First published in 1923, this book provides an intimate look at the life of the successful publisher, who was born in Portland, Maine, in 1850 to Cyrus Libby Curtis and Salome Ann Cummings. Curtis's many professional achievements included founding The Ladies' Home Journal and the purchases of The Saturday Evening Post, The Country Gentlemen, and The Public Ledger in Philadelphia.
Edward William Bok (born Eduard Willem Gerard Cesar Hidde Bok; 1863–1930) was a Dutch-born American editor and Pulitzer Prize-winning author. He was editor of the Ladies' Home Journal for 30 years (1889–1919). He also distributed popular home-building plans and created Bok Tower Gardens in central Florida.
