She was sitting alone—the mysterious woman with the emerald green eyes.
Ryder had no choice but to approach her.
Their eyes locked. Words were exchanged. Feeling arose that he didn’t know he was capable of.
They left together in what was expected to be a night of passion, but the secret she was keeping would change his life forever.
Since he was a kid, Ryder’s only known the world of motorcycle clubs. After losing his father to a tragic accident, he vowed to fulfill his father’s dreams of having his own MC—the baddest that Texas has ever known. But fate might have other plans.
When Ryder’s mystery woman vanishes without a trace, he’ll encounter some of the most dangerous men he’s ever crossed paths with to get her back. But he has some dangerous men of his own to meet the challenge.
No matter what, Ryder knows one thing for sure—he’s never seen a woman as beautiful as the woman with the green eyes, and no matter the cost to himself, he’ll move heave and earth to be with her again.
Ryder's Edge by Christopher Harlan is a different type of MC book because you get to see the club when it was just a dream of its founding member.
From the moment you meet Ryder you know you are in for a good ride because there is nothing sexier than a hot, built and I mean BUILT, man on a motorcycle. What goes well with a biker is a beautiful woman and Esme fills that role. From the moment these two meet, chaos is right behind them. If you enjoy a fast-paced story that will have your engine running hot, Ryder's Edge by Christopher Harlan is for you.
WOW, what a great start to a new MC series. Ryder and Esme were so good together. The chemistry and attraction between them were so hot from the first time they laid eyes on each other. This was a fast-paced story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It was full of action, drama, suspense and heat. It will suck you in and won’t be able to put it down until it is finished. I have always like MC books and this was no exception. I can’t wait to read more of this series.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Christopher has done it once again. Ryder is not your traditional biker. The man loves to read and loves history. He uses what he learns from his family past and history to help him with his daily life. He meets Esme this sexy woman sitting in a bar all alone.
At times I liked Esme but then at times I found myself screaming at her. Thank God towards the end she smartens up. Atleast when Ryder needs her she is there. Their love blossomed quickly but sometimes that does happen. I did love that she had rules pertaining who she slept with.
This book was very well written and original. I'm lucky to be part of Christopher arc team to get this read.
I loved Ryder's story so much. His drive and passion to have his own MC is amazing. This book kept my attention the whole way through, I couldn't put it down. Another home run from Christopher Harlan. I believe he can write anything and it would be amazing!
Loving this new series All the feels Esme and Ryder grabbed my heart and squeezed Addicting intense emotional broken heart stopping twists Ready for more
This was absolutely amazing! Unlike any MC book I have ever read! (And I've read a lot).
Most of the time, when I read an MC story, the MC has already been established and I think that's what made this one so amazing. I FINALLY got to see what went in to actually creating an MC, to how the Lords of the Plains got started, and I enjoyed every minute of it.
I think one of the things I love most about the MC trope, is the alpha male tough-guy with a huge heart, who still doesn't take any crap from anyone. Who would do anything for the people they love and care about. Ryder is no different. He will go to the ends of the world for his MC brothers and for the girl he barely knows, but is falling quickly for.
This story had so many twists and turns that I didn't see coming and I loved the chemistry between Esme and Ryder. It was hot, sexy, exciting and it kept me on the edge of my seat from the very beginning. Just like all of Mr. Harlan's books had so far.
Mr. Harlan has quickly become one of my favorite authors and if you haven't read any of his books yet, you definitely should!
Holy Moly....ygis book was so dang good tha I couldn't put it down. I had to see how it all turned out. In it we fall for the biker guy hard and fast. Ryder is this down to earth yet badass that shows us if you mess with family you will get burned. Emse is the young woman who wants to find happiness but can't because she was forced into a life she did not want. When this two meet its like watching fire and ice form together and we get this big explosion. I'm hoping to have more in this one because I know for a fact it's goung ti be epic. Great work Christopher. I give it 5 stars. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book as an Advanced Reader's Copy.
Ryder! His life and his aspirations of leading his own Motorcycle Group is within his reach, he can see it but hasn’t figured out exactly how to make it happen....
Esme is in the wrong place at the right time and she’s on Ryder’s Radar. He thinks he’s helping her by getting her out a biker bar she shouldn’t be in but little does he know he’s about to find out what trouble really is!
This is the first book in the series and I have to say it was a fun read and I look forward to reading what comes next!
