No one can be trusted in this unrelenting thriller-pure Ludlum, with friends no less dangerous than foes. Anderson Harp's William Parker series starts here! It is 2010 and North Korea is starving its people to pay for its newest high-tech weapons system. The rogue nation has invested all its resources into Peter Nampo, a talented scientist who is developing missile technology capable of eliminating its enemies' satellites in space and delivering a nuclear payload into the heart of the United States. Marine recon veteran and small-town prosecutor William Parker is recruited by a dark-ops taskforce run by the CIA and Pentagon. His mission? Infiltrate the Hermit Kingdom and find Nampo's top-secret location. As Parker trains for, then launches, his extraordinary operation, he knows his chances of survival are low. But he has no idea he's about to become part of a mission much more dangerous than the one he set out on.

About the author

Anderson Harp is the author of international thrillers that have been compared to “Tom Clancy at his finest!” (New York Times bestselling author James Rollins).

His military experience informs his fiction, earning him high praise (“authentic … exciting … timely … believable” (New York Times bestselling author David Morrell, creator of John Rambo).

Anderson’s “breakneck pacing” and suspense satisfy “even the most demanding reader” (New York Times bestselling author Douglas Preston).

His fans rave that his “keenly insightful military thriller compares to Robert Ludlum’s trilogy about CIA assassin Jason Bourne” (www.militarywriters.com).

Anderson has served the United States Marine Corps in many capacities, from artillery to teaching mountain warfare and arctic survival. Harp’s military work has taken him from the Arctic Circle and Fort Greely, Alaska, (where a typical day reaches 44 below zero), to the Persian Gulf, Central America, Europe, South Korea, and the Pentagon. As an office in the Marine Corps Reserve, he was mobilized for Operation Enduring Freedom and served with MarCent’s Crisis Action Team.

This book is in a strange place publishing history wise. It seems to be a part of the Will Parker series, in that it features Will Parker, the marathon running secret agent, but it isn't listed as part of the series, when it should be listed as number one.

Will Parker is called up for a mission into North Korea. One of their scientists is building an intercontinental missile capable of hitting Washington DC, and Parker just happened to be his roommate in college. He is to find, identify, and photograph the scientist.

Of course, things don't go as planned.

Pretty good. you can see why the property was made into a series.

How prescient was Harp to write this highly topical novel about North Korea? This is a reissue which somehow didn't lose a step since it was first published. Our hero Will Parker has what seems like an impossible task- to infiltrate North Korea and find and stop Peter Nampo, the evil genius behind the North Korean missile program. Parts of this might seem implausible (or are they?) but it's action oriented. It will definitely make you think about the advances North Korea has made for real in its weapons program in recent years. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. It's a page turner.

Amazing story

This was an intriguing , well written story that keeps your attention. His military experience is evident in the very detailed information given throughout. The training at Pickel Meadows Mountain Warfare Cold Weather Training Center was of special interest to me as I trained there in Dec. '54. Looking forward to reading more of Mr. Harp's works.

A surprisingly great read! This was one of those free / cheap ebooks, and I have to say that while I was not expecting much, the quality of the book was outstanding! The depth of the characters, the easy flow of the plot and the timeliness make it a book I heartily recommend.

North Korea has sought the respect of the world for decades. At the same time, it has lacked the resources to make that happen. Now all that is about to change with the recruitment of just one man: nanotechnology specialist Peter Nampo. He is the one man that can give North Korea the one thing
they want most of all: nuclear weapons capable of hitting the West. Former Marine-turned-lawyer William Parker, as one of the few that could identify Nampo, is tasked with finding Nampo and putting a stop to North Korea’s nuclear aspirations. The fate of the world could rest on the success or failure of his mission.

Northern Thunder by Anderson Harp is a riveting novel that draws on current events to pull the reader in and keep them interested. As with most authors of the genre, Harper has a military background that has taken him across the globe and thus provides him with plenty of material for his novels. The main character, Will Parker, has been well-crafted and is very believable. In addition, the North Korean characters line up well with what we know of their leadership. I plan to read Harper’s other Will Parker novels and give it 4/5 stars.

This book has been banned in China. The North Korea mission seems to be too real for the censors.
