2.5⭐️

Okay I’m pissed off because I was having such a great reading month before I read this book because all of my reads were no less than 4 stars, but then this book ended up being 2.5 stars….

I really wanted to love this book because I heard it was a bodyguard romance but unfortunately this wasn’t for me. Idek where to start with this review or how to even write it up properly so beware because this is going to be all over the place.

Firstly, this book had 0 emotion. Idek how to describe it but whilst reading the book it didn’t evoke any emotions out of me, but also the characters dialogue also didn’t convey any emotions. They could be in a life threatening situation on the brink of death & the dialogue would be very bland & monotone sounding, & you wouldn’t have had any clue that these characters were close to dying moments before that. This made the book so much less enjoyable & much harder to connect with🫤

It also felt like chunks of text or dialogue was missing in between paragraphs. Sometimes I’d literally have to go back and read the previous paragraph or flip back to the previous page because I deadass thought I had skipped a few scenes because the dialogue/text felt so disconnected at times that I was sure that either my copy of the book was an unedited version with missing texts, or that I was just stupid & couldn’t comprehend what I was reading properly🥴

The book is just less than 300 pages long and the “I love you” moment happens at about page 200 so technically it doesn’t happen really early on BUT the moment felt wrong because up until that point the romance itself had been VERY instalovey, which I don’t mind if the characters actually have great chemistry & the connection feels natural, but I felt 0 chemistry or connection between the two main characters in this book. So the “I love you” moment just felt like it happened too soon because there was 0 relationship development up until that point.

I’ve also already forgotten the names of the mcs already even though I read the book like 5 days ago? I think the mmcs name was Matt??👀 idk oops. But anyway as you can tell they’re quite forgettable & I didn’t really get a good grasp on their personalities or who they were as people hence why I have nothing else to say about them…

I hate shitting on books and being mean and I’m sorry if you enjoyed this book, but sadly it just wasn’t for me and wasn’t good in my eyes😬

This book was crazy good! I am not sure what I was expecting when I picked it up, but it definitely exceeded my expectations. I have not read the first book in the Cole Brothers series, but you can bet your britches that I will be because not only was this book extremely well written, but it kept me on the edge of my seat the ENTIRE TIME!

Matt is like fine wine, you have to give him time to open up, but could you expect anything less from a formal military man with a few skeletons in his closet trying to get a new job? Ela is a party girl that loves just sailing through life without any expectations, right?! These two get along as well as water and ice but when they wake up handcuffed together, it starts something that will rock their entire worlds.

Provoke You would have been an entertaining Contemporary Romance, but the heavy dose of suspense makes this book EVEN better in my book. There is something shady going on, can Ela and Matt figure it out and then walk out of each others lives? Read the book to find out- it is totally worth it and 5 outta 5 stars in my book!

PS: A huge thank you to Diana A. Hicks and Xpresso Book Promotions for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to read and review!

This was my first read from Diana Hicks.

Provoke You in book 2 in the Cole Brother series and can stand-alone but, wow was I blown away by this book and how much it drew me in.

Hero is ex-military who takes a job as head of security for a hotelier. He meets heroine Ela and they quickly find themselves falling. The chemistry is great between the MC’s.

When a hotel heiress with a drinking problem is targeted for death, a troubled marine hired to babysit has his hands full trying to keep her safe and his heart intact.

“Shit. Dad’s going to kill me.” At twenty-four years old, I was a grown woman. And even though my parents hadn’t bothered to come home or call me in months, this kind of spectacle they would very much care about. It reflected poorly on Dad’s empire, and that was not acceptable.

Waking up with a hangover handcuffed to a sexy former Marine, Matt Cole, is an interesting beginning of a suspense-filled ride for the wreckless Eva LeBlanc, heiress to LB Industries. When her life is threatened from a bad business deal, Matt is charged with keeping her safe and alive, but who is trying to hurt her?

