The Carriage House Capers #1

Lucky and the Falling Felon

Rate this book
**Lucky Boucher never has to go looking for trouble. Trouble finds her just fine all on its own.**

What do a dead guy, a stolen pig, and night vision goggles have in common?

In this case, me.

Hi, I’m Annabelle Boucher, but everyone calls me Lucky. Despite my nickname, I’m a magnet for trouble. I can get myself into more jams and pickles than ants at a picnic. My most recent predicament involves being nearly killed by a dead body then finding a note that implicates me in the murder. My only option is to find the killer and clear my name. Fortunately, I have the help of a surly ex FBI agent, a 102-year-old mobster that looks like Mrs. Claus, and my wacky menagerie of rescue animals.

Many of my stories begin with me doing something “inadvisable” and end with me catching a criminal. This one is no different. But you’ll soon learn that, with me, the middle is where things always get interesting.

I'm a writer, mostly of awesomely fun mysteries that no one should take too seriously. I imagine that I should probably say something deep and profound about myself or my life philosophy, but I'd much rather fling facts like cool ninja throwing stars.

FACT:  I'm a devoted if slightly neurotic wife, an indefatigable lover of animals, and an absolute fanatic of all things funny.

FACT:  I'm probably alarmingly similar to Lucky, minus the daredevil streak and the unbreakable parts, and I'm convinced that I have the best job in the history of the world.

FACT:  I'm such a homebody that seeing me out in the wild is something like spotting Sasquatch, only with less hair and less fanfare.

FACT:  I'm a nerd and a Southerner, and my preferred wardrobe consists of pants that stretch and a t-shirt with writing on it.

FACT:  I smile at everyone, hate to cook but love to eat, and occasionally get confused by the face I see in the mirror.  Wasn't I twenty-four just, like, yesterday?

FACT:  I think life is hard some days, and the best way through is, well, through. Might as well do it with a happy heart and a grateful soul, amiright?

This book kept me so entertained!! I read through it so fast because it has all the amazing elements to keep you glued to the pages!!
Lucky is truly one of my most favorite characters.. she is witty, fun, personable, relatable, and has a heart of gold!! And then there is the fact that she is just plain LUCKY!!
Her best friend is the best at complimenting her.. straight forward and funny also.. perfect combination..
And then we have Liam.. I can’t wait to see if something sparks between him and Lucky..
Lucky sure does have a way of “landing” in to some messes but she has a sharp mind and funny personality that drives this book...
I loved every moment and can’t wait for more!!

Fast paced and fun

This story starts in high gear, and never really lets up. The storyline/murder mystery wasn’t the drawcard here, it was the bonkers characters like Lucky, her BFF Regina, Liam, Miss Haddy, Mrs S., and Lucky’s quirky menagerie. They were such distinct characters, the interactions between Regina and Lucky were fun read, although Liam is a jerk with potential.

Pretty short at less than 200 pages, but it packed a lot in there, so I’ll be back to try book 2.

This book was described to me as a ‘cozy mystery’ and I would have to agree with that 100%.

This was a fun and entertaining read right from the beginning. I laughed throughout the whole book, but was also kept guessing as to “Who Did It?”

This story doesn’t have a lot of the extra drama we see in books. It truly focused on the mystery of the storyline. I will say this about the book…it isn’t a romantic suspense story. I don’t want people to pick this book up thinking there is a love story built in. There really isn’t.

This is the first book by Emmy Scott that I have read. Lucky and the Fallen Felon is the first book in her Carriage House Capers Series. I believe this series is all going to focus on Lucky and her unlucky situations. But each book will be solved and completed by the end of the story. This book isn’t very long so it won’t take but a couple hours to read.

As I said this book is about Annabelle Boucher….AKA Lucky Boucher. She is a product tester and loves to take risks. That’s why her boss gives her the dangerous products to test and report on. In this book her product are night time googles she has to wear why skydiving. Yep you heard me….she is skydiving at night….if that wasn’t dangerous enough add in something falling from the sky during the jump and almost taking Lucky out while she was falling. Little did Lucky know that what fell from the sky was a dead body. Now Lucky is determined to figure out who killed this person and why they were killed. Does it have to do with Lucky herself?? Was someone sending her a message?? What happens when others try to block her search?? Can Lucky figure this mystery out before finding herself in any more trouble?? Read this fun story to find out.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good who dun it!! This book was fun and entertaining with great characters and a storyline that will keep you trying to figure things out.