This is the first book in the Lords of the Plains series by Christipher Harlan and let me say it is a great ride full of twists and turns as as Ryder tries to find his place in the MC world while trying to understand his feelings for Esme. What a fast, paced novel full of great characters and storyline. If you are a fan of Christopher Harlan, you know he always seems to surprise you with his level of knowledge regardless the genre he writes about and this book is no exception! Looking forward to what comes next! Great job!
Christopher usually writes his stories in 3rd person. But surprisingly, he didn’t do that this time.... it is alternating first person, sometimes Ryder, other times Esme. And his style, and manner of telling the story is way better than it has been in the past - great to see this kind of evolution in a writer.
I don’t necessarily seek out MC romances either, but I really enjoyed this one. Raw, violent, and seemingly realistic is how I would categorize this book. Congrats on a great book!!
"What I'm about to say may sound like a cliche from a bad film, as you say, but if I wanted you dead, you'd be quite dead already."
First off, let me say, I am not a fan of MC books.. I've read a few but none kept my attention to want to read the next book in the series. Until now. I cannot WAIT until the next installment of The Lords of the Plains series!!
Let's start with Ryder. He's not the type of MC bad-boy you'd expect. He has a college degree. He loves to read. He owns his own business - a bookstore of course!. Where he is the typical biker you'd expect is in his loyalty - to his friends, his club brothers, and to those he loves. His heritage is of the utmost importance to him and I loved how he used his Comanche familial bonds to find the strength and courage to face the evils that came to pay a visit. And,when he meets Esme? Well, let's just say the big bad biker boy has met his match.
Now, let's talk about Esme. She's a spitfire, that's for sure. Sure, she was mixed up with the wrong people - the WAY wrong people, and sure, she got Ryder in some really deep and dangerous trouble with these wrong people, but she's a perfect match for him. I loved the way she had a comeback for Ryder every time he tried to push her buttons. The banter between these two is hilarious! Her backstory is heartbreaking and you see where she gets her strength and perseverance. When she loves, she loves hard, and she'll do whatever she has to in order to protect those who are important to her.
This is a great start for this new series! Another amazing book from this amazing author!!
The formation of a new MC in the basement of a bookshop with the motivation of saving a woman but mostly because the man has big dreams. It was difficult not to roll my eyes. Oh yeah, I’ll just invite established MC’s with their own revenue streams, members, experience and sign them all into my little club of what? 5 people and no money, revenue streams, networks etc and put myself on top as the leader while all the other leaders of their own clubs just nod and say, “yeah, we’re in”. Mmm.
Not only that the heroine, too stupid to live, is on the run, dumps a bag full of what I imagine is cocaine on the side of the road and then mosies back to the hotel like she hasn’t done something incredibly stupid. On top of that, knowing a guy has been pulled into her stupidity goes for a walk to be captured by the men she has been running from! Really? Apparently she has been foxy enough to get away from them but she just walks right into a trap in the middle of no where in an area supposedly unknown to the villains?
Another question that kept bothering me, how did she dump the product? We are told. She doesn’t open the package and let the wind take it, she just “dumps it” that’s how it’s described. So then why doesn’t anyone ask, where exactly, can we retrieve it, is it salvageable? Nope, all these hardened men go, “OK” let’s start a new club and go to war. So overall the author writes a well paced, interesting story but with a dumb ass for a heroine, an unrealistic starting point I just can’t continue with the series.🙃
This is the first book in Christopher Harlan’s new Lords of the Plains Series and it starts off with a great book. Ryder aka Nugget and two of his friends, the last of the Mescaleros MC, help out North by blowing up Ana’s food truck and taking out two bad guys from a Mexican Cartel. While celebrating Ryder picks up Esme, a beautiful woman who looks a little out of place at the biker bar. Instead of a night of passion, Ryder ends up reading to her from a book about a Comanche leader. After she disappears on him he and his friends are picked up by the number 2 man of the cartel and taken to the cartel leader. There he’s informed Esme stole a bag of drugs she was hired to carry and that Ryder has 1 month to pay him for the drugs and the two men he killed in the explosion. When Esme returns she confirms she was forced to be a mule to protect her parents and she dumped the drugs. This book has bikers, friends for life, kidnapping, an evil number 2 man, hot steamy scenes, action and suspense. I am so looking forward to this new series!
