Dark. Gripping. Sci-fi/Paranormal Romance.

There’s a place from my nightmares.

A place where bad things hide.

The memories kept me awake for most of my life. But it’s not what keeps me awake anymore.

It’s her.

She calls me, desperate and pleading. Like a shining star I can’t quite find. I feel those men from my nightmares coming for her. Only she can’t sense them—she can’t see.

Not the past.

Or the future…unlike me.

Until one day as I stood in a doorway in the barren wasteland in Afghanistan with my squad at my back…my star dimmed, and sputtered out.

I have two holes in my chest now. One which bears her name.

I have to find her. I pray I’m not too late. First I have to find the others, two more guys like me.

Together we seek a North Star.

One we were born half in love with.

Leading us back home.

Without ever knowing we were lost at all.

SIXTH is the enthralling 45,000 word prequel to Oleander. The reverse harem romance comes together in the next book.

I have been an avid reader for longer than I can remember, desiring the darker, edgier works of Bram Stoker, Stephen King, Dean Koontz. I first started writing in High School giving that away when my first attempt was nothing more than dribble. I wish now that I kept at it, pursued it with a hunger that I currently possess.

Writing is my passion, it is what fuels the fires inside of me and it is an all-or-nothing furnace that keeps me up at all hours.

I am married to a wonderful supportive husband, I have 2 wonderful kids and the best friends that I have waited some 35 odd years to meet.

A good solid paranormal read, with some intense moments leading to a crescendo. Can’t wait for book two to take us into the world of the reverse harem part of the series.

This is probably the hardest book I had to get into because of the back and forth of what was really happening and what Mark saw that would give him the nickname Sixth for his Sixth sense of knowing what to do in any given situation.

Once I got a feel for what was happening this proved to be very intriguing to me. I have followed Ms. Faulks for a while now because of her ability to convey feelings and emotions. This series opener is no different although it has a very sci -fi feel to it. We have met the men in Oleander's life and the first portion of book 2 Oleander shows why the have been brought together although in this story we learn more about Sixth than Tex or Shadow but I am anxious to find out more about these principal layers.

I am going to use the phrase "psychic thriller with a dash of romance" because this is what I feel about this one, if you like those types of stories than you will not be disappointed with this story.

Sixth is a good read but I did find some bits hard to follow. Sixth is a marine with pre-cog powers. The first half is setting up his story, mostly set in a warzone and the second half is his coming home to America and finding two other guys so that they can all find and rescue the girl linking them all together. The action is great, reasonably fast paced and it keeps you reading. The only thing I found difficult was when Sixth was having his visions while the action was rolling. I found it almost stilted it and as I couldn't really piece together (neither could he) exactly what he was seeing, it was a tad frustrating. The meeting of the other two guys, Tex and Shadow was good and let us see a bit of their characters. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series and finding out what it all means. As an introduction to a series, this was solid and I liked all the characters so far. The only thing I didn't really like, was the "damsel in distress" vibe, it's inferred that Oleander is powerful, yet she needs three guys to save her? She had better kick some arse in the next book! Overall a solid start, and I have a burning need to know what happens next.

Sixth is amazing read!!! Even if at time I had a hard time following along. I will admit that I got goosebumps while reading this especially when Sixth was having his visions because that was when all the action was happening. It was a little confusing and frustrated because I couldn't really piece together (neither could Sixth) it was like I could feel his frustration. I was like what is it exactly that he seeing!!! Can we also talk about that CLIFFHANGER!!!! OMG just when things were getting juicy too!!! Overall enjoyable and entertaining read with plenty of intrigue, suspense, and action to keep you engage from beginning to end. So looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I voluntarily read and review this ARC no monetary compensation was received the opinions I have expressed are my own.

This is a slow burn book and we get to see Mark aka Sixth during the years as he grows up becoming the man he is. This is a slow burn so you have to stick with it as it really does set the foundation of the story but I do hope we get to know each characters throughout the series. We see Sixth through the years as he deals with the nightmares of what he has been through and the salvation he finds while fate awaits him. We get glimpses of the others who are like him and meet them towards the end of the book and can't help but like them from the get go. I like how the story slowly reveals itself and we learn more of what they have been through and start to build a bigger picture of what happened to them all and why they are drawn together. I can not wait for the next book as I was totally hooked by then end!!

Completely Entranced by this Exciting Start to the ”One of Us” Sci-Fi series!!

We get more questions than answers here – but you are completely immersed in the characters, intrigue and resolve of this special group who have numbers on their wrists, and special powers after having been experimented on as kids.

We follow “Sixth” so named as he can see into the future and keeps his crew in Afghanistan safe by preventing disaster due to his visions of danger. He dreams of a girl with “purple hair” and ultimately returns to the US to find others who will be required to locate “purple hair”.

Brilliant start to this series which has me very excited for more!!

Sixth is the start of a great new series from Kim Faulks.

Mark aka Sixth’s story progresses through a back and forth timeline from his childhood to current day, with a constant reference for the girl with purple hair throughout the book - will he ever find her again?
When he’s old enough he makes a choice to join the Marines, which leads to him being in control of at least one thing in his life. He’ll return from service with a mission to find other men he’ll need and the purple haired girl.

