I almost didn’t read once I found out it was another “woman wanting to adopt no matter the cost”, but I really like this author. And while the protagonist, Jo, irritated me to no end with her lack of a moral compass, her actions were required for this story to work. I mean, she wants to adopt the child of one of her students, and she wants to hide the pregnancy from everyone, including the father and his wealthy parents! Seems like that breaks all kind of rules! But then, it is a fast read, and there are several twists along the way. So, I’ll continue to read this author’s books until I’m done!
This book was such a great twisty thriller. I thought I knew what was going on in the beginning but I was way off. There was so much deceit and so many secrets woven throughout. The anticipation had me at the edge of my seat needing to know more the deeper into the story I got. I didn’t find Jo to be very likable at first but she grew on me. Her character had depth and was very well thought out. The whole novel was intricately layered like an onion. Nothing was as it seemed on the surface. I listened to the audiobook version of the novel. The narrator had an easy to understand voice and the pace was steady. The narrator’s voice itself was a bit nasally but after the first few chapters I hardly noticed. I just came to think of it as Jo’s voice It was a pleasant surprise. I was expecting a run of the mill suspense novel but I got something much more. I hope to get my hands on more by this author in the near future. 5 stars
THIS THRILLER IS "A PERFECTLY CHOREOGRAPHED WALTZ OF EVIL." FIVE SHIVERING STARS!
HOLY SMOKE! Lots of books claim to be psychological suspense thrillers, but this one delivers in spades! The compelling plot grabbed me from the first page to the last with nonstop mystery, thrilling suspense, and mind-blowing twists and turns. Move over, all you thriller writers, and make room for a brilliant new star in your genre!
I usually write long reviews with spoiler alerts and a plot summary. Not this time, because nothing should spoil one minute of this gripping story. Suspense novels are not my favorite genre because they're often predictable or too far-fetched, but I'm so glad I took a chance on this one. I'm a delighted new fan of N. L. Hinkens.
Masterfully written and edited, with no explicit sex or offensive language, this is a story anyone can read and enjoy. Highly recommended!
A great book with an outstanding storyline and well-defined characters that really grabs you in from the very beginning to end. Jo is so caught up in trying to become a mother that she completely disregards things going on around her, the cries for help, smirks and devious behavior all so she can find her happily ever after. Unfortunately, that happiness comes with a price. The author did an amazing job building this world, its characters and with its many turns, twist and unexpected reveals you do not want to miss it. I absolutely loved it. You should definitely get this book you won’t regret it.
No spoilers in any of my reviews! A well-woven mystery with twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the end. Full of lies, questionable actions and circumstances, you won't be able to figure out what direction this story takes...just suffice it to say that if thrillers and suspense are what you love in a book, this one is for you. I received an advance copy and am providing my honest evaluation of the story.
If you want to be shocked, read this book! A couple who cannot have their own children, desperately wants a child. They begin the adoption process, but not how you think. This is just a minor story. The main storyline will have you addicted, sitting on the edge of your seat, mouth hanging open! Manipulation, secrets revealed, secrets, shared, and you will be totally surprised at the end!
A solid read that I thought would be 4* but there was a twist that wasn’t at all explored and felt like it was just mentioned to hit a word count target and a few holes throughout the book that I couldn’t ignore
A tale of lies, betrayal, deceit, murder, dysfunctional behavior and just plain greed. The web this story weaves will have you shaking your head in utter disbelief. Good read.
This is my first book by Hinkens. The title interested me and it was a free Amazon read, so.... Was I in for a treat. The characters are well developed and the plot twists just keep coming. I will definitely lately look for more by this authir.
"I Know What You Did” a compelling psychological thriller opens as school counselor Jo Murphy devastated by multiple miscarriages and her husband Liam are given an opportunity to adopt a pregnant senior student's baby; her only condition is that her pregnancy be kept secret. With a guilty conscience Jo agrees knowing Mia’s boyfriend’s parents would want the baby as well.
