❤️❤️❤️❤️ Adorable, funny and a perfect Christmas read!
You meet the man of your dreams.....sparkling blue eyes, dark hair and a smile that lights up the frigid winter air......the problem is ..he hates journalists...and you are one!
What's a girl to do?? When a gorgeous stranger knocks Isobel off her feet ( literally) and she ends up in the gutter covered in snow and almost plowed over by a bus-she finds herself gazing into his big blue eyes and wondering if she should yell at him, hit him or hug him. Rendered speechless she does none of that and fails to get his name.
Fast forward less than 24 hours later and Isobel runs into her mystery man again. Is this kismet or just a coincidence? What Isobel doesn't realize is that everyone except her seems to know this mystery man and she is not the only one swooning over his movie star looks. Tom Bracken is the star of his own television show, in fact he even has his own action figure!
I loved, loved, loved this book! What made it even better is that the entire story takes place a week before Christmas, hence the title. All the characters in this book are so likable that I really started rooting for them to hit it off. Isobel loves all things Christmas and Tom shared that love for the holiday also. Except their busy lives have them going in all different directions. Is there a chance for romance for these two or are they just too different? Will their careers tear them apart before they even get started?
This truly was a Christmas rom-com if I ever read one. Very atmospheric with ice skating, mulled wine, dancing to Christmas carols and even a visit to Santa! Reading this book was like taking that first sip of hot chocolate on a cold day, or smelling freshly baked Christmas cookies! It was completely yummy and satisfying.
Throw in the com with that rom and it had me rolling...Tom and Isobel heard "a Sheldon-esque knocking at the door" OMG I literally laughed out loud! Isobel...Isobel...Isobel........Belinda Missen has done it again...always turning out a fantastic, entertaining read! Now excuse me while I dig out my Christmas decorations as I now feel very festive!

Fa la la la la fabulously festive, 179 pages of holiday bliss! This delightful story completely transported me to London the week before Christmas. Ice-skating, mulled wine, Santa Claus, Christmas caroling, and romance. Isabell and Tom have their meet cute when he literally falls into her lap. They have instant chemistry, but don’t exchange names. The next day Isabell finds herself in Tom’s office to interview him. This must be fate, the problem though is Isabell will be returning to Australia in less than a week. Not to mention Tom is a rising actor with a hate for journalists, and Isabell is? You guessed it... a journalist. So will Isabell and Tom be able to look past these obstacles and find their holiday HEA?
This book was just so sweet and so much fun to read. Both Isabell and Tom as well as all the secondary characters were just so darn likable, I love spending time with them. London was the perfect backdrop to this Christmas romance, I just loved the setting. I just finished another Christmas book set in London a few days ago and now I truly feel as though I’ve been there for Christmas (much cheaper than a plane ticket). This really is the perfect book to get you in that Christmas spirit, short and sweet with a lovely ending.

⤐ Overall.
Me throughout the entire book:
In all seriousnesses, this book was just what I needed to get into the mood to eat the first Lebkuchen of the season. I suddenly had this urge to hop on the next train to rural Europe to roam the alleys of hidden and rustic winter markets while sipping on a glass of Glühwein and munching on some yummy treats. I have nothing bad to say about this piece of happiness. For some, the plot of One Week 'Til Christmas might be predictable. I, too, guessed the course of the plot early on, however it didn't manage to make this a less enjoyable experience. I'm even bold enough to say it's exactly this predictability that makes for the cosiest reads.
Although this short standalone lives up to many stereotypes, it is refreshingly different in its details. I think what I most loved about this book is the male MC. In his softness and shy yet kind demeanour, he offers a welcomed change to the stereotypical male love interest. (Not that I don't love me some cocky boys, but you get the idea.) Tom is fun to be around and very respectful, but still has some mischief in him to make it a joy to watch the two of them have a wonderful time.

If this isn't a statement that sucks you in, nothing is. Isobel and Tom did not expect to fall on top of each other in front of a bus, much less did they expect fate to bring them together a second time, presenting them with the meet cute of a lifetime and everything that goes with it.

