Jax & Gia

Afterburn / Aftershock

Rate this book
Never mix business with pleasure. Never bring politics into the bedroom. In a way I did both when I took Jackson Rutledge as a lover. I can't say I wasn't warned.

Two years later, he was back. Walking into a deal I'd worked hard to close. Under the tutelage of Lei Yeung, one of the sharpest businesswomen in New York, I had picked up a thing or two since Jax walked away. I wasn't the girl he once knew, but he hadn't changed. Unlike the last time we'd drifted into each other's lives, I knew exactly what I was dealing with... and how addictive his touch could be.

The inner circle of glamour, sex, and privilege was Jax's playground--but this time, I knew the rules of the game. In the cutthroat business world, one adage rules all: keep your enemies close and your ex-lovers closer...

I loved the book but it was so short! I'd love a Gideon&Eva style series based on the two of them. Jax&Gia are so perfect.. I think they deserve their own series and if not a series then at least a proper novel. Give me more Ms. Day!!

Damn you, you fucking evolution!

This book is exactly like all the Fifty Shades/Cross Fire/ This Man series that are dominating at the moment. Rich, mysterious stud meets sassy but beneath-him girl, sparks fly, sex ensues... lots of arguments and running away, lots of secrets, lots of misunderstandings...

I liked the characters and I liked the plot but I felt that it was too repetative. The arguements were the same and with the same outcomes and there was nothing else to concern ourselves with, no minor subplots that I cared about alongside whether Gia and Jax would get it on that night. I felt like it needed to be longer and more developed, but at the same time if it had been left as is, and not padded out with more depth and detail then I'm glad it wasn't drawn out.

One further criticism was the beginning in which Gia and Jax meet and she thinks he doesn't remember her even though they spent five weeks as a couple.. really? Just because she was wearing a business suit? Come on.

Değilim, Sylvia'yı her daim okumaktan keyif alıyorum.
Ama illaki de okumak gerekmiyor. Öyle bir kitap işte.

Jax and Gianna... love second chance romance

I love that I can read a book and watch the movie right after- Passionflex is amazing!

Gianna and Jax have history. Two years before, he ended things with her after five blissful weeks together. Now she’s working for a woman (Lei) and is loving it. One day when they’re trying to seal a deal between twin siblings for competing restaurants, Jax walks in next to their competitor Ian (Lei’s ex and former partner who screwed her over) and takes one of the twins from them. But, the chemistry between Jax and Gianna is thick, palpable, raw and they can’t stay away from each other. She feels very betrayed but can’t deny her strong feelings for him and he has been pining for her all this time. His family is heavily involved in politics and he has always tried to shield her from it all, which is why he broke it off with her years before. But, the heart wants what it wants and they both can’t stop gravitating towards each other. They have to work through their possible future problems and decide if they’re in it for the long haul and if it’s worth it

I loved this duo/book. I do wish it was longer but it was still damn good. The sexy scenes were erotic and sweet. Their connection is undeniable. I wish we could’ve gotten some flashbacks from the past since it would’ve solidified their previous relationship (that chocolate scene would’ve been everything lol) but it still worked with the way it was written.

Rubbed my hands in glee when I downloaded this finished thinking Jax didn't deserve Gia and that he needed to GROVEL. Gia's sass when it came to Jax was all talk and he got his way far too easily, it actually made me grit my teeth more than once.

A second chance romance I could have done with out. It lacked the heat, passion and energy I was expecting/hoping for.

I also watched the passionflix movie of this, which made me laugh on a day I wasn't feeling good so that's something.

~~~
За разлика от "Кросфайър", която, както вече споменах - обожавам, тази дуология не е нищо особено. И въпреки че стилът на писане е лек и бързо се чете, което ми припомни защо харесвам Силвия Дей, то с нищо друго не мога да я похваля, освен че историята има някакъв потенциал, който изобщо не е развит за жалост.
"Екстаз":
В първата книга само еротката си е на ниво и е както трябва написана.
Тук липсва дълбочина на сюжета, както и самия сюжет, като цяло. Няма динамика и не се случва нищо, което да накара читателя да продължи да чете (или да слуша в моя случай).
Логиката в действията на героите никаква я няма, което е и една от причините те да изглеждат толкова недоразвити като образи. Другата причина е, че и в тях липсва особена дълбочина - изглеждат плоски и все едно нямат друг живот от преди Джакс и Джия да се срещнат.
Краят уж е отворен, за да накара читателя да посегне и към втората книга, но е толкова зле написан, все едно книгата свършва по средата на сюжета ни в клин, ни в ръкав.
Оценка: 2/5⭐
~~~
"Еуфория":

