This is a self help book for those suffering from Anxiety, and it includes both journaling exercises and prompts, as well as several related quotes from many famous authors and their publications. Such as quotes from 'Beloved' by Toni Morrison and 'With Love' by Jane Goodall for example.
The author's purpose for writing this book was to provide a useful tool for anxiety relief. She believes, as many do, that following a journal plan can help people turn their anxious thoughts into empowering beliefs. Her journaling exercises are designed to help generate a "new story" for yourself and a new set of possibilities. I was concerned at the very beginning of the author's "introduction". She spoke briefly about anxiety related to political landscapes and social economics and I was worried this was turning into a political monologue. Fortunately, it was over by the second page. Although, I would prefer that it wasn't included at all.
Additionally, I wish she had talked about Anxiety more in the terms, as it is, of a real illness that is diagnosed by doctors. I felt torn that she seemed to be over generalizing anxiety in the introduction, so it sounded like typical anxiety everyone experiences, therefore minimizing the diagnosed illness, Anxiety. When she speaks of her own experience of Anxiety, I can't tell if she is meaning "in general" or if she was diagnosed with a mental illness of Anxiety. I feel that is an important distinction to make in a self-help book.
Overall, I think whether or not you would utilize this book is based on individual preference and whether or not you like self-help books. I personally don't prefer many self-help books. I would have a hard time doing these exercises alone. I think they would be more effective if someone were to do them and then discuss them further with a trusted friend, parents, or therapist, or it could be especially effective in a group therapy setting. However, it is not for me to say what is the best way for anyone when fighting their Anxiety. I'm sure some will find this to be very therapeutic to write down what they are thinking and feeling. If that works for you, then I'm happy you have found an outlet and I hope you will continue with that process and this book may be a good way for you to do that!
The book is illustrated in lovely colors and bright picture designs for every quote.

This insightful journal encourages me to creatively reflect and recharge myself from living this life full of uncertainties. At the same time, the colourful quotes deeply inspires. Generally, this book challenges me to explore my anxious thoughts and feelings, alleviating stress through these prompts :
- What color does your stress feel like? - List or draw three things that always make you laugh and feel at ease. - Instead of telling yourself you should be somewhere else, identify why where you are is enough. - Choose three things you wish you could change about your life. What is the light and dark of each one? - Write a letter to your past self, identifying the ways you’ve grown and moved through obstacles, fears, and anxieties. Include why you are proud of yourself for choosing to keep going.
💭 Once in a few days, I would take my time to just sit, with a cup of warm drinks & fill in the pages mindfully. It really helps me to dispose many of my anxious thoughts. Thus, I highly recommend you, especially if you are either clinically diagnosed or just feeling anxious, to get this journal.
❤️ Major love to @putrifariza @times.reads for sending me this review copy! It's available in all major bookstores.
Create Your Own Calm is a really beautiful book, both externally and internally. I definitely feel like it’s one of the few times when you are permitted to judge a book buy it’s cover, because you’d definitely want to choose this one!
The book begins with an introduction from Meera which I felt was a nice personal touch. It feels like she is speaking to you directly and she discusses anxiety in a very informative and easy to follow way. She makes you feel immediately less alone and discusses her own anxiety. Positivity really shines through and it definitely provides feelings of hope and comfort.
There are lovely quotes scattered throughout the pages and gorgeous illustrations that really add to the book. The leaves on the cover provide a feeling of calm and tranquility and are really only the tip of the iceberg. The images inside the pages with their colours and vibrancy are truly wonderful. Learning that Meera is a self-taught artist makes them even more special, it’s definitely clear that she has put so much time into the curation of Create Your Own Calm!
There are lots of exercises to complete to help ease and relieve anxiety. They can take as little or as long a time as you want them to. They are also a really mixed bag – some are writing based and others are drawing based. There are even some that involve simply circling options. Having the ability to mix things up and also having choices is really useful. Depending on your mood, or level of anxiety, you can pick something that you need to think about or something which is a bit easier, like the circling.