This book is for you if… you need something small and cute to hit off the festive/wintery season. Short and enchanting, this book, although predictive for some, offers many moments to laugh out loud and snuggle deeper into the blankets.

One Week ‘Til Christmas by Belinda Missen is a quickie holiday contemporary romance that takes place in the days leading up to Christmas. With the short amount of time frame for this novella length book readers are of course going to find a case of insta-love involved in case that bothers anyone.
Isobel Bennett is a travel journalist who is used to being on the go and never quite sure where she will end up. Based out of Australia where Christmas falls during the hot months of summer Isobel jumps on the opportunity to head to London and enjoy a good old fashioned snowy holiday when a story opportunity opens up.
When arriving overseas Isobel finds herself on a slippery street waiting for a bus when a man slides into her. Before she knows it though the handsome stranger is gone without finding out who he is but when their paths cross again both can’t deny their attraction.
One Week ‘Til Christmas is the type of read that is just perfect to pick up if you want a quick dose of festive spirit. The characters are sort of opposite attracting and the relationship is of course at a quick pace with the looming deadline of Isobel returning home. There wasn’t too much angst in the story but what was there was predictable but overall I’d rate this one at 3 1/2 stars for a nice holiday read.

I came across this book kind of accidentally when I was on NetGalley's site and cover / blurb caught my attention. And thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins, they were so generous to given this ebook to me.
This book was short but it was so sweet. I liked how Tom & Isobel's relationship grow. Story went on kind of slow pace but I really enjoyed it just the way it is because it didn't felt like everything happened too fast and this left me quite satisfied. I just have a little bit issue about the ending but still I generally liked this story.

It looks like this has been changed to “an unforgettable winter romance” but still. Why even do that? You know the old saying about opinions, right? Reading is 100% opinions and reviewers like me are nothing but assholes, so using words like “perfect” right in the dang title are just sure to spurn disappointment. (I’d argue that this one was pretty forgettable too.)
I don’t particularly enjoy the “celebrity falls in love with commoner” trope or the “we can’t be together because we only have seven days” (even though it’s not the dark ages and people can communicate nearly like they are in the same room nowadays thanks to technology) so there was slim to no chance I would enjoy this one. Add in trips to the most cliché of all tourist traps for a week, cardboard cutouts for characters and super cringe worthy dialogue such as . . . .
‘I’d love a bag of pfeffernüsse.’ I smiled. ‘Who’s a goose?’ ‘You’re a goose.’
That’s a fail for me. My friends really enjoyed this one, so we’ll just chalk it up to either wrongreading (most likely the case) or that I actually dove into the Christmas romance pool headfirst this year and sadly We Met In December simply couldn’t compete with the others for me.

Being a hardcore fan who gobbles up all her beautiful rom coms, I surely deserve a Christmas present from Belinda Missen. And . . . voila . . . here it is . . . a magical Christmas romance set in the wintry London. It's beautiful, funny, romantic and so, what can I say, Christmaseque!
Beginning with an accident, fate has thrust Isobel into the arms of a popular actor and they have seven days to check whether the chemistry between them is for the long run or not. As you can expect this is a bumpy ride, considering the fact that they are from two sides of the world -- Australia and England. How can it work? Surely we need a Santa with his magic powder.
While reading I was more invested in the way Missen constructs a Christmas side of London than the romance bit. Every page seems to provide a visual travelogue and for someone who has never been to London, this was a total treat. Ice-skating, mulled wine, Christmas market . . . well, festivities are in the air. This is a story that will wrap and encase you completely in a real but magical world and just like the sweet dreams in the mornings, you will never want it to end. Highly recommended!

This is a beautiful holiday novel. It is apt for light reading during the festive season. I loved the sweet and cute story of Isobel and Tom.
It all starts when Isobel is on the way to her friend's home and is waiting for the number 11 bus when a man quite literally falls into her lap. Snow is falling, Christmas lights are twinkling, and a gorgeous man with dark brown hair has just slipped on ice and is now literally on Isobel. This story is a must-read for people who are in complete awe with Christmas. There is snow, Christmas decorations, winter-themed market and places, Winter wonderland, mulled wine, presents, Santa and everything that makes us think about Christmas. All in all, it was a beautiful experience reading this perfect book at this time of year.

