Duke Investigations: Complete Series

Rate this book
Part 1When Emma was in college, her mother was killed during a home invasion, and the case was never solved. To this day, Emma carries around a lot of guilt for not having been home on that fateful night. When her own home is broken into, a world of old emotions erupts and Emma can’t rid herself of the anxiety that has surfaced—and so she hires Duke Investigations to finally figure out who killed her mother all those years ago.Private Investigator Sean Murphy is just about as hardened as they come. He drinks. He smokes. He curses. And he’s never let himself be distracted by a relationship—which isn’t to say he hasn’t seduced at least half of the female population in Waterville Valley. But when new client Emma Sorkin walks into his office, he soon discovers that she has a way of softening his heart.Part 2Kind and intelligent, Hayley Mills struggles to keep her bookstore afloat while managing her autistic brother’s highly regimented schedule. If anything is amiss with him, his emotions turn turbulent and he can easily spiral out of control. Even so, he is her best friend. But when Hayley’s neighbor is found dead, the residents quickly suspect her autistic brother, and the dark cloud that this casts over her family is enough to motivate Hayley to hire Duke Investigations.Part 3Athletic and daring, Megan Freeman works as a ski instructor at the nearby resort by day and spends time with her twin sister at night, who lives in the cabin neighboring her own. The two are identical except for one major Megan’s twin is blind—and not because of natural causes.Four years ago, when the twins were camping together over a long weekend and Megan’s twin left for the campsite restrooms, Megan was attacked by a predatory man. Her sister made it back just in time to fight the attacker off of Megan, but that wasn’t all. When the man ran off through the thick forest, Megan’s twin sprinted off after him. But instead of catching him, she was struck badly in the eyes by a spiky tree branch, which damaged her vision beyond repair. One day while giving a ski lesson, Megan can’t tell if her eyes are playing tricks on her. Is her attacker back in Waterville Valley? She doesn’t feel safe, and so she immediately hires Duke Investigations to look into the man who has the hairs on the back of her neck pricking up.Part 4Brilliant and highly introverted, Dawn Stevens has dedicated her life to working at the Wildlife Conservation Center as a biologist. Of course, the peace of spending her days outside with nature is nothing like the war unfolding at home. Months ago, out of the goodness of her heart, Dawn decided to take in her drug-addicted cousin, who at the time promised to get himself help. When her cousin is arrested for killing someone in a robbery gone wrong, he insists he didn’t do it. The man whom he and his addict friends robbed was alive when they left him. Is Dawn’s cousin lying to her or telling the truth? She’s at a complete loss for figuring it out, which is why she hires Duke Investigations.Part 5Bubbly and upbeat, Kendra Cavanaugh loves her managerial position—she started at the golf course as a high schooler and truly worked her way up—but life on the whole hasn’t been easy as of late. A murder investigation extremely close to Kendra’s heart just went from active to cold.It happened one year ago; Kendra’s lifelong friends, married couple Mindy and Carl, were killed, leaving their twelve-year-old daughter to Kendra since she is the girl’s godmother.

I added this to my "can't make myself read" shelf. I made it through the first book but can't and I mean CAN'T make myself finish the series. So why the 2 stars, the book was "ok". Book 1 had all the makings of an amazing story but there was zero delivery and book 2 started with the same drama but after the first couple of chapters I was done. As always with my "can't make myself read" shelf I can return to it another day but honestly I can't see myself picking this back up.

Nothing but tropes and stereotypes.

5 stories and none of them were well researched. The plots moved well enough but it felt like the author had never even spoken to anyone like her characters, let alone researched them or bothered to understand them. It was every bad cliche of disabilities, addiction, and alcoholism, as well as cliches about rape and sexual assault survivors one could think of. I have a hard rule that if I start reading something I have to finish it and this was such a bad read both due to failed character research and development and failures in grammar and usage that it almost broke me. I sincerely doubt if I will ever pick up another book by this author, and would honestly have given it zero stars if I could have.

A good complete series

A good series full of hot alpha males they are tough reliable incredibly sexy and don't give up until they have cracked their cases. All this group of life long friends are totally committed private investigators who are determined to uncover the mystery surrounding the death of their friend years before along the way each of the five takes on a case that leads them to the love of their lives. It's a good read that covers a lot of issues and with the story of the friend running in the background it makes each book an interesting read.

Great mystery series

Even though I figured out the mystery early on, in all but one of the stories, the details leading up to the reveal kept me intrigued. The interactions between characters and how each story was tied into the last was great. Well written.

Duke Investigation: Complete Series

I love all the characters in this series so much. My favorite ones were Sean, Kyle, Jay, Chad & Bryan. The only one you never really got to was Garrett til the end and then I learned he was full of secrets, and mystery. I
Love the fact that this group of friends have so much love for there friend they named the business after the one that was there long time friend and leader all those years ago. This series is full of drama, mystery and passion.
Duke Investigation series seemed like it ended way to soon. Love to read more about this group of friends now that they all found * that one * to spend the rest of their lives with.

Holding secrets

Recommendations to any one who has friends. This is one of the most truthful story I have read about friendships I've ever seen. Throught my life I have have friends that stab me in the back, blame me,, have more secrets than God. I've never had a friend that consoles me ,stand beside me, or listens to what I have to say. So today I still have no friend. But I read alot. Great story.

Each story has double plots

Each story stands on its own but at the same time has another plot that runs through all of them. In the first chapters the lead characters and primary plot are revealed consistently. You know where the main story is going. The second, underlying, plot is supple and kept more in the background with each story exploring possibilities but not resolved until the end of the last story. A good set of books

I like the story line among all the books. The mystery reveals a new clue in each story, and it was a little surprising to find out who really did it at the end. Meanwhile, the other on-going investigations and romances kept me occupied and engaged.

But this series had about 20 typos that I would love to point out to the author for future publishing updates.

I wish all books were this good! Killer story!!!

I love this book. It had action & suspense, love & lust, sex, a cute kid & even a murder mystery. The way the writer wove the overlying big mystery thru all 5 romance novels was masterful. Couldn't put it down and highly recommend! I need more of this!!!

Intriguing fascinating

This whole series is extremely intriguing, fascinating the plot throughout all these books keep shoe page turning after page turning hoping they find the killers and get the relief that they deserve to know who killed their friend, my only dislike is that a size 6 for women is not overweight neither is a size 10

Great

This was a great read. Each and everyone of the characters were great. The first and last stories were my favorite . But I enjoyed all,of them. The way each story had the underlying cold case the Duke Investors were trying to solve was very interesting, along with each of the other investigations. The only thing I found was each book was quick to solve and end.

Great read

Very well written. Very few grammatical or pronoun errors. The suspense continued throughout the book. It did focus on 2 characters as the main story killer. But, it kept you guessing until the end.

Good series

I enjoyed the series and the way the overarching murder investigation ran through the whole series. Individual books also had good murder investigations. Have to be read in order as a set.

Interesting.

The stories in this series were all similar in many ways. Very intense in places, predictable in others, quite different.