It’s nice to have the freedom to pick and choose which exercises to complete depending on your mood. Not having to follow a linear structure meant I could just open the book on a page and have a see if the exercise was something I felt would be beneficial to me on that day. If it wasn’t then I’d just simply find something else.
I really recommend Meera’s book to anyone, even if you don’t think you particularly suffer from anxiety. I think this year has been especially testing on us all. Coronavirus, lockdown’s, being apart from loved ones… All these things have taken their toll in different ways and I think anxiety is probably much more prevalent than it was at the start of 2020. This is a really nice way to redirect your thoughts, unwind your mind and take a few moments to yourself.
We all experience anxiety at some point in our lives. Different events can triggers reactions we hadn’t expected. Seven years ago I was having my own battle with my health causing much stress and anxiety and I decided to print out positive quotes and affix them in a notebook. I also wrote down words of wisdom from friends and loved ones. I took this book with me to all my medical appointments and feel like it helped during a difficult period. All these years later and I still suffer with bouts of anxiety. It has been proven that writing down your thoughts, feelings and concerns can help and to have a journal like Meera Lee Patel’s ‘Create Your Own Calm’ is the perfect aid to taking the first steps to taking control of your anxiety.
This is the first time I have encountered Meera Lee Patel’s artwork and I have to admit that I have fallen in love with the soothing tones of muted water coloured quotes and illustrations. If I was browsing the shelves for a journal I would be drawn to this calming cover with it’s simplistic, tonal words.
After spending a good hour exploring this journal for the first time I can see myself already purchasing and gifting many to friends and family. There are many wonderful points that I love about this journal:
it’s small (slightly less than A5) and lightweight being a paperback and would easily fit in your bag the quality of the paper used is substantial and as a guess I would say about 120 gsm it is filled with beautiful water coloured quotes and illustrations that are very pleasing to the eye it’s clear and informative has plenty of activities for you to complete in your own time and in any order (I have completed a few already) it is a journal you can treasure and look back on in times of need. This journal is beautiful with it’s aesthetically pleasing images and fonts but it is also a tool of kindness for yourself. Take some time out, even if it is just 5 minutes, to read a quote or focus on an activity. I am definitely going to continue with this journal and will keep it close to hand at all times for opportune moments to reflect and refocus.
As 2021 approaches I am planning in my goals that I would like to achieve. Journaling to reduce my anxiety is something I am trying to make something i do daily to really help me and this gorgeous journal landed at exactly the right time.
It is beautifully illustrated with prompts that have you searching deep within for the answers. Examples:- list three ways you are hard on yourself, how can you support yourself, what colour does your stress feel like, what colour does your calm feel like.
The book is full of powerful and meaningful quotes and it's a self help book I feel honoured to now own and look forward to working through it on my journey in 2021. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
3⭐️Was not super in depth, but a good reflection guide I did everyday. I added stickers and lots of colors and doodles to express my feelings to make up for the lack up prompts, but overall a good journal guide!
I absolutely loved having the opportunity to use this journal. For several years I have struggled with depression, however for the last year or two I have started to struggle with severe anxiety. I am beginning to learn how to manage my anxiety, however this is really ineffective. So when I had the opportunity to use this journal I jumped on it. I try to use the journal at the end of every day, however if I feel myself getting anxious I use it then also. This book is absolutely beautiful throughout it has the opportunity for reflection and also beautifully written quotes. From the first day of using it I have found myself feeling a lot less anxious, and having a better mindset. Even my boyfriend has mentioned this to me saying that for the past two weeks he has seen my mentality completely change. This is my first reflection journal I have managed to use every day and I think I will definitely use more in the future.
Thank you to the author and a gifted book in exchange for an honest review
My Favourite Quote: “You will become way less concerned with what other people think of you when you realize how seldom they do”
Create your own calm is a book journal with an empowering tool for self-care. The book is designed to help readers better understand themselves and dial down the everyday worries getting in our way
Firstly, I need to mention just how beautiful the illustrations within this book are, and they are actually themselves very calming, and a lot of the quotes chosen for this book really resonate with me. I feel that this is the ideal tool required during these unprecedented times of local and national lockdowns, as many people are experiencing new restrictions and disruptions/changes to their normal routines, therefore people are more likely to experience some form of anxiety, and this book is so ideal for people to use!