I really started out loving this book and then I kinda fell to just liking the book. I'm not sure where it fell apart for me. At times, I didn't like either character. I just wanted them to be honest with one another and the idea that Gia didn't stop to think that a reporter was a bad idea on gathering information on somehow was TSTL. Come on! Obviously, if the guy is keeping it hidden, there is a reason, especially if you know he loves you. Just seemed implausible to me that she wouldn't think of that.

Anyway, I liked the book but didn't love it. Saying that however, I am still looking forward to watching the movie on Passionflix in November. :)

Afterburn & Aftershock by Sylvia Day
Narrated by Amy McFadden
2 novellas, sexy standalone.
I had Afterburn/Aftershock on my Kindle for a few years and never got around to it; but being a Passionflix member, I had to read it before I watched the movie. Still not able to fit it in my schedule, I finally grabbed the audiobook.
“You could never hide from me, Gia. I’d recognize you blindfolded.”

Gia is an Italian New Yorker with a family that owns an Italian restaurant. She grew up in the industry and really wants to make a name for herself on the business end. A year after the man she was falling for just ghosted on her, she applied to be mentored by one of the top women in the restaurant industry, using that heartbreak to help get the position of her dreams.

A year later, one of the biggest restaurant deals she has ever worked on hits a snag. And that snag is Jackson Rutledge, the guy who broke her heart. At first she pretended not to know him and she thought he didn’t recognize her (wtf? It’s only been 2 years and they spent a whole summer together) but he certainly remembered, and he was ready to pick up right where they left off.
My body didn't care that he'd dumped me without a word. It wanted Jax. Desperately…

Despite them being on opposite sides of this deal, there was no denying the chemistry between them, and there was no shortage of sexy times. But she needs more than that this time.
“I’m on to you, Jackson Rutledge.” My voice was low and hard, unwavering. “I’m going to figure you out.”

There was surprisingly a lot of story in this duet. There is a lot on the restaurant business end of things, which I found very interesting. Gia was a strong businesswoman, but when it came to Jax, she lost her edge.
“I wasn’t me when I was in bed with him; I was his. Willing and ready to do whatever he wanted, to take whatever he chose to give me, knowing he would make me come again and again…”

Likes:

•I liked that she was an Italian New Yorker with a typical Italian family.
•I really liked the restaurant business part of the story.
•There was plenty of hot sex.

Dislikes:

•She would constantly say she wouldn’t give in to him and 2 minutes later they were boinking.
•I never really felt their connection. Perhaps if we had a scene when they were originally together I would have liked it better.
•It seems older (and it is, it’s from 2013/2014) but it seems like it was one of those books that rode on Fifty’s popularity.

The Narration:
I grew up in aNew York Italian neighborhood. My husband is a NY Italian. The narrator did a good, but over-the-top New York accent and I think it detracted a little from the story. It just never lets you get past the accent. I may have enjoyed reading it more.

The Down & Dirty:
I had a little trouble getting past the too-thick NY accent so I don’t think I really fell in love with it. It was a good, quick, sexy listen with a strong businesswoman and a super rich, powerful, Dominant man. My favorite parts were actually reading about the restaurants more than the romance. I enjoyed it, but I didn’t love it.

Rating: 3.25 Stars, 4.25 Heat, 4 Narration

Purchase AfterBurn & AfterShock (Book)

The Movie Review:
Afterburn and Aftershock are on Passionflix or you can rent or buy on Amazon. Passionflix does a great job of keeping details from the original stories and following them closely and I loved that they got all the important stuff in. The movie didn’t quite get into the business end as much, but enough to know what is going on. The casting threw me a little at first, but she was actually perfect for Gia. I felt that he was a bit too boyish for Jax, but he grew on me. I think this is a great movie to watch whether you read the books first or not. Plus it was fun seeing her cameo!