Wow. Ryder has a legacy behind him from his father and his MC; however once his dad was gone the MC was lost. The dust settled and the MC brothers are in the wind and no more. Being a nomad has it's benefits but he yearns for more, something bigger. Esme, a lost soul living in 2 worlds; Mexico and the US. Set up with her own trouble, deciding to make huge decisions no matter the consequences. The 2 meet in a bar but it's not what is "expected". Finding out they have trouble with the same man but can come up with a solution together, leaning on each other but on more too. The promise of a bigger, better future of the MC world, making things right for themselves at the same time. Taking a gamble with other MC's in the area, Ryder brings up that promise of being the best. The Lords of the Plains is born.
Cannot wait to see what happens next and read more about Jimmy and Darius.
Haven’t read a MC book in awhile. So while reading Ryder’s Edge, Christopher reminds me why MC’s have a part of my heart. They are truly...don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Ryder is your typical biker, yet you get to know him more as you read. Would have never thought that Christopher would have given us this type of biker, which I love. Storyline was great as he went between Ana, and Ryder’s current situation. You also got the love, sex and drugs which should be party of any MC story. I enjoyed reading this and cant wait for the next book.
First book in the Lords of the Plains and it is also the first MC Mr Harlan has written, this has a group of MC's banding together, a young Nomad, with a dream, and his friends, a beautiful woman and the Cartel. An explosive start to what I think will be a fabulous series.
I received a copy and I am voluntarily leaving my own honest opinion
Ryder’s Edge is the first book in the new Mc Series Lord of the Plains. This is Ryders story as he starts the new MC Club Lord of the Plains. I can’t wait for more!!!
We met Ryder in a previous story (North) and what we knew is he was tough and loyal. Now hear HIS story and read how he puts his mark on the world. Nugget (as Ryder is also known) will protect those he loves with his life. Esme does what she can to protect her family but definitely gets herself in deeper than even she can deal with. Leaving with Ryder is just a means to an end but little does she know that not only will there be sparks enough to set a forest on fire between the two of them, but that she will draw him into her problems making Ryder a target. Ryder has a plan for his life, now may just be the time to implement that plan and hope for the best. Suspenseful, steamy and interesting.
Just the beginning to what's to come! Esme is out of place waiting and hoping for a better outcome in her life. Ryder seems to be exactly what she needs to make that change. Ryder isn't your typical tough and rough biker guy. He know what he wants in his life but just needs a little push to ma!e that happen. Two unlikely people waiting for fate to guide them to their wants and desires in life. Even when trouble seems inevitable, these two know exactly how to make it through somehow. Can't wait for the new series Lord's of the Plain to come out!
Ryder wants to run his own MC and to be a force to be reckoned with. Then one night he decides to react to the Cartel and finds a women that he doesn’t know how to react to. Next thing he knows is his world has turned upside down. Can he get out of this tight spot with the Cartel? Can he have the woman too? Come on a harrowing ride and find out what happens.
What's a risk without a reward? When the reward is happily ever after, wouldn't you risk it? This newest story from Christopher Harlan read like foreplay. :) the story of two unlikely people racing into the firefight for their lives before they ever learn anything about each other. It began fast, tickling all the right spots of intrigue and mystery, bringing in strength and chance, before exploding all over with the needed release of a happy ending. What's not to enjoy? The characters 'relationship' begins so quickly but with all that was going on it seemed completely natural in the world the author is creating. I certainly look forward to hearing more about the other 'Lords of the Plains' MC.
Dang...what a great book! I was sucked in on page pages kept turning. Christopher writes so well, that he took me into the world of the MCs. I can’t wait to read the next book!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This story is captivating, entertaining, and intriguing! Packed with murder, mystery, drama, suspense, kidnapping, and passion continue to keep you glued to the pages of this fascinating story. This is the first book in a new series called Lords of the Plains that will keep you engaged from start to finish. Christopher Harlan manages to weave suspense and twisted plots with artfully developed main characters.