This is a relatively short read but definitely a good one to read as we head into the coldest months of the year.
The story is set as it states in the title, in the one week in the run up to Christmas. In a way it was lovely for Isobel to literally bump into someone she is very much attracted to. As she isn’t going to be in the UK for long though, I did fear whether there could be any real happy ending for her and Tom.
Isobel and Tom are lovely characters whose blossoming relationship grabs the readers attention. You can’t help but get caught up in the festive spirit and the romance. I read the book in two sittings as I was desperate to know how things were going to end. If you want to know whether Tom and Isobel get their happy ever after, well you will have to read it for yourself.
One Week ‘Til Christmas is guaranteed to get you in the festive mood. What I really enjoyed is that the romance isn’t over the top. It’s believable and has you feeling that warm glow that only a book in this genre can do. A fab, fun and festive read with an added bit of sparkle.

Most of my articles are written in pyjamas while I snack on a bag of jelly snakes and bemoan the fact I’m out of wine and too lazy to walk the block and a half necessary to procure another bottle,’ I added. ‘I’m surprised I don’t own seven cats and have bird’s-nest hair.
‘… my mother dressed my older sister and me in identical outfits. I remember once, my hair was braided so tightly I suspect it was also my first foray into cosmetic surgery.’ It was also the same year my sister ripped the head off my new Barbie doll, about three minutes after I’d unwrapped the box. She liked it more than the one she’d received. She wanted it. I didn’t give it up without a fight. Hence, Decapitation Barbie became a thing. We superglued her head back on, but she was a little stiff after that.
I felt my throat close and my words wobble around like a drunk on a trampoline.
Considering how bloody sardonic and deadpan you are most of the time, it becomes really noticeable when all he has to do is orbit somewhere in your direction and you light up like a Griswold Christmas.
My Review:
A handsome man had Isobel in a puddle on first sight, no not like that, an actual puddle with water. Tom had accidentally knocked her into the gutter but he was gloriously handsome, and she was so stunned she couldn’t even complain about being wet or within inches of being run over by a bus. Wow, talk about making a brain searing first impression. This was a slow burn and sweet four-star romance with top-shelf five-star humor as well as an off the beaten path London travelogue. I am itching to dust off my passport for the butter grog alone, I Googled it. The pleasantly entertaining storylines were light, easy to follow, and featured a sweet romance peppered with clever levity, interesting characters, witty banter, career angst, and a taste of family drama. I adore Belinda Missen and covet her quick wit and comedic wordplay.

A handsome man had Isobel in a puddle on first sight, no not like that, an actual puddle with water. Tom had accidentally knocked her into the gutter but he was gloriously handsome, and she was so stunned she couldn’t even complain about being wet or within inches of being run over by a bus. For readers looking for a warm, cozy Christmas romance oozing with charm, this book may be the perfect choice. When Tom and Is literally collide on the street, little did they know that there would be sparks flying. The only trouble is that there’s only a week left before Christmas and Is’ departure from London.
I think there’s a strong demand for books like this, but sadly it wasn’t for me. Way too cerebral and vanilla for my taste. I need more emotional depth and a strong antagonist, both of which this story lacked. The writing flowed well. Just too much dialogue that never seemed to go anywhere.

