This is full-on wish fulfillment fantasy.
Specifically, it is my wish fulfillment fantasy and I had many words with Toki while we read this together.
I hope to return home to a clean house, an amazing dinner, and my cat, who has decided it's time for him to take care of me for a change, wearing an apron and being all smug about everything he accomplished while I was at work.

Oh wow. This is just lovely.

And the purrfect fantasy. Who wouldn't want a giant, snuggly cat who can cook and clean and iron?!?! Bit of a Way of The Househusband vibe from the domestic side.

Aaaaah it's just SO NICE.

I'm not a cat person, but apparently, I am a cat manga person...😆😆😆

I was gifted this volume from my Secret Santa and was SO excited because this series has been on lowkey TBR foreverrrr it feels!

After reading this first volume, I totally should have read it sooner! 😜

It sort of reminds me of Wonder Cat Kyuu-chan in the sense that when you read it, you sort of relax and unwind while reading. There aren't many "stakes" and if there are "stakes," it wraps up before the volume (even chapter) ends. If not that, it at the least makes you wish that you had a masterful cat because life would be soooooo much easier if we all had one! LOL!

Saku is a fun heroine to follow and really enjoyed a lot of her expressions! She's definitely different than the hero in the Penguin & House manga who totally doesn't appreciate anything Pen-chan does for him, which I appreciated in this volume that Saku does appreciate her Yukichi! She whines and begs at times, but I think it makes her more relatable because Yukichi does make some delicious-looking food! LOL!

I LOVE her boss and hands down shipping Saku and him together! LOL! Sort of random I realize, but I really enjoyed his appearances throughout this volume and hope we see more of him.

Overall, this was a lot of fun to read! I've already added the next few volumes to my wish list because I definitely feel this is a series that I would pick up when I want some laughter and chill, but also fun vibes. Recommended!!

A humorous domestic fantasy in which a slacker twentysomething office worker adopts a kitten that grows into a man-sized cat who walks upright and acts as her housekeeper and general caretaker. Yukichi the cat gets Saku out the door in the morning in time for work, cleans all day, and has a hot meal waiting on the table when she gets home. So, yeah, the perfect househusband. (Been there, doing that again.)

There is a romantic interest at work for Saku, so this doesn't seem to be going down a furries/bestiality route. It's just super-mild, slice-of-life humor with a recurring joke being how nobody seems to notice the large cat shopping at the grocery store or they just assume he's a guy in a promotional mascot costume if they do make eye contact.

I might try one more volume, but I'm already sure the short, sitcom-y chapters aren't going to hold my interest in the long run.

this is such a fun read!

I love cat mangas, but this one is a bit different. It’s about a giant cat who tries his best to take care of his human, who is a bit of a mess. I loved it, if you like cats and absurd situations you’ll love it too!

A young woman takes in a stray kitten, even though she’s a bit of a disaster herself. Now older, the cat, Yukichi, has gone through a wee growth spurt and is bigger than Saku, his owner. Yes, Miss Saku’s Feline Maid has learned the Way of the Housecathusband and is here to clean up her house and her act.

This book is part of the inexplicably growing sub-genre that I will term ‘things that look funny in aprons’. This time around we have a giant anthropomorphic cat and I am certainly not complaining, I have to say.

Who hasn’t wanted a giant pile of floof that’s actually life sized and knows how to cook? I mean, undoubtedly a lot of people, but Yukichi is so frigging cute that the sight of him carries a lot of this book.

The book is very absurd but is at its absolute best when it leans hard into the absurdity. I think my favourite sections involve Yukichi at the grocery store, which has some great toebean action and one poor harried employee, and an extensive plot about a idol/magical girl group formed around sea urchins of all things - they run way farther with this than they need to and the book’s better for it.

Saku is, for better or worse, your typical harried worker who also fails at taking care of herself. Some of this is less successful - the utter mess stereotype is not one I’m super fond of (it says ‘likes strong female leads’ right in my bio, folks), but I get that there’s no book without some kind of friction to play with.

I don’t hate it, but I’ve seen enough of these books over the years that I’d rather have something new. It flips a gender stereotype that’s been flipped so often that it’s barely worth flipping any more.

It does work in the sense that Saku is such a total calamity that she needs Yukichi to help her out and some of his distinctive cat behaviours make for some hilarious outcomes - his suspicious looking ‘rolled cigarette (of catnip) and being forced to kill a roach instead of toy with it are great. His love of churu treats reminds me of my own cat, so bonus points there.

