The story continues from the previous volume (Yeah, not a fan of that.). Two more issues of the five here take place in the future and time-travel happens, which has become one of my least favorite tropes in the Marvel universe. The story gets really messy with LMD's everywhere and multiple Deadpools everywhere else. I'm not sure I could straight up tell you what happened at this point. Oh, and the story continues into the next volume as well, Ugh! The art is all over the place. There's like 5 different artists illustrating pieces of issues. It's wildly inconsistent and none of it is great.

In the far flung future, Clonepool stalks Old Men Parker and Wilson – but who the hell is he, and what does he have to do with the reason Peter’s still alive? And back in the present, the Chameleon’s LMD plot spins dangerously out of control as he discovers that his new toys are far more than they appear, and both Spider-Man and Deadpool are out to get him, and each other!

This series is on the upswing, that’s for sure. Robbie Thompson has a plan in mind, and he’s telling the story he wants to tell – and most of all, it’s fun. It’s not setting the world on fire with its ingenuity or anything like that, but I’ll admit to laughing out loud more than than once across these five issues. This is basically a continuation of the previous volume, and concludes in the next, but we get some definite plot progression in both the future and present storylines.

The future story shows up twice in five issues, sort of like the flashback/forward issues in the Duggan run on Deadpool; the difference here is that the events of this story play directly into the present one too, especially right near the end where they literally collide. The whole point of this book is the relationship between Spider-Man and Deadpool, and Thompson really understands that; sometimes it’s one-sided, and sometimes it’s antagonistic, but right at its core, these two characters really care about each other, even if they’re not going to admit it.

I can take or leave the LMD story, to be honest. I like how Thompson threads in some flashbacks that tie Spidey directly to it, but it’s outgrown the rest of the narrative now, to the point that the Chameleon, who was the big bad of last volume, is literally defeated off-panel by other characters. We do get some more Mockingbird, and Husk, and Thompson slyly slides Silk into the story (not that I’m complaining), and the future versions of the Fantastic Four are a clever interpretation of characters we already know.

The art is a little all over the place. Scott Hepburn, Elmo Bondoc, Flaviano, and Matt Horak are all involved across the five issues – for the most part they manage to get different storylines to pencil in a Valiant-esque approach, but they don’t really gel particularly well. Hepburn and Bondoc have a very jagged line, while Horak’s is very bland, almost Steve Dillon in nature, and Flaviano uses heavy shadows. None of them detract from the story, or are particularly bad, and I’m also glad that we’ve lost Chris Bachalo drawing like 3 pages every issue because he can’t manage to draw one whole issue without help, but I’d really like a regular artist on this book now please.

WLMD (which I assume is Weaponized Life Model Decoys? That’s never explained in-story) is a good continuation of a blossoming storyline; the writer knows what he’s doing, and he gets the characters where it counts. The surrounding material isn’t always as strong, but the name of the book is Spider-Man/Deadpool, and in that area, this one’s a success.

It was pretty good. Still a little disappointed in how the series turned with the change in authors. I like how the future connected with present time in this one. Still I am a bit sick of timeline stuff, though Marvel seems to love it.

I didn't like the aged characters or the cliff hanger but the book in general was hilarious and I loved it

Has it really been six volumes of this team-up already? I swear the last time I sat down to write a review for these guys they were on the chopping block. Apparently that didn’t happen! I still maintain that Spider-Man/Deadpool is one of my favorite team-ups, if for nothing else than the witty banter that’s guaranteed to be in the pages of every volume.

So, I saw this meme:

description

But after reading Arms Race, which I thought had its sweet moments and some decent jokes in between the nonsensical plot, I figured maybe people were being too hard on him (especially considering the earlier storylines in this series weren’t all that great either, let’s be real). But after reading something like 10 fourth wall-breaking/meta “jokes” in the span of 20 pages, I have to say the writing in this one was a little disappointing. Overuse of Deadpool trademarks gets old fast, and it’s simply lazy writing. Kinda reads like bad fanfiction.

I also just really hate the stupid sharks.

But the Old Men Spidey and DP moments were sweet and oddly moving, and it all made a little more sense when the parallel storylines merged, so there’s that. Creds to the artists for making their old faces so detailed and expressive.

I’ll give it a meager 2,5/5.

Let me say this first - if you like Deadpool, this one is for you cause there's a whole lot of Deadpool in this book.

The story continues from the previous volume, where Robbie Thompson introduces the idea of clone pool and amplifies it in this volume by several degrees. We have a whole army of Deadpools that are basically new types of LMD's. Plus we have other Marvel hero LMD's in the mix as well so that is fun. While Spider man and Deadpool have to deal with the present day shenanigans, the story flips back in forth between the present and future, where old men spidey and dp are also having an adventure of their own...