One Week ‘Til Christmas was cozy, lighthearted and heartwarming romantic comedy with Christmassy feel. The book was about passion, dream, workplace relationship, love friendship, trust, and Christmas luck.
This was my second Belinda Missen book. Writing was charming. It was first person narrative in Isobel’s charming voice. Characters were interesting, setting was magical, filled with festivity and romance was sweet.
It started with Isobel, a travel writer, landing in London for her one week holiday, excited for her favorite festival in favorite country where her best friend lived. But on very first day she fell with her ass in gutter. Moreover, her boss insisted her to take interview of a famous person. A work during holidays! Now you will think that’s not so good and all excitement might have went down in gutter… Nope! The person she was asked to interview was the one because of whom she was in gutter, a handsome tally star, who fell into her lap on that (un)lucky day, who left her daydreaming. There was a spark and instant attraction. This forced work meeting turned to many lovely romantic meetings. I had a feeling her one week till Christmas in London was going to be fun but what after that? Is there just attraction or more? Will she let herself fall for person whom she was going to leave after a week?
Isobel was fun, smart and friendly person. She loved her job and her passion for travelling and her love for Christmas was contagious. She was wonderful throughout the book. Her thoughts and feelings were realistic. I could understand her situation with her family and I adored her for loving them even after their unfair treatment.
Tom was a TV star. As much eye pleasing he was outside, he was equally beautiful inside. Even though he was popular, he didn’t have a speck of ego. He was even cool with Isobel who never watched his show, in fact she didn’t even know who he was until her boss sent her details. What more do you need to know! He was true gentleman and I loved him for that.
What I loved most the setting and romance. It was magical. Their sightseeing and meetings were so beautiful, Christmas market, shopping Centre, food and cafes left me wanting to pack my suitcase and leave to spend Christmas in London.
I loved Isobel and Tom’s relationship. They were similar in many things and they feel connected ever since their second meeting. There was a spark in first meeting but that spark grew into friendship, adoration and love, a love so deep they will follow each other anywhere. It all happened in less than 200 pages and still didn’t feel rushed. At first it did have insta-love feel but author did give characters enough time to know each other better. I enjoyed conversation between these two. Their views towards their life and dream, their family issue because of their work and why they choose the particular profession, it was all so realistic and inspiring.
The theme of following dream, take steps to make those dreams real no matter how tough it can be to balance work and family was brilliant. The workplace relationship issue was presented nicely through that horrible boss.
As soon as I got to know little about characters I kind of knew where this will head and how it will end. But that turn at climax was good, not exactly what I expected. And then that proposal, it was so beautiful and heart melting. End and epilogue was lovely, beautiful and I feel so good after reading this book.
Overall, it was packed with magical setting, developed characters, and lovely Christmas feel. If you love one of the character falling for celebrity arc, just go for this.

She does a favor for her boss to interview a rising star Tom Bracken, only to discover he's the man from the day before who mowed her over! They quickly hit it off but she only has a week left until she flies home. They decide to make the most of it and enjoy her first Christmas in London.
Well if this wasn't the cutest romcom I've read in a while. The whole thing reads like a movie you watch on a rainy day in December with the fire going while enjoying a cup of hot tea (or cocoa). It was sweet and cute and funny with characters that you enjoy reading about. Isobel and Tom's meet cute was perfect and their chemistry is off the charts adorable. I loved these two together and separately. Their banter is so simple and yet, it works so well. They hit it off instantly and the reader is whisked off on this delightful adventure where the two of them get to know each other and grow closer. It's probably the most PG (maybe PG-13) romcom I've read in a while but it worked with the tone of this story. The Christmas-y places they go throughout London are so well described that it makes you want to go as well. The author definitely had a clear vision of what she wanted and knows her genre. It's a shorter read so it will leave you wanting more It's low on the angsty front, which is perfect for those looking for something light. This book is delightful from beginning to end.

What a simply charming and festive romance, from the first meeting between Isobel and Tom, which is rather memorable, to them meeting again and learning each others names, to just how they have spent a week in London.
If you are wanting a guided tour through some of London's best love festive occasions and events then this is certainly worth a read. As a Londoner I loved seeing the touristy side to my city, and was delighted to even note that the tube journeys and time to cross London underground, were pretty much spot on, which just adds to the authenticity of the setting.
I loved the interactions between Isobel and Tom the whole time, and found myself whizzing through the pages eager to spend more and more time with our leads.
An incredibly charming novella that had me smiling, giggling, despairing at times and hopeful for the HEA that I was craving. This is only the second book I've read by this author and its clear how much her writing and story development has improved, as I loved every second of this book.