For me personally this is the first self-help book I have ever read, and I really enjoyed doing the activities, especially those that require self-discovery and soe of these activities are really thought provoking, as I could list numerous ways that I was hard on myself, but then when asked to self-evaluate and think of ways to control these negative thoughts, it was really difficult but also so enlightening.
I found the activities so helpful and actually found that I was able to notice the triggers within myself, and this book actually helped me more than I thought it would. It was nice to pinpoint some of my behaviours and feelings, and this then helped me to develop new learning behaviours, I am actually attending counselling sessions for anxiety and other reasons, and that alongside with this book I feel are an important tool for me and so helpful for my progress to learning to live with my myself, especially during this pandemic
I really like the introduction and acknowledgements from the author and feel that they are very personal and from the heart which really gives the journal authenticity, plus I really like the fact that the author includes a bibliography in which it is stated where each quote has come from if readers want to explore more
I would easily pick up anything else from this author
I would recommend this book to anyone who feels they could benefit from a self-help tool, or anyone who is interested in self-discovery, as completing these activities will help with that
Meera Lee Patel is a self taught artist and best selling author of several books. Her work helps others cultivate mental wellness and find peace within themselves. Create Your Own Calm is a beautiful journal with some wonderful activities as a way of finding peace and reducing anxiety. In this crazy busy day and age, everyone has a vision of how life should be, it’s constant, fast flowing and stressful. This should not be how we live our lives. I love that this journal helps us remember that we should always take time for ourselves and to remember that we don't have to live life at such a fast pace all the time. Complete with such gorgeous illustrations and quotations, some of which I have not heard and think they fit perfectly in this journal. Meera has created a beautiful companion for anyone who wants to work on overcoming their anxieties and find the belief in themselves that they so deserve. I received this book when my cat had to go to the vets for the first time, my car had broken down for the third time in the same amount of months and I started back at work in the busiest time of the year after being on furlough for 8 months. I had so much anxiety floating around my head that I really struggled to switch off and constantly worrying about every little thing. Working my way through this journal has really helped ground me and work on unnecessary worries that plague my daily life. I absolutely love this book and I will be looking out for all her other work as I am sure they will be just as beautiful and helpful as this one. For anyone who wants to focus on their mindfulness this would be perfect for you. 5/5
I am a big fan of any kind of book that promotes mindfulness, helps with anxiety and is just generally a reference point you can refer to when you need it.
This is a unique book that is different to any of the mindfulness books that I have or have seen available. It promotes journaling and writing down how you are feeling. I really like the little exercises that you can do if you're feeling anxious and it's definitely a book I will be coming back to time and time again. The exercise that I liked in particular was on how to leave your worry behind by meditating on in. The book is full of colour, beautiful illustrations and quotes that make you smile and just make you feel happy just by opening it.
This would also make a really lovely little gift for a friend or someone who you think might be struggling at the moment. In the current climate that we live in, mindfulness and anxiety is something that has come to the forefront of everyone’s mind and I think that in these times this is the perfect little journal to document your thoughts and feelings and maybe reflect on them at a time when you are feeling more centred. I note from the back of the book that the author also has other books in the series which I will also definitely be looking into.
I received a gifted copy of this book for an honest review.
