Alright, the series is a classic body switch comedy... it's been done a thousand times. So, what does it bring new to the table? Well, for one thing it follows a fangirl who switches with her favorite idol... that's a pretty clever spin. Not only are we dealing with very different lives, we've got someone literally becoming their idol.

This is a series has so much potential; it's already funny, the art is good and the creator's previous work was solid enough that I expect this to improve. As things stand it is an entertaining effort, and that's a great start for a series like this, though I completely understand if people would be turned off by it being filled with a lot of classic tropes.

If you're wanting something completely new and original, this is probably not the manga for you. If you enjoy classic tropes and just want a few good laughs, this is the book for you. 4/5 stars

Look, I can’t rate this on potential, just what’s in front of me. Otherwise it would have been a lot higher. I feel like there’s a lot of fertile ground for a good series, but this volume is cute rather than hilarious and overstuffed with underdeveloped characters (not an uncommon first volume problem).

Azusa is, shall we say, slightly obsessed with Chika (we even see her shrine in all its glory and it’s... something else - I bet it was fun to draw though). She attempts to save his life during his idol group’s performance and the two start switching bodies thanks to a screw-up by (literally) God, who comes off like a lesser deity in all this.

At first it looks like we’re about to rehash Yamada-kun & the Seven Witches with the body swapping kiss, then it gets a little more mysterious. Though not too mysterious, since this is not that kind of manga. I appreciate them switching it up, no pun intended.

[As an aside, does Japan have the most malicious staircases in all of fiction? You just know when you see two characters on one that there’s a better than average chance some unintended tripping and an inappropriate landing is about to occur. Stair-sempai must be truck-kun’s cousin or something.]

It’s all fairly cute and amusing, rather than riotously funny. Azusa isn’t half as annoying as she easily could be, which is a serious achievement given her personality. She and Chika are nowhere near as combative as you’d expect either, mercifully. There’s some potential, as I said - the way Azusa in Chika’s body is able to do the band’s dances better than him because of her intense study is a fun idea but they don’t do enough with it (or most of the ideas here).

It veers a little too close to Kiss Him, Not Me for my liking, but that series was pretty fun overall so we’ll see. I do think the bonus chapter at the very end starring the characters from said previous series is a great touch, but it’s also funnier than the rest of the book, which pretty much lays out where this volume falls down.

Classic and tropey but quite funny.

Keywords: manga, romance, young adult, contemporary, body swap

Star Crossed is a manga about a girl crushing on a famous singer. Her chance at love with him seems impossible until one day she found herself swapped to his body. It's a hillarious story about the girl and the singer trying to control the situation in this chaotic madness.

The story of this manga is fun, lighthearted and leans more into comedy. The art is pretty ok too. Alas love story between fans and artist isn't really my cup of tea so I don't really vibes with it. But I'm sure many would find this enjoyable and entertaining read to fill the time.

Thank you Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for lending me e-arc of this manga in exchange of honest review.

When’s the last time I had this much fun with a manga? Way too long ago!

Lately it’s been very difficult for me to find a shoujo manga series I really care about, where I turn pages without looking at how many I have left. I usually try a couple more volumes before giving up. This manga though! It was a breath of fresh air and I finally don’t feel like I’ve already read this story a million times. Plus it was hilarious!! I literally laughed every other page. In comparison to other shoujos I’ve read, this one doesn’t censor stuff as much, and you can understand how that plays out in the story with a girl and a boy exchanging bodies lol. I can’t believe what my eyes have seen but honestly I was just dying with laughter the entire time. I love how this volume was silly and didn’t take itself too seriously.

I can’t wait to read the next volume! I’m especially looking forward to seeing what God will mess up next and what effect fangirl Azu will have on Chika’s boy group 😆

I received an advanced reader copy through Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

This was a blast from start to finish! I'm a little surprised that Azusa's fangirling didn't annoy me as much as I thought it would, but I guess it's because she's not rude, possessive, or harming anyone with her actions. Yes, some of her actions are creepy, but again she's not portrayed as one of those "I'll kidnap my idol so he'll only notice me" kind of fans. Chika isn't a particularly interesting character, but he was fun and I did grow to like him as the volume went on.

But what I loved most was the artwork/ art style. Holy shit, Junko went above and beyond with some of these expressions/ reactions and I love her for it! Anyone who knows me knows I'm absolute trash for expressive artwork/ art style, and this volume delivered 110% and I couldn't be more grateful. On top of the that, the paneling and more emotional scenes were handled really well and writing was good.

Overall, this was a fun first in what I'm sad to know is a fairly short series. However, I'm hoping that I enjoy the rest of the series as much as I did this volume, here's hoping for a fun second volume!