This is my first book by this author and I enjoyed her writing and the rhythm of the narrative.
Having found my HEA in a long-distance relationship, it bothered me a little that the heroine was always focusing on the difficulties and never ready to give love a real chance.
Apart from that, it was a sweet read and I particularly enjoyed the places they visited and how the author managed to take me there with them.

I am not a huge fan of the trope where someone falls for a celebrity; but the winsome voice, surprising sense of humour and well crafted setting trumped that. Last year before setting off to London Christmas markets I picked up a Christmas set book that I hoped would get me in the mood for my trip. What I found instead was a read that had all the immersive charm of a copy and pasted wikipedia entry. I mention this because the starring character of the book is London— so magically so. It is very obvious Missen is enchanted by her setting and it blazes through brilliantly on every page. So while the romance runs a little quick ( but tis the season for the eighty Hallmark films I watch so I cannot complain) and while I was a little underwhelmed by the major conflict that threatens to separate Isobel and Tom, this book’s immersive and resplendent sense of place makes it a thoroughly enjoyable Christmas confection.
Also, when you get to it, Isobel’s sister Miriam is basically the worst human ever. “ If you don’t come home for Christmas you are dead to me”. That makes for a fun holiday.

In this book we follow Isobel. a travel writer who is in London for a week on her holiday. While waiting for a bus she accidentally gets knocked over by one of the most gorgeous men she has ever seen however she leaves before getting the chance to take his name and number. The next day she is asked by her boss to conduct an interview of a famous actor - it's him! They have one week before Isobel has to leave, are they meant to be?
Ok so this book started off great, little bit coincidental how its the same guy but hey its a cute romance so I will let that slide. I was loving the cute banter between the two characters and enjoying how they slowly started to get to know each other. However it then started to go downhill, I think roundabout day 4 or 5 of them knowing each other they are discussing moving in together? That to me was a major red flag, like you barely know each other, calm down!
I liked reading about the cute christmas dates and the magical lights etc. it was definitely a romantic atmosphere and did make me feel all warm and cuddly so if you are looking for something like that then this is the book for you. However the closer the two characters got the more I couldn't get into it, I'm all for love at first sight and whatnot but at no point did either of the characters decide they wanted to slow down. It was like the author said "well they have one week, throw everything in". I would have been happy with everything else in the book just not how fast their relationship progressed.
The ending was pretty predicable however it is a fluffy romance so you knew exactly where it was going, it was still cute to read but ultimately left me just feeling ok with the story. I didn't love it, I didn't hate it. It was light and fluffy, don't think too deeply and you will enjoy it. For me though (as a non romance lover) I just didn't like how fast everything went, keep it to casual dating and cute christmassy romance locations and I'm yours, talking about moving in together and meeting family members after knowing each other for less than a week...yeah no sorry

If, like me, you enjoy fanfiction as well as original fiction, you're going to recognise a lot of things about this story, because it's basically a Famous Actor/Mary-Sue OC (original character) Meet-Cute. Tom is a Famous Englishman who could be Tom Hiddleston (definitely my first pick for the role) or maybe Benedict Cumberbatch or Kit Harington or Richard Madden, and Isobel, the story's first person narrator, is very much a blank slate for the reader to project themselves onto. There's almost no physical description of her at all - I think 'tawny hair' is mentioned once and that's it. So honestly if you've ever wished someone to write a story featuring yourself and your favourite hot British actor, this is as close as you're going to get. It's fluffy, delightful, and stuffed more full of Christmas spirit than a brandy plum pudding.
And yet. Buried in amongst the wish fulfillment of being romanced by a star and the twee charm of a London Christmas, there's some powerful messages we could all take to heart. Yes, Isobel is living what for many of us would be a dream job as a travel writer, but she's honest about the less than glamorous aspects of her job. She has friends in every corner of the globe but dreams of greater purpose, of being able to pick her own assignments, and in the course of the story makes a decision to take a chance and chase her dream. Her romance with Tom is something of a fairy tale… but there are powerful messages there too, about compromises and family, about how sometimes you have to put yourself first or live forever with might-have-beens.
Does this read absolutely like a script for a British-set Hallmark Christmas movie? Absolutely. Did I love every fluffy, fan-fiction-y wish-fulfilling page? Darn right I did, and so will you. Five stars.