I could do without the tired body shaming, though when the two of them are being sweet it nearly makes up for it. Cheers with cans of beer and cat food, a body pillow that purrs loudly, there’s a lot to like here. We get bonus manga from Yukichi’s perspective that make him seem like an uppity (but caring) Mr. Belvedere type (kids, ask your parents) and I am here for that.

3.5 stars, but rounding reserved for the second volume that I will most certainly get. This book has a full page spread of Yukichi in various aprons so, trust me, it knows what it wants to be and I imagine it’ll only get better at it as it goes.

TW: Mentions of weight gain, substance (alcohol)

Fans of The Way of the Househusband would love this! It has that similar domestic life vibe. Instead of the incredible ex-Yakuza husband, Tatsu, we have an adorable stoic cat protagonist called Yukichi!! I relate so much to Saku. Life can be hard, okay?? I also want a 'butler' cat to help me around the house.

Overall, this was such a fun and heartwarming read. I haven't been feeling well these past few days. It lifted my spirits. I can't wait to read the second volume. This is quickly going into my favourites list for sure!!!

Such a perfect comfort read.

As a 31 year old who works and struggles to look after myself much like Saku, this book not only made me feel a little better about myself but it's funny too.

I have a cats but they live with family members so I don't see them often so this book also made me think of them ❤️

5 ⭐️ comfort read.

Saku is a typical office worker who spends long days away from home, which would be a total wreck if it weren't for her cat. Yukichi was a rescue, but he's not your typical feline. He's grown to people-size, and he's a fastidious homemaker. He's taking care of his human (instead of the other way around).

Charmingly funny. Yukichi is this amazing blend of doting, exasperated, and protective. Pets really can enrich your life.

2.5/5

I work in a library (doing ILLs), and have seen this series going out to other libraries and was curious about it. One of my co-workers saw it and yoinked the first volume once it came back and was delighted by it, so I also had to check it out natch.

This is really cute. I really adore Yukicki the human sized cat (and wish I had his cooking skills). Saku, his owner, a little less so. I liked her for the most part but the "can barely function as an adult" schtick got old real fast. She's clearly meant to be one of those ditzy hot mess characters that you just can't help but love; if this were a live action, she'd probably be played by a Zooey Deschanel type. But she quickly worked my nerve as the volume progressed.

Willing to continue because this acts as a sort of palette cleanser in between other books I'm reading.

A Real Cat-itude

This is a fun book with a silly concept and interesting characters that make it a fun and occasionally fast read. When a kitten is saved by a an irresponsible woman he is so grateful he decides to take care of her with his unusually high intelligence. Throw into the package an unusual growth spurt and a talent to use tools and you have the perfect housekeeping cat making this a manga version of the classic Odd Couple style show. Though considering what the title of the series claims I am not sure exactly how depressed the masterful cat really is.

With an assortment of quick slice of life tales some of my favorites are Yukichi trying to wake up Saku, Saku's struggle against being weighed, and Yukichi's adventure to meet the Idols UMYU-Sea. Hopefully if you read this book you will discover your own favorites. :)

i want a big fluffy cat that takes care of the cooking and housework like Yukichi 😭🥺 actually i just want a big fluffy cat period.

n e way, this was so cute and wholesome and ofc i love yukichi :,D he’s my fav charac in this manga series, which is no surprise at all.

it’s a pretty light read and ofc you have to suspend some disbelief (esp when the cat goes outside into public haha) but all in all, it was a fun and cute read :)

Cat manga is one of those subgenres that just brings me so much joy, and this is no exception. Saku is basically helpless without her giant cat, and the nurturing and structure said cat provides is sweet. I have a theory why Yukichi has grown so unusually big, but I guess we'll see in future volumes.

Cute and funny. Who wouldn't want to have a human-sized cat cook, clean, and care for you? But the relationship between the owner and the cat is genuinely heartfelt too. A lot of funny or cute scenarios, very fun

What a fun bit of fantasy! I wish my cat could help keep my life on track with all the cooking and cleaning.

I picked up this book for my library’s bingo challenge of reading a YA book, Book 1 of a series, and a graphic novel. Yes, I triple dipped with this book, and I’m happy I did.