This isn't necessarily bad but it feels like an overload for most of the time. Even trying to remember it to write this review is overloading because there was a lot going on in general, plus Deadpool's constant jokes, PLUS Spider Man's jokes and life getting some spotlight too... I feel like Thompson bit a lot off and maybe it was too much for the reader to chew at times.

Overall, its an OK volume but it seems this particular story line is stretching into the next volume so I anticipate some burnout here pretty soon.

This comic had me laughing out loud several times, especially since there was a good deal of fourth-wall "demolishing." Sometimes Spider-Man and Deadpool together can come across as annoying, but in this particular case, an ideal balance is struck between the two characters and the crazy adventure they find themselves caught up in. It's interesting to see how "Old Man" Spidey and Deadpool fit into this larger narrative, and I have to admit that, even though the story is a ridiculous one, it has also managed to keep me guessing. I'm not going to say this is the finest example of comic-writing, but it's definitely a perfect example of "downright fun" within the genre. There's still enough story to center the craziness, but, at the end of the day, you feel safe knowing that this is a comic you don't have to worry about hitting you too hard in the feels. And, honestly, we need comics like that. Not everything has to be serious, and Deadpool and Spidey are the perfect duo to deliver just the sort of zaniness we crave.

This title keeps getting weirder...
Dealing heavily with the "Oldies" and Life Model Decoys, the story begins divided, with modern day covering Spidey and Deadpool (and friends! LOL) searching for Chameleon, who is in charge of the LMDs, and their old future selves fighting an army of Deadpool LMDs, while getting help from the Fantastic Four of the future! (The Thing (Reed Grimm), Ben's son, who is incredibly huge; Venom Vision, a hybrid that is exactly as you'd think he would be; The Last Devil, a combination of Daredevil and Iron Fist; and Valeria Richards, now an old woman and in Doom's Iron Man armor)
When future Spidey is killed, Old Man Deadpool travels back in time to prevent it. This brings about a new character, Master Matrix, who appears to be the original LMD, yet has sentience of sorts, and massive amounts of power. But Master Matrix was originally built by Peter's parents?
Getting more convoluted, and not as funny (despite the hilarious 4th wall breaks from Deadpool)... I hope this series can turn back around.
Still... recommend.

If you liked Spider-Man existing in that sweet spot between light and dark... and you like Deadpool light and wacky (and who doesn't) and if you enjoyed volumes 1-5 of this series... well, chances are you will enjoy volume 6 as well as the story started there continues.

While I like series where the trades connect to form a bigger story (IE: Starman, Sandman, etc.) I prefer each trade to sort of work on its own. But Spider-Man Deadpool makes it work with the Old Man Deadpool and Old Man Spidey team ups.

Anyway, this title continues to be just the right form of zany. I rather enjoyed it.

ok, i know technically this volume isn't out yet, BUT i've read all the individual issues that are featured here so i figure i might as well mark this as read now instead of waiting two months and forgetting to come back to add this to my "read" list. anyway. i love this! i love the illustration and the story is so fucking cool (bonus points for time travel, i'm a sucker). that cliffhanger at the end, too, so good. and pool referring to spidey as "my best friend"—WIG!

Time travel, robots, and team-ups, oh my! Between the life model decoys, the sharks, and the helpful heroes, this book has more character than plot, but that's all right. It's a superhero comic, and it does try. The cameo from Peter's parents is actually very interesting, and I look forward to seeing where that goes. Otherwise, this book is mostly one liners and big fights, which is as it should be.

Thompson's funny team-up book continues to roll on as Spidey and Deadpool are still dealing with Chameleon's super LMD's. The book is very entertaining and is layered with Wade's desire to be a good person in the present and future. There were some fun turns but I wish the story was wrapped up here. A handful of artists did a very good job especially on the old-timer versions. Overall, another fun read.

I've been super bored with this series since whatever trade was the dumb Itsy Bitsy arc (3rd trade?) and last trade I really really didn't like but I gave this one a shot anyways and LOVED IT and I don't really know why?? Loved seeing old man deadpool & old man webs. And I LOOOOOOOVED seeing Silk I love her so much 😭😭😭 good trade this has definitely renewed my interest in the series

Unlike previous writers on this series, Thompson is playing the long game with a story that involves time travel and life model decoys and villains pretending to be heroes, and it's...just not my thing.

I don't enjoy the humor on this particular run. What's the point of a Spider-Man/Deadpool team up if it isn't funny?

Eh. I like these characters and madcap adventure is entertaining. But this story (stories) is getting so convoluted that it's losing momentum. The art jumps around. Everything just feels kind of messy. Entertaining enough in concept, but this series isn't what it could be.

I thought it was good fun even if it also leaned into the mistaken (Parkers' parents are CIA agents) premise. Loses a star because it kind of seems like nothing happens or the book is short for some reason.