An idol and his number one fan switch bodies after a freak accident. That is the synopsis...aaand that's basically it. I hoped to like this or at least to be entertained, but it was just meh. Azusa( the fangirl) is OBSESSED with the idol guy, Chikashi. And it's annoying honestly. There were a couple of funny scenes of them being in each other's bodies and acting weird, those were genuinely fun. But I wasn't interested in the romance at all. Really, what kind of romantic relationship can there be between a star and his way to obsessive fan? Sadly, this one didn't work for me and I won't be continuing with the series.

Thanks Kodansha Comics and Netgalley for trying out this manga by the author who did “Kiss him not me” (loved that series so much!).

While, the art was glorious, the story was sorta underwhelming like I felt I didn’t connect with the characters as much as I like and there were just too many generic tropes appearing every so often. I mean all it’s about is a over the top fan girl swapping bodies with an idol guy. It is rather lighthearted and romantic but it just wasn’t for me chief.....

Junko’s series are hit-and-miss with me, to be honest, and a body-switching premise is not the most unique idea ever. But there are cute moments scattered in this volume. Even so, the obsessive fan of a heroine can be a little grating, just as the too-cool idol boy isn’t the most notable male lead ever. I’m still interested in seeing where this manga may go from here, though.

I received this manga from Netgalley/the publisher in exchange of an honest review.

I am quite a fan of Junko’s work (still really need to get on with reading Kiss Him not Me) and so I was delighted when I bumped against this one on Netgalley. I just had to click request!

Meet fangirl Azusa, she LOVE LOVE LOVES Chika-kun of the idol group: Prince 4 U! One day during a concert (also who the hell needs cutlery or something for their car when they have no car, seriously I get loving an idol but that was just weird) she saves his life and dies along with him. That sucks right? Save your idol but die as well? Well, thankfully God is there and sends them back… with a few malfunctions. Like switching bodies. Haha. Yep. Though I was a bit sad given that the blurb specifies that they have to kiss to switch back/forth, but actually they haven’t found out the one ingredient to switch back or figured out why they keep changing bodies. Yep, they just randomly change bodies (or would that mean soul?). I had quite a laugh at how it randomly seemed to happen and how they were trying to figure out what was going on. God definitely not helped, just sent them messages that they were working on it. In the mean time Chika-kun doesn’t make such a fuss about being in Azusa’s body while Azusa goes full fangirl mode.

I wasn’t always a fan of Azusa. While I liked Chika-kun immediately as he was very likeable and sparkly and fun, and stayed relatively calm despite now being in a girl’s body. Whereas Azusa was just too much for me. Her fangirling was just borderline, no wait, skip that, over the line creepy. I mean seriously, she keeps having a nosebleed and says all sorts of things that just creeped me out. Yes, girl, you are in the body of your favourite idol, but eww, no just no. I was already happy that she had respect for him in a way, aka not immediately stripping him. She respected that line at least. I seriously thought she would just strip out Chika-kun’s clothes for a chance to see him (or herself in this case) naked. I am glad that at times we also saw another Azusa, but yeah, the fangirl Azusa can just leave the premise for all I care. Or tone down. A lot.

But I guess it does help that the one you change bodies with knows your songs and movements. Though there is still enough that shows people there is something wrong with Chika-kun. But she tries and I like that. It mustn’t be easy going from normal school girl to idol with just a poof.

I am glad with the ending and I had quite a laugh how that person eventually believed our duo. That is one way to get someone to believe. Haha, I cannot wait to see what this will mean for our duo, will this make things easier?

I am not sure how I felt about the portrayal of God as an idiot/clumsy old man. I mean, I am religious and I am open for some things, but this just felt a bit too much at time, especially with how angry they got at him and kept cursing at him (which to be fair is fair but it just got on the wrong side for me).

The bonus manga was fun, but for someone who hasn’t read the whole Kiss Him Not Me series it was quite confusing.

All in all, I really laughed and enjoyed this first volume. Yes, there were things I didn’t particularly like… but in overall good volume. Interesting premise. I like that it isn’t just kissing, because frankly that just isn’t original and can get very cringy. I liked the art, especially the boys. Junko is good at drawing boys! 🙂 I cannot wait for the next volume!

I received a copy from Kodansha Comics through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Azusa lives and breathes for her idol, Chika, from Prince 4 U. Now that she has front row tickets to see him, she’s about to have the best day of her life. At least, that’s what was supposed to happen. When a freak accident results in both of their deaths, they meet each other in heaven as God informs them that they weren’t meant to die. It was all a mistake and He’s returning their souls to their bodies. Unfortunately for them, there’s a bit mix up and they wake up in each other’s bodies.