Quick, we only have one week and it's Christmas.
Isobel, an Australian travel journalist, is about to spend the week leading up to Christmas in London, and while she's waiting for a bus, a man slips on the ice and falls in her lap. The next day, she gets a last-minute assignment to interview an actor called Tom Bracken, who she knows nothing about, and you guessed it - it's the slippery man (haha). One thing leads to another and they find themselves enjoying pre-Christmas London activities together and getting to know each other before Isobel has to go back to Australia for Christmas.
I liked the atmosphere of London during a festive period but I didn't love the story itself. The characters were ok, although it was a bit annoying to read about how Isobel let her boss treat her (horribly, he was a jerk), but there was some character growth in this aspect during the course of the book.
Tom was maybe a little bit bland and although the point of the book was that they only had a week together so things would be sped up, the development of the relationship didn't feel very natural so I wasn't able to fully root for them and feel satisfied with the ending. It didn't help that the book had only 179 pages - it might have been better to make it a standard-length novel if you already have only one week to develop a connection between two characters.
Overall, it was a cute Christmas romance and a quick read but I probably won't feel like re-reading it in the future.

Do you know that feeling when you reach ‘the end’ but desperately want the book to go on? That’s exactly the feeling I experienced with “One Week Til Christmas”. It’s such a feel-good read, I’m sure it’ll leave me with a blissful smile for days.
For me, this novel has got it all: totally swoon-worthy hero (one of those with real emotions and a soft heart AND the perfect looks); a heroine who’s intelligent, charismatic, authentic and not afraid to take matters into her own hands; a funny meet-cute; witty banter; a gorgeous wintry setting (London); Christmas vibes galore… If you’re looking for a modern rom-com that could totally be a movie, that has you immersed in the emotional undercurrent and cheering for the main characters, then this is it.
OWTC is the first book by the author that I’ve read and I’ll certainly be checking out more of her work.
For me, this novel has got it all: totally swoon-worthy hero (one of those with real emotions and a soft heart AND the perfect looks); a heroine who’s intelligent, charismatic, authentic and not afraid to take matters into her own hands; a funny meet-cute; witty banter; a gorgeous wintry setting (London); Christmas vibes galore… If you’re looking for a modern rom-com that could totally be a movie, that has you immersed in the emotional undercurrent and cheering for the main characters, then this is it.
OWTC is the first book by the author that I’ve read and I’ll certainly be checking out more of her work.

The rush is on and I'm behind on meeting my 2020 Reading Challenge. Been reading more than writing reviews -- so short and sweet will have to do.
A very cute meet-greet when a travel writer is "knocked on her backside into the gutter" by a tall, dark and handsome stranger. They go their separate ways without even exchanging names. Surprise! The next day Mr. Tall, Dark and Handsome shows up to be interviewed by none other than Isobel. There's chemistry (some good - some not so good), but that all works itself out and there's only one problem left to deal with at the end of the week -- will Tom and Isobel make a long-term connection.
Very festive week in London with vivid imagery of streets all a glow, red bows and twinkling lights, ice skaters, shoppers, and the likes, shared beautifully by Missen, along with two wonderful characters who have the week before Christmas together before one is on her way back to Australia. Isobel and Tom make the best of the week by partaking in all the holiday festivities. They share a love for the Christmas season and all the merry and bright that each day brings.
A short and sweet holiday treat! A little too short for much depth -- but it was nice while it lasted.

This was an entertaining, wintery read, sprinkled with festive fun, witty dialogue and a cute romance.
Isobel’s not-so-meet-cute with the actor Tom sparks a London Christmas adventure, in which they try to experience as much festive fun as possible. From ice skating to drinking mulled wine at Christmas markets, the novel creates a cosy, twinkling atmosphere. Despite the formulaic structure of the plot, it didn’t feel too repetitive.
I felt that the characters had individual personalities and drives, which helped me invest in the novel. The dialogue was not merely used as evidence of chemistry, but enabled the characters to learn about one another and share their own beliefs. This made their dynamic more natural and believable because it wasn’t solely focused on romantic language.
The third act break up was rushed, as if it was included only to enable a dramatic reunion between the two characters. I felt that it could have been missed entirely or given more nuance and development.
Overall, this was pretty entertaining and definitely helped my festive mood.