Quickly the story heats up as intensity and suspense begin to build when Mia’s boyfriend Nick Tomaselli and Jo’s best friend Sara Gleeson, the school art teacher are found asphyxiated in her car. Niggling doubt has Jo not only questioning the lovers' suicide pact but investigating the tragedy, unraveling a host of lies and shocking secrets.
Fast-paced and utterly riveting with an unexpected wedding, another pregnancy, and a death that bequeaths millions to her friend’s husband, the tension climbs with frequent plot twists. Gripping from the first page to the last, the darkness and danger mounts as a teenage girl begins to show a chilling twisted personality.
Breathing life into the plot are a host of multi-faceted and intriguing characters like smart, insightful and resourceful Jo Murphy; her husband the very private but supportive computer network specialist Liam; and the demanding, snide, callous and manipulative Mia Allen. Well-written the author keeps you on the edge of your seat as the plot rushes towards a shocking ending you don’t see coming.
I thoroughly enjoyed “ I Know What You Did” and intend to read other books in future by this talented author.
So a woman I work with told me that she had found a whole bunch of thrillers at her aunt's house and was going to bring them to work for me....I was not expecting her to give me literally two completely stuffed to their brim grocery bags full of books. The first thing I noticed about them was it looked like they were all self published which instantly excited me because my experience so far with self published books has honestly been almost all positive.
Despite the fact that I have literally.... SOOO... many books, not only ones that I own, but I also have out about 20 from the library currently (-_-) hehe, so why I felt so inclined to start reading one, I'm really not sure LOL. But I Know What You Did seriously hooked me from the start. Thrillers are for sure one of my favorite genres and the thing I read the most of, but so often, I feel like it's the same shit over and over. Yet I can't stop reading them obviously hahahaha. But from the start, I could tell this book was different.
What I've noticed lately when I read thrillers is that I haven't found any that have been genuine page turners, where I have almost no choice but to continue to read through the night. I also feel like I barely even care enough about the books I've been reading lately to even guess how the book will end nor do any twists and turns really blow my mind anymore, because I find myself just not caring about a story nearly as much. Don't get me wrong, I will want to finish the book for the sake of finishing and knowing what happened, but when the "big reveal" happens, I'm just like "oh, okay, I see".
But with this book, Hinkens had me straight believing one thing, just to be mind fucked in the next few pages. There was even a time when I HAD guessed a future plotline, and I felt so sure of myself knowing how it was going to end because of that, and it STILL took another turn in time for it to really have me going! I truly didn't know who to trust, and I definitely didn't see the end coming.
I'm so glad I was able to find a thriller like this one to really keep me turning the pages, and I hope all of N.L. Hinkens books are this suspenseful and thrilling, because I have a few more by her that I can't wait to devour :)
I had no idea what to expect from this book and that’s part of the magic. I had no preconceived ideas and therefore I could not make any advance opinions one way or another about it. So I did what I love to do. I sat back and turned the page. And another. And another. This book drew me in, page after page, line after line. Ms. Hinkens is like the proverbial spider, spinning a web of words and then sitting back and watching to see who, or what, comes unknowingly right smack dab into the middle of her lair. She sets up the plot with sure strokes and her characters have flesh and blood just as if they could hop off of the page and sit down right next to me.
In I Know What You Did, Jo Murphy and her husband Liam face yet another disappointing miscarriage. Not wanting to face the pitying looks and the well meaning comments, Jo decides not to mention her loss to her coworkers and friends- even Robbie and Sarah, who have become good friends with Jo and Liam. But a student’s visit offers a solution if only Jo has the guts to follow through with it. Then the unthinkable happens and Jo begins to wonder if she ever knew her friends at all.
I chose to listen to this book after receiving a free audio copy from the author. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.
I Know What You Did started a little slow with Jo obsessing about her miscarriages and her marriage. Once it got going, though, it was one surprise after another. And so many secrets! There were so many possibilities about what was going on with Mia that it was impossible to guess for sure how it was all going to turn out. Some things were what I suspected, but there were a couple big surprises that I hadn’t even thought of!