📚 B O O K T O U R 📚 . . Create Your Own Calm : Meera Lee Patel . . Welcome to my altar space. I don't often share it as it's pretty personal, but here we go. And I'm sharing it because for the last couple of weeks this gorgeous book has been living on it. And today is my day on the tour for it 😍 . . I'm well versed in the world of mindfulness journals. A few years back, it became so important for me to take better care of my mental health. And I honestly believe that all that work has served me so well coming into 2020 and being able to deal with the pandemic. Having said that, I've struggled. It's been tough. So to be on the tour for this absolute stunner of a journal came at just the right time. Especially as I'd probably got a bit complacent with my mental self-care. Anyway. This journal. . . It. Is. Beautiful. . . I love it. I'm thoroughly enjoying working through it at a steady pace. Finding my centre and finding time for me. I'm feeling anxiety slip away. I'm seeing the gifts and positives that 2020 has given me - even though it has been utterly rubbish! . . If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed. Anxious. I cannot recommend this beautiful journal more. . . A massive thank you to @lovebookstours for this #gifted copy 😍 . . #calm #anxiety #lovebooktours #mentalhealth #itsokaynottobeokay #selfcare #reflection #mentalhealthmatters #journaling #journal
This beautiful book illustrated by @meeraleepatel gorgeous watercolour paintings, is a combination of quotes, positive affirmations and journal prompts that allow you to reflect on your anxieties and worries and find the positives and really move towards self acceptance. For me having something like this that you can dip in and out of when you need to, is very reassuring and really helps to calm those overwhelming feelings of anxiety and stress that many of us have grown accustomed to.
This is actually my second book from @meeraleepatel collection having bought her first journal Start Where You Are a few years ago which I loved. The chance to review this book couldn’t have come at a better time for me and I was not disappointed. I absolutely adore it - I find putting pen to paper and really reflecting on my emotions truly helps me to process my thoughts and feelings and give me back a little bit of control and clarity.
2020 has been such a difficult year, full of uncertainties for so many people and I think we have all been forced to look at our own mental health and how we protect it and I do think that this type of book is one way of helping to manage those feelings and I would encourage anyone to give it a go.
Thank you very much to @meeraleepatel @omarabooks @lomartbooks @lovebookstours for my review copy of this book.
Thank you to the publisher, the author and Love Books Tours for a gifted copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
💫About the author💫 Meera Lee Patel is a self taught artist raised in America. Her illustrations are inspired by the magical mysteries of nature...and the bold colours of her native India. "With a clear head and a quiet heart, anything is possible"
As I've got older my anxiety levels have increased. And this year has thrown so many things our way, that I think taking time out with this book can only help. I am very much about mindfulness and self care and this journal is the perfect tool to use. Take some "me time" to do the journalling excercises and wonder at the beautiful, colourful illustrations and quotations. It encourages peace, calmness and self acceptance.
This is now the most stunning book I own and I will treasure it. This would make such a special gift for a friend also. I adore books like this and already have my eye on Meera's other journals.
a beautifully illustrated journal for helping to ease the everyday anxieties we all carry.

The first thing I noticed when I received this book was the beautiful calming cover. The colours and design are lovely.
I suffer on and off with anxiety so was looking forward to using this book as a self help tool. I certainly wasn't disappointed.
The author has written a foreward and given us an insight of her battle with anxiety. Inside the book are lots of activities/exercises like drawing, journaling etc to help calm you. You can choose to do these in any order depending on how you are feeling and what kind of day your having. The activities are interspersed with beautiful, colourful quotes.

I have been SO excited to share this beautiful book with you all. as an avid journaling planner girl, this could have been made for me. I love everything about it - aesthetically it is just so gorgeous, filled with absolutely beautiful illustrations and stunning handwritten quotes and sayings. It is such a useful book as well with so many ideas to ease stress and anxiety. We all need something like this in the modern world - an opportunity to step away from the screens, to pick up a pen and take some time out for our self. If you are looking for way to really practice self care, this would be ideal. It made a perfect Christmas gift - I bought copies for some of my friends. I can’t speak highly enough of this wonderful book - just what we need when we are all stuck indoors with too much time on our hands and in our brains!
