When Patricia Fisher finds her husband in bed with her best friend, she doesn’t react like most women might. But her hilarious and inspired flight from that situation results in this 50 something unfulfilled housewife taking an around the world cruise she really cannot afford.
The cost is soon a minor worry though, as one gin-fuelled pity party later, she is accused of murder and embroiled in the 30-year-old theft of a priceless jewel.
In our greatest challenges, we find our true strength and Patricia is the best example of how true that is. Let her story make your heart soar as she shrugs off the ashes of her failed marriage and becomes the incredible woman she was always meant to be.
This 4 book boxed set will give you hours of mirth-filled, often pulse-pounding, cozy mystery with no cussing or smuttiness and no graphic descriptions of sex of violence.
Book 1 – The Missing Sapphire of Zangrabar. A thirty-year-old priceless jewel theft and a man that really has been stabbed in the back. Can a 52-year-old, slightly plump housewife unravel the mystery in time to save herself from jail? With only a Jamaican butler faking an English accent and a pretty gym instructor to help, she must piece together the clues and do it fast. Or when she gets off the ship in St Kitts, she’ll be in cuffs!
Book 2 – The Kidnapped Bride. A cruise ship filled with gangsters, a missing woman, and a new head of security that can’t do his job. What’s a middle-aged sleuth to do? Patricia just wants to spend more time in the company of Alistair Huntley, the offensively handsome captain of the Aurelia who seems only too happy to host her. But as the Aurelia sets sail from Miami, it does so with a dangerous new addition: there is a mob boss among the passengers and he’s on the run – from more mobsters!
Book 3 – The Director’s Cut. It’s well known that working in movies can be cutthroat, but no one expected that to be taken literally. It’s party time on board the Aurelia! On the LA to Hawaii leg, a Hollywood film crew are shooting scenes for a new action movie and Barbie has been given a bit-part role. It’s all great fun and Patricia isn’t surprised when her cute, blonde friend attracts the attention of the handsome A-lister male lead.
Book 4 – The Couple in Cabin 2124. How do I always attract trouble and drama? When a crewmember takes his own life but hands Patricia a cryptic note and a request to save Anna just before he jumps, she feels she has no choice but to honour his dying wish. Who is Anna though?
Praise for Patricia Fisher: She's over 50, feisty and oh so clever at solving murders. This first book has so many twists, turns and red herrings the reader has to pay close attention to catch all the clues. Love Steve Higgs’ books and this new series did not disappoint. Patricia started out as a betrayed wife and moved into a strong, smart woman role. I love her and her side kicks already and this is only the first book. Can’t get enough of Steve’s stories and wait anxiously for the next to publish in all of his series. Higgs continues the 'cozy mystery' genre in this unexpected and empowering new series with no loss of empathy for human variety.
Let's start this off with an invitation to get some FREE books. No, you didn't read that wrong, we are talking about multiple free books. I love giving away free books because once people delve into the fast-paced mystery thrills I write, they go on to buy lots more.
When I wrote my first novel, Paranormal Nonsense, I was a Captain in the British Army. I would love to pretend that I had one of those careers that has to be redacted and in general denied by the government and that I have had to change my name and continually move about because I am still on the watch list in several countries. In truth though, I started out as a mechanic. Not like Jason Statham, sneaking about as a contract killer, more like one of those greasy gits that charge you a fortune and keep your car for a week when all you went in for was a squeaky door hinge.
At school, I was mostly disinterested in every subject except creative writing, for which, at age ten, I won my first award. However, calling it my first award suggests that there have been more, which there have not. Accolades may come but, in the meantime, I am having a ball writing mystery stories and crime thrillers and will claim to have more than a hundred books forming an unruly queue in my head as they clamor to get out.
Now retired from the military, I live in the south-east corner of England with a pair of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, I doubt I will ever leave, the beer is just too good.
I love mysteries. Especially mysteries on cruise ship since I have been on 26 cruises and mysteries set in English country sides. For some reason though this book made me feel like I was more in a fantasy land. There were more parts of this book that didn't seem true to life. Gangsters shooting and destroying a lounge. I can't see this happening. A ship's captain falling for a passenger. Maybe but it doesn't seem real. Ship's security teams getting help and taking their queues from a passenger? I can't see this happening either. I have to admit by end of book 2 I was ready to put it down and move on but if I wanted to give a honest review I read the remaining two books.