We follow Azusa, who believes all her good deeds has earned those front row tickets to see her idol. She aims to be the perfect student, peer, friend, and family member. When she swaps places with her idol, Chika, she enters a whole new world. Not only is she internally fangirling hard, but she’s now tasked with pulling off interviews and performances whenever they swap places at a bad time. It all goes well until it doesn’t, which is absolutely hilarious.

I’ve seen a few body swap movies growing up and thought they were hilarious, so of course I was all over this. I usually see body swaps presented with family members switching places and such, so having a fan and her idol switch places is an excellent and hilarious twist on this age-old comedy plot. I was not in any way disappointed and found myself laughing from beginning to end.

I’m interested in learning more about Azusa and Chika as the series continues. We don’t learn a lot about Chika in this volume, but there was a lot going on and we primarily follow Azusa. What we know about Chika is mainly through her eyes as a fan, so I am interested in learning more about him while seeing what kind of character development is in store for Azusa. I am definitely picking up the next volume because this was a fun and hilarious read.

A Fangirl and her Favorite Idol die and get brought back to life in each other's bodies. What could go wrong?!?
This manga was so hilarious. Just imagine all the daily stuff you do, now imagine you have to do all this in your fav idols body.... Yeah the author doesn't hold back on this 😂
I already love both the main characters, they are both very likeable and they both play off each other very well.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time reading this, I had a smile on my face the entire time.
I need Vol 2 ASAP

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was such a fluffy and fun little book. The story follows our main characters as they switch bodies and try to stay on top of the situation as things turn into chaos. It is really cute and funny, with a pretty art style, and lovable characters.

I originally thought this would be an actual star-crossed lovers sort of manga but this turned out to be so much more than that! This was hilarious!

We follow two people, Azusa who is a super fangirl of this idol group P4U and we follow one of the members, Azusa’s favourite, Chika. They both get into an accident at one of his concerts that results in their death but God sends them back to earth, alive once more but.. with a twist. They continuously switch bodies!

This was a hilarious story, especially when they were in each other’s bodies and had to manage life like that. I do wish we got to see more of a friendship forming between them. We got a little sparkle of it but it kept getting overshadowed by all of Azusa’s fangirling.

Overall, I had a blast reading this one and flew through it. It was a super light-hearted read!

It doesn't usually take me this long to complete reading a book (or as in this case, a 'manga') and/or posting a review of it. But if it does, then of course there's something wrong.
My primary reason for requesting this arc was the author. I have read and watched the anime version of Junko's previous work 'Kiss him, not me' and enjoyed it immensely. I was curious to see what she would do with this one. Although it is a classic body-switch comedy, it is between an idol/singer and his fan. That twist gives it enough of a freshness in my view.
The problem arose when it couldn't held my attention past few pages. So maybe its me and my 2-second attention span. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But I really wanted to love it. In fact, I may ditch a book but it is rare for me to dnf a manga.
I will come back and try it again later.

This was so fun! I was originally worried about what I would think and whether I'd enjoy it as I saw some mixed reviews, but honestly its so intriguing and I can't wait for volume 2!! I think you simply need to not take it too seriously; it's supposed to be lighthearted and cute, not a fully fleshed out manga on the science of body-switching and maybe that is what some people had problems with. I'm not usually much of a romance manga fan but I definitely recommend this one!

I received an e-copy of Star-Crossed from Kodansha through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review. I was pleasantly surprised by this volume. I had heard mixed things but I really enjoyed this first volume. I look forward to see where this series goes from here.

Star-Crossed is about Azusa who is a huge fan girl for the idol group P4U, especially from Chika-kun. During one of the groups performance a stage light starts to fall on Chika so Azusa who was in the audience run on stage in an attempt to save him but fails. The stage light falls and kill them both. After they died they meet God who said he messed up and killed them by mistake. So God brings them back to life but he messes up and put them in the wrong bodies.

I recommend this series to anyone looking for a funny Shojo series.

Oh, this was just silly.

Azusa is a loyal fan. She loves Chika-kun so much to the point that she dies for him in order to safe his life. However, they both die and after their death they are told that there is a chance of going back to their lives on Earth. However, when they wake up, they find out that their bodies are switched so that each one's soul is in the body of the other. Now, they have to figure out how to live this way until they return normal again.

This was hard for me to read. It was very weird. The characters were silly. Everything was just bonkers!!

This was a classic shoujo manga that I have read. I wasn't expecting myself to love it or hate it, but I was pleasantly surprised for liking this enough to continue on with the series. Even though this has the classic trope of highschoolers falling for each other, it was a fun time. I really like to read books that are about highschoolers so I can be in their life for a while. Being in highschool was fun and this reminded me of highschool.

I’m clearly in the mood for romcoms right now so this one was perfect for me.

This is the story about Azusa, an extreme fangirl who goes to a concert but then, an accident happens and before she knows, she’s in heaven with her beloved idol: Chika-san.