I was very interested to check out this journal because I wanted to find out more about anxiety and how to deal with it. All these terms regarding mental health are still new to me, so I was intrigued to find out more of the ways to identify it and deal with it. The first thing that caught my eye was quotes written in watercolour! I have a weakness for beautiful quotes and watercolour art, and this journal has that on every second page! Also, this journal is a very well designed tool to write down your thoughts. There are plenty of prompts to guide you, and it makes you delve deep into yourself and your mind. The colours and the art are soothing and inspiring, and I liked that there are so many prompts to help with everyday and life fears and things that make people anxious.
This is a self help book for those suffering with anxiety, it also includes both journaling exercises and prompts as well as quotes from many famous authors. Such as Zadie Smith and many more. The author's purpose for writing this book is to help people with who suffer from anxiety to give them relief from the fear most people have with anxiety and help them grow and set new possibilities for yourself. Overall this book has really helped calm me with all the prompts, the book is illustrated with beautiful pictures and quotes. Thank you to @lovebooktours and @MeeraleePatel for sending me a copy this book is stunning and i definitely recommend picking up a copy.
The quotes on the left hand pages are so empowering and the illustrations are so beautiful! Then on the right hand page is the activities. Each one so different and they really tap into your emotions in order to try and help to take control.
This is a very much dip in and out book. Of course, you could read through it in one go, but with regards to the activities I would think the most benefit would come from taking your time and possibly keeping some for days when your anxiety is peaked.
I would recommend this book to everyone, even if you don’t think you suffer with anxiety. Or as a fabulous Christmas present 💝
Create your own calm is a book journal with an empowering tool for self-care. The book is designed to help readers better understand the anxiety issues and dial down the everyday worries getting in our way.
I love journals and especially a pretty one, the quotes in this journal were powerful, written aesthetically; I'm still working my way through the exercise on every page and definitely enjoying it.
It is good to see artists and authors write about anxiety issues because I don't think we talk about them enough. Plus Just looking at the beautiful art makes you calm,I loved it.
Thank you @lovebooktours for the beautiful gifted copy.
This book is absolutely beautiful. I suffer with mild anxiety and the tasks are short and thoughtful enough to give me chance to take some mindful time out during the evening. It doesn’t put too much pressure on and the fact that you can dip in and out of it is great - I’m not one for filling something in daily as I end up forgetting and then feel guilty for doing so! I love motivational quotes and the quotes chosen for this book are perfect - many from literature. The illustrations themselves are beautiful.
Such a beautifully illustrated book. This is a self help book for people who suffer with anxiety. I could see how it could help by working through all the exercises which make you think about your current situation. Full of quotes - many.if which I would love to pull out of the book and frame. Thank you to the publisher and the author for the chance to read this title in exchange for an honest review.
Meera Lee Patel's books are National treasures. She inspires confidence for the most difficult journey. This book is so beautiful that the thoughtful prompts and elegant art work designates it as a keepsake and raises its exercises to a permanent sense of deep importance. Wherever you are on your life's journey you will think about and answer these questions differently, and a powerfully comforting sense of your own potential will emerge.
This book is amazing, however, there are some question that I don’t think I can tackle at the moment. The artwork is great and lets the reader feel relax and at ease. It does help you in understanding about your anxiety and what you are feeling. I enjoyed it. This will be a helpful book in the long run when I will love to revisit to answer some of those questions. Thank you.
Thanks to the author and lovebookstours for my copy of this book in return for my own honest review. This is another self help book that has positive inspiring quotes and little questions to make you think and reflect, I would recommend maybe doiI am still working through this book and will post full review once completed.ng a few pages a day and working your way through this book?
This is the most lovely journal! If you struggle with anxiety and would like to try out journaling to help manage it, this is for you. In addition to thoughtful prompts, @meeraleepatel has included meaningful quotes, and the illustrations are so beautiful. This would make a really great gift for a loved one with anxiety (or for yourself!).
This is a beautiful journal with stunning watercolour art from the author on every page and meaningful quotes throughout. Each page is structured to guide you through different thought provoking themes in your writing :)
Even if some ideas are interesting I found it a bit too generic and very far from my experience as I don't like journaling. It's not my cup of tea. Many thanks to the publisher and Edelweiss for this ARC, all opinions are mine