I didn’t need to be a genius to know that a hookup with Ela would be a mistake of epic proportions. I’d lose the head of security job at LB Industries. A job I didn’t have yet. I’d have to move again, and I didn’t want that. New Orleans had already grown on me. I wanted a life here, a home.

Eva is trouble with a capital T. He wants the head of security job at LB Industries, and didn’t sign up to babysit a spoiled rich girl, but the dangers she is facing are closer to home than they think. Will he be able to find the truth before he loses his heart?

I love Eva and Matt who are two broken people fighting so hard to protect their hearts, but it’s inevitable, especially to Matt’s very competent and funny cohorts Casey and Kitt who are taking bets on the couple’s love life.

Ms. Hicks nails it again with Book 2 of the Cole Brothers Series! The fantastic plot is fast-paced and has the reader on pins and needles to see the fate of Eva and Matt. I can’t wait to read Book 3.

Thank you to Ms. Hicks for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

Ever since her Grandmother passed away Ela has been getting attention for the wrong reasons and now she is in danger of losing the one thing that she truly values. Her Grandmother left her the hotel she owned, and she is determined to keep it more for the sentimental value then the financial value.

Matt is looking to leave his past where it belongs and getting the job as head of security for Ela’s family business is just the opportunity he was looking for. When he finds himself bound to Ela he thinks she is nothing more than an entitled princess but when they are forced to spend time together he realizes there is much more to her than first appears. What starts out as a mission to protect her from herself turns into a real threat and that is when the adventure really begins.

I am enjoying this series and looking forward to see what the future has in store for the next Cole brother.

Although this is the second in the Cole Brothers' series, you don't need to have read the first book to enjoy this one, it works well as a standalone. That said, I have read the first book and very briefly met the Cole Brothers before. This book deals with adopted brother Matt and his relationship with Ela.

Ela is the heiress to a fortune, but her stepfather doesn't think that she is ready to take over. All that she really wants is her Father's love and attention, but since the death of her Grandmother everything seems to have changed and in a failed attempted to get his notice, she has spiralled into a self-destructive path. In recent years, Ela has finally sorted herself out, but it seems that it's not really what her father wants. When he sells the hotel that she loves out from under her feet, then she knows that she needs to do something.

There's quite a lot going on in this story with action and suspense abound. It also has it's lighter moments, Ela first knowingly meets Matt when she wakes up from a bender handcuffed to him. I thought this balance of action and fun worked well together as did Matt and Ela as a couple. There are hints of the other stories to come in the series, but nothing that means that you have to read any of the others or that they even have to be read in order.

Provoke You is a fun and exciting romance which delivers on lots of levels. I'm looking forward to finding out what else the Cole Brothers' series has in store for us.

Loved it! As the second book in the Cole Brothers series, I wasn't sure how I'd do without having read the first book {with that major hottie Derek on the cover} but I did just fine. While certainly linked and probably better read in order, Provoke You stood on its own just fine. It was my kind of book too. Not only a smokin' hot romance but loads of suspense and intrigue, all set in that city full of history and mystery, NOLA. Snark, suspense, and sex abound, all without being extraneous - it served a purpose in the story. Would I read it again? You bet I would along with the rest of the series! So if you too like Romance, Suspense, Intrigue, Snark and some good, hot sex, Provoke You will be right up your alley!

5❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

This author is new for me so Provoke You was a first and I’m so pleased I decided to take the plunge. This novel was terrific. I was immediately drawn into the story’s mind blowing intrigue and the suspense and twists that follow are intense.
Ella and Matt encounter unknown dangers while discovering they have a chemistry that can’t be denied.
Wonderful writing and terrific dialogue, and the characters Ella and Matt were great. I can’t wait for more Cole Brothers stories.
I highly this recommend this excellent book!

Courage takes center stage as two strangers risk more than just their hearts to get to a happy ending. Provoke You pulls readers head first into heartstopping suspense. Hicks is a beast when it comes to crafting a puzzle that grabs attention while pulling at emotions. Ela and Matt battle life, love and the unknown with a chemistry that is all consuming and willpower that will make the heart stand up and cheer. Smart and sexy are a good look for what is shaping up to be a sizzling series.

