Welcome to Evermore Academy where the magic is dark, the immortals are beautiful, and being human SUCKS.
After spending my entire life avoiding the creatures that murdered my parents, one stupid mistake binds me to them for four years.
My penance? Become a human shadow at the infamous Evermore Academy, finishing school for the Seelie and Unseelie Fae courts.
All I want is to keep a low profile, but day one, I make an enemy of the most powerful Fae in the academy.
The Winter Prince is arrogant, cruel, and apparently also my Fae keeper. Meaning I'm in for months of torture.
But it only gets worse. Something dark and terrible looms over the academy. Humans are dying, ancient vendettas are resurfacing, and the courts are more bloodthirsty than ever.
What can one mortal girl do in a world full of gorgeous monsters?
Fight back with everything I have--and try not to fall in love in the process.
If you love reading about fated mates, enemies-to-lovers, snarky heroines, and everything Fae, then one click today and fall into this magical new series that's being called Vampire Academy meets The Cruel Prince!
P.S. This full-length story may leave you with a book hangover. P.P.S. This Upper YA/NA series will eventually be four books and is intended for mature audiences. It contains cursing, sexual situations, and violence.
Every once a while you read a book that checks many of the things you usually can’t stand in books: A Marie Sue, close to perfect heroine Too much talk about a guy’s hotness A very mean girl for no reason Contradictions (like the MC claiming something but reality says otherwise) Soul mates A heroine who gets away with her big mouth while others wouldn’t dare talk the way she does At one point asshole another very caring hero
But you know what? I freakin enjoyed this book. So much. And I read for entertainment, no less no more. So yes, this book is far from being perfect. But I couldn’t stop reading and the story was hella fun.
So I wrote a review after reading the book but it wasn’t saved on my pc for some reason (only the upper part was). After a while I tried gathering my thoughts about the book again. I decided to lower my rating from 4 ro 3 stars
BEFORE: I did not care about these flaws and I’m already looking forward to reading the sequel. I was enjoying every single moment. I know many would not be so ready to shrug it off and I totally understand why but now all I want to do is read books about academy and magic schools, overused trope or not, it’s one of my favorites.
NOW: I do not think I’ll be reading the sequel. The story gives you a rush that makes you feel empty after some time. The writing style is amazingly addicting but then a few days have passed since I read the book and things I dismissed/overlooked aren’t so easily forgivable anymore. It was also very forgettable… I still want to read more of this trope though. I still like Summer, she's witty and fun to be in her head.
The weaknesses of this book weren’t a few. I won’t list them all but here are a few examples: Summer being on top of her class while this is all new to her –like wait what? Better than Mack who has been studying hard for it even before she joined the academy? Another thing I wish it was not featured was the mate things… I really hate it but at the same time, I like the prince a lot.
Summer claimed they were on the verge of starvation, yet had internet in their house.. how?
I don’t understand how a 3.5k years old fae while another is 500 years are in the SAME class with 18 years old –or so- mortals. The whole program is 4 years. We were led to believe that it’s the first time of the 500 yo in class. But just how are they attending the academy?
So they say fairies invaded earth, how do they talk English too? American-centered much?
I can go on but it’s not necessary, you get the idea. I’d recommend this book only if you’re looking for a very fun mindless read. No less, no more.
Holy Fae, this book was amazing! I was so hesitant about it at first because I am tired of seeing Academy series everywhere and they have become so repetitive. However, this was such a fresh take with an even steamier romance that will make you wish you could cool off afterwards in this Winter Wonderland.
I am dying for the rest of this series and am having some serious withdrawals. This was one of those books that the closer that I got to the end, the more panicky I got because I did not want it to end. I never wanted to leave this world! Every thing I have read from this author is amazing, but this one may seriously be my absolute favorite.
The reviews are mixed and this is maybe a love it or loath it kind of book but I was firmly in the love it camp.
Maybe it was because it was the only ray of sunshine I had on my sickbed over Christmas. Or maybe the fever was making me delirious but I like to think it was because it was a great Fae Academy with a heroine I could really get behind.
