the good ones are tough. There old and new characters, most are believable, realistic for that world, and the emotions they extract from the reader just run the gamut.

While romantic love took the rear seat on the bus, the hate, anger, evilness, fear and all the negative emotions run rampant. There is love but it's for the humans, along with determination. The reader has to get involved with the story. Ms. McClellan does a fab job with her lucid, vivid descriptions; every once in awhile I felt the pain. This is a must read series, and in order to get the best thrill and excitement, and I can't wait to see what's next from this richly articulate, creative author. I contacted the author to review her books. 5*

The Devil's Fool #1 - Intriguingly dark. A well written suspense with several interesting characters and an intriguing plot. This is my first book by this author and since I didn't know what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised by the story. I couldn't stop reading until I finished the book; the more into the story, the more mesmerizing. Cliffhanger, there's three more books. 5*

The Devil's Angel #2 - Intriguingly darker. A well written, fast paced suspense with more interesting characters with a twisting, intriguing plot. I am confused why such a powerful witch would weaken so much after using her magic. This is still a substantial series, unlike Twilight, more like The Dresden Files. I couldn't put this book down, either, and hated that it's a cliffhanger, two more books. 5*

A Well Thought out and Layered Read!

100% SPOILER FREE REVIEW
Rachel did an amazing job crafting the second story in this series. While it’s not a short read, and the series must be read in order, it is an amazing, layered, page turner.
You’ll be hooked from cover to cover. This is the story of Lucien and Eve, once known as Alarica, in The Devils Fool (Book 1) Lucian happened to be the Vampire who was there to fight the black witch and tore the necklace from her.
Ever since, Eve has been hunting Lucian, she needs him, but why? She killed Boaz, and has moved on with her life, or did she?
Lucian is a complicated vampire who believes he deserves no happiness. The wrong he has done in his past is not something he can live with. But he’s not the same person anymore, right? Then what could possibly be so horrible, that he won’t allow an ounce of happiness in?
Then we have good old Charlie, a man who works for the Deific and is in love with Eve. It’s clear he wants her for himself, but how far will he go to make that happen, and can he actually be trusted? Can anyone who works there, or is it all one big ploy to get to Eve and her power? Oh, and who in the world is “The Dark Prince”?
The connection between Eve and Lucian is perfect and relatable. The banter between Lucian and Charlie will have you laughing out loud. You will see the world created and feel the raw emotions the characters feel.
The author did a wonderful job with the pace of the story, and being a very hard sell on giving 5 stars, I do believe this deserves all of them. While there are a few slow spots, there aren’t many, and there is more than plenty of times you will think you have it all figured out, just to learn you were wrong once again.
I will definitely be moving on immediately to book 3, The Devils Solider, and recommend this series to anyone who loves Vampires, Magic, and edge of your seat suspense.

(3.5 stars)

"The Devil's Angel" finds Eve and Charlie moving to Seattle in order to help the Deifics begin the healing process after they lost many of their members to a vampire attack. Eve has an additional task, get Lucien to come to her so that he can help them with their cause. So, she begins a game of seduction which he falls for hook, line and sinker.

Meanwhile, there is a rash of new vampire turning and they seem to have one thing in mind, capturing Eve. Charlie and Lucien have a very tenuous relationship but their love and respect for Eve unites them. One thing is clear, the vamps are up to something and it is leading straight to Ireland. I'm this installment we get much needed insight into the background of Lucien. It becomes important as the facts from story begin to unfold. We finally discover the identity of the Dark Prince and he is not the only one to fear. The action scenes remain one of the highlights of this series but the lack of real romantic scenes finish some of power of the plot. I also felt towards the end that the author was stalling any real progress. No. I am not writing about the cliffhanger ending, I'm referring the never ending delay of the big confrontation. I hope this is resolved in book three.

🪽 Heat Scale: Holy Tease – Promised sin, delivered scripture. Emotional, yes. Physically fulfilling? Not even close.
🪽🪽Plot Scale: Fallen Feather – Had potential, but crash-landed mid-sermon. Some sin, not enough temptation to keep me awake.

✨ Best Quote: “Because it is impossible to find me anywhere else. I am yours, Eve. If I denied it again, the world would shake in anger, the stars and moon would fall from the sky, and the sun would disappear, for I will have denied true love.”
Beautiful line — trapped in a book that lost its wings. The rest? A sermon disguised as a fantasy.

I wanted to love this. I thought Book 1’s chaos was clever misdirection. Turns out it was just… chaos. The confusion multiplied, the heroics got dumber, and the only thing that stayed consistent was my hope slowly dying.

At this point, I’ve stopped praying for spice and started mourning the potential.

I really enjoyed how this book swapped to Lucien's POV, I didn't expect it and it adds a LOT of depth to a character that we'd previously only seen as murky and wistful. Again, I got the same impression that the relationship with Eve moved too fast and that it could have been developed a little bit further and deeper, but I did enjoy their witty banter and seeing Eve from his point of view was also great for her character development. I definitely felt like this book built a lot more on the characters strengths and weaknesses, and it definitely hooks you in for the next book more than the previous one!

They keep getting better

Wow, I loved the first one but The Devil's Angel was better than the first. It was Lucien's POV and the storyline was so exciting. So much action and twist n turns. There is a mild cliffhanger but the next book is already out so it doesn't make it bad. I just love the world created and how exciting it is to read about it. I hardly could put it down ands was even reading at 2 appointments yesterday cause I was so involved. Thank you again for a wonderful read.

I enjoyed the because the perspective of the story changed when I thought I would just stick with Eve’s perspective, but instead it changed to Lucien’s. And going from one characters struggle to another’s was a nice difference. Especially when you usually just have a glimpse of the other persons. Even though the ending did leave me on a cliff hanger I still enjoyed the book, because it intertwined the first book and this one whole introducing the third one very well.

Again book two leaves me in the same spot I don't like spoilers and it's very hard to review this without giving any. As the characters have developed more and other new ones have been introduced I find myself torn in so many directions. You want to see Eve become the person she wanted to be at the start of book one, but then you also want to see her take the experiences she is dealing with and build on them to become someone else.

OMG SO GOOD...

I'm in LOVE with this series...it's taken me on a wild rollercoaster ride! This story moves so fast at times it made me dizzy but yet kept me on my toes! The relationship between Lucien and Eve is beyond strong, she knew it but he keeps fighting it...and poor Charlie doesn't know what he wants.
Great storyline with awesome characters! On to the next!! Remember start with the first book then go on...

This is a great read! I love how it is now in his point of view and we get views on the other side and how he feels also where he came from to understand him ...
I can't wait to get in to the next book to see if she died or is still alive... but I am betting that she is somewhere else and faked death
time will tell!!
lets get to it!

This book is really slow. I am happy it isn’t a super quick read but the storey plot seems really really slow and nothing great happens until the last few chapters. Then we are left with a cliff hanger. I’m not someone who likes to leave a book unfinished but I found this hard to read every page.

Repetitive

This writer has a great story telling style but relies too much on descriptions of violence and unresolved character guilt. This makes the story repetitive, long winded and quite frankly a little boring.