I cannot put into words just how much I loved this book and how fun it was and how it was exactly the book I needed at the time. This book is just pure fun from beginning to end. And it’s the perfect book to sit down with and breeze through in a few short hours. It’s a quick read, but addictive and a great escape from the real world. Lucky and her antics are an absolute riot and you just cannot help but love her. She always seems to find herself in the middle of trouble and she’s always caught up in something ridiculous and it just makes for such a good time. She has such a big heart and especially for animals and I loved that about her. When trouble finds Lucky again she is determined to solve the case and won’t let anything get in her way… not even grumpy former FBI agents named Liam. And speaking of Liam, I loved him too. He is grumpy and cranky but that makes him play off Lucky so well. These two working together made for some great banter and fun times. Lucky And The Falling Felon is just a flat out great read and one that doesn’t take itself too seriously, but still delivers an engaging and addictive plot with great characters and I seriously hope I get to check in with Lucky again in the future.

This book was so fun. I couldn't stop laughing. Lucky was a corky, over the top, klutzy pet lover. If you are looking for just a fun mystery read then this book is it. All the side characters where fun. And Lucky is just so Lucky you can't help but love her and laugh at all her shenanigans. I'm looking forward to the other books in this series.

If you like Hallmark and Lifetime original movies...

Then you will love this series.

It's too sappy and fixated on a blossoming relationship rather than solving a mystery for me. It's the usual clumsy-adorable-silly girl fixes the mysterious-handsome-grumpy man thing.

Well written and funny at times but not my genre.

Full of stereotypes. If you are looking for a book that is mostly one Southern stereotype after another strung together into a story, then this is the book for you.

The author is so busy with her stereotypes (that she clearly thinks are hilarious but aren't) that she can't be bothered to describe the MC till almost the very end. She also can't be bothered to clue the reader in about the MC and her past. She had to leave home. Seven people may want her dead. Her mother was involved in something shady and dark. So dark that it makes her obsessed with death and murders. These are all things that would help the reader connect with the MC if we were told them. We aren't. So I wound up feeling like I didn't know the MC and that made me not care about her.

The MC and her friend are so immature that they use descriptive words for others instead of their names. You know, as if they were in elementary school. The MC claims that this habit started in high school. I think high schoolers are more mature than this. It's rude, arrogant, and so many other negative things that you can't be bothered to use their names.

Gah.

I rolled my eyes so many times in this book that I was afraid I was going to give myself a migraine.

The MC skydives and OFC she winds up face planting into a pile of cow manure. Every single pratfall that you can think of happens to this character. Every. Single. One. NOBODY is this clumsy and idiotic. NOBODY.

She just has to solve the mystery because she loves puzzles and can't help herself. Right. She evidently is so irresistible to men that they lust after even when she dresses like a slob and smells like an outhouse. Uh. Huh. This bit actually made me dislike her even more.

I liked her adopted mother and grandmother. I also liked the two elderly "godmothers".

I didn't like Annabelle "Lucky". I didn't like her BFF, Regina (Hello? Girl code?). I didn't like her potential love interest, Liam.

Yeah, this book is a hard pass for me.

2-stars because I finished it. I kept hoping that it would get better. I do so love a book set in the South. It didn't get better. I just got more annoyed at it.

Such a laugh out loud read

I loved this totally unexpected style of writing but still excellently written story of “lucky”. I just cannot envision meeting such a person in real life! Real laugh out loud moments and she truly does get herself into some interesting situations. Loved it

Laugh out loud funny

This is a fantastic book. I’m very into sarcasm, snark and humor with my murder mysteries and this was perfect! Lucky was perfect and all of the other characters were too. It’s a fun read and you don’t want to miss it!

Product testing shouldn’t put your life in danger…..or could it? For Lucky Boucher – the trouble that seems to lurk around every corner just came barreling through the sky. While on a product testing run, Lucky finds herself skydiving right into the body of a dead man. Where did this unlucky duck come from? Why is he in the middle of nowhere?

With so many questions surrounding the mysterious circumstances that Lucky landed in the middle of, it’s no wonder the amateur detective is determined to uncover answers. There are secrets surrounding this debacle that might place Lucky in the middle of a case that is sure to bring trouble knocking at her door. In spite of all the quirkiness, Lucky has quite the expertise in solving crimes. After all – Annabelle Boucher earned the name ‘Lucky’ for a reason. Let’s hope that her luck doesn’t run out before this crime is solved.