Summer is a starving human who finds herself stealing from the Fae to feed her younger brothers and sisters. She’s caught red handed and sentenced to attended Evermore Academy for four years. She’s part slave, part student. The only human there who doesn’t come from a wealthy family, these human are paired as “guards” to a Fae master that need protection from the Darklings. So it’s not only part academy part service but also part fight training.
Are you getting the picture yet why I dig this so much???
It’s got all the cliches you’ll either love or hate The mean girls Sexy shirtless Fae The powerful "Elite Six" Fae who rule the school and try to make her life hell. A Broody Winter Prince A lot of “I hate you” but I still want you’s Abs, abs and more abs
It’s even funny and Summer has her own comedic sidekick. Ruby the drunk pixie.
I enjoyed every scene of teenage angst filled drama. The Winter Prince was actually very transparent in his motives to put distance between himself and Summer. But I guess we wouldn’t have the drama if she didn’t hate him!
Each time I leave the encounter feeling like I’m drowning. Like he’s an itch I can’t scratch. A smarmy, arrogant, beautiful pointy-eared dickwad rash I can’t get rid of. It’s torture.
You’ll work the whole plot out in about 150 pages and the answers seem to be staring Summer in the face, but none of that mattered to me. It was lovely and lengthy and very easy to read and the few romantic moments ... I read 10 times over before moving on.
I actually don’t think I have moved on yet at all. I’m having a major book hangover and ... Yes you guessed it There’s a 6 month wait for book 2
Woe is me. My life is spent waiting on sequels
If you find yourself on a sickbed this Winter I can’t think of a better way to pass the time. I’ll just be here
-Summer leads us to believe she lives this horrible life, struggling to survive and take care of other orphans. Few chapters in, we learn she lives in a perfectly functioning house with electricity, running water, gas, and INTERNET. Oh yeah, she and the other orphans are under the care of two ADULTS.
-She stole cheetos and suckers. No, that wasn't all she took, but I'm gonna be judgemental here and say maybe she should focus more on the things they NEEDED over WANTED if things are that bad.
-I'm sorry, if money is near useless, why is her aunt working at all, especially if one months pay barely covers a package of toilet paper? Wouldn't it make more sense for people to work for rations instead? HOW CAN THEY AFFORD THE HOUSE AND ALL THE BILLS IF MONEY IS SO LITTLE AND USELESS? If things are so bad, why do her aunts not seem concerned over obtaining food? I'm under the impression they get some kind of rations from the government, it's just not food Summer or the children like (pretty sure she mentioned they ate gruel at one point in this book).
-Cue mean girl(s) hating our MC for absolutely no other reason than because she's poor and/or human. Please, I'm begging authors to stop doing this; it's such a weak tactic for creating pointless drama. Also cue their later hatred because she has the attention of the Winter Prince.
-"Trailer park (trash)". You will see this so many times because the mean girls have no creativity when it comes to insults. Be warned your eyeballs may roll out of your head by the time you've reached the half way point because it is used so often.
-Cue new BFF out of nowhere who is only there as moral support and to give information to our clueless heroine.
-Pause. I forgot the special snowflake MC without parents. Summer is a Mary Sue. No, I'm not kidding. Despite being average in school, she passes all her tests with straight A's at the academy and becomes "smarter" than her brainiac BFF. Mean girls hate her for petty reasons. Has the attention of a PRINCE. Absolutely no consequences for her actions. Is saved by her pendant or -- wait for it -- the Winter Prince numerous times from countless situations. Just about everybody is either friendly or are protective of her, except said mean girls. Is the only human at the academy who shows a lick of humanity towards others and tries to help them. Has not a single flaw (except the fact she never really thinks about or misses her "poor" family unless it's convenient to remind us about the "poor" lifestyle she came from). Need I go on?
-Of course the Winter Prince and MC have a special connection. Having the characters act like they hate each other doesn't steer me away from the big reveal later, sorry. I saw it coming from the moment they first met.
-There is nothing new or unique about this story. If you've read any story revolving around an academy/school, it's more or less just that. Not bad or anything, but if you're burnt out on said books, this probably won't appeal to you.
-The whole premise of switching bodies is one I loathe. I don't care if the previous person/creature was already dead or whatever. Using their body is damn creepy and not the good kind of creepy. There's a reason it's used in horror flicks. I've noticed recently some authors are trying to turn it into a new twist for romance and soul mates. Quit it. It's disturbing.