This is a dark sci-fi, which is violent at times and emotions are high. Triggers warnings should be noted for this book.

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

What an interesting start to this new paranormal/science fiction series. We meet Sixth as a child and growing up as he deals with being different while everyone thinks he is crazy. At some point his parents even sent him somewhere that was awful though he cannot really remember all of the details. All he can remember is the purple hair girl that he connects with in his mind. She essentially saves his sanity without knowing so when she is in trouble he comes running gathering the others he can sense as well. I have to say that I cannot wait to see where all of this cray stuff is going as I am really curious by this point. The book is a little slow to get going as it tries to build with the background but once it gets good it is really good so I give it 4/5 stars.

Had me in it's grip from the beginning!

This book had me in it's grip from the very beginning. Mark was just a terrified boy at the start but morphed into a man willing to give all of himself to save others.
Mark was one of the many children that was taken with their parents's permission in order to try to help them. But the truth was that the government entity that had them, abused them. He has had visions of a girl with purple hair all his life. Now him and two others must try to find her in order to save her.
I am excited to read the next book to find out what happens. It stopped on a cliffhanger so I am biting at the bit to learn more!

I have a box set of the three books in this series sent to me by the author. I'd read the third book a while back so was very happy to review the entire series.

Sixth is about a young man who grows up unwanted and shunned by those around him. He joins the Marines and is shipped off to Afghanistan. After being injured, he returns home to hunt for three people who have been in his mind for as long as he can remember, and they all revolve around one of the three - Purple Hair - a young woman. In this book, Sixth, Mark, finally teams up with Tex and Shadow to search for the young woman.

Excellent book, excellent narration. And I'm really enjoying the second book as well.

Sixth is the first book in the One Of Us series. Kim Faulks has created a unique story and her characters are very well developed. Sixth (so named from the number on his wrist), the main character, is able to see the future (a result of being experimented on as a child). He has found a family (Tex & Shadow) and is trying to find Oleander (the purple haired girl he needs to help. This is an exceptionally well-written story that grabs you in the beginning and keeps you turning pages wanting to know what comes next. I highly recommend.

Wow!!!! An amazing read. I loved it because the premise was so different from most books I’ve read. This book was non stop from the first page it was fast paced and had the perfect amount of action. I can’t wait to read more about Oleander and what gifts she has and why she has such a connection with sixth , Tex and shadow. I do hope Oleander will be bad a$$ once they rescue her since she is supposed to be powerful.

This is not a typical book that I would read but something in the blurb caught my eye and I went for it. And wow.

The first book does not give much information about Mark (also known as Sixth), his brothers or Purple Hair but it does tempt you with snipets of information that makes you keep reading. It is dark and has a distinctive writing style which works very well to portray the confusion and fear.

This is a prequel story that follows Sixth. He is one of a number of children who were tested on as children and have some extraordinary powers. Sixth has had flashes of a Purple haired girl for years, and now is on a mission to find her. He finds two more guys who also have a connection. I liked that we get the guys POVs and am definitely going to pick up Oleander so I can find out what happens with Sixth, Tex, Shadow, and their Purple Hair :)

Bit of a jumbled mess topped by apostrophes used incorrectly.

The story’s a bit jumbled, seemingly because the main character (Mark) is a bit jumbled. Overall this seems like an overly-long intro to the real story.

Most frustrating of all those is the use of apostrophes where there was no need for them. Apostrophes signify possession or contractions, they do NOT make words plural.

Sixth was taken to a medical facility and tortured because of his ability to see the future. While trying to grow up and find his way into adulthood, he is also having visions of two men with abilities, Tex and Shadow, and a girl with purple hair in danger. A great start to the series. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

Wow

I fell in love with Sixth...when he was a little boy, a teenager, a young man, and a war hero. I wanted to tell him that I loved him and he was wanted. I have a feeling that his story, Tex's story, shadow's story, and her are all going to be sad. Grab a box of tissues your going to need it. Loved it!!!

What an intriguing story ! I love how this unfolds but at times it feels a little slow getting there. I also feel like I would have gotten more out of it reading rather than doing the audio - there are so many jumps in time due to sixth’s abilities that it is easy to get lost or confused. Still I’m excited to see where this will go

I was engrossed in this book. Dark and intense, it follows our MC, Mark, briefly through his "freakish" childhood then his terrifying coming of age in Afghanistan. A darker, more personal take from inside the mind of a "mutant."

Mutant super powers

Paranormal. Mutants. Super powers. Dark childhoods. Supernatural psychic bond between 4 people. Male POV. This was interesting to say the least. I'm definitely going to see where this series goes.

Not bad

I liked it. It is in sixth's pov and we get to met shadow and tex but don't really have a chance to get to know them. I'm interested enough to want to see where the next book goes.

Not for me

I'm not really into sci-fi but since it was by Faulk's I had to read it. Honestly I was bored to tears. The last few chapters picked up some. It has a good story line it's just not for me.

Gripping story

Author and editor could use some training on the difference between who’s (who is) and whose, and the proper use of commas, but the characters and story are intriguing enough to keep me reading.
