Do you know someone who recently received news? As co-author, Beth Duewel mentions in Ch. 3, this might be news of a job change, a financial change, or a health change. Anything that feels like it’s “messin’ with my happy.”
If so, then FIX HER UPPER: Reclaim Your Happy Space, written by Duewel and Rhonda Rhea, offers encouragement as well as reminders of how to hang on to the joy.
Duewel and Rhea take turns sharing personal stories to help illustrate the scriptural truths about God’s gift of joy. Some are precious-sweet stories that made me smile, like Duewel’s story about her Dad with Alzheimer’s using his oxygen mask as a telephone. Other stories are downright hilarious, like Rhea’s rant about her dislike of cleaning, and how it ran in the family.
“. . . but I do remember having to say to a teen at least once, ‘Son. You have to clean your room. We’re out of spoons.’”
If the humor in Reclaim Your Happy Space doesn’t cheer you, the wisdom will.
“Using God’s joy as an instrument to live life is simpler than we think. We simply hand it back over. We trust God to do and fix and love like He says He will. Despite popular opinion, joy is not about us. Rejoicing happens outside of ourselves. For me, that’s really good news.” – Beth Duewel
It's good news for me as well. I joyfully recommend this book.