-So this is a book that centers around Fae, but...they also shapeshift? Or some of them can? Is that a thing with Fae? I haven't read many books with Fae but I don't recall that being a thing with their species. It's almost as if the author meshes species together and... I don't really care for it. We have those who are Fae and Lycan, Fae and Vampire, Fae and...whatever the hell the winter prince supposedly is. I don't care for it or how it's portrayed here.
-The only time Summer brings up her home/family after arriving at the academy it's just to remind us she came from a "poor" lifestyle. BYE. Honey, you had a roof over your head, clothes on your back, a family, and found ways to get food and yet her life was JUST OH SO TERRIBLE. Someone whip out the world's tiniest violin, hurry! No, it wasn't a luxurious or ritzy lifestyle, but it's certainly not so little to make me pity you over it.
-No seriously. There's a point where she worries she'll be leaving the academy and doesn't want to because she likes her new lifestyle, not once feeling happiness that she will see her family after several months. She never worries if her family is okay, if they're getting enough food, the possibility Cal might be doing things to them. Nope. But she has no trouble mentioning how hot the winter prince is, over and over and over again and chowing down on candy and cheetos. Look, I'm not a big family person myself, but I will say it absolutely disgusts me when people act like their family is oh-so-important to them -- only to abandon or forget said family for a luxurious lifestyle and a love interest.
-There's a mini reveal about Evelyn near the end and Summer worries about her for a page or two, until it all shifts back to herself and suddenly Evelyn is forgotten. Didn't even bother to look for her at the dinner she was supposedly hoping to find her at. No. It's all about Summer, Summer, Summer.
-I'm starting to realize I really don't like Summer as much as I thought I did and I'm torn between being frustrated and disappointed, because it took me almost the entire book before I realized this.
-Summer admitting she knows next to nothing about the Winter Prince yet "realizes" she is in love with him. Nope, not how that works. It's still insta love. This I why I have issues with the soul mates trope. Writers tend to use it to skip the slow burn process and instead focus on "well, I feel this unexplainable pull to him/her" and *insert countless times of describing love interest's sexiness/good looks* then BAM. Both are together without any real build up or truly knowing one another because "they're soul mates". Sorry, but I need more that a character simply being physically attracted to another for me to believe they're in love.
-I thought this book would have animal appreciation from what we see in the beginning. It doesn't and I'm sad.
Okay. I'm forcing myself to stop here. I've unleashed my inner frustrations enough. Let's end this with some things I DID like.
-The writing. I don't know what it is, but there's something damn addictive about this author and her writing style. Not too complex yet not ridiculously simplistic either. It's a perfect mesh of both. She has a talent for giving life to her characters and the world around them. It's also in first person, a perspective I personally favor.
-Even though I have a lot of issues with Summer as a character, I still found her voice easy to read through. Plus, I'm a sucker for a snarky heroine. She does have some good moments sprinkled in the book.
-TINKERBELL. Ahem, I mean Summer's spite, Ruby. Loved her.
-I thought there was going to be a love triangle but there really wasn't? Which I'm glad for.
-Our dear Winter Prince has WINGS. I'm always love winged characters, especially feathered wings.
-I also loved how the weather shifted depending on the Winter Prince's mood.
-Eclipsa. Dear assassin Fae who carries pointy, stabby objects and acts like a big sister to everyone.
Will I pick up the next installment? Ehh. Summer is almost too perfect for my liking and her character falls into YA tropes. I honestly just got this in hopes to help me wait out the third installment of the author's Oath Taker series. I really like this author's writing style, but Summer as a character bothered me in so many places and certain themes (like body swapping) turn me off. So I probably won't.
I never thought I'd say that I read to much.... but I think I would have enjoyed this book more if I hadn't already read way too many similar stories.
So the backstory-in this book we have our h, Summer, a human teenager living in the Tainted Zone, separated by a wall of magic that runs parallel to the Evermore (fae) Winter Prince's lands. Years ago a magical force destroyed a huge part of the US killing a large portion of the humans living there- and eventually the fae took over that land for their own.