Oh, how I love this series! This seems to be the tag line for all my reviews for Diana Hicks’ books. All is justified when you have an amazing author, that brings the readers great characters and a suspenseful plot.

In „Provoke You” we have another Cole brother – Matt. He meets Ela LeBlanc in ... less than honorable circumstances (for her) and somehow ends up accepting her step-father’s offer to see her to Paris, in exchange for a job as head of security for the LeBlanc empire. Little did he expect to get tangled into a family affair that puts Ela’s life in danger multiple times. Things are not always what they seem and the two needs to join forces to find answers.

Both characters are amazingly well built, each with his or her baggage to carry. Matt learns to see past Ela’s Intagram profile and he likes what he finds. She, on the other hand seems to give him only trouble, until she understands that only with his protection she can defend what is hers. Their relationship builds reasonably fast and I like that Matt keeps his professional attitude until he no longer considers necessary (though I wonder what would have happened if the outcome was different...). I’m being vague, but you’ll understand what I mean after reading the story.

Honorable mention for Kitt and Chase. They are a delight! So strong, yet full of crazy ideas.

Alcohol addiction is present in many forms. Ela is fighting her dependence at every step, until one good reason comes along. Matt has his own demons and seeing Ela drunk brings back memories he wants to keep locked and fears he is not yet willing to face. The author underlines, with her story, that everyone needs to find strength and reasons to move forward. Together, we can do it :)

I may see one glitch in the perfect book that „provoke You” is: Matt’s past comes back to haunt him, but I cannot seem to find the conclusion of this story. Maybe we will find out at some point in the series, but for now it doesn’t make much sense to me. Still, this is not a good reason to decrease my rating.

Let’s conclude, shall we? A great plot, great characters with interesting backstories and an amazing writing. I am loving this series so far! Book 3 will be out January 13th and I cannot wait to share my thoughts with you guys J So hurry up and catch up with the series until then.

Rating 3.5/5

Well I definitely felt more of a connection with this book than the first book in the series. I was looking forward to getting to know Matt better because he had an air of mystery about him in Unravel You but I did worry that I would still feel that I had missed out on some of the story like I did with the first book.

Thankfully I didn’t get that at all, in fact I got very easily engrossed in this story and loved all the action that went on. It had a lot more going on than I would have predicted and since the storyline lay outside of the romance it made it even more enjoyable.

The chemistry between Ela and Matt was great, I mean I’m not a fan of insta love but since I was kind of expecting it and because the rest of the story was good I could overlook it but I did like that they had a bit of build-up. They had some back and forth when Matt was playing bodyguard that really helped with building the chemistry and of course the fact that they find themselves in such high tension situations means that you can easily see them getting together.

I really was trying to puzzle out why Ela was in danger and was pleasantly surprised by the cause of it all. It was a clever build-up and kept me turning the pages, which is perfect for a weekend read when you’re all snuggled up indoors.

I liked Ela she was an interesting character, she has faults but she fights for her family even when people don’t believe she will amount to much. I even liked that Matt wasn’t infallible, that he was so focused on the job or how things had affected him that he lost sight on some of the more important things.

Provoke You is definitely an improvement from the first book in the series and it has gotten me so excited for the next installment.

This was such a great follow-up to Unravel You and we got glimpses of what was going on in the first book but this made everything super clear and had me hooked!

I thought Ela was such a great character as it was clear that she had made a lot of mistakes in the past but once she knew what she needed to do she worked hard at figuring out what was going on. She found the strength she needed to get through everything but also knew she couldn’t go about it alone.

I really liked Matt up until a certain moment that he screwed up big time but other than that one teeny (not so teeny) mistake I really did like him. He was humorous and realized that someone really seemed to be after Ela and he needed to know why.

I kind of thought I might know who was behind it all and why right from the beginning but there were definitely aspects that I didn’t guess. I wasn’t surprised at all with how far Andre was willing to go and I am glad that Matt took the threat seriously.

There was a certain huge moment in the book and I was freaking out for the safety of Ela. I was so mad at Matt at this point especially when he knew everything that was going on with Andre and why he never believed Ela. I was so mad and worried!! I was so proud of Ela for doing what she needed to!

I loved Old Ben and everything that he did for Ela and how he really came through for Ela when he was able to!!

The end was so good and I was so happy for how everything went and I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

Ela is a young woman who has a complicated relationship with her stepfather, as he pretty much tears her down quite a bit which leads to shooting herself in the foot by drinking, which makes him worse towards her, and it's become a vicious cycle. Now they're at odds, because step-daddy dearest decided to sell the hotel which Ela's Grans gave to her if she ever wanted it, and Ela loves it completely. Matt Cole came to NOLA to get a fresh start, so he could put his life back together, and finds himself handcuffed to a hotel heiress, who's family company is the place he's trying to get a job at. Little does he know that those handcuffs would be a premonition of things to come, as his first task becomes keeping an eye on Ela, who is basically being banished so her inheritance can be sold. They have crazy chemistry, which she's always trying to stir it up, and he's having a super hard time trying to keep her at arm's length. If only that was their only problem. See, Ela is in some big danger, and now Matt has to actually protect her, instead of continuing to be basically a glorified babysitter, he's now got to keep them alive. It makes for some f-bomb worthy twists to get mine dropping loudly. Provoke You started out a tad slow for me, but once it hit it's stride, I couldn't turn the pages quickly enough. So, how does it all pan out?! Well, get to one clicking to find out! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Another great book from Diana. I absolutely love her writing. This one is about Ela and Matt. Ela is what some would call a spoiled brat. She is the heir to a large fortune. But her true love is the one thing that she wants the hotel that her grandmother left her the Baroness. But her father has other plans for her. One night she decides to go out and have some fun. She ends up hand cuffed to Matt who is in town to get a job as head of security having an interview with her father.
Things change when Ela needs to leave town. Matt is guaranteed the job if he takes her to Paris and protects her a little while. But things don't work out that way. Because they soon learn that her life is in danger. Matt and Ela end up going to a safe house where feelings get out of control between them. Will they figure out what is going on ? Will Matt be able to keep her safe? Will these two have a happy ever after? I absolutely loved the chemistry between these two. You can easily see that there is something between them. A great storyline and great characters. I enjoyed this one and want more from the Cole brothers.

Provoke you was gifted to me in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

* Content warnings: violence, death, alcohol abuse, sexual scenes and strong language *

This is part of a series but can be read as a standalone which I really love in romance series. Provoke you is a dual perspective novel between our two main characters. Right from the beginning of this story we see that our main characters have an undeniable connection but Matt is determined to just do his job and keep Ela safe, but Ela has different ideas.

This is not just a regular romance novel and has a hint of a mystery when Matt and Ela's life are put in danger. With many twist, turns and very steamy sex scenes I really enjoyed my read of Provoke you.

Both of our characters are flawed and have many struggles within themselves but I really enjoyed watching them grow and learn to face their fears and open up to one another.

Good Book

This is part of a series and should be read after Derek & Valentina’s book as I made the mistake of reading Wesley & Ana’s book first and Matt & Ela are already together in that book.
This is a good story and I loved Matt & Ella’s chemistry, they are so good together.
The story is about someone trying to kill her to get her out of the way of collecting her inheritance.
Matt was the Head of Security hired by Jennifer her Dad’s assistant and we learn who is after her and how many times they attack them.
Matt does make a massive error and leaves her alone only to be kept prisoner.
I also loved Chase & Kitt they were great characters.
Good story and next up is Tyler so will see what his story brings.

I really enjoyed Provoke You, by Diana A. Hicks. This book captured my attention and interest right away. Hicks wastes no time introducing seductive characters and a suspenseful plot.

What I loved: fast paced action, characters with depth, loads of dialogue and sparring between Matt and Ela

What I liked: nice balance of romantic tension/build up, alternating POV

What it lacked: a little explanation in some places, descriptive plot detail

Overall, a sexy, fun can't-put-down kind of read that will have you swooning and rooting for Matt and Ela. Can't wait to read the next book in the series!

I'll be honest and say I wasn't blown away because I felt like this story had still room to grow and I wanted "more" to happen when the bad guy(s) was discovered. But despite that it was an enjoyable read.

I liked the banter between Matt and Ela who was a firecracker. I loved the way he was fighting his feeling but at the end just couldn't resist her.

Now comes the dreaded wait to see how the next Cole brother loses his heart over a feisty woman.

Family is everything ❤️🥮 🗺💙

There’s a lot of drama and adventure on this book. Matt and Ela meet for the first time, and are handcuffed to each other hours later. This is just one of the hair raising antics that happen to them.

This is a story of family and greed and deciding which is more important. They make some mistakes along the way, and I rad mad at Matt for walking away, but they redeemed themselves and found an HEA. It’s a good read.

This book was interesting at times and boring at others. It took Matt and Ela forever to get together. I knew what was up when it was said that everything was to be in Ela's hand at twenty-five. I knew Andre would do anything to stay in control. Ela's mother is a sorry excuse for a mother, money hungry too. All in all it was a good book.

New Orleans

How can you not like a story that is based in New Orleans! This book had a lot of action and a little bit of mystery as well as being a romance. I am going to look for the books that may have some of the characters from this one in it.

Matt Cole came to NOLA looking for a fresh start and a new job, what he finds is getting himself handcuffed to the heiress whose company he is trying to land a job at. When things don't seem to be quite right between Ela and her father Matt steps in to protect Ela and help her find out who is targeting her with ill intent. Despite Ela's love of her family Matt thinks something fishy is going on with her stepfather. As things become more dangerous they also become more heated between Matt and Ela.

This is a fun Romance, I love the Cole brothers and their close knit relationships. Even though Matt wasn't born a Cole he is as much a Cole as any of the others. Really fun read

Provoke me is a fabulous suspense filled read that will pull you in from the very start. I couldn't put this one down. I love Matt. He just has this way about him that you will love so much. Then there is Ela, she is far too trusting yet strong at the same time. After everything that Ela goes through she is one tough cookie. Matt and Ela just have this chemistry that you can feel from the very start. I love how much Matt tries to protect Ela and teaches her to fight back. All I have to say is hang on and enjoy the ride where Ela and Matt are concerned.

Cole Brothers book 2.. Can be read as a standalone.

I loved this book , so much fun to read and had no idea what was going to happen next.

Matt lost his parents at a young age and he went to live with the Cole family. He couldn't have asked for a better family to raise him but something has always been missing for him. When he comes to New Orleans to apply for a job he never expected Ela to be part of the detail. Working for LeBlanc Industries as head of security is almost a dream come true until he realizes that someone is out to kill Ela and he will do anything to protect her

This is the 2nd book in this awesome series and is Matt and Ela’s story. Ela is a hotel heiress and former marine Matt finds himself as her bodyguard. These two are like petrol and a match, but when Ela is in danger Matt will go to any lengths in order to protect her. This is a wonderful story which is filled with danger, suspense, fun, and love. I was totally hooked throughout this addictive page turner, and highly recommend for all.

With the second book of the series the momentum doesn’t diminish. Matt a former Marine turn the bodyguard is all deliciousness and he is tasked to guard a hotel heiress. Ela doesn’t want a bodyguard and they get along like oil and water. When Ela is it in real danger Matt goes to great lengths to protect her. from a love-hate relationship blossoms true love in the midst of a dangerous situation. I can’t wait to see the next Cole brother fall!
