After surviving a nightmare, supermodel Ruth Monihan's past is firmly in her rearview mirror. But when unwanted gifts threaten to drag her back into the darkness, she turns to a tall, dark, and deadly operative with fire-tested skills and courage to unmask a stalker with a lethal agenda.
Living and working in the shadows is a matter of survival for Fortress operative Ben Martin. But when the woman who rocked his world asks for help, the battle-hardened warrior walks into the limelight, triggering a cascade of events that may conclude with their deaths.
Y'all know how much I love Ms. Deel's books. So imagine my surprise when I realize that I never reviewed one of them. Gotta love a reason to reread books by a favorite author.
Ruth and Ben both have demons in their past that they have a hard time with. Both think that they are broken and not good enough to have someone special in their lives. But past trauma is what paves the path from friendship to something more.
I absolutely adored these two and loved watching them not only grow stronger as individuals, but also as a couple. These two were made for each other. Both knew what the other one was experiencing and knew just what to say and how to help each other. These two are definitely favorites of mine!
While I loved these two, I do have to say, there were a few things that held me back from completely loving it.
I was really disappointed with Bridget and Trace for the way they treated Ben. The way they reacted to the news of Ben and Ruth becoming a couple was ridiculous. Neither one of them thought Ben was "good enough" for her because of his past that they knew nothing about. I struggled with it because it wasn't true to their characters.
I was also disappointed in the few plot points that were left unresolved (there's no resolution for the second half of the "mystery"), as well as some inconsistencies (in the previous book Ruth doesn't have any allergies but in this one she's death allergic to strawberries and she also spent time in Bayside with Sorensen in the previous book but doesn't know who he is in the book) and grammatical errors that should've been caught my beta readers and/or an editor. Had I not loved Ben and Ruth so much, I probably would've given it a lower rating.
I seriously cannot get enough of Ms. Deel's books. They're all favorites that I can read over and over again. I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next!
And of course I cannot forget my casting. I absolutely LOVE these two! What do you think?!
It’s no secret that I love Rebecca Deel’s books- I squeal in delight, immediately purchase and download the newest book, and then do a happy dance around my kitchen. While I enjoy all of her books in her two series, I definitely have my favorites and this book just became a new one for me.
Ruth is first introduced to us in the Fortress Security Book 10, where we read about her sister Bridget and Trace. I have been dying to know her story ever since, and I suspected it might have something to do with Ben Martin, the last remaining single guy from his special ops team. I was so happy to be right!
Ruth and Ben have such broken hearts from trauma in their pasts, but watching them grow together and draw strength from one another as they worked to uncover a crazed cult leader and an escalating stalker was sweet and tender. I loved the combination of action, adventure and mystery with a sweet and toe-curling romance- and this book has it all in spades.
There were a few parts of the plot that were left unresolved or not really explained at the end that bothered me a bit, but not enough to ruin the book.
Definitely a new favorite in the series- and I’m already daydreaming about what the next book will be about!
I just love Ruth and Ben! This romance was a little bit of a slower build than some others, and I really enjoyed it. Both Ruth and Ben have demons from their past, but they are just perfect together and have the strength to overcome it. This story had lots of action and kept me on the edge of my seat. I also loved having Durango help out! The ending was adorable. Can't wait for the next one!
Having met both Ruth and Ben in previous books,I had high expectations for this book and I wasn't disappointed! Ruth continues to prove she is stronger than any of them think, determined to recover from her kidnapping, she stumbles, falters occasionally, but with Ben by her side the life she wants is within her grasp. Can she hold on tight and ride out the storm? Everything within Ben makes him want to stand infront of Ruth to protect her from the world but he knows she needs his support and his faith in order to regain control of her life. The only way for him to keep her respect and win her heart is to stand beside her, hold her, reassure her, love her and not make decisions for her. A fantastic series packed with amazing men and the women who steal their hearts, available on Kindle Unlimited I am not sure why you wouldn't read it!
This book really tugged the heart strings. Poor Ben has had it really rough but I'm so glad his team found out about his past and have helped him remove the danger. It was also fantastic to see how Joe and Sam interacted within the team as a married couple and to hear their banter 😍.