However, eventually the sick magic of the fae crossed the boundary, and started to infect humans turning them into Darklings that end up killing everyone in their path. Because of that Summer and most of the people who lived in the Tainted Zone are cut off from the rest of the world and it's resources. With little food and a family to feed Summer is forced into the fae side and caught by the Prince for stealing. Instead of just simply killing her, he brands her and tells her she is to be send to the Evermore Academy to become a shadow or shield to her new fae master.
With enemies at every turn, and her unexplained feeling for a certain cold hearted fae growing- Summer has to rely on her wits and new friend to help her survive the school year.
Spoiler review:
So while I really enjoy fae, lovers-to enemies stories- and competition....I just wasn't surprised by anything, and there was never any doubt to where the story was going. Also, like I said, maybe I've read to many books in this genre- because at times it felt like I was playing trope bingo.
»Dead parents trope »bitchy popular girl that wants to take out the h....bc she's different and poor? »hot-cold H is nice one second then a d-bag the next (but its okay because he protecting her *cue eye roll*) »I like the d-bag now so it 'must be Stockholm syndrome' cliche »thousand year old H w/ teenage h »oh no, my traitorous body line »insta love/ lust- soul bond- mates
I mean it was fun...but I don't feel the need to run out and read the next one.
I went into this book expecting an average paranormal romance novel with fae. What I got was so much more than that! I loved how fleshed out the world the author created was. It feels like we've only seen the tip of the iceberg and I want to know more!
Summer is a sassy, strong woman who fights for survival daily. She was in a hard situation and ended up in an even worse situation because she was trying to help her family survive. Throughout this book, a mysterious past that even she's unaware of is sprinkled in and I really want to know all about it! I liked her sort of relationship with The Winter Prince.
The Winter Prince's hot and cold attitude was a bit of a turn-off for me in the beginning. By the end, his initial actions are explained and it does start to make some sort of sense to the bigger story. So he eventually won me over, though his need to protect Summer even if it means getting hurt in the process was disappointing to me. I want him to fight for love, damn it!
The one thing that made me dislike this book and remove a star were the overly mean mean-girls and the extravagant way they would go about hurting/tormenting Summer. Other than that, this book was very enjoyable!
I got frustrated with Summer in the end. She was so dense and purposely naive about the dangers she knew were real and very close to home. I'm so glad things worked out and that we didn't get left with a cliffhanger of epic proportions. I'm very excited for the next book in this series!
The Audio Book:
The narration was fantastic! Every character had a different enough voice to be distinguishable on their own.
I am pleasantly surprised. No one talks about this book that I have heard. I found it by chance at my local bookstore. Not ashamed to say it was, in fact, a cover buy. That being said the story was wonderful. Summer Soltisce is a human whose parents were murdered by the Fae. The Fae have taken over the country and she and her found family live in what is called the Tainted Zone. She has to steal to feed her family. One day she makes a mistake that costs her freedom and she winds up at Evermore Academy. I don't want to say more because sometimes it's better going in not knowing a whole lot. This book felt like a modern fairytale in a way. There are challenges to face, bullies to deal with, but when you have your own circle of friends its' all worth it. I enjoyed how fast paced the story was and how real the characters felt. I am glad I found this book. I have to say reading this was time well spent.
This book had everything to be great, till the 10th chapter was pretty good then the feelings got in the way and the h became bratty, stubborn, self-center and couldn't keep her mouth shut to save her life!!! In a world so cruel and evil to humans, she gets away with a lot . She fought against being the prince shadow in pure spite and for what? She walks a fine line between being all bad ass and a total stiff! She coerces the prince in telling her something important and fails in the first opportunity reveling his secrets!
Almost thrown my kindle against the wall several times and roll my eyes so much they almost got lock in the back!
The story is predictable since very early we understand she has something to do with the killed princess!!
+1 star for the backup characters!! Give me a book with Eclipsa has MC and i'm all in!
No matter how many books I read about cruel fae, magical academies, and palaces with balls, I can never get enough!
This book was everything I wanted it to be. It felt like a combination between Fallen and Daughter of Smoke and Bone. The plot was not crazy with twists and turns, and you basically saw the ending coming a mile away. But even so, I enjoyed every minute and couldn't put it down. I want to know what happens next now! I am thinking there will probably be at least 4 books in the series, one for each season, but who knows. I might have to look more into Audrey Grey's books. She has a way of skipping all the boring parts in books and just focusing on the fun bits. That isn't always ideal, but I enjoyed it here. Sometimes I hate having to wait.
