(I hope this is the right book. The one I read is a large coffee table book, 14.5" by 10.5", by Belinda Thomson and Michael Howard.)
This book gives a brief introduction to the impressionist painters and their historical context. It then reviews 25 or so individual painters with examples of their work. Not being versed in art, some of the description was above my head, but I enjoy hearing experts wax philosophic about their subject.
I am a fan of impressionism and appreciate what they are trying to accomplish. I've seen maybe a quarter of these pieces in museums. Seeing one in the museum obviously allows you to appreciate brushwork and other features that you cannot see on a picture on the page, but the reproductions are still moving.
This book was a pleasure to look at, and I appreciated learning new details about some of the works.