Ryder or nickname Nugget is a good guy, but a massive, tattooed, badass biker. When Ryder’s father was killed, his MC legacy of The Mescaleros was gone; however, now he and his boys are nomads, and Ryder’s goal is to lead his own MC group that will be bigger and better. When Ryder meets Esmeralda (Esme) at one of the biker’s bars, he was enamored with her and those green eyes. Esme has a mind of her own, but Ryder liked that Esme was sassy, honest, and has an open demeanor. When Ryder finds out what kind of trouble Esme is in... their problems begin!! Ryder and Esme are two people struggling to cope with a difficult past. They are also combustibly attracted to each other and trying to navigate new relationship territories. One encounter is not enough—the heart wants what the heart wants, and without giving away any spoilers, emotions get very complicated. I liked Ryder’s big heart, especially when protecting those he loves and cares about. The chemistry between Ryder and Esme grows more potent the more time they spend together—the sex if off-the-chart hot! There are so many intense elements to this story that you cannot highlight on just one. Wait until you read what happens, by whom, and why someone was kidnapped—you will be flabbergasted and appalled. The storyline is fluid, and the characters are extremely well developed. Can’t wait to read the next book.
“Ryder’s Edge” is not your typical MC book and Ryder is not your average biker. The engaging storyline captured my attention when I first began reading, and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see what would happen next. I liked the way his Comanche heritage was woven into the story. His upbringing was very important to him and it shaped him into the man he is today. Ryder has a college degree, runs his own business, is close with his brothers and is respected in the community. He wanted to unite other MC clubs and form his own so they could work together to become more powerful and fight against the evils of the world.
Ryder liked Esme from the moment he saw her in the crowded bar, and he knew that he had to go to her. He never pushed her into doing anything she didn’t want to and always respected her. In Esme’s eyes, Ryder was her hero, protector and friend. He was almost too good to be true, but she knew he would always keep her safe.
Ryder was very proud of who he was and embraced his ancestral history, which defined who he was and how he wanted to live his life. That is why “Ryder’s Edge” is not only an MC book, but it is also a story about a man who believes in who he is, and how he was guided by the men that came before him.
As I finished reading, I was moved by both the honesty and protectiveness of Ryder as well as Esme’s innocence and dedication to her family. Christopher Harlan is an intelligent and creative writer who always makes me think while I am reading and smile when I get to the end of the story. This is a strong beginning to his new series, Lords of the Plains MC.
I really liked the first book of this new MC series that Christopher Harlan has started. Ryder and Esme were great together. They met at a bar, and had a great night and she disappeared on him. She was dealing with a situation that she was put into that she never wanted. This book had love, a few laughs, the cartel, excitement, drama, and MCs! Ryder is a nomad who wants to create an MC that would be the best of them. He has ideas in mind, but just is waiting for the right time to start it. Helping Esme and bringing down the people who are treating her poorly give Ryder the advantage to get the right people together and start what he has always dreamed of. The relationship between Esme and Ryder is great, and I really hope there are more books to the series, because I have a bunch of characters I want to know more about. I also liked the tie-in to characters from other books. Do you need to have read the other books, no, but if you have you will remember what they did for Ana. A fierce start to a new series! Can't wait for more!
Oh my, what can I say? Chris has a way of writing that gets me out of my genre ruts and makes me fall in love with romance. I tend to shy away from MC and the like cause they are very overdone and all become the same blur of a story to me after a while and bore me.
So not the case here. We all joke about our “BOOK BF” but no joke I am in love with not just Ryder but Esme and the chemistry they have. I would LOOOOVE this type of relationship!
Every story Chris writes I fall in love with the characters. They are so perfectly human with flaws and all. This one is no different. They are written with such emotion and depth you can not help but become invested. But above the relationships, there is so much action, drama and oh so steamy heat. I think my favorite is when they first meet. I think I fell in love right there (spoiler) They do not have heated sex like most of your romance would have done when they get to the hotel…. They discuss a book he is reading and he READS TO HER! Please send me a man like this lol.
Ryder's Edge is the first book in the Lords of the Plains by Christopher Harlan. I would consider this a stand-alone novel as the story is complete. Ryder's Edge is a spinoff of Christopher Harlan's other books North and True North. We have one repeating character whose story truly ends in this novel but begins this new series. Ryder is the son of a deceased seasoned biker, he was raised in the lifestyle and has big dreams. On a night of celebration, he meets the beautiful Esmeralda and his life changes forever. Esmeralda is a stubborn, mysterious woman that catches the eye of the sexy biker Ryder.
This book was fast paced and had all the dirty grit you would expect in a motorcycle club series. It was action packed, sexy and a downright entertaining story. Definitely can't wait to read the rest of the series.