Also, is this supposed to be a Beauty and the Beast retelling? I can kind of see it. Does anyone else find it crazy that everyone and their mom is making Beauty and the Beast retelling. Hey, I'm not complaining, just wondering. I will take all you can dish out.
Back to the book... solid. Good. Fascinating. and Fae. Need I say more?
I love Audrey’s style, I loved her other books and I was expecting nothing less from this one. Well, I was a bit disappointed. The style was beautiful as per usual, the female characters were amazing. But. There is a But: I have to say I am not completely sure about this book and about how I felt right after finishing it. Was it good? Yes, it was. Was it original? Not that much. Do I recommend this book? Yes, it was a light read and in the end a good book.
I found many little details that immediately reminded me of other books and that was a big No for me. Even if sometimes I felt like I was reading more books at the same time, I have to say I enjoys this read. Every character was written amazingly except for one: I did not like the Winter Prince. I am not saying I hated him, but I found him to be a little dull, nothing particular. He reminded me a lot of other characters and that definitely did not help.
The thing that really saved this book for me was the world building and the myths behind the story. I want to see where the author is going to go with the series before really make up my mind. Final vote: 3/5
Ebook provided by the author in exchange of an honest review.
Don't let the (IMHO anyway) kindaaa cheesy cover fool you... this book was FANTASTIC! I really am coming to love Audrey Grey's writing style, world building, character development, & story weaving. Her slow-to-medium-burn enemies to lovers is *🤌🏻* Chef's Kiss(!), utter perfection. If you love Holly Black, Jennifer L. Armentrout, SJM... I really think you should give this a try! After reading Grey's Kingdom of Runes series, with the final book having a semi-TBA release date, & having been Spellbound by her storytelling by then... I couldn't help myself! Cheesy covers be damned—this series is great!!!
Also, the comparison in the blurb boasting this to be a cross between The Cruel Prince x Vampire Academy is seriously freaking accurate ! Though the novel is also so much more, so much its own, unique, incredible, magical story, that stands on its own two feet (or more 🤷🏼♀️; its a story about fae, what do you want from me 😉)
Omg seriously, Audrey Grey is quickly becoming one of my favourite fantasy authors. Her stories are all beautiful and unique in their own ways. The way she writes is so descriptive that you can easily imagine these fantastical worlds and characters she has created. I was lucky enough to grab an early copy of this book for review and it had me hooked right from the beautiful cover all the way until the very last page. If you love kick ass heroines, swoon worthy enemy to lovers storyline and magical fae worlds then please check this one out. Can’t wait for the second book!
This one has just been a ball of joy!! I listened to it in audiobook format earlier this year, but now I'm doing a re-read on my kindle and man do I remember things better!
Summer is just a human trying to feed her adopted family, when she picks an apple from the wrong tree in the Shimmer (fae side). She's sentenced to servitude and has no choice but to attend Evermore academy a place where humans who are "privileged" enough get to be the servants of a fae and learn to fight Darklings.
She is constantly push and pulled between Rhaegar the summer prince and the cold winter prince. Why? Summer has no idea? Summer has to find her place at Evermore academy among the combat classes, secrets, and an attraction she can't explain.
Summer herself is not my favorite character as she falls into the mary-sue stereotype, but I gotta give it to her, she tries hard not to. I can't really blame her for being a Mary-Sue though, given her circumstances. She's being played around with and bullied by the fae in a world that is completely new to her.
The Winter Prince is your typical broody royal male love interest. WHICH I LOVE. I'll never get tired of this archetype. Sue me. Summer does manage to make a handful of loyal friends like Eclipsa, Mack, and Evelyn who stand by her when things get hard. Mack, especially is the vivacious and loyal best friend anyone would want.
If you're a fan of school dances and all the drama that comes along with it, you get TWO dances in this book! And yes, oh they are fun.
I'll end with saying that this book, despite being another academy novel with your typical archetypes and tropes (really they're all there), it was incredibly addicting and I have no qualms with reading the same plot over when done right. This one manages to make the characters interesting despite being so similar to so many other characters in other academy books. Well done Audrey Grey, well done.
