Another really solid volume of his series, even though the book starts off with a tea-based story that I don’t necessarily think adds much of anything.
Here’s the thing - I don’t MIND a glacial pace (and make no mistake, this series advances its storylines by the smallest of degrees - it took five volumes for a broken arm to heal for pity’s sake) as long as the characters are doing interesting things or being interesting and we get plenty of both here.
While Hime is still a borderline unlikeable main character (I realize as I write this that she and Mitsuki are perfect for each other in how they don’t interact well with others - just from different angles), she’s so damn interesting. She has no pretensions about what she wants or how she handles other people - however we are starting to see that change and it’s fascinating to watch (there is so much good staircase drama at the end of this book and it’s ALL earned).
Couple that with an adorable shopping date Hime has with Kanoko (nobody involved could EVER read too much into that, now could they...) and an interesting flashback to how Mitsuki ended up at the salon and you have a cracking volume.
Art gets the job done, it’s not great. And could have used more Kanoko and Sumika interactions because I swear they’re going to end up together. It has weak spots, but on reflection there is SO much good writing here that I can’t call it less than a five star read for me.

update: no, i'm dnf'ing this series. i sold my entire set and i'm done. this series is infuriating. if i read it, it'll be secondhand from a library or something because i don't want to subject myself to bad yuri anymore.

I am pissed. Nothing happened in this volume!!! We've regressed back to the first volume when Yano never communicates why she's always mad at Hime and Hime manipulates people into liking her. I'm gonna take a gander and say people even mildly interested can skip straight to the last book and they'll get the gist. Still engaging but a bit repetitive with the characters’ different issues with themselves and each other. I hope we get a bit more on track with character development in the next volume.

Usually I’m miserable when it’s a 200% angsty series but this is the rare exception. Insert a gif of that quote in PoA when Ron goes “you’re gonna suffer....but you’re going to be happy about it”

Charmante romance jouant sur les codes des histoires entre filles, elle continue de s'amuser avec nous dans un tome très dynamique où tous les fils nous ramènent peu à peu vers le couple principal du début. Il était temps.
Maintenant que l'élection de Miss Blume est passée et que les duos sont bels et bien formés, on peut revenir au coeur de l'histoire, la relation compliquée entre Mitsuki et Hime, mais l'autrice aime prendre et prendre encore des détours. Voici donc un tome qui nous perd pour mieux nous ramener à l'ensentiel.
Il nous offre d'abord une charmante petite escapade amicale où Hime retrouve son amie de l'école pour se balader, échanger avec elle et renouer leur amitié. Elle met en scène également plusieurs scènes de jalousie où Hime laisse exploser sa frustration quant à leur situation actuelle au café où elle continue à sentir une distance entre elles et où elle a l'impression que celle-ci porte un masque. Enfin, elle nous propose de découvrir comment Mitsuki en est arrivée à travailler là et ce que ça lui a apporté en matière de relationnel. Tout cela est charmant et fonctionne bien, même si en tant que lectrice je trouve l'ensemble un peu fade et superficiel derrière ses allures mignonnes.
Je trouve l'autrice meilleure quand elle joue la carte de la confrontation entre les deux jeunes filles et qu'on met les pieds dans le plat. Il y a besoin selon moi de cela pour avancer car cela a beau être mignon de les voir jouer avec les codes des romances entre filles pour faire saliver leurs clients, le lecteur de cette aventure peut s'ennuyer à force de voir une telle répétition dans le schéma scénaristique de l'histoire. C'est mon cas. La lassitude est là. Je suis donc contente de commencer à voir les choses bouger et je trouve même une certaine sensibilité à cela, notamment avec une Mitsuki qui réalise combien elle est maladroite avec les autres et combien c'est difficile pour elle de saisir toutes les subtilités des différentes relations. Reste en revanche une Hime en mode enfant gâtée dont je ne sais trop quoi faire...
Si vous aimez les romances FxF qui mélangent comédie, références de pop culture manga et sensibilité, vous devriez continuer à passer un bon moment avec nos petites serveuses qui petit à petit arrive à l'achèvement de leur relation en apprenant à dire ce qu'elles ont sur le coeur. Si vous cherchez une histoire un peu plus dense et profonde, vous risquez d'être déçue par cette fable romantique parfois un peu fade et survolée.

Podríamos decir que este tomo ha sido interesante.
Esta quinta entrega me ha parecido un tomo un poco puente, que prepara a los personajes y la trama para el futuro, aunque la he disfrutado igual. La autora aprovecha para enseñarnos más sobre el funcionamiento del Café y el trasfondo de personajes como Yano. Y, como siempre, ha habido melodrama... mucho melodrama: esas escaleras del café han visto muchas cosas. Tengo ganas de ver como este choque entre Hime y Yano las ayuda a desarrollarse como personajes y como hace evolucionar su relación.

mi ha fatto davvero piacere conoscere il personaggio di Mistuki più profondamente e vedere anche una rappresentazione neurodivergente. Questo volume ancora più degli altri fa davvero un buon lavoro a mostrare che le persone sono complesse e a volte è proprio questo che rende la comunicazione difficile

I don't even know what to say about this series anymore. It's weirdly melodramatic fluff and barely has any comedy moments anymore. And the story just comes to a halt every other chapter while characters learn and re-learn the same lessons.

.... welcome back to the usual: Hime is an unlikable idiot, Mitsuki is annoyed with her, Mai the manager pulls some quick shenanigans ... and whats this? a chapter of at least 2 people having an honest proper conversation with shades of yuri overtones, legit?!?

Not really a review, but the more I learn about Yano, the more I love her. She's so precious and flawed. Such a change from how much I disliked her when she was first introduced. I really love all these characters (even Hime, who is likably unlikable, if that makes sense).

I am now going to give the three main reasons why this is swiftly becoming one of my favorite yuri/romance/drama series of all time:
1. EVERYONE IS AWFUL AND I LOVE IT. What I mean by that is everyone's horrible personality traits are front and center in this series and I love it because, you may want to sit down for this, MOST PEOPLE HAVE HORRIBLE PERSONALITY TRAITS. Despite this, usually said characters are seen as villains, antagonists, or their horrible personality traits are washed away by the goodness that is the main character and hold up, give me a moment, gotta go vomit.
I've grown more and more fond of unlikable main characters since they add a different dynamic to the story and it's interesting watching their growth (assuming its handled well). Hime's character is handled really well because she's so honest about her manipulation and is so proud of it, yet it causes her so much trouble so her actions aren't condoned. I also love how, despite these flaws, she's willing to help and actively seeks out help in order to be more useful. It shows how people can have horrible personalities, but still do the right thing or be good people.
2. Communication is HARD AS FUCK. If there is one thing I can absolutely appreciate about this series, it's showing how hard communication is and how easy it is to fuck it up. Yano reminds me a lot of myself and how hard it was for me to find the "right answer" when interacting with others, but her plight doesn't seem unrealistic or overly dramatic. People are fucking difficult to read and unless someone explains unspoken rules it's damn near impossible to interpret what people say correctly. While I don't necessarily agree with the idea that you should "act kinder and it will eventually become a part of you," but interacting with others can be considered a form of acting, so it's not entirely wrong. Just has a manipulative undertone to it.
3. The drama is balanced. There's enough melodramatic shit going on to keep me invested, but it's not like someone's recovering from their family being murdered or was neglected for years as a child. It's just normal, miscommunication bullshit that keeps the drama going and I actually really like it. I want to know how these characters are going to grow and what relationships will form from said growth.
That's all that I want to say. I really do love this series and was rereading the last two volumes in preparation for this one. Can't wait for volume 6!