Fun summary. Short, sweet, and snappy for sure. A delightful read. Hence the stars.
The characters - Isobel is sweet, funny, smart, and sassy for sure. Tom is the perfect gentleman, fuck he's so perfect, I almost cried when the novel ended, like why can't I have him? And why can't guys be like this around me? Am I always destined for jerks? Maybe. But anyway those two were so adorable. Estelle was the coolest for sure, would have craved having a best friend like her. Overall, they are a marvelous bunch, hence the stars.
The romance -Pretty sweet, mostly slowburn. But yeah I loved how they didn't go and have sex already, they actually learned to use their words to learn more about each other and walked to places to get new experiences, I truly treasured those moments. SO it's really mostly sweet romance, rather than the sexy type. The stars are fully given here.
The problems - Well they do manage to solve the main problem of staying or going, and not without much drama (god knows how much I hate drama...) so yeah loved the problem solving. The ending is nice as well. So pretty good of a novel this was. All 5 stars given here.
Overall, a high, high recommend.

4.5 stars, rounded up ... because it's the Christmas season, and I'm feeling sentimental. :)
If someone were to take all of the things I love most about contemporary romances ... meet cutes, celebrity romances, destination travelogs where two people just enjoy finding the heart of locations ... throw in some Aussie and/or Brit locations/characters, and then wrap it all up in a Christmas bow, this story would be what came out in the end. This is a cute little Christmas novella that doesn't try to be too much more than that. There isn't a lot of depth within its pages, even though there are some small themes involving the struggles of connecting with family during the holidays or the fear of jumping into a new career path on your own. Because it is a novella there isn't a lot of time to dig too deeply into these characters, but considering that it takes place during the course of about a week it makes sense that we wouldn't really get to see much of the deeper stuff. It really does flow the way a week long whirlwind of a romance might play out ... lots of giddy highs and awkwardness thrown together with the sort of feelings you get when you just click with someone. It was lovely.
Of course, this book also had a couple of things that I REALLY hate in contemporary romances ... a misunderstanding born through one person's decision to withhold vital info followed by a blowup where accusations are thrown around, people are thrown out, and lines of communication are completely cut off. Why do people profess deeper feelings for someone, only to throw them under the bus as soon as they suspect ulterior motivations? Couldn't you at least take two seconds to ASK someone the facts before accusing them of evil and kicking them to the curb? I get that celebrities probably have a whole other level of anxiety when it comes to dealing with non-celebrities, but it still bugs me in these stories. Still, luckily in this book the tension only lasts a small moment, and it does lead to a lovely resolution in the end.
I wouldn't really say that this book has a Happily Ever After ending, but it does have the hope of one in the future. As a side note ... I almost docked a point for this book simply for the "The perfect holiday romance this Christmas" addition to the title. Why do this? Let the story speak for itself. Not a fan of the secondary title addition, but, like I say ... it's Christmas, and I'm in a forgiving mood. I did enjoy this a lot because it is the sort of contemporary Christmas romance I look for at this time of year. Five stars!

"What an wonderful book. A total delight from the very begining to the end...."
Thank you netgalley and HQ digital for approving this book. This one is my first Belinda Missen book and I have to say that I completely loved it! The cover attracted me first and after reading the unique blurb I simply couldn't wait to read this one.
Tom and Isobel's story is unique and a breathe of fresh air. Everything from their unorthodox first encounter to their week long love affair was like fairytale encounter. It was like it was meant to be. I loved spending time with these two reading their story and watching them fall in love slowly during their week long hiatus. I was holding my breath wondering if they would get their HEA. Well I don't wanna spoil the fun. But I can say that the fans of Sophie Kinsella,Lucy Diamond and Lindsay Kelk are gonna love this sweet christmas love story. I loved it and highly recommend it!