Yea so this book was PERFECT,AMAZING, WONDERFUL!!!! I mean how is audrey not making movies and tv shows with her books! Cant even describe how much I loved this! I want to step into the world and see it in person it's so imaginative ! I absolutely adore the characters! The strength, love, and wonderful relationships between them all! They made me laugh, cry and swoon! I want to read the next one immediately!
I hate this book so fucking much. Oh my god. I hated this book as soon as I got to the 6% mark… Then I hated it more when we got 29% in… And then I decided I hated the time I’m using to read this at 56% mark… And by the time we got to 93% in, I wanted to unalive myself.
And do you want to know why I loathe this book? Summer ‘dumber that a pile of rocks with stupid motivations’ Solstice… I’ve never been more annoyed reading a character before in my whole life. This bitch was a walking contradiction. NOTHING SHE DID MADE AN OUNCE OF SENSE. oh you know stealing apples is wrong? Let me steal them anyways… Oh you want to keep your head down? Let me proceed to make a scene at every turn then wonder why everyone is looking at me. Like her ass eavesdropped so many times but then she never actually asked any questions? Instead she was concerned about why she wanted to fuck this Prince? How does she constantly just conveniently forget every single information given to her until the plot says she remembers? How is this dumb bitch even passing her classes?
This book was cliched and predictable as hell which in and of itself wasn’t a bad thing because cliches are cliches for a reason, but when your FMC clearly only has one brain cell rolling around in that big ass head and insipid in every way it makes it so hard to even care because how this dumbo be like “I hate him.. but I like him and I must now make him like humans and care about us”…. What. The. Actual. Fuck. I just don’t get it. Like what was the reason??!! Like how is the freaking moron gonna look at the necklace and say it looks similar to hers and then move on. Like I wanna fight so badly. Y’all don’t even know.
The more I sit here the more I’m fuming because like the writer was just hitting us over the head with literally everything. No subtlety whatsoever which is why it’s so hard to believe that Sumner was so damn dumb… but you know what? That’s my bad cause she did try to warn us in Chapter 1 right off the bat: “My motto: Better stupid and fed than smart and starving.” That should’ve been my clue to gtfo..
I wish Mack, Eclipsa and Asher were a polyamorous couple and then I would’ve forgiven everything about this book. The 1 star that I’m giving the book is for them.
I was given this arc by the author in exchange for my honest review. This book was freakin fantastic. I read it all night and into dawn. I couldn't stop reading no matter how tired my eyes got. Never have I read any mortal/fae book like this. This is the best version of those type books I've ever read. I am so in love with this book. The characters are so real as well as the world building you feel as though you're right there at Evermore Academy with Summer and Mack. I can't wait to find out what happens second year. A million thanks to the author for writing this. This was my first book by her but for sure won't be my last.
Absolutely Fantastic!!! I really enjoyed this read. I highly recommend this book. It hooked me from the start and I could not put it down. 5 crazy good stars!
Okay...I AM SO OBSESSED!!!!!! I am slowly absolutely falling in love with Audrey Grey’s work!!
This was soooo amazing! I loved absolutely everything about this book! I really loved the concept of the Fae having human “body gaurds”, if you will, that they rely on to protect them. I think that is such an interesting and unique concept. With that being said, I really liked the plot line of this story. There were times where certain things would happen that reminded me of other books, but I absolutely loved how the story progressed and developed throughout. Another thing that I absolutely loved was the modern world setting. I’ve never read a Fae story written in the modern world before, so it was super interesting and refreshing to have all the modern day references scattered throughout the book.
Now for the characters. I absolutely loved them!! I loved all the relationships we saw in this. Both the relationship Summer had with her family, to seeing her make friends in the academy, to OBVIOUSLY growing to love the hate to love relationship Summer had with the Prince.
I really enjoyed the romance in this. It was your classic hate to love troupe that had its unique twists. I am a sucker for the hate to love/enemies to lovers troupe, so I obviously adored this one. I think the backstory to Summer and the Prince’s relationship is really interesting (mind you I totally called it from the beginning) and addictive.