Lucky and the Falling Felon is the first book in the Carriage House Capers by Emmy Grace. It is full of sarcasm and hilarious antics that kept me entertained throughout the book. With a menagerie of animals incorporated in the daily antics of our heroine, there is no wonder the chaos of this wannabe detective will keep you laughing while the current mystery unravels. Who knew fumbling through the chaos of solving a mystery could be so entertaining? Let Lucky guide you through the unsolved mystery that will show you why Annabelle earned the nickname ‘Lucky’!!

She’s just a girl, trying to solve a murder. Lucky is a true crime fanatic with a penchant for stumbling into trouble. Just another normal night for Lucky hangin with a pig, standing next to a dead body, and having her hair blown out by high voltage current. She’s not one to shy away from trouble in fact she runs towards it.
Lucky lives in a small Cajun town community where everybody knows everybody’s business.
With a nickname like Lucky it’s funny to image her klutzy tendencies and penchant for trouble.
Lucky is an amateur detective who routinely watched Matlock murder show on television as a kid.

Overall:
The sarcasm just rolls off the tongue of Lucky’s mouth. I never expected this type of writing flare from Emmy Grace. I had a permanent smile on my face from reading this book. Emmy Grace even got a chuckle or two out of me.
Lucky’s shenanigans had me laughing so hard I almost snorted.

You’d think hiding a secret in this town would be impossible somehow Lucky proved that some secrets are easy to reveal if you do the investigative work.

Humorous soft murder mystery with animals, shenanigans, and wannabe detectives. This is a story appropriate for all ages. It’s a fun and easy read.

Calamity Jane meets Stephanie Plum

A good read. A klutzy but extremely lucky Lucky is a product tester. She's just about tested everything and with her luck should come out of her most recent test alive. Maybe not in one piece but still can't have everything. Her product is night vision skydiving goggles. But her skydive is interrupted by something hitting her and then finding a pig and a dead body. Now her curiosity is aroused (she's more curious then a cat). With her BFF and surely former FBI (nicely packaged) she resolves to unravel the mystery. Break-ins, another animal to add to her collection, shady dealings and being trapped in a hell hole toilet as well as testing more products and meeting the 'godmother' of her new community. Can she fumble her way to the solution and will her luck hold at the end?
Great characters that you will view as friends quickly and a plot that will keep you entertained and chuckling whilst you try to sort out what is going on.

I really loved this book it's funny and entertaining each time the character got herself into a hot mess situation you couldn't help but laugh! You can visualize the scene in your head which made it that more amusing and I would start laughing all over again!!!
It also has a good mystery about it and it will capture your attention you won't be able to tear yourself away as you turn the pages faster and faster to figure out what's going on and who is behind it!!! You will fall in love with characters and can even relate to them.. Lucky who seems to get herself into troublesome situations a lot .. her adorable animal friends.. and then there's Liam (Mr. Hottie!!!) I loved watching the interaction between Lucky and Liam they make a great team!
Seriously this is the best book I've read this year and I can't wait to find out what other shenanigans Lucky gets into!!!!

I love cozy mysteries and this one is a good start to a new series. Lucky is the perfect heroine. She's quirky but not annoying. Lucky and her animals are hilarious! In some of the first books in cozies series' I've read, the mystery takes a back seat to the introduction of secondary characters, and/or potential romantic interests. That is not the case with this book. The author does a good job world-building for future books while keeping the reader engaged in the current mystery. I definitely recommend this to my fellow cozy mystery lovers.

Cute, funny, mystery!

I loved this book about Lucky, a woman who has great luck while also being clumsy and getting herself into bad situations. The characters are all great and I really liked the small town feel of the book. It starts with Lucky finding a dead body and takes her on an adventure trying to figure out what happened to the victim. I liked that even though it’s a mystery, it has a lot of humor and warmth in the book and even a little romance. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series and find out what happens next to Lucky and all her friends.

Omg I loved this book sooooo hard!!! It was hilarious, so much that I had to read off portions to my hubby (the imaginary camera part was one of them!). This mystery is just the kind I like... I loved Lucky's character... reminds me so much of myself in ways. Oh, Liam... sigh. I can foresee sooo much happening in the future with him and Lucky. Each of the characters was unique especially Haddy... oh my!! It would be a hoot to meet someone like her.

Definitely read this!! I highly recommend it. And I CANNOT wait to read the next books in this series!!

Excellent humorous cozy mystery

I was so impressed with this fun southern cozy mystery. Lucky is well...lucky though she sometimes finds the craziest ways to get to from point A to point B. The author has an excellent sense of humor with tons of imagination. I couldn't find a single thing I didn't like in this book. I'm off now to read the next book in the series. I highly recommend this book to those who like a unique plot and backstory.