The narrator did a good job with pace and timing. If you’re looking for a twisted murder mystery with a good ending, I Know What You Did would be a good choice.
I Know What You Did: A psychological suspense thriller (Domestic Deceptions Collection - Standalone Thrillers), my tenth amazing (272-page/8-hour 11-minute) read from author N.L. Hinkens. I enjoyed the outstanding suspense story-line with its intricately woven twists and turns, more knots than Alexander the Greats Gordian Knot, although a bit more transparent than her earlier works I'd read, I still had to read to the end to know! Norma (N.L.) Hinkens is on my radar of great authors! I was given an Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily reading & reviewing it. Narrator Sara K. Sheckells's narration added to the book's enjoyment, her whiney Mia was perfect and spot-on. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
How far would you go to achieve your dream? I Know What You Did was the ninth book I read or listened to by N.L Hinkens and it didn’t disappoint. I’ve become used to her books keeping me in suspense until the end, and this one went one better by providing enough direction I felt like I knew what the end would be and low and behold I never saw that ending coming. Along with being an entertaining story, Sara Sheckells does an excellent job of narrating it and bringing each of the characters to life. If you enjoy psychological thrillers, give I Know What You Did a shot, I’m betting it is a story you will enjoy.
Absolutely devoured this like the popcorn thriller it is. While there's unfortunately zero percent doubt about Mia's bad intentions, there are still enough twists and reveals and secrets to keep one guessing and pleasantly surprised.
P.S. From the summary, I really thought Jo was going to pretend to be pregnant before secretly adopting Mia's baby to pass off as her own, Terri-Schuester-style, and not gonna lie...I'm a little bummed that's not the case; it would have amped up the stakes a bit.
Ride this gripping Thriller like I did. Through every page I was on the edge wondering what would come up next. Jo have me the impression she was just as tricky as Mia when it came to adoption. I was really on edge not knowing who did what to whom? Their were other characters who I never expected to read about. The whole book kept in suspense from start to finish.
A typical who-done-it with a few holes in the plot, but the author does a good job of keeping you guessing at every turn and suspecting almost every one of the characters. I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed the narration by Sarah Sheckells very much. She did an outstanding job with accurate enunciation, clear pronunciation, and the right voice inflections to fit every character.
This story was so good and filled with so many twists and liars, With so many secrets, I was constantly second guessing everyone. I went back and forth on liking Jo but I was hooked and had to know the truth. I thought I knew where it was going a few times.
The narration was good. It was easy to follow and listen to
I though this one was a little easier for me to figure out. The book was an excellent read and a little twisty turning getting to the end. However, it’s funny, although I thought I had it nailed from the very beginning- and for all intents and purposes was right... I can’t help but shake the feeling at the end that there could be a sequel with a twist...
The less you know about this book going in, the better. It is one twist and turn after another as more and more sordid secrets are brought to the surface.
Chores will go undone, meals will be forgotten, and children will be ignored until this book is finished. Ordering everything else this author has!
Hinkins did it again with another psych thriller that keeps you guessing til the end. All Jo Murphy wants is to be a mother, and when a student comes to her (she is a high school counselor) pregnant, she decides she will adopt this baby. And that’s just the beginning of the twists and turns that keep coming!
It's a book that kept me guessing until the very end. Lots and lots of plot twists. Characters were interesting but I disliked most at least once during the story. Will be reading more by this author. I received an advance copy and am providing my honest evaluation of the story.
I loved this book, it was an amazing labyrinth of what was real and what wasn't . The characters were skilfully created and felt like real people. This story keeps the readers second guessing right up to the end.
A man and his wife, had been trying to have a child. The wife, works at a high school. Comes across a pregnant teen, who does not want the baby. Then, all kinds of things happen. Murders, affairs and it leaves you guessing until the end.