Overall, I CANNOT WAIT TO READ THE NEXT INSTALLMENT!!! I am slightly triggered that I won’t get to read it until it’s released next year...
Wow. I could not. stop. reading. I've seen a fair amount of academy books around, and added a bunch to my to-read list, too. Unfortunately, the first one I had a look at didn't really do anything for me but after this one I'm excited to read more!! First thing that stuck out for me in this book was how it just jumped straight into it, and even afterwards the pacing of the book was spot on, for me. The same could be said for the world-building. There was a lot to learn about the world- rules, history etc.- and I feel like that was done in a very natural, understandable way- that is, it wasn't chucked at us all at once, say, during a tour on her first day. Now onto the characters- I can only really process how I feel about 2 of them right now so I'll come back and maybe write about the others later. Summer!!!! Was the perfect blend of badass and vulnerability, and she is definitely a heroine I loved!!! Throughout the book I just kept thinking "I can totally see why he loves her *heart eyes* *heart eyes*". The second character I wanna talk about is Eclipsa, really just about how awesome she is and how I wanna see sooo much more of her. Please? *doe eyes*. As I said before, I'm not really sure how I feel about the Winter Prince because, honestly, I understand some of why he did the things he did, but he still just...confuses me, which I guess is the whole point lol. Overall, this was pretty predictable, but that didn't stop it from being an awesome read and I definitely recommend!
Ugh, this book leaves me split in two. It had everything I like to read in books in terms of content, twists, ideas, magic, beings, characters and relationship structures. And I was really good at it until halfway through. The writing style is also fluent. But then something just happened, which unfortunately many authors do: It all happens too fast, too soon and too superficially. Almost all the ammunition is fired at the beginning and I was very annoyed about that. Because if she had taken her time, created depth in the characters, added suspense and twists and breathed a little more colour into the whole thing, it would have been a great story. However, this way she scratches the surface and stays behind in the mainstream under the category of books that may have been nice, but you also don't have to read them. So bad, because the potential was there! I'll probably read volume two anyway, hoping that the author has improved, but I'm afraid I'll have to lower my expectations to enjoy the book.
Holy cow. I was addicted from chapter 1. It was explosive and fresh, something new that I haven't see before. And the cast of characters are so much fun! I'm partial to Ruby Ricin, she's a spitfire pixie who doesn't take crap from anyone. I'm a huge fan of supporting characters and all of them in this book are my faves. Even the "resident mean girl"! She was a character I truly enjoyed hating.
I can't wait to see more of the Everwilde world in the upcoming books and to see what Summer decides to do with all the revelations that happen at the end of this book. I wont spoil it for you, but there were some super huge plot twists and I loved them!
Ms. Grey could write a dictionary and I would read it because she's just that good.
Audrey Grey has done it again! Evermore Academy is full of great characters (ones you LOVE and ones you absolutely HATE), interesting world-building, and a story full of twists, turns, and secrets. I can't wait for year 2!
I really like this, and can’t wait to see what happens next. The story was very interesting and has lots of common story tropes and plots, mostly similar to a court of thorn and roses, cruel prince, vampire academy and lots more popular series.
Oh my goodness I could not put this book down! I loved it so much. It was like ACOTAR mashed with Cruel Prince with Hogwarts! AMAZING! I can’t wait for book two, I don’t want to wait for book two.
On the whole, despite the plot’s predictability, I enjoyed this tale of fae and humans trying to co-exist in a post-apocalyptic type world. I was hooked for the most part because of the world-building and the characters that unfolded. I very much liked the author’s writing style which was uncomplicated but not simplistic.
However, I did have a few issues. Firstly, there were a few scenes which I felt were too “inspired” by Harry Potter.
Secondly, I couldn’t comprehend how a 3,500 year old fae prince was required to attend an academy at all. Presumably he would have assimilated a great deal of knowledge from previous lives. Subsequently, I doubted his intelligence during Chimera gate, in his continued association with Inara and finally, despite vowing to always protect, his abandonment was a total contradiction.
I assume there will be four books for each season and a long wait in between (book 2 release is June 2020), which will probably deter me reading the sequel. I would have to re-read the first again as a reminder. I would, therefore, probably recommend this for a younger reader, who will have sharper memories and don’t mind a surprise free adventure.