Movie Rating: 4.25 Stars, 4 Heat

This is an interesting new collaboration between Cosmopolitan, Harlequin UK and Mills & Boon. The Cosmo Red Hot Reads, romance with super hot saucy scenes to top it all off.
Gianna is a smart determined woman with clear goals for the future, when it comes to her career and life in general. Those plans start to shake and crumble when an old lover turns up for a second round of hot fast loving. He doesn't seem to think he needs her approval to take up where they left off or needs to say sorry for just disappearing after their last attempt at a relationship.
Somewhere in the midst of the extremely candid banter about their lust for each other there is also an important factor about family and choices to be heard. Gia and her family are down to earth and straight shooters, whereas Jax comes from a family of career politicians. He lives in a world where truth is only catered to when it suits the political agenda.
The two of them need to find a way to combine the passion with the reality of everyday life. That just happens to be far more complicated than it sounds.
If you are looking for spice with your romance and shivers of pleasure down your back combined with the infuriating need to shake some sense into the characters you read, then Sylvia Day most certainly delivers all of those things and more.
I received a copy of this book courtesy of Harlequin UK and Mills & Boon.

See raamat pani mõtlema..

I didn't realize I had the wrong edition/format so this is the correct title for which I am posting a review.

Overall rating: 4 stars... I may have to re-read some parts in print format, because my attention was not always fully in the audio book because I was TRYING to get tons of stuff done while I was listening to this. I enjoyed this better than Bared to You, but I didn't like it as well as her paranormal vampire books or her Historicals. I think Sylvia Days HR's are better, but different strokes for different folks...

Format: audible audiobook, ~7 hrs! listened in one day! There was very little break between the two novellas so it was basically like one story in audio format.

Gianna and Jax (Jackson Rutledge)... At first glance the characters are quite similar to the characters in the Crossfire series-- setting in NYC, a young woman determined to succeed, and a rich, powerful, dominant, urban, über-sexy male with a big c**k, big sex drive and stamina, who loves to talk dirty...

The difference is that this story moves along at a brisk pace, and there is no dark BDSM/kink (hallelujah!) involved in their bedroom play.

Lots of wonderful Italian family interactions, and the Brooklyn accent of the narrator made this part just come to life! Gia has protective, nosy older bros who swear a lot (lots of F-bombs, LOL!) and have some interesting romantic histories of their own, I just wanted to hug Niko and Vincent at the end for fixing her problems! I also wouldn't mind a novella about Niko!

In the second half, Gia's insecurity causes her to do something stupid and it results in a rift between them...this is resolved thanks to her meddling family and some semi-crazy snooping behavior by Gia.

Rating breakdown: (I have a lot of half- stars)
Plot: 3
Hero characterization rating: 4.5
Heroine " " : 3 stars
Erotic tension rating: 4.5
Erotic descriptiveness rating: 5 stars
Erotic frequency: 4? I will have to re-read in print format!
Writing style/flow/grammar: 5 stars
Narrator rating: voice quality: 3 (at first her voice was annoying)
Narrator Expressiveness/characterizations: 5 stars
Denouement: 4.5 stars

Highly recommend for fans of the Crossfire series who want something quicker and just as steamy!

How the hell did I miss this one!
This book was outstanding and made me fall in love with Sylvia Day’s writing all over again.
I love the feeling a book like this brings.
It’s compelling and so well written you instantly fall into that vacuum where nothing else exists. Intense and gritty with phenomenal characters this is one of those books you cannot get enough of.
Jax and Gia were mesmerising. Two powerful characters with an undeniable Passion for each other that totally got inside my head.
Incredibly sexy and classy this second chance at romance hit all the right buttons. The tension this story creates literally pours from the pages and more than satisfied my thirst for romance.
Absolutely loved it!
Seriously one for your TBR.

I fell in love instantly.
After reading it again I realised how much I loved the characters and the overall story once again. Sylvia is a master at creating the right amount of tension, angst and more making it seem more like being in the moment than a story. She has cleverly woven a tale that you are more than invested in the outcome and want to keep reading because you need to know what is happening with the wonderful characters.

İşte buna Sylvia Day farkı diyorum ben. Herkese de tavsiye ederim.

Puanım: 5

Not: Bu kadın ne yazarsa yazsın güzel yazıyor, NET! (:
