Amy Ressler was a vivacious, outgoing person, looking forward to her first job after graduating college. Until the night her stepbrother slaughtered her entire family, and thought she was dead, too. For ten years she’d been living under an assumed name in a house in Tampa with security guards and a security system. Her agoraphobia keeps her a prisoner in the house where she designs sought after video games.

I liked the characters flaws and how they each helped each other as well the internal and external conflict of every character. Well rounded and fully developed characterization and a great plot.
Amy has been through a lot in her young life. Almost killed by her step-brother, she was given a new identity as they buried her old identity in an empty casket, for her protection. Fortunately for her, the attorney in charge of the estate was a friend of her mother's and has helped her find a level of security. Amy designs video games and is quite successful, but she also doesn't leave her home.
Quinn was a SEAL medically discharged, now facing the challenge of what to do with his life now that he's not military. He still had nightmares of the incident that caused his injuries and took the lives of two of his team. Tex and Melody have opened their home to him, giving him a place to 'get his head together' and not be totally alone.
If anyone gets that it's Tex. It's quite the coincidence that Amy has communicated with Tex on the dark web. She frequently finds answers to coding problems she's having there. Tex has become a friend and Melody has chatted with her as well. With the new game she's developing she has questions about SEALs and while Tex could answer them, he thinks Quinn would be the perfect person to do so.
As this online relationship develops so do concerns for Amy's safety. Quinn suspects that the job he's been asked to consider is actually protecting the woman he knows as KitCat.
Suspenseful, Intriguing, and Romantic with just the right amount of sizzle.
I will start that this is a new author for me. While the storyline was fine, I found it too short and not enough character development for me. Loved hearing about Tex again as he is a favourite of mine. A bit anticlimatic for the ending. would have prefered a longer book with the personalities of the main characters especially Quinns to be beefed out better. A good read.
Tex and Melody have a truly incredible gift and with it they helped Quinn and Amy and then let Quinn take over with Amy. With patience, kindness, and love she let him in. So in helping Amy, they both healed, fell in love and became a team.
So I am loving this series so far. This book kept me turning the pages and I really enjoyed the characters. It was engaging and fast paced. I’m ready for the next one!
She started to shake but forced herself to keep moving. She could do this. Imagine witnessing your whole family being murdered, and being scared to death.
Protecting Amy: Special Forces: Operation Alpha is by Desiree Holt. This book is really good and it is about agoraphobia. This is something we don’t think about and that is hard to understand. It is good that someone brought it to people’s attention even through a romance book. Amy Ressler had just finished college and was home waiting to take her first job. She was so excited. Then, she was awakened one night by screams. When she went downstairs to investigate, she found her step-brother had killed her mother and his father. He then proceeded to stab her. Matthew then ran from the house. Amy managed to get to the cellphone on the table and dialed for help. Fortunately, they were able to save Amy. For her safety, the law enforcement officers and her lawyer put it out that she had died too and the family funeral was for four. Amy moved to Florida where she was able to create video games at home and since then has been unable to go outside, even on her own porch. When the landscapers and housecleaner come to work, a security guard also comes. She is terrified that Matthew will get out of prison and come after her. Her only communication is via the internet. Here she met Tex who has helped her with computer questions as she works. He was a SEAL, so she has picked his brain to create the SEALS for her video game, Call for SEALS. Tex hooks her up with his friend, Quinn Mollory. Quinn has been medically discharged from the SEALS and hasn’t made the adjustment to real life. Tex thinks that having Quinn help Amy will help Quinn and Amy both deal with their problems. He just hopes it doesn’t make things worse. The book is really good and is easy to read. Will Amy let Quinn help her?
Tex and Melody Keegan insist that Quinn McCoy come and visit them. He has been medically released from the SEALs and is trying to figure out what to do. His leg has been injured and his is wallowing in a bit of uncertainty. It could have been worse. He saw and a lot in his 18 years and lost friends and now he doesn't know what to do with his life, it has no purpose.
Tex has been talking to a woman online who he senses needs help but she isn't saying from what. He helps her with code questions as she is a video game designer who has locked herself away in a fortress in Tampa. She witnessed her stepbrother kill her entire family and try to kill her as well. For all intents and purpose she was dead to the world. She had to be.
She and Quinn start talking and building a connection for a few weeks online. He is offered a job as her bodyguard but she is more than a job to him.
They are both good for each other and he helps her to heal some of the emotional scars she suffers from that night 10 years ago. There story is full of love and hope. She is a survivor and she is stronger than she knows. Quinn is sexy and patient and he loves her when he had pretty much given up on the idea of love.
This was a fast read, full of action and some angst. The ending was less action packed than I expected. But all in all it was a well written story and it was fun to see Tex and Melody again. I will look for other stories by this author.
After graduating college, Amy was looking forward to a new life..little did she know it would be because of her step brother. One night she hears screaming that awakens her. She rushes to where it is coming from not knowing she was about to see her step brother kill their whole family.. She gets badly stabbed but survives. To save her life it was said that she had died, so she could change her name and move far away from it all. And that is how her new life began. For 10 years she has become a prisoner in her own house. She designs video games online and never leaves her home..ever. She has extreme security measures to help her feel safe while her step brother is alive in prison. She begins a friendship with a guy online who helps her with game codes. Tex and his wife Melody, have been through some horrors themselves so they dont ask personal questions. Amy is only known as Kitcat. After awhile of conversations Tex wants to help Kitcat with what ever she is going through..from their chats, he feels it was something horrible. He has a fellow Seal friend staying with them who is having nightmares about an incident he went through and agrees to chat online with kitcat at Tex and Melodys request. This is where the real story begins. I love the strong yet volnurable characters in this story. Im not going to tell you anymore because things take a turn ......
I LOVED this book, Amy and Quinn are just so perfect for each other and we get plenty of Tex and Melody too, so always a win! There was the perfect combination of depravity, danger, intrigue and clever plot twist (didn't see that one coming), paired with plenty of action and the sweet romance that is forming as Amy tentatively reclaims her life and you have a hit! This book slots perfectly into Susan Stoker's World and is available on Kindle Unlimited.
Wow. I was so excited going into this book and I wasn't disappointed at all. It was addictive, sad, exciting, page turning. Amy, not her real name, was involved in a really tragic event where the other three members of her family were brutally murdered by her stepbrother. 10 years later she is somewhere with a new name and everyone that comes finger Hosur is centred and vetted again by her lawyer, who was a friend of her mom's and the security company that sorts all her security out. Quinn is an injured Seal who is staying with Tex and melody. He befriends Amy and takes the job as her in house security. Until the unthinkable happens, Matthew her stepbrother escapes his prison with the help of someone they didn't think of. This had my heart going as we saw the dialogue from Matthew and the helper and how scared Amy was. I had to devour it in one go to find out what happens. A fast paced read because you won't want to put it down.
Protecting Amy: Fantastic writing! I loved the characters, the suspense and romance! Wonderful story with a lot of emotions! I could not put it down it was so good!
Amy is terrified to leave her home after witnessing her family's death which she supposedly died from also. Quinn can't get pass the nightmares that haunt him from his last mission that also left him injured. Amy met Tex online when she needed help with coding. Quinn is staying with Tex and Melody while he recovers. Matthew has spent 10 years in prison waiting for the perfect time to escape. He has stayed in contact with the one person he could trust. He now knows Amy is still alive. Will Amy let Quinn into her life? Will Matthew come looking for her? This is my absolute favorite that Desiree Holt has written and she has amazing stories.
Protecting Amy is a fantastic contemporary romance by Desiree Holt. This is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. Ms. Holt has given readers a well-written book and furnished it with fabulous characters. Amy hasn't left her house for 10 years. After her stepbrother murdered her family she's been agoraphobic and supports herself designing video games. Quinn left the SEALs after an injury. Quinn and Amy's story is packed with drama, humor, sexy bits, action and suspense. The only way I could have loved this book more is if it was longer. I look forward to reading more from Desiree Holt in the future. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
This book is about a family that was murdered by another family member. It was an ok book to read with a few good parts here and there. The story was good and believable with some interesting things that kept me wondering who was helping the killer. You will like this book if you like romance novels with a bit of sex and murder. I have it three stars because O felt it needed more suspense added and toward the end of the book I the story just ended. There should have been more twists and turns keeping the story alive more . It was a good book and I loved how Quinn was so protective of Amy.
I love Susan stoker's books, so, as this book uses Susan's Tex (hacker, tracker, information specialist extraordinaire), I just had to give it a try.
I like the characters though Amy seems to be a mash-up of two of Susan stoker's heroines (Elizabeth the agoraphobic from Shelter for Elizabeth and Harley the video game coder from Rescuing Harley). The story is good and kept my interested. The ending is a little anti-climactic and is over quickly and with little fuss.
Overall it is a really good compliment to Susan Stoker's series and I will be reading more from this author.
Amy had a horrifying night when her family was killed and she was left and thought dead as well. That was 10 yrs ago and they gave her a new name and moved across country. But she's never been able to leave the house and has been terrified every since and has nightmares. She meets Tex online to help with the coding of her video games and that's how she meets Quinn a former Navy Seal. It really doesn't get exciting till the end. HEA.
Quinn actually met Any online. They met when Amy needed information on Seals. She had been writing a video game and met Tex online and he introduced her to Quinn. Quinn was offered a job in Florida. After months of talking he found out that she was the client in Florida. So he quickly got to her. They both were already in love from being on line each other.
Great story. Great characters. Love this book! Whenever you pick up a book from Ms. Holt you are guaranteed a story filled with action adventure and romance that you won't want to put down!
Great set-up... interesting characters, good build-up of plot and anticipation.
So... why only 2 stars? Right... I liked it. And that is it... I just liked it. Felt that, although it was short, the finale was almost rushed over... big build up with very little suspense in the end. Sighs.
Full of love and adventure.Enjoyed this story very much, how a person can override being frightened all the time...Loved Quinn..they both helped each other..thank you Desiree.