Apparently them dying was a mistake, so “God” gives them their life back, but trouble is that their bodies are swapped, hence, a lot of troublesome things happen and now they’ll have to find a way to return to their own bodies.

Now, this manga has a lot of tropes we’ve seen before but I really liked the comedy aspect of it and I was laughing a lot with Asuza’s expressions and crazy devotion for Chika, who doesn’t seem like a bad guy at all.

I don’t consider myself an extreme fan like her but I can get why she doesn’t show “her true self” to her classmates or other people she interacts with. She’s relatable (at some level) and I can’t wait to read the next volume!

This is the first time I read something by the author but it made me want to pick up her other completed stories! I highly recommend it to you if you’re looking for a romcom that would make you laugh a lot.

A super cute read that I had to pick up right away! Chika-kun’s personality is actually not what I expected it to be. I expected him to be at least mildly pompous, conceited, and self-centered, but in reality he cares a lot about Azusa as a fellow person. I half expected him to be the type of person to even blame Azusa for the mix-up, a total case of “don’t meet your idols”. But he’s truly a decent person and does his best to do his part in making things right for the both of them, and not worsening anything for either one of them. He also doesn’t have a temper problem, unlike other hot male leads in similar shojo comics, and he’s just overall pleasant and mildly ordinary, with his good looks and hard work to set him apart. As for Azusa, she also pleasantly surprised me somewhat in that in spite of her intense obsession with Prince 4 U and Chika-kun specifically, she draws a hard line between idolization and an interpersonal relationship. She recognizes that her and Chika-kun have no relation to each other, nor would they, and she doesn’t get her hopes up in pursuing such. Instead, she savors the moments she does have with him and doesn’t ask for more. She’s happy as an avid, rabid fan.
I’m quite the fan of the characters in this world, and the art and story themselves are quite pleasing as well. I’m hungry and eager for much more.

Thanks to Netgalley for providing a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

This story was too ridiculous.

I only wanted to read it because it’s from the same mangaka of Kiss Him Not Me, and the reason this has an extra star is because of the surprise short chapter at the end, but based on Star-Crossed alone, this premise was too goofy.

It’s strange because the tone feels similar to KHNE, but the story was a mess. Our main female lead is obsessed with an idol, and it creeped me out with how devoted she was too him. Like his posters are her wall paper. And she kisses them. I just can’t relate. Yes, obsessed fans like her exist, some more than others, but having them as the love interest of said idol she is obsessed with it makes the whole thing seem creepy.

Maybe it’s just innocent wish fulfilment, but I’ve heard too many horror stories of fans crossing the line and idols being burned out and threatened from the excessive fan adoration that takes over their lives to just take this at surface level. Just look at the manga series Not Your Idol and season three of Aggretsuko, and those are just some of the fictional stories. It gets scary.

Maybe I’m overthinking this, but it just didn’t work for me. Maybe it has the potential to grow and find its feet, but I don’t think I will continue reading this. Kiss Him Not Me works much better in my opinion, and if you love Junko’s previous work then you might like this.

From the creator of the series, Kiss Him, Not Me, Azusa devotes most if not all of her time to her favorite idol group Prince 4 U but to be more specific, a member of the group named Chika-kun.
Unknown to her, Chika is very different from how she thinks of him as an idol. An accident on stage during a concert and Azusa attempts to save Chida and they both end up unable to escape their tragic fate. However, after being told it was a mistake and sent back to their normal lives, they quickly realize they still need each other.
I thought this was a solid first volume for a series and I’m excited to read more.

Star-Crossed! it's a classic body-switching comedy with opposites as characters. A story about a fangirl -Azusa- who attends to a concert and saves her idol -Chikashi- from dying just to find out that insted of him, now she is dead, but for some reason God allows her to comeback. Of course that this triggers the body-switching part where now Azusa is in the body of her crush and viceversa. It was a fun and light reading, Azusa didn't come across as some wacky fan and the portrayal of the conflict was really fun to read. Since it's a first volume there's still room for more development but overall I enjoyed reading Star-Crossed!

I received my copy for an honest review from NetGalley.

The premise of this manga was tropey and so while I expected a lot of what was going on I did hope that the mangaka would turn some of the tropes on their head. That still may happen later on, this issue stayed pretty close to the tropes.

The art is rather pretty and it's lighthearted and fun. I will be giving this series at least another volume but if it doesn't catch me then I may not continue it moving forward.

This is a great shojo. It really made me laugh out loud more than once. It takes a familiar plot and runs in a unique direction with it. Fun for fans of the genre.

It has all the jokes and tropes that shojo fans love but it really is it's own story. There are familiar characters that fit the genre but aren't carbon copies of other Mangas.

This was a lot of fun.