[Spoiler coming up] I thought for a moment Ben would ask to be moved to a different team after the way Trace came down hard on Ben and his growing relationship with Ruth - and in so doing implying his lack of trust in Ben and questioning their own friendship - but I'm glad that's not the case. [End of spoiler.]
I like the fact Rebecca doesn't forget about other characters - mentioning Veronica and bringing in Eli and Jon, and then mentioning they are forming their own team, and getting Durango to help in the rescue.
Basically, I loved the book.

This was quite a fast paced story which read well following the life, after her kidnapping, of Ruth known as Roxanne a top model. After receiving stalkerish items she approaches Fortress and in particular Ben, who has his own hidden problems, for help. The setting moves between the USA and Mexico and covers, very lightly, a few subjects that readers may find distressing such as kidnapping, cults and the mention of human trafficking. However these aren't followed through in any detail. It's a light read but enjoyable. The author gives hints of things being resolved and this does lead to reader questions, for example what happened to the stalker couple? It's still a good read for its genre.
This was a great story of more than just redemption but of also triumph. Both Ben and Ruth have suffered severe trauma. I believe the author sis a good job alluding to the trauma without going into great detail. They both realized that they had to heal individually in order to be the best couple they could be. There is drama, action, and suspense. I do wish that the reader could have had the chance to see some closure on Ben and his mother’s relationship. There wasn’t a conversation to do that. I also think some of the wording could be updated as people don’t really use terms like creeps and bozos. Otherwise I love this series.
Finally we get to know about Ben's past. Ruth was in a previous book when they rescued her from Mexico & a crazy guy. The rest of Shadow & some old friends show up to help out when the action heats up. A great book that I will definitely be reading again soon! 5 stars!
This book has suspense and great characters. It is about the journey of Ben and Ruth to each other and also has Ben reuniting with his mother. There is some cruelty and darkness in the story which I don't enjoy reading. Still, it is entertaining and has the happy ending I enjoy.
Another wonderful book from Ms. Deel! I love the story of Ben and Ruth: How two imperfect people can have a love so solid and complete. I was riveted to the story and couldn’t put it down! I can’t wait until the Ms. Deel’s next book is available!
This series has never let me down. Each book has strong characters and a great storyline. I wait for each one in this series and The Otter Creek series. The characters appear in both series and are part of the background to the plot. I enjoy both and have read them over and over. For certain one of the best series out.
Ben and Ruth are perfect for each other. This book hit all the feels and left me warm and fuzzy! Rebecca Deel never ceases to amaze me with her stories but this one tops them all! Can't wait for the next one.
While the series can be slightly formulated I can't stop reading each one that is released. This one definitely was different from others in the series since the female lead wasn't from the same town
If been a f and of Miss Deel's book from the beginning. They never get old. The stories stay fresh. I really like the fact that all the other characters mingle in and out of her boos.
I really enjoy Rebecca Deel's books... Her books have suspense, love, fun and are an on going series (but can be read as stand alone). The characters seem real and fun. Read one and you will want to read them all
Ben and Ruth is an awesome story. It was nice to see this couple again and watch the love and trust grow between them as well as their protect instincts for each other.
Thanks Rebecca for another great story. I love Ben and Ruth and am so happy for their happy ever after. The trauma the two of them went through shows how strong they are to come out of it finding happiness. Can’t wait for the next book.
I am a big fan of Rebecca’s Fortress Securities & Otter Creek books Shadow Redemption is no exception. The story is terrific and Ben & Ruth are a great couple - am glad they found each other. Looking forward to Rebecca’s next book!
Great story of healing and love. Ben and Ruth had so much love and friendship for each other. The story tackles some heavy subjects. Great road to their HEA.
The story is too confusing --both main characters have hidden problems. The Fortress part is sadly lacking. The previous Fortress stories were much better.
I loved this book. Been a long time coming but worth the wait. Can't wait for Rebecca's next Otter Creek book. Or whatever she releases next. Love her books