I wish the author the best but his books just aren't for me.
I read through the first two books, and it was a real struggle to do that much.
The storylines are unbelievable, which might have been okay, if it required just a general suspension of disbelief, but these were stupidly farcical too often.
The plots in both books were pretty transparent, so that didn't help.
At least we get weight loss tips from the author, right? (is this series just a wrapping for the author's pet peeves about middle aged women?)
Can not recommend these.
PS: Why is there a young, thin blonde on the cover when the author keeps banging on about Patricia being middle aged, overweight, etc?
Patricia Fisher is an older lady who loves sleuthing. After she caught her hubby in bed with her best friend she emptied their bank account and took off to go cruising. She has the best suite on board, her own butler, befriended the gym instructor, Barbie and the captain is smitten with her. She solves murders and puts herself in danger while travelling the world
The characters are interesting and I like the way they relate to each other. The mysteries are fun but some of the silly choices and decisions the protagonist makes are so improbable that I find them irritating. Otherwise it is a fun read in interesting settings for the most part. The dialogue between the characters is also entertaining.
You start out meeting Mrs. Patricia Fisher, a 50 sometihing slightly overweight English housewife. Because of a situation I won't divulge, she ends up on a round-the-world cruise in the best suite on the ship. The adventures from then on and her way to becoming fit and confident are priceless and many times are laugh-out-loud-even-tho-I'm-alone. Strongly recommend.
I've completely enjoyed these books. I regret that I read the later books first, but luckily it didn't mess up anything, story wise. Reading them in order is best, but the stories are a real page turner, full of action, romance and humor. I'm ready to go and read the next boxes set, this time in the right order.
I couldn't stop reading this series. The books flow together seamlessly and make you feel like you're right there in the thick of the mystery with Patricia. And boy does she get herself into some dangerous mysteries. I've already downloaded the next box set. I'm pretty sure I'll not be going to sleep anytime soon.
Great character development and explanation of locations. Quite twisted misadventures where Mrs Fisher goes in and out of jams. Always the heroine she always solves the case - but around many twists and turns. Great reading to take your mind off of things.
I really love this series of books the characters are really well written and enjoyable to read I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys cosy mystery stories..
I have enjoyed all of Steve Higgs books. Sometimes they are a wee bit far fetched but it is a fun story, so why not! I’ll grab any of his books for an enjoyable read without dissatisfaction except when they end. Highly recommend for light enjoyment.
Enjoyable lighthearted mystery. Patricia is a fifty something slightly overweight married lady. One day she discovers her husband and her best friend are having an affair. She is devastated decides to go on a holiday and her adventures begin. Main characters warm, kind and caring.
Got into this series because I've been reading everything that Steve higgs has written and I loved it, love how he makes ordinary people into heroes, can't wait to read the next instalment
These were great quick reads by an exceptional author. Steve Higgs is very prolific and has many cozies out, covers several genres, all of which are very good. I've ordered up several more of his bundled sets to read. Thanks so much Mr. Higgs!
A great read, mystery, funny and thoroughly enjoyable. Perfect reading to take my mind off Coronavirus crisis and lockdown. I've just brought the next series, happy reading everyone!
This series is laugh out loud/wet your pants funny. I love that the protagonist is a woman of above average years! I applaud the author Steve Higgs for the creative situations he gets Mrs. Fisher into. I am also happy that she has the wisdom to oust her cheating husband! Definitely worth the read!
I’m not big on mystery books, but this one seemed liked it would be okay. It wasn’t great, the humor was good, but it felt more like a fantasy island episode.
I love reading destination books. I started this series prior to going on a cruise and read it throughout the cruise as well. It's a fun romp with an intriguing cast of characters. Some are a bit over the top in a more comic book style, but fun, nonetheless. One of the characters in the book is named Barbie and her descriptions fit the characteristics of the doll, as you see on the covers. However, Patricia or Patty, the main character, for which the books are named, is in her mid-40s. Loved the chases with the bad guys where Patricia is shown huffing and puffing and have dressed in a haphazard style as if she was a normal person like the rest of us.
These characters are lovely and endearing. The mysteries are well thought out and solved by Mrs. Fisher and her shipmates friends. Very entertaining and pleasant read. Good clean fun. I do enjoy box sets because they allow the reader to go from one story to the next without delay. Perfect for this series, as you will not want to wait! So engaging and cleverly written.
